@marco antonio Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands, but I do have songs I favor most. I buy two copies of every CD of their music. I still purchase disc. They are one of five bands I buy doubles. I love Def Leppard. Fan for life. Rock on. 🎸
Steve was more than a strict guitarist - he 'was' the musical/lyrical genius of this band, Elliot the 'leader'. Tracii Guns is not underrated? The 'Guns' in GnR stands for Tracii. Different player to Viv, but Tracii has some of the fastest fingers, speaking of 'fingers' what about Steve Stevens? His nickname is "fingers" for a reason. Slash to me is THE most brilliantly marketed global corporate guitarist ever - a one dimensional player. A single record of note. All previous guitarists you/I noted blow Saul Hudson away. Slash don't come close to Viv. Yet Slash has "fuck you" money - not that Viv's not got at least $30m, the ONLY reason he went back to GnR was his divorce in California saw him lose 50% of his wealth. Under CA State law it's 50/50 even if you have a pre-nup. His fake smoke and top hat are comical yet 'they sell'. Not many in the industry that rate him, well would go on record. Sadly for Viv the DIO mess has been hung round his neck for decades - and it is NOT fair, but that's life. A real shame - but I do think, knowing all I do about Steve, Steve would have approved of Vivian, he hated American LA shredders for one, and Viv is from that side of the pond being Irish. And both Steve and Viv share a commonality, they both were/are inherently decent men who are humble, quiet, and grounded. Tragically for Steve all he really had was the bottle when he actually had a loving family, band mates, Lorelei. But when Phil stopped drinking Steve was left alone. Some of the stories are horrifying, of Steve screaming in the middle of the night in his hotel room, back then there was no real medical/therapeutic help for those with bi polar [not saying Steve had that, I don't know am not a Dr], but the medications today were not there for Steve back then. It was 'hey let's put him into rehab'. Same with the greatest frontman in history Freddie Mercury, HIV/AIDs medications had not yet progressed to what they ended up becoming. But we 'do' have those precious memories.
@@B.T.R.-sj4if very well thought out post!! Funny, I never really appreciated Guns and Roses. However, I have started really liking some of their stuff all these years later. I will always believe that Pyromania is arguably the best rock album ever. Comin Under Fire & Billy’s Got a Gun were the lesser known tracks from that record! But some of the best. Hysteria was decent. Beyond that and of course Bringing on the Heart Break, is the extent I will go with Def Leppard. I did catch the Hysteria tour. Again great reply!

At Joe Elliots age, it’s hard to hit those high notes to whoever said that about a voice coach. You try singing those songs for over 2 hours every night!!!
I am really surprised no one was screaming or cheering in this video as soon as they heard Phil playing the opening licks of Paper Sun! I thought that was a favorite among the fanbase which they rarely get to hear live. I guess the real fanbase didn't show up, just a bunch of casual concert-goers.
I'm a real fan and usually just appreciate the music as it comes. Always cheer at the end of the song but maybe since I'm as old as these guys cheering at the beginning doesn't always happen. Maybe this recording didn't pick it up. Regardless, they sounded very good here.
Forget the Steve Clark solo, just go off like Viv Campbell. Pretty good live harmonies. How nice to hear people actually do that on their own instead of out of a laptop. But watching Phil try to pick fast is painful--leave that stuff to Viv who can actually do it.
I really hope they find room to keep Promises in the show when they go back to playing shorter sets again this year (2022). It was the last legit Def Leppard hit! What I really wish is that all the sets could be as long as these were in Vegas 2019. But I guess that doesn't work if they want to have an opening act, and they won't sell enough tickets without an opening act?
@@toddrinehart7075 Yes they do. If no one went for he opening act, then Joan Jett and Poison wouldn't be on this Stadium Tour, and getting paid tons of money to be there.
@@TonyM132 I've been to maybe 70 shows and the parking lot is always full while the opening acts are playing. Kiss opened close to 200 shows with a painter! Some people might care but I'm my experience not many.
@@toddrinehart7075 Well I suppose it comes down to the question: Why are there usually opening acts, why not just one act for the whole show more often? In the old days I think getting exposure for younger bands was a significant part of the reasons, but not much anymore. I think now it has to be to sell more tickets, and to sell tickets for higher prices. If those reasons are correct, then people must care if more are willing to buy tickets and/or pay more for those tickets when there are opening acts. Both are applicable to the current Stadium Tour: The crowds are larger than any of the acts performing have seen in many years, and the tickets have been ridiculously expensive in my opinion. I agree of course that there is more interest in the headliner(s) than in earlier performers, that's why those acts are the headliners. What reasons do you see for the existence of opening acts?
THE definitive Leppard concert where this song is just shivers up your spine stuff was in Denver Colorado on the 'In The Round In Your Face 1988/89 Tour'. Steve was his typical self and I implore all to look and watch this gig. I appreciate many will shred me for bringing the real genius of this band up however it is impossible for me personally to watch this iconic, no backing vocals at all pure hard rock legendary band live without Steve 30 years after he passed. Viv's tremolo less LP cannot come close to Steve's Thunderbird/Kahler. These songs are so precious. Viv imo plays Phil under the table, his under used brilliance sad to watch at times as Collen has taken over key parts of songs in the set list. Viv, as great as he is cannot reach the levels "The Riffmaster" did, and again I am NOT bashing Vivian, he is a legend. All I am saying is the Leppard between 1978-1991 was so special. 'Promises/Paper Sun' are imo 2 of the only good songs this band has released since their primary song writing, melody, harmony genius passed. Viv puts this into perspective verbatim "90% of what we play Steve left us". And "I still cannot play GoW". That's factual context. "The Thunder Gods" drumming here sounds awful. Not Rick's fault at all, the techies did aGod awful job.
Viv makes playing Too Late look easy!!! He has always been under rated! If truth be told, probably far superior to any guitarist that Def Leppard had. I will say Pyromania is arguably the best rock album ever!!
"no backing vocals". Are you mad? Def Leppard are one of the best bands with regards for backing vocals! To quote Viv himself "Def Leppard is a rock band who can sing". The drums sound fine. I think you are mistaking the fan's phone's sound quality recording for real soundboard quality! Yes, it is good, but it is not soundboard, so it is lacking. And yes, things did change when Steve died, of course they would, but what should they have done? Stopped? Disbanded? I personally believe they would've dishonoured Steve's memory had they given up and called it a day. Viv has filled his shoes amazingly. No he is not Steve, and has never claimed to be, he is who he is and has brought a different style with him, but as many others have commented, he is an awesome guitarist and is perhaps a little underused at times, but you seriously need to listen to the likes of "Wings Of An Angel" and "Dangerous", "Cruise Control" and those tracks which he solo duels off Phil. And the stuff they have released since is great. There are always going to be songs you don't like, or whatever, but it isn't Viv's fault they are not a diamond award selling band these days. The musical climate has changed more than the weather nd much of what we have today isn't a patch on what these guys have released during their career. And as for ITR-IYF, yes it is awesome, and I've been watching that since the late 80s, but you don't compare that to this. You are doing them a disservice by doing so. Even the Don Valley show, as special and such as it was, it doesn't compare. BUT, it is still them at their best at that time. Anyway, if you find it personally impossible to watch this, then don't!
