Uh I've worked on and repaired BMW cars for years without an issue. However, I think what you are ignoring is the fact that technicians don't like these cars because they are overly complicated FOR NO REASON. Explain to me why a water pump needs a computer module to control it and why the possible benefits of that outweigh the increased chance of failure. That is just an example of the questionable engineering choices BMW makes on their cars. If you like BMW that's cool but don't blatantly ignore the valid reason why so many GOOD technicians dislike BMW engineering.
So basically the mechanics are the problem not the cars. Essentially the engines are more intelligent than the dolts working on them.
Don,t buy a BMW, problem solved
Listened to this, took my car to a BMW/Mini specialist and he literally didn't need to scan it. Told me on the spot what the issue is from his raw experience. Made it a cheap same day fix.
If you want BMW then buy an old ones from 90s - completely different cars. More reliable and cheap to maintain.
Sounds more like the mechanics have no idea what they're doing.
Bloody hell how many problems can these things have , thank you I definitely won’t be buying one of these money pits
Scotty Kilmer is one of these old ones 😂
My Lexus mechanics are always happy.
BMW stands for break my wallet.
Great video right on point. I'm a US tech, with over 30 years experience. When I first started as an auto mechanic back in the mid-80s, when Ford Chevy and General Motors all went to electronic fuel injection. All of the older guys in the shop would say is, get rid of that electronic fuel injection and stick a carburetor on it. Because they had no clue what to do. I 16 years old I embraced the technology, and wanted to learn as much as I could.
There's an independent BMW specialist garage near me, they never take any other vehicle. Youngish owner who keeps up with new tech, well impressed. Great video.
@BMW Doctor I don’t agree with you actually. I think BMW makes clever, efficient engines but they are not designed with maintainability in mind. For example you have to take so many parts off to get to the water pump or the alternator. It’s just poor design that mechanics need to have such specific and advanced knowledge in order to maintain these vehicles.
Forgot to mention the oil pan leak. Got to pull the transmission. Simple oil pan job is turned to 12 hours thanks to BMW
I took my BMW E60 to a shop to change the valve cover gasket. I have the same engine as yours. I normally work on my own car, but I let the mechanics handle the valve cover because of the torque of the bolts for it. I don't want to break it. That is an easy engine to work on. Very reliable. The shop foreman was telling me how he don't like BMW's because they are problems. I told him I had this car for over 11 years never had trouble. Other cars are a lot harder to work on. I get very angry when they do that talk. These engines are very easy to work on nothing to it. I am glad they are easy to work on because BMW has always been the car of my dreams every since I was 7 years old.
The reason most people dislike BMWs is usually the drivers. 😱 😎👍
I always do the maintenance myself mostly because I'm a car guy and believe me or not you'll save ALOT of cash trust me. But in fact, what scares me is the newer cars especially the electronics.
I have the mini r53. Never worked on a car before in my life. Whilst not the quickest to work on, I’ve really enjoyed learning how to do stuff and I’ve pretty much rebuilt the thing now.
This is a shame really because a properly looked after BMW can be in its prime between 10 and 20 years old. I have managed to do this for the last 30 years. Buy doing most of my own repairs I have saved a huge amount of money.
Spot on in a lot of your points. I have a couple year experience on BMW and the learning curve was big when starting on the product. They are the most advanced vehicles on the road and you need to know how the system works before working on it.
