I have 814 hours in Elden Ring and I still can't Dodge Malenia's Waterfowl Dance. Whenever I fight her I just take a 100% Physical Negation Shield with me and just Block Through Waterfowl. Now I'll try Freezing Pots for a Change👍
You can dodge her 'easily' without the circling running thing (like most ppl with joysticks do). It works the same as parry (only the roll button), but you must press your roll button in the last milisecond when her first fowl about to hit you. The trickiest is only the first, the second and the third is much slower and predictable.
@@Stef861 I made a tutorial and gameplay video of it. If you still get a little clip, it means we missed a tenth of second too soon in rolling. If perfect, no clip at all.
You can try Vow of the Indomitable. With decent timing it will negate the first flurry entirely or almost entirely, same can be done with the second flurry and then you should dodge the third flurry how you normally would.

Cause I feel like some of the main issues with this attack is there are no real proper dodge options for medium equipment loads outside of running away or using bloodhound step. I’d imagine medium equip load includes most peoples builds in this game which is why it’s kind of a problem.
My #1 build for her is an offhand staff of loss paired with Lusat's staff and night sorceries (2 staffs of loss are better if in NG+/other means). Paired with all typical buffs and talismans (golden vow, howl of shabriri, magic scorpion charm, terra magica, godfrey icon), I do like 15% of her HP per charged night comet, and due to it being a night sorcery she doesn't try to dodge it. Use that at first, then night shard between dodges. Night shard is also its own beast. It does much less damage, but also casts much faster, and similarly can't trigger her dodges. But not just that, but it doesn't flinch her either- Which might seem bad at first, but hear me out. If Malenia is currently being passive, doesn't dodge a projectile and also isn't flinched, her AI can just keep her in that state indefinitely. That's right, you can straight up kill phase 1 without her even attempting a single attack if you get lucky and trick her AI like that. It's crazy.
Hear me out. Moghwyn's long and hard spear being the strongest pest control for Malenia is the best piece of lore Michaelzaki has ever envisioned. Truly a masterpiece of a game.
They will 100% make better bosses in DLC but no way any of them will be harder than Malenia. Edit: I see many people saying Malenia was outdone difficulty wise. After playing the DLC, she is second hardest and they made even more BS boss than her lol, Radhan goes crazy. But bosses are better and movesets are better in every way. CUUUURSE YOU BAYLEEE !!!
Deaths poker flame spam is the only reason I could beat her rl1. Im so bad I dont even know how to dodge waterfowl. In phase 2 you dodge the first attack and hit her with 2-3 flame attacks and half her health is gone.
I’ve been wanting to say this for a while and have put it off but you use “of which” incorrectly almost every single time you say it. In almost every case of you using “of which” it would be grammatically correct to just say “which” or even “that”
Great video! An alternative suggestion, and the one I (finally) beat her quite easily with: - Arcane/strength build - Marais Executioner’s Sword - Talismans to boost skill and successive attacks, since the weapon art gives multiple consecutive hits: Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Shard of Alexander etc. - Thorny Cracked Tear in your physicks flask. Given the range of the skill and consecutive hits, you’re pretty much able to stunlock her and put her on her ass again and again.

My favourite malenia build is the Bloody Helice. A 1 second long dodge (which is very long for a dodge in this game) into an impaling thrust with a 2 hit follow up attack dealing lots of bleed and stance damage makes the fight so easy. Pair with the lord of blood's exultation and spear talisman for ridiculuos damage. It may not be as easy to use as the mohg spear but it more than makes up for it with how fun and rewarding it is to use
i tried to use darkmoon GS but of course with that i cant cancel out her waterfowl with freezing pots. i just really hate that move dude. i still cant dodge it correctly.
Magma blades against her are easy mode, I cheesed all of her phase in only 1:33 with it. The only problem is that you need to know how to dodge her waterfowl and her moveset because the reach of magma blades are quite short, almost like using daggers. You need some time to learn how to properly wield it (without instant dying). But it's def much more satisfying fighting Malenia in such close combat scenario. A total bad-ass.
Finding a bosses weaknesses and timing powerful abilities to exploit them is not cheesing, it is just playing Elden Ring. This kind of RPG style of approach to boss encounters is what makes this game so special, especially when compared to DS3, where a straight or curved sword is both the most viable and most enjoyable play style in most big fights - most enjoyable because it gives you better dodge and attack windows. If making powerful builds in Elden Ring is cheesing then cheesing is what makes this game so damn fun.

I was struggling bad trying all weapons and ashes until I tried morgott cursed sword... Dude that thing can melt her especially if you go in super aggressive! upside of the whole thing is I upgraded a ton of weapons to +9/24 😂 I have lots of options to switch to quickly now.
My last kill on her was basically due to luck, it was a SoNaF hybrid caster built (both Sorceries and Incantations), however the game pretty much let me win as she only went for Waterfoul ONCE THE ENTIRE FIGHT, iirc she didn't use the clone attack, and just spammed the Scarlet Aeonia attack at the end, Tiche died (one of the only bosses in the game that I consistently use Spirit Summons on, the other being Godskin Duo), but she put in work. So my advice is to just get lucky and let RNG pity you enough that the game pretty much lets you win. Good to know that my Faith and Dex/Arc builds should be able to deal with her cheap bullshit the easiest. For Spirit Summons if you want to use them: 1. Mimic Tear and other NPC summons aren't good options as they can get hit by the grab and heal her quite a lot 2. Black Knife Tiche is arguably the best summon for the fight, she's agile and has a projectile attack that deals a DoT effect that's potent 3. Omenkiller Rolo is another good one, he has Bleed, staggers her quite easily and also has a fire attack. However he's liable to basically commit suicide by running into the clone attack into the damaging effect below her that melts him in phase 2.
It does have a bit of RNG, but Burn O Flame! will work even if you don't know her move-set. Casting the spell has a crouch animation, causing a lot of her attacks to miss completely. Throw the Giant's seal in there for a damage boost, and go nuts. It's very cheesy, so it fits right in with this video. It only took me 3 tries for a no summon, no co-op victory.
There are so many ways to make melee weapons stupidly powerful, it makes me sad as an almost pure magic build. I stick to a theme, a "savage shaman" that uses the Bestial, Crucible, and Dragon incantations and stuff like Beast Roar on the Highland Axe. I can get good enough damage out of it, but the spells are so much harder to use than melee weapons. Took me a week of attempts BOTH times I fought Malenia.
I remember Nameless king being the basis of most Elden Ring's scary bosses And yet all the game changing bosses in fromsoft were from DLCs I look forward to NONE of the dlc bosses having NONE of Malenia's attack prowess
Mogwyn's is definitely n.1 for NG. At something like NG+7, where she has like 4 times the HP, and she does basically almost double damage, and you cannot one shot her, it is very possible to get one shotted while being locked in that long animation. In my experience the best weapon against her though out all the NG cycles, if you aim and time it well, is Eleonora's. She gets infinitely stun locked, and the DPS is insane (not as high as Mogwyn's, but WAY higher than Rivers of blood, and even dual curved swords, because of the perma stun lock).
Hot take, with a standard not too overpowered build, I could see Malenia being the hardest boss the games have seen so far. However since like half of the builds in this game cheeses everything, I can’t see her being the hardest boss in the series, I give that to the Orphan of Kos. Sure there are quite a few cheese strata for him but I feel like it is still more difficult than her and much more balanced funnily enough.
The easiest fight I ever had with her was spamming Burn O Flame. I always hit her. She always fell to the ground. In both phases she did nothing but fall down and stand up. I've also seen builds around Ghiza' Wheel that absolutely bullied Melenia. Bolt of Gransax also works but I found the damage a bit lacking. As soon as you have her at a wall she doesn't go anywhere anymore.
My favorite build for her is flame of the fell god + marai Executioner. You use flame of the fell god first, then you hit Malenia with the weapon art to build up multi hit buffs. Then the flame of the fell god one-shots her. It is awesome. Watch grandpa one shot bosses with this.
I’m surprised you didn’t include faith build with frenzy incantations. It deals fire damage, you can snipe her in first phase with frenzied burst, or just use unendurable frenzy in both with infinite stunlock and massive damage. Actually you can kill her with one long cast per phase with it
haven't watched the video yet, but i beat her yesterday with a goku build (fists, come azur and the 2 moon spells) and it was absolutely demented. with sorceries (ranni's moon in my case) you can just run away in phase 1 and she won't ever catch up with you, since she is forced to walk the entire time. in phase 2 you can just run away until she does the scarlet aeonia thing and then proceed to kamehameha (or whatever you prefer). it was really that easy, you can probably beat her without even having to roll in a few tries if you know her moves. must have taken me like 3-4 tries just because i didn't remember her second phase well
Burn o flame and unendurable frenzy absolutely destroyed her burn o flame knocks her up into the air over and over again and unendurable frenzy keeps her stunlocked for its entire duration and both do fire damage so both absolutely shred her
Flame of the Fell God works well to stunlock her during Scarlet Aeonia. On my faith build I used Burn O Flame to kill her, but during SA I used FOTFG to knock her down while I approach her and charge BOF.
Spinning Slash on bleed builds is really good on her, basically the same as Magma Blade for this case. On lvl1 I used the Death's Poker, it was really fun, she will dodge the L2-R1 but you can still bait her into the flames afterwards and if you delete half of her hp at the beginning of phase 1 when she is in the flower she is almost garanteed to do the flower again and lose the other half of her hp bar. One setup that's not broken, just simply really good against her is paired straight swords, it's probably the only PvE instance where I'd use straight swords over curved swords due to their faster neutral L1 attack speed.
i gotta hand it to you, that mohgwyn spear build is eviscerating more bosses than just malenia. ive been ripping all main game bosses a new one with the build and will be trying it out in DLC soon
1:02 actually, you don’t have to farm freezing pots for waterfowl, you should use vow of the indomitable. Just use it on the first flurry and dodge the other two. It’s way more efficient as you don’t need to farm aows. I always use that against her.
Hi, can you make a guide teaching how to dodge waterfowl and the clones attack? Not using throwables, just dodging i see you doing it a lot but i couldnt get the theory behind each move
You can also block a lot of waterfowl if you have a shield with 100% damage negation. Just make sure you’re out of range for the 1st or 2nd hit and block the rest.
I find that Bolt of Gransax is also pretty good against Malenia. It's not exactly a cheese, but the projectile is so fast that she can't dodge it even with input reading, and if you land the projectile during an animation where she can be staggered, then it knocks her to the ground and you can chain the attacks
I'm a huge fan of using the dragon king cragblade against her. the charged WA has insane range and knocks her down, which leads into a fully charged R2. not sure about the exact stance damage, but it seems to crack her open for a riposte nearly every time. her standing up animation afterwards has enough time to charge up the WA again and keep looping, it's great.
Iirc WA deals 69 poise damage and HTS charged R2 deals 33 69+33=102, Malenia has 80 poise, so L2 into charged R2 should ideally be a guaranteed stance break
Ah, so I did a bit of fact checking, and I was technically right about poise damage, but missed out on some specifics. Thundercloud Form deals 69 poise damage only if the entire charged WA connects, i.e. if you hit all ticks of the thundercloud part plus the final hit. If only the final hit connects, it deals either 11 if uncharged or 33 if charged.

Carian piercer works lioe giant hunt but it sends her to the ground and has high range, long reach and easy to buff (godfrey icon, magic buffs)

Heavy running attack while two handing a frostbite godskin peeler made her a cakewalk for me.
Maliketh's Black Blade makes this fight a joke too. Perma-stagger her with L2s and charged R2s and it's GG.

Burn o flame and unendurable frenzy absolutely destroyed her burn o flame knocks her up into the air over and over again and unendurable frenzy keeps her stunlocked for its entire duration and both do fire damage so both absolutely shred her
Flame of the Fell God works well to stunlock her during Scarlet Aeonia. On my faith build I used Burn O Flame to kill her, but during SA I used FOTFG to knock her down while I approach her and charge BOF.
My second playthrough involved the blasphemous blade. Of all my times beating her, that was the easiest.
Spinning Slash on bleed builds is really good on her, basically the same as Magma Blade for this case.
On lvl1 I used the Death's Poker, it was really fun, she will dodge the L2-R1 but you can still bait her into the flames afterwards and if you delete half of her hp at the beginning of phase 1 when she is in the flower she is almost garanteed to do the flower again and lose the other half of her hp bar.
One setup that's not broken, just simply really good against her is paired straight swords, it's probably the only PvE instance where I'd use straight swords over curved swords due to their faster neutral L1 attack speed.
i gotta hand it to you, that mohgwyn spear build is eviscerating more bosses than just malenia. ive been ripping all main game bosses a new one with the build and will be trying it out in DLC soon
1:02 actually, you don’t have to farm freezing pots for waterfowl, you should use vow of the indomitable. Just use it on the first flurry and dodge the other two. It’s way more efficient as you don’t need to farm aows. I always use that against her.
13:10 and then you just roll countless tries until she uses this specific attack after you go all in with blood rain

It was the mohgwyn's spear with 99 arcane that got me my first Malenia kill. I'll never forget how wonderfully she melted
You can also block a lot of waterfowl if you have a shield with 100% damage negation. Just make sure you’re out of range for the 1st or 2nd hit and block the rest.
Siluria Tree is a very good choice. It has high damage and has a long range, which allows you to attack Malenia without touching you.

I find that Bolt of Gransax is also pretty good against Malenia. It's not exactly a cheese, but the projectile is so fast that she can't dodge it even with input reading, and if you land the projectile during an animation where she can be staggered, then it knocks her to the ground and you can chain the attacks
I should specify that the fully charged projectile is what knocks her to the ground
I'm a huge fan of using the dragon king cragblade against her. the charged WA has insane range and knocks her down, which leads into a fully charged R2. not sure about the exact stance damage, but it seems to crack her open for a riposte nearly every time. her standing up animation afterwards has enough time to charge up the WA again and keep looping, it's great.
Iirc WA deals 69 poise damage and HTS charged R2 deals 33
69+33=102, Malenia has 80 poise, so L2 into charged R2 should ideally be a guaranteed stance break
Ah, so I did a bit of fact checking, and I was technically right about poise damage, but missed out on some specifics.
Thundercloud Form deals 69 poise damage only if the entire charged WA connects, i.e. if you hit all ticks of the thundercloud part plus the final hit. If only the final hit connects, it deals either 11 if uncharged or 33 if charged.

- 42 Faith, High Vigor
- Most poise armor you have without being overloaded
- Shabiri's woe
- powerstance sacred seals (Ideally Godslayer seal)
- Raw meat dumpling equipped
- Black Flame Ritual + Erdtree heal
Walks into the arena, summon mimic tear, unequip Shabiri's Woe then go chill somewhere in the corner
Every build is broken for Malenia if you know how to play dodge roll simulator. 😂
