    Nice job on this video! I just published a video about C5 Front air dam scraping and put a link to this video - in case one of my viewers wants to alter their front or rear end height.

    Rule of thumb when attempting to break the front lowering bolts is to squirt some WD-40 into leaf spring threads to help loosen things up. Ultimately they can be removed and you could have the bushings cut for an added gain in lowering if desired.

      427totheMaxx this is great advice. Thank you.

    Next time get a wire saw and you can remove half of the stock front plastic bushing by sawing it out easily. This will get you another half inch or more up front 👍

      That’s great to know. Thank you.

    Interesting tidbit that this is attached to the LEAF SPRINGS. (primitive but somehow Chevy made them work very, very well)

      MrParadigm1981 it’s crazy that they still used them. I’m looking forward to seeing the C8.

    I was wondering how to do this, my front left wheel has a 2 finger gap while my right front wheel has a 3 finger gap.
    Gonna make them both 2fg

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +2

      lsedanolg much easier than I expected. It’s a nice feature of these cars. Good luck. :)

    Great video, John! Do you think this could still be done successfully with only jacking up one side at a time? (I've only got one jack)

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +2

      Edmund Iverson thank you so much. Yes you can do it one corner at a time. It’s just as easy that way.

      @@JohnEngel thank you, sir! One more question, if you don't mind, will you be doing an alignment, and if so, how long after you lowered it?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +2

      Edmund Iverson it does require an alinement after doing this. You should get it done right away.

    How does it ride? Have you thought about using lowering bolts all the way around?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      Steve's N Vegas so far the ride is the same. Feels like stick just a little lower. To replace the bolts is more work than I am looking to do as I don’t really want it much lower. :) thanks for the comment.

      Wire saw and ten mins and your front will be as low as the back

  • @LowBoostFilms

    What size wheels and tires did you put on? Did you go shorter side wall and that is why you have the wheel gap?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      Low Boost Films I did go with aftermarket sizes but they come with a large amount of wheel gap from the factory. I went with 275/35/18 in front and 335/30/19 in the rear.

    • @LowBoostFilms
      @LowBoostFilms 4 года назад +2

      John Engel nice, I’m looking to get a square 18 setup for the track, but the tires I want come in a smaller sidewall and I’m worried it’ll look awful haha

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      Low Boost Films I understand completely. However if they are just for the track then you could always switch them back after track use?

    • @LowBoostFilms
      @LowBoostFilms 4 года назад +1

      John Engel Absolutely, but I’m not sure how the car will behave or handle differently either with the smaller side wall. Like a 275/35/18 instead of a 275/40/18

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      Low Boost Films it should handle better. The lower sidewalk will make it stiffer and not roll as much. Also that number is a ration so it’s not going to be that much of a difference.

    Does the car have to be raised so the weight is off of the wheels? Or can I just drive it onto some ramps and get under the car for the rear bolts?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Год назад +1

      Great question. Technically, you could do it on the ground but lifting it takes off all of the weight and pressure.

    What quick jack do you have that won't fit??? My Porsche is slammed and it fits fine.

      MrParadigm1981 it would have fit for sure. I just didn’t know.

    Did you have to get an alignment after?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Год назад +2

      I did. Anytime you make these adjustments an alignment should be done.

    Do you have to reinforce anything in the bottom for risk of scraping something? My bmw didnt have a problem and i didnt give a fuck scraping but i just bought a c5 z06 and i dont wanna scrape anything without reinforcing or taking extra precautions

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Год назад

      There is the plastic air scoop on the bottom but this scraps on everything. There is nothing needed to be reinforced.

  • @yungtooli

    how did you break the bushing at the bottom of the front bolt loose? im trying this and can’t get the front bolts to break loose at all

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      yung tooli you have to give it a little force. I thought I broke the bolt when I did it but it just needed some heavy force.

    • @yungtooli
      @yungtooli 4 года назад +2

      John Engel what tool did you use on the bushing

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +1

      yung tooli nothing on the bushing itself. I used two wrenches. One on the top and one on the bottom.

    • @yungtooli

      John Engel okay thanks. i got my rears lowered but my front currently still stock height lol

      Lol. Time to lower her down a little.

  • @CaptEricS
    @CaptEricS 4 года назад +3

    Why would you want to do this? It has to change the castor and camber alignment? It also has to change the "scrub radius" then the toe is out. And what about the fact... this already is the lowset Corvette made to date?. You left out a lot of factors, John. Eric... ASE CMAT

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  4 года назад +5

      I will have an alignment done to correct those issues. As for it being the lowest corvette, I am not sure what that matters when lowering it more. LOL Just drive them and have fun.

    You don’t measure to the tire, you measure to the center of the hub.
