That was a rather impressive open-air colony. I’m glad you gave that honey a second opinion.
The second opinion was a very good idea, it made me want more. That was some great tasting honey. God's peace brother.

This is the first time I’ve seen an external hive. Very emotional viewing today. The bees created a 😅work of art. You are so fortunate doing the job you love and so are we to be able to watch the process of re-homing. Little glimpses of heaven.
What a joy it was for us to do this removal. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch. God's peace Mary.

I enjoy watching you putting the comb on the frames after the removal job. I like Joey's rubber band method. seems so much more effecient. I realize you can't do that with this type of hive. Good enjoyable vid. Thanks.
I have to say, the method I use to put the comb in the frames is the best way I have use so far, simple and fast...and the bees seem to like it as well. You will be seeing a bit more of that method in the next few videos. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ellen.
Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, that was one cool open aired colony. I’ve only seen 1 in my lifetime and my job was framing the comb and just like Larry the cable guy “I getter done”.

That was truly incredible! The one I cut out of the Chinaberry tree 2-3 years ago was 1/5 that size but your removal brought back the memories of that day in October. Vacuumed the majority of the bees from up in the lift, and then cut the branch off and removed the comb from it and framed them on the ground. Put my bee vac in the Layens just like you did. God Bless guys! Great video!

There's a joke here somewhere.....Two beekeepers and a rodeo clown walk in a bar...... 🤣 What an amazing open air hive!!! So obviously rain and cold doesn't hurt bees?? That kind of defies "beekeeper logic" doesn't it?? Really enjoyed this one!!! Thanks Jeff and Charlie!!!

I thought I was high when mr. Ed said he was gonna put those continent size slabs in a layans hive until I saw the trick. Sidewards rubberbands!
Bahahahaha 😂
Honeybees, in a way, have a kind of "built-in heat system" for themselves (IIRC, anyways...)
I remember hearing about it in a video where several of 'em basically gave a Hornet a fatal heat stroke by basically dogpiling the guy and cranking the heat to 11.
Imagine being microwaved by honeybees... 🎛

If I ever get back to Louisiana I would love to look the two of you up. I have a love for bees. Unbelievable!! That was the most amazing external tree hive I've seen! Even though you didn't find the queen you have plenty of emergency cells to take over the hive. Is that the most bee's you had to wrangle up? Second, if the bee vac gets full do you have another one to get the rest of them? Thank you for sharing Mr Ed and Good Time Charlie. God Bless you both!!!!
It is not the most bees I've wrangled, but the highest hive I've ever wrangled. Yes, I always bring 2 vac bodies with me just for that case. Next weeks, video will actually show us doing that. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Phil.
Mr. Ed
Well done men very professional, as many swarm cells as there were, i wonder if the queen may have left with a swarm earlier, never have seen an open air hive like that, thanks for sharing..................
The is the possibility of the queen already leaving, and since we did not see her, I put a few cells in the hive to cover any doubts. Either way, I am going to be queen right. I love the idea of using templates to cut the comb. I suppose you'll just have to be very careful with manipulating these frames since they have no wire support.
Once they get them secured on the frames, since there are 4 sides for support, it should be alright...at least I'm hoping. Thanks for watching. God's peace Joe.
Mr. Ed
Very nice. I'm so glad to see you orienting the comb properly; however, putting the comb in the cooler upside-down is likely to kill the developing queen cells- or so I've been told, (I do so many Africanized cut-outs that are simply exterminations, *sigh).
Nice technique bringing the small foundation as a pattern for you comb. Interesting choice of a Layans hive to place them in.
God bless you too!
The good news is the queens in the cells were fine as they were used to re queen 4 other hives and those hives are now queen right. So glad I don't have Africanized bees to deal with here in Louisiana. Thank you for your blessings and for taking the time to watch the video, it is greatly appreciated. Mr. Ed
This looked like a beautiful natural colony surviving just fine on its own. I've removed many colonies in danger of extermination in structures where they interact with humans. In this case, I would like to know if leaving the colony alone would have been an option and maybe even better for the bees and the environment.
It is always the homeowners choice weather to remove a colony of bees from their property or leave them stay, and in this case, the owners had concerns for their cattle having the bees in the field and wanted the hive relocated. Also, in cases with open air colonies that are as large as this one was, they self destruct over time. Due to the weight of the comb and the exposer to the heat of summer, they break apart and wind up on the ground. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace William.

Was thinking about you today, that I hadn't seen you in awhile. Missed connections probably, but presto, there you are. Impressive, massive open aire colony. Think I saw the queen about the 3rd from the last comb you put in the cooler. (Didn't rewind to check). Interesting to see the trees are green in March. We'll see a tinge of green on the early stuff mid-April-ish. But leaves wont fully unfurl until mid-May. Even then, Locust wont come out till the 2nd week of June. I so desire to move down there. Warm weather, and catching bees, what could be sweeter than that? Thanks for sharing, Jeff... Until the next one!

This was a real whopper for sure! Thanks for watching. God's peace Russell.
Mr. Ed
With that honey tasting so fine, you might ask the property owner if you could keep 8-10 hives there.🙂
My concern would be the cattle that graze in the field, they are not to concerned with boxes and may upset them. Also, the homeowner had concerns about the hive being in the field so I do's think he would be very open to having hives there. Still, the thought crossed my mind. Thanks for watching. God's peace Gerard.
Mr. Ed
@JeffHorchoff : Solar electric fence on 'T' posts solves the cattle problem. Oil field royalty (12%-15%) of the honey harvest for rights to service the yard might persuade the owner. Everybody knows a 12 pound gallon of honey is worth way more than a 7.2 pound gallon of crude oil and much more tasty.

That was amazing! Beautiful comb and tons of bees. Really impressive. P.S. I’m with Charlie. I don’t do heights.
Great looking colony! Bees are pretty chill. Speaking from experience pretty sure you're gonna enjoy working the layens hive. God bless both of you guys.
I already have a long hive at the house, and I am really looking forward top working the Layen's this year as well. Thank you for your blessings and for watching, they are greatly appreciated. God is amazing and this is the example. Amazing and miraculous.
That was beautiful. It was a great perspective to see the hive and the removal. Glad they are going into a layens.

John Brown, bullfighter...even if an entertainer, couldnt have rodeo without you! Hugs!
You got that right, he put the whole thing together and got the job done right! Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
...One country boy exclaimed to a rodeo clown,"I'll be John Brown" looking at a huge bee hive, the rodeo clown turned in amazement and said, "me, too"!
That was massive! What a lucky find.
I still can't believe we came across one this nice. It's very rare to find one so large and in one piece. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
That was so cool to see that colony of bees.
Very nice! Show us more of that Lyans hive when the bees have settled??
I plan on doing just that right after the honey harvest. By then, the girls will have settled in real good and I can show them off...and possibly show the honey they have produced for us. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.

@@JeffHorchoff :) Easter bleesing to you as well:) yep I will be watching :)
Rare in my experience to have an exposed hive hanging off a single limb. Generally I find them built in a rat nest of twigs and branches and virtually nothing is usable. This was a perfect hive.
A real gem this one was. It's been years since I have seen one this large and still intact. Great hearing from you Tad, God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Ok for the lack of experience and knowledge, Why do the bees sometimes build an open air hive like that? What keeps the birds from eating them or the weather from harming them? This is so fascinating
I have no answer for your question, it just happens. Though it may seem to be a rare occurrence, it is not all that to uncommon, and I have seen a dozen or more in the years I have been keeping bees. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Evonne.
Mr. Ed
"What keeps the birds from eating them?"
Honeybees w/ "suicidal tendencies": _"MY ASS! THAT'S WHAT!"_
I got my wisecrack sense of humor from my Grandma Peg. ❤
@@trumediamix1I understand that nature intended them to live like that and not in boxes.
If we would have a bee hive like that in our forest, I would them let be bees. Actually I would be thrilled!
Jeff and Charlie, I've never seen anything like that in my life. How did that hive protect itself from robbers or wasp?, Winter winds? Wow, nature is amazing as are you guys. Thanks for sharing. Did you ever find the queen?
We never did find the queen, but to cover our bets, we added queen cells to make sure the hive would be queen right. If she was in there, they will work it out between themselves. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
That is so absolutely beautiful ❤❤, I love watching honey bee's 🍯 🍯 🐝 🐝, what makes them swarm? When you was tasting the honey good time Charlie was wondering where his was 😂😂, I definitely want some good honey 🍯 🍯 🍯 and honey 🍯 🍯 comb , and would love to try the bee Bread 🍞
An awesome colony for sure and a real beauty to behold! Bees swarm as a means of perpetuation, and it's how bees survive and multiply. If you are looking for some good honey, check out your local farmers market, there's bound to be a local beekeeper there selling local honey. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Mr. Ed
That is one of your best ever!!
Thank you Rachel, and I have to agree, it is one of my best. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Lots of nice brood on that comb.
And bees and swarm cell to go along with it. What a awesome hive! Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Bill.

Wow. What a beauty!
That tree is a great place for swarm traps. I imagine every swarm within 3 miles will land there.
We are already making plans to do that. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Great video Jeff. By the grace of God.
Always by the grace of God. Glad you enjoyed the video Larry, thanks for taking the time to watch it. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Super cool! Open hives like that have no chance of surviving here so I never see them!
They don't last long down here either, two or three years tops and they they are gone. This one was certainly a spectacular one for sure! Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Gary.
