Hey Rick, I love your videos, I have a problem timing my 77 xs750, the Mark's will not line up no matter what I do, All 3 points open about halfway between the Mark's, I'm suspicious a previous owner moved the index pointer. How do I varify it's in the correct position?
Hi Mudder - thanks for your comment! Sorry to hear you're having trouble- I'd verify the governor wheel is aligned correctly to the crankshaft first - (check the 3:00 mark of ep. 24) - if everything looks good, pop the valve cover to verify valve positioning to get cyl #1 (left side)to TDC. Once TDC is confirmed, check the pointer- it should be aimed at the "T" on the timing wheel. Adjust the pointer as necessary. Once #1 is set, confirm the correct positioning of the pointer for the two other cyl at TDC also. Hope that helps!
This is a counter clock wise points mechanism with advance ? Is it invincible to fit same with a two points system on a TDM 850 on the left hang side note two piston are tdm at same time any body have an answer.
Struggling with my 79 xs750 triple. I can't seem to sync #1 point to open correctly. It wants to open on the #2 point or there about. I've gapped all the points correctly and moved the plate to both extremes to see if it would change anything but nothing? What am I missing?
I've got roughly the same issue, did you ever find a solution? I've taken it all apart and the center wheel is mounted correctly as it can only mount one way but im still not on target.
Tengo un moto xs 750 honda era de platinos la quisieron convertir a ensendido más moderno y no prende, pero me quedaron la tapa original del estaré o bobinas y mesesito está pieza si pudieras de ir dónde la consigo y si emsendera con lo electrovo
My best suggestion if you're having trouble with an aftermarket ignition conversion is to contact the supplier/manufacturer. Dynatek seems to be the biggest name in ignition conversions for Honda 750s. Try contacting them at www.dynaonline.com. They may be able to steer you in the right direction.
What's the worst that could happen if one were to ream the adjustment plates for 2 and 3 a touch to get the smidge of advance needed? Currently had to retard #1 to get 2 and 3 closer
I'd say the WORST that could happen would depend on how close to the edge of the slot is opened up to. If it's really close to the edge, the plate could vibrate loose and lose the timing.
Nice video. BUT you don't turn the point plate in the direction of rotation to advance the timing, you turn it that way to retard the timing. #2 you are not explaining the advance mech. Some engine's timing marks are meant to be adjusted with the advancer all the way advanced.
Sonofagun! I can't believe I scripted that in reverse! I must've watched the draft 10 times and still missed it. Thank you Ted for pointing that out. I've updated the description with the correction.
Ive been working on a xs750 triple for months until I found this video. Thank you!
@@S0G4Y Thanks for your comment! Glad the video could help!
The graphics in this video were so helpful to me, a beginner who can't get his first craigslist bike to run. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for the kind words! Glad the vid was helpful!
Dont forget to sub if you havent already for more to come!

The Best video on this subject really , many thanks !

The only thing that comes to mind is the center cam that operates the points. Is it perhaps mounted 180⁰ on the timing wheel?

@@RicksGarage I'm only off by a sliver but I think I'll track down a donor plate to experiment with

Left hand side, and TDC, sorry
You advance it by turning it opposite the engine rotation
H3lp ricks mesesito parte de lado bobinas, parte de platinos o como convertirla a electrónico el ensendido
Yikes you bought the 1977 mistake. Those points will kill your engine faster than low oil. Yamaha knew this in one year.
