The design is beautiful and the person used mostly proper tools and techniques. Never use solder on an electrical connection. This is even more true when the connection is under stress - such as this project. Never use a screw or any other thread as an attachment point to fasten a wire in place. The fuse should probably be on the power input of the power supply - although one on the load side as well is nice. It looks like the homemade power supply had only a two wire input. With a metal case, it needs to be 3 wire - to accommodate an equipment ground. The only shortcoming mechanically I saw was that it will accommodate only one diameter of bottle.
haha, so uh, it might not have anything to do with the fact that it's a studio producing videos? If it was a workshop not producing videos it obviously would not look as nice...
I saw a similar but much simpler approach in the 1950s in Popular Mechanics and I tried it and it works just as well as the one here. The idea is the same. Score the bottle with a glass cutter or carbide knife as done here. But, rather than build the contraption shown, simply wrap a strand of straight nichrome wire around the bottle on the score line, apply tension (a weight, spring, etc.), and apply electricity - no bottle spinning necessary - and the bottle breaks at the score line. As a note, if you are going to cut a bottle, it is a good idea to have some abrasive handy (carborundum is really good) in order to smooth the edges of the bottle - they are sharp and will cut you.

That is a terrific concept (and execution). I only wish it would work on bottles that are not cylinders. Getting an oval or square or irregularly shapped bottle to lay flat like that doesn't work very well. I'll have to make one that works in an upright fashion so that the bottle can remain flat while it is being turned. 👍
For irregular shapes you can use this old trick: Put a line of yarn on the intended cut line, soak with some lighter fuel and set it on fire, wait a moment and then submerge the bottle into a bucket with water, to introduce the needed thermal stress that then fractures the bottle along the hot line created by the burning yarn.
Wonderful innovation. Love all your equipment (wish I had them). Now we've learned to make plenty of beautiful vases , pen holders etc for the family. Good work.
Amazing tool, as always. May I ask you if it is needed to use a glass cutter before to mark the cutting line or I can put the bottle direct onto this tool.
Fill bottle with engine oil to the level you want to cut it at. Heat a poker up white hot and put it in the bottle. Heat spreads across the surface of the oil. Now wrap a cold wet cloth around the bottle at the oil level and it will crack. You might need to give it a gentle tap with a spanner or screwdriver 🪛
Don’t only look at that one bottle…look all the cut after…I’m skeptical at first but after watching carefully the rest…that come from the wire..maybe he test it first before make sure it’ll work
I hope the video is meaningful to you.
If you like the video, please introduce it to your friends and social media !
is there part two? because using heat by itself will not cut the glass as you showed, I am sure you used diamond blade or something similar first.
