3 years on and I'm still endlessly playing this Album. How these guys make pain, loss and death sound so so beautiful is simply amazing. Not just my favourite Lips album but one of my favourite albums of all time, and I am lucky enough to of started my musical journey with the beetles. A magical, beautiful album
That's so interesting to hear and makes me want to listen to it more closely. I love the Flaming Lips but don't hold this album in as high regard as you do. Could be just a difference of opinion but I'm curious to see if I can hear what you're hearing
@@joemetzger1687 So pleased I have prompted you to have another listen with a different ear. If it still sounds the same, no harm done, but I really hope you find the love I have for this beautiful album. All the best.
How rare it is to have a connected album from start to finish these days - when albums were your friends and you'd spend the night on the floor with them, the vinyl, and a sleeve of liner notes.
I really, really miss that feeling. Thanks for saying what was in my heart but I couldn't quite describe. I know the comment is 9 months old as of this post, but that's fine. :)
This album reminds me why I fell in love with The Flaming Lips in the first place when I first heard The Soft Bulletin. The combination of sadness and euphoria communicated through psychedelic rock is something they do incredibly well. This late in the band's career, this is one of their best albums.
This album stands up to the classics of any era...and despite the sonic references to the past...the retrospection... and sense of social distance of the band and audience in their own bubbles is the perfect image of contemporary pandemic humanity.
One of their better albums. Feels like a story from start to finish, it has bangers on it, and surprisingly the song about Dinosaurs is one of my favorites off it lol.
Discovered this by accident. The marketing for this album is criminal. I had no idea it even existed. Didn't see it anywhere. It's a shame the promotion is just not happening because this is beautiful. It reminds me of that Post-Yoshimi era that I need in my life. I love you guys. I saw you in concern in Raleigh, NC a couple years ago. I still have the sweater.
Your comment was 2 years late and mine is 2 years later from that! How am I JUST now finding this?! I’m in tears. Just starting this album and wondering if maybe it’s just because now is the time I need it. Anyway…take care and listen again! Hope to see all of you that commented and liked this video at a live show with Wayne coming in a bubble from the sky. Do you realize…?
I first learned about Flaming Lips when I saw them open up for Lush, spring '92, at the Palace in L.A. I was right in front of Wayne, and I remember that he used a toy lazer gun as an instrument, and that a lot of the songs were fun and catchy, but they didn't really cling on to me. And I wasn't exactly a fan of that tangerine song. However, about 12 years ago, I went recording shopping with a new friend. He agreed to buy Felt if I bought Soft Bulletin, and I have been impressed by Flaming Lips ever since. I think they are ridiculously talented; just their cover of the first Stone Roses album is jaw-droppingly impressive. But all the records that they have been releasing on Bella Union are breathtaking creative, not just because of their musicianship, but that after so many years of recording music, Flaming Lips does not seem to run out of ideas. They do not repeat themselves, or rely on comfortable musical crutches. They innovate and innovate and innovate. Flaming Lips has my respect and admiration and much more.
Sigh. An adorable album. What a bunch of songwriters, romantics and evergreen cotton brainers! I looove it! Beatlesque and very psychedelic, beautiful melodies all over. I thought AIR were the first with this retro style...but the flaming lips are, in reality, as it seems! Were a nice band and still are. Sounds as George Harrison played the gutitar, wow! How can someone dislike...its great! 😂😉🤩😎✊🤷♂️💁♂️🙆♂️
The free Flaming Lips show on the riverfront in downtown Portland was hands down the best show I’ve ever been to. This album rekindled that feeling again. A close friend is moving to Norman, Oklahoma and I’m kinda jealous he’ll be in the vicinity of The Womb.
At War With The Mystics was my 1st exposure To TFL. Accidental Discovery. Loved it but I have many Musical Rabbit Holes. Tame Impala and KGLW brought me back . An Awesome Journey continues 🛸
Wow! The music gives me a feeling I can’t even describe!! Grew up listening to the Flaming Lips & now in my thirties I get to raise my kids listening to this amazing music! Can’t wait to see you guys play live again in a few months! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Perfect songs to read the subjective forms of the clouds and to follow with a tender eye the grooves of the stems of the trees; appreciate the complex writing of the nested branches, taste the colors of the decomposition of light into water droplets in a garden, and strongly feel the wet soil of ancestral forest to perceive the traces of animals from deep past 🍍🌴
The Flaming lips work feels more like a modern version of a symphonic composition than just another album. Maybe just me. What I'm trying to say is this is masterful work and spreads my ear table with bountiful joy. Good stuff. Ps I really want to let him out of the bubble but I'm not sure if that is what he wants
Listening to flaming lips songs since 1993 rediscovered them e just this year by RUclips and live footage.. U am rarely aI dreamer but i just would love to be able to go to US concert this year and acknowledge the sheer divine Madness that they are... Will have to win the lottery... Or you guys come to Berlin!! The city needs you!!
I love you for ever...I yet had only 2 wonderfull parties with you in Hamburg and Cologne...love everything about you....thanx for everything! Bless you, Barbie López
I was just planning a small project to piece together the previously released videos to the full album length, now it’s already done for me! Thanks so much for this!!
You guys fill my heart with inspiration every time I listen or think about you. This song is classic lips to me and I love it. I hope we get to meet or work on a song together or play together one day.
Absolutely BRILLIANT, both the music and the images. [One quibble is that it is unfortunate that some of the more serious songs on the album are paired with footage of zonked hipsters doing celebratory dancing in bubbles; it would arguably be more appropriate to see more footage of the band performing, and maybe more psychedelic/surreal/abstract imagery, with the audience deemphasized.] Anyway: THANK YOU, FLAMING LIPS: you've given us something here we can never repay, a powerful musical statement to help us process our grief and grapple with the wide spectrum of the mystery of our short, fragile lives.
Difficult to compare the coloring of his voice to other male singers. Definitley blessed. It's nice that he's been able to sustain that timbre from when they were young and just starting out. Probably not smoker. They say he (the singer) is a great drummer, too.
The complete album is a master piece ,I like all the songs ,god en the police I would say stands for me ,but it's just genial ,keep on this Trac flaming lips its just music what humans need to be united.
I've been a fan since Transmissions and bought this when it came out. Listened twice but couldn't get through the whole album either time as it sounded like one song going forever. It's interesting that people like it generally.

This is most succinct and saturated definition of the Flaming Lips to date. Well done.

Truly is a concept album fully enveloping one soul's journey through this all encompassing chaotic paradise

almost almost with par with Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi this album is overlooked in my opinion mainly because it came out during the pandemic.

Lush is a really good band.
This is the BEST album to come out of the ashes of 2020, period
The Flaming Lips are such a special band, their music gets right into your soul, American Head, best Album since Yoshimi.
Those soaring melodies!!
Oczy Mlody gets me everytime....perhaps slightly overlooked. I rate that up there with Yoshimi. This one's getting close too for sure.
Best since Embryonic
