Wow. That is superb. If Neil Young decided to make his version of Pet Sounds, hired The Beatles as the session band, and got Syd Barrett to produce, the result would be The Flaming Lips.
It was recorded through a camera only, it seems. Not mixed into the video. Most cameras can't handle volume changes so there's loads of overload and distortion, as in this example.
Beautiful as always. I saw the Lips live a few weeks ago. Wayne is certainly using pitch correction live as he sounded great. And COOL on Ivans Rickenbacker!!
Cameraman had an issue with audio input. Plus the volume from this rehearsal was so loud it caused issues for his input mic. We were not allowed to use their board mix. Bummer for everyone, but we wanted to share the behind-the-scenes moment.
Ryan Smith Oh yes I meant playing in that particular show was not a high point in their carreer, if you compare it to the Letterman "See the leaves" performance for example.
Why did Ivens ditch the "goth version of the hero from John Carpeter's Christine" to become an aging frat bro? Why did Ciff get "Cluffed" from the band?..oh ya...Wayne is stingy.

sir - that should be a t-shirt! greatness!
Yeah that's well put
Bingo
Fav' track off THE SOFT BULLETIN. :DDDD
Dixxy same here! the way it flows into sleeping on the roof killed me when i first heard it
Awesome, I nearly give up hope and then they surprise me. Thank you
My favorite song...
DAMN that is one good performance and one incompetent recording engineer/producer.
true! :-(

I concur....jeeez...great performance...trumpsound...
This is just beautiful!
Increible arreglo, extendieron el requinto mas que en la version del album...
Esta cancion es dios, gracias flaming lips.
that is one hell of an outro. god damn.
Just saw them play the soft bulletin in full at the opera house and teared up during the jam out into, was so mental
Really creative dude..
Pure Genius. Crazy arrangement. Unique. Made a Rainbow. feel free to add anything I missed. Blurry eyes also.
Happy free fall.
Steven Drozd is magic.
This is a great version.
I believe that Wayne's guitar is pretty unique. And that the man behind the mixer was deaf or drunk ;)

Is it cold in there?
does the guitar bubble have a function? Looks cool anyway
looks kinda dumb actually. It serves no purpose
homemade reverb
@@duckbrew it's reverb jackass
I think it might prevent feedback but it was also likely a prop idea from their bubble shows.
it seems like the guy on the left (not the bald guy) carries them...
So true. I hope Steven never starts taking heroin again...
Peter Bonde he actually did relapse around the time they recorded The Terror. As far as I know he’s good again though
He does.
Three things prevented me from enjoying this performance: white balance, imagine stabilization and audio quality.
his guitar must be in a hand bubble
Wayne Coyne took the name of the song too seriously. It really looks like he is disintegrating.
Why is the recording and mix so fucking terrible on this? MONO? Really?
Cameraman had an issue with audio input. Plus the volume from this rehearsal was so loud it caused issues for his input mic. We were not allowed to use their board mix. Bummer for everyone, but we wanted to share the behind-the-scenes moment.
Drag much?

@@mantra3000 the mixing was shit as well

Studio band. Love the song though. Also, that's the dumbest looking guitar I've ever seen.
+batterista Are you saying the lips aren't a live band?? have you been to any of their shows at all? you'd be quite surprised
seems to me like a mod to cut down on the feedback you'll typically get using acoustic-electric guitar with full band..
GraemeGoetz they are ok live. But wayne does struggle. And the live arrangement of she don't use jelly is awful. Imo
Best live show on planet earth
@@chrisbattista5978 I just experienced it for the first time in MA earlier this year - cathartic experience!
