Her performance of this song is as close an aspiration to the divine as I am likely to achieve, and in the words of John Gillespie Magee Jr "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth - Put out my hand and touched the Face of God." I recall hearing in 1995 this tract from her 1987 album "Glade Jul" whilst driving, and having to pull off the road as unaccountable tears rose up. I find myself similarly affected listening to this 15 years later. So whatever your faith may be, peace for 2011 :-)
Something similar happened to me listening to an FM classical station that was playing her. My GF at the time was saying WTF? yeah beautiful EX-GF, that's what. she was too stupid to ever figure out why WHAT was I supposed to tell her?

Each singer brings his or her own interpretation to a song. Some will resonate with us, whereas others won't. Why can't several singers sing this beautifully? I think they can and do. I like Sissel, but I like others, too. I like those who have mastered their craft. Because different people like different interpretations, no one's is going to be definitive. This one is lovely.

It is about time to listen some beautiful Christmas carols...like O holy Night in Norwegian from the timeless and forever shining star Sissel!....When I arrive Norway in Aug, 1981...I heard Sissel for the first time singing in a group at Grieghallen in Bergen..I exclaimed to the people around me...that this Girl (Sissel) will become a pride of Norway with her cool, crystal voice and a cool and wonderful personality...a unique combination....and that prediction appeared to be true...Wonderful!:)
I think she´s really talented instead! Her performance of O mio babbino caro is the best I have ever heard. She is able to transmit the feeling of the song and her italian is really perfect!!!
So is her English.. she has absolutely NO English dialect sounds like she was born in USA. I've heard that she knows a dozen languages HOW does she do this? This woman is not real... however last year in July, 2019 she sang in front of Tabernacle choir and tell you what she received a standing ovation afterwards that she could NOT hold back her tears from... yes all these years I thought she was an Angel but now I found that she is actually human.

A fine performance, indeed. The audio is not se good, thats true. Sissel sings the swedish version of Holy Night/O Helga Natt / (Noe¨l cantique/Adam, french original) soft and warm at the same time. Listen even to Jussi Björling singing O Helga Natt /Holy Night, the best version of all in my opinion.
