Considering we have now done 6000miles and entered our 14th country today the van has been really good. We had one breakdown where it threw the fan belt off. But Merc go us back on the road the same day. Within two hours. 😃
We've been in Füssen in early June for an extended weekend just after the Neuschwanstein castle reopened for visitors. It was only the second time after 45 years for me visiting the castle although we just live 3 hours north of Füssen. I remembered everything being much bigger..... I had no idea back in June that by now I would actually own a MWB Sprinter and spend most of my after-work time converting it into a campervan. I really appreciate the work of you and so many other people showing how they converted a van in every detail. So I decided to do the insulation Greg Virgoe style with Kingspan boards rather than Armaflex, which seems to be the mainstream method in Germany. Thanks again!

We did one of those roller coaster rides in Churwalden, Switzerland a few months ago. Gets pretty hairy in places and the backdrop just finishes off the experience 👌🏼

I love driving those roads. But you know I suspected our brake discs. (I’ll send you a pic). We were lucky. We did toboggan at churwalden cost a hell of a lot more than 14 euros. I’ll be doing the German one next time. Those views look so different with the snow on.

Yes on our last trip ( I have kept the footage unseen) there was a small fruit farm high on the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the distance and terraced into the hillside. Beautiful place. I says to Lou when we parked up. “I could happily live here” it just felt perfect.
Glad to see, that you had a good time here in Bavaria! Penser Joch is a pretty easy to drive mountain pass, albeit the view from the top is spectecular. Staying on top near the restaurant is actually not that great when it is cold, because it is a very windy place. The spot on the road down where you stayed is much better, I stayed there several times over the last years.
Unfortunately the parking spot on the bend where you see us was also really windy and very exposed. After taking the drone footage we headed down to the small village below. You will see next time 👍🏼😃
What a brilliantly filmed adventure!. It really felt like I was doing the ride down watching this. You have chosen the best time to do all of this, as you never know when or where the next travel restrictions will happen. Amazing memories for you to look back on and beats the old ways of a photo album that said little, other than the fact it seems nice.

That pass is doable. There was a Concorde A class came up after us. The Sella Pass another great one has coaches going over it so no problem. The roads are very good to be honest.
Seeing the half an hour poster at the end got me thinking. I need a three month version. Still haven't finished my build yet and it's been over a year.
thanks for posting, takes me back to when we drove that road. hopefully we will get back there one day. one of favourite spots in europe. Doing a light weight van build pays off when you adventure into the mountains. Do you have any issues with the pressure drop on things like toilet/tanks etc?
Small lightweight van is the way to go for mountains. Our big old us is all of its 3.5T but she did well. Bottles of drink were bulging 😳 but luckily all our water tanks are vented so no issues there. 🙏🏼😃
No way I'm getting in a chair lift again. Scares me. Even worse on the way down. Cable cars as well. The Sommerrodelbahn is really good fun, though. Got caught like you - not like a bike where you control the bank, so as it banks you can be caught off guard and out you go. Good to be reminded of summer, blowing a gale and snow here😡
@@GregVirgoe comes very quickly here. There's a German bank holiday at the end of October, within a week of that it usually goes from OK or better, to winter.

You and Rob are like 2 kids in a sweetie shop 🤣 Looking at yr Insta you've already left that area but yr ever back id defo check out the Stelvio Pass made famous by Top Gear.. I’ve tried a few and they always seem to break after a short while 😤
Yeah we are like a couple of big kids. But such a good laugh. The screen mounts are made by Griffin. Think they were just cheap ones but worked really well 👍🏼😃
Yes they’ve hardly had any wear at all. They are brilliant. I’m getting 2mpg more than the old tyres and the grip in wet and snow is incredible. Oh did I mention how quiet they are too, not like those big knobbly things 😉😆👍🏼
We have packed much more into this trip than before. Visited 14 countries and travelled 6k miles. So it’s approx £3k per month 😳 But there are a lot of big expensive things like paragliding, the glacier express, three ferry trips ⛴
@@GregVirgoe Wow!! That sounds a lot of expense but if you consider what say a 2 week package holiday costs in just 1 location it really isn't and you have the freedom to roam wherever you want at your own pace. I'm so envious, have a safe trip & I'll keep watching.
@@mattysheriff1881 we do like to treat ourselves, dine out often, a third of that is just on travel exp, tunnel, diesel, ferry, tolls, vignettes mainly due to the mileage we ended up doing.
Yes totally 👍🏼😃 I have even used my hook up cable from my inverter to power my hook up connection so I could use the 230 sockets in the garage for a short time.

We tried sleeping widthways in a MWB crafter similar body shape to ours but shorter and it was painful because you can stretch your legs out. Maybe a Fiat Ducato would be better as it’s much wider at the back.

er its not the convention, the real convention has been forgotten ; its priority to that coming down the hill because you must assume their brakes might fail
I think you’ll find the priority is given to the vehicle driving uphill as the vehicle coming down has greater degree of control. Google it if you don’t believe me 😋
The vehicle coming down can roll start where as the vehicle going up has to try and get going on a steep uphill with no momentum. Far better that the uphill vehicle keeps going and those coming down yield. Same when hiking as the uphill Walker has a smaller field of view.
@@GregVirgoe you re right the chinese whisper has become biblical. 2 lorries meet on hill ; risk assess , wheres the danger ? The uphill can always stop, the downhill may not be able to.
@@glossyprince but then can the uphill truck get going again and risks rolling backwards with no control. Whereas the downhill truck can easily get going again with full control.

I think we picked a good time. We have had no restrictions on travel and as it has been so quiet made the most of the time we had.

Download the free RE-OPEN EU app and use the free updated travel guide. It tells you exactly what you need when going from country to country. We had to fill one out for Croatia and another one to get back to the UK
The forms are filled in on respective country government website prior to entry and you get a confirmation email and ref no.

@@GregVirgoe Yes, he went to chase after me again when I restarted but my wife held onto him properly that time. If we go to that slide I'll make sure that our current dogs are safely in the van.
The catch nets on some of those bends on the roller coaster don't instill confidence
I think it’s more to stop flying objects hitting people below as the sleds on that one cannot come off as the have wheels on three sides of the rails.

er its not the convention, the real convention has been forgotten ; its priority to that coming down the hill because you must assume their brakes might fail
I think you’ll find the priority is given to the vehicle driving uphill as the vehicle coming down has greater degree of control. Google it if you don’t believe me 😋
The vehicle coming down can roll start where as the vehicle going up has to try and get going on a steep uphill with no momentum. Far better that the uphill vehicle keeps going and those coming down yield. Same when hiking as the uphill Walker has a smaller field of view.
@@GregVirgoe you re right the chinese whisper has become biblical. 2 lorries meet on hill ; risk assess , wheres the danger ? The uphill can always stop, the downhill may not be able to.
@@glossyprince but then can the uphill truck get going again and risks rolling backwards with no control. Whereas the downhill truck can easily get going again with full control.
