- Just replaced my D turbo for a C turbo. Was a lot of work but I love the results. This is my son and I on the test drive.
By far one of the greatest sounding vehicles ever made
True
I agree 👍
Yes its a melody for my ears
That throaty whistle brings back fond memories!
Trump Grass it most definitely is a family vehicle. You can fit the whole family in the bed
Trump Grass Ha! I hear ya on that one
My dad gets nostalgic just hearing this sound.
I was stationed at Ft. Lewis in the early 70s in an MP company right across the street from a Maintenance company motor pool. When that unit would do motor stables all the dueces with turbos would "sing" me awake after working Mid's. I can still hear them "singing" even to this day. This video was a great reminder of some great days as a young soldier living on post at Ft. Lewis.
I used to owned like that in Vietnam, this truck is very strong pulling logs and climbing the mountain, I missed it
'Merica
I hear the gears changing up and the revs rising each time , yet the grass keeps rolling past the window at the same speed !!!! Loadsa FUN 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Don't know anything about the different turbos, but that is the sound I remember from the mid 80s at Bragg. I was an MP but was one of a few licensed to drive it and it was a blast! Saw a lot of videos but this one had the sound! It was OBNOXIOUS! I loved it!!
I was next door at Pope AFB, we transported the 82nd daily, I miss those guys.
One day...one day.
Dam I love that sound
Who needs a radio when you can listen to that 3LJ319 sing?
Brings back memories!
Takes me back to 1985 ,riding in the back of these to the ranges in basic training at Fort Leonard wood.
Miss that noise!
Yes. Came here just to hear it again. My favorite vehicle . Was mechanic in the army. My baby.
this is true. during war, they used turbos originally to make the exhaust cleaner, because prior to turbos, the engines exaust was black and could easily be seen by enemies such as in veitnam. they later replaced them with d turbos to make less noise than the c turbos' whistle, which was easily heard by enemies...
learned this from; sciencescifigaming
they are mainly put on a diesel to increase the cold air going into the engine making the diesel fuel burn better hints the reduction in black smoke
Reo m35 and Volvo F12 best sounds ever...
I can listen to this all day! Great vid! =)
Me too man!
This is a good friend of mine!! Let me tell you, it was not easy to change out, The D turbo bolts had been on so long we broke them trying to get it changed.. We broke 2 bolts when we changed the turbo.. But this deuce has been sold!
Don't need hearing protection, but recommended for longevity of your ears.
Love that sound! Put many a mile on some.
Music to my ears!
That’s got a nice growl
After a few hours in convoy this sound would put you to sleep
the sound!!
BEST....SOUND...EVER !!!
Damn I’m buying one

I have always loved that sound on those trucks.I drove an M-54A2 5 ton with the same type of turbo

just did the same thing to mine i actually seem to pull some hills better than before unless im stupified by the whistle haha.
I want one
i own on and i can't drive it because im not old enough to have a licence i have a permit and every one hates being the passenger so i can't take it on on the road so it just sits in the drive way and long story short i watch these videos of people driving so i can hear that sweet whistling turbo
Nice im not old enough either and im in ca so no chance
Thri11Gamer115 poor guy you ever get to drive your damn truck or what?
where do you get a c turbo from and how much are they??
I’m in the works on getting one of these 1971 multi fuel engine I have know idea what I’m getting into but I’m trading a 2005 gto for it
love that sound!
1996 turkiye askerde 15 ay kullandim
very easy on these took me 45min to do but actually snapped the 2 rear studs and had to torch out so was hr and a half.
Sounds like Mack F700
The sound reminds me of my childhood, when the US armed forces, stationed in my hometown in bavaria used it for all kind of purpose. I love that very special whistling sound. Is it a huge turbo-charger or a roots blower? ( I'm not firm in your expressions of C or D type) Thanks a lot!
It's a turbo
I’d love to be able to find a C turbo for my ‘68, but they want a damn fortune for it. I’d be willing to trade the turbo that’s on mine for a whistler. Just come an get it, and put the C turbo on, an you’ve got a deal
@Slapshot2516 cheaper just to pick them up at a surplus auction, 3,000 for a nice one. you can get them as cheap as 1500ish but it will need some work, good thing about these is they are cheap to work on too. I can get a motor for a couple hundred...
I want one so bad but probably to late cause of what our government wants I know probably can’t have one in California
Mainly, they're very expensive, and cause power lag if they are too big for the engine.
May I take a litlle bit of sound please?
Nice deuce! How hard is it to swap the turbo?
How much psi do these turbo's boost to? Would be interesting to see if you can crank it up or add an intercooler to make more power and to increase efficiency.
15 psi maybe... 20, you don't want to hot rod these engines they are not built like a Cummins, treat it like one and you will blow it up.
You sure that has a turbo on it ? I can't be so sure😂
hmmmm....... add straight pipe to that thing! #bestideaever
Trust me loud enough
They don't have a muffler, they are all straight piped.
@@johnharrington4757 Yep
James. You will know the truck is turboed by the sound. This has a C turbo or better known as the whistler. The D turbo is much quieter. Only can hear the spooling when shifting. Also, look at the trucks exhaust. The turboed models will have the standard 4 inch exhaust pipe. The NAs will be much smaller. Just do some research and you shouldn't have a problem.
It's the perfect vehicle to pick up the mother in law or annoying girlfriend with
what's the benefit of the swap then? nice truck.
Why do you keep "coasting" to the stop sign???
My deuce doesn’t whistle .Can I change the turbo to a C and it will sound like that?
@scfd524 I saw a 1970 deuce on st louis' craigslist for $5000... Its alot of money for a "toy" but the man in me wants it soooo bad!
make some videos of the rig but longer trips
👍👍💪🏼... Can you explain how to make this sound system...
Anybody have this technical knowledge or plane...please...
" Stop " alto
how does it steer I drove one yesterday with out power steering i did not like it does yours have power steering
Why are turbochargers put on engines? If they increase power and economy, why are they not put on all motorvehicles?
Bwaaap Bwaaap Bwaaap!
Do you need hearing protection when you drive the A2 ? I'm considering getting a bobbed A3 or maybe the M109A4.
Hank Slaght yes
You don't need it but its insanely loud
I would love to have the money for one of these. What did you pay for this one?
unnite state army symbol kit
im looking at some deuces how do i know if its N/A or turbo?
Turbos on a ‘68 are square looking, you’ll know if it’s there or not. Mines got a turbo, but it doesn’t whistle. Previous owner took it off because he felt it was too loud. 🙄
No really these turbos where put on for epa regulations they only in actuality give you an extra 5 h.p. vs. non-turbo
mufle
Do you still have the D turbo?
Because he doesn't know how to downshift.
Turbo tf08 ?
