Penny Marshall was considered for the part of Gloria in All In The Family opposite husband Rob Reiner . She looked and sounded like a combination of Stapleton and O Connor . Everyone one of that foursome were real New Yorkers . I guess the powers to be wanted Ms Struthers . Maybe for sex appeal which I think , or some other reason .
