A lot of us here in Europe are hoping Bernie Sanders will make it. I just don't understand why free education and free health care is seen as such taboo by many in the US. It works here, and it's not something that is entirely free. We do pay our fair share of taxes in order for everyone to have free education and health care. I feel safe knowing my fellow neighbor and my family and relatives will be safe and covered for costs when a bad day comes. Yes, I pay taxes that are high but I also at the same time have a high standard of living. There is a balance. If we had to pay for education and health care, our governments would fall in the next hour. You work your whole life, it's owed to you by the state.
+juniper1972p Not only that but Europé usally follow US policies like the neoliberalism for the past 30+ years. So maybe Europé will start to embrace the social democratic`policies past again?
Okay then. I love the crap that the interviewer says here. Endorses a totally sexist stance at 3:39 in that she asks why Susan is not supporting Hillary because she's a feminist and a woman. Then at 4:23 talks about Bernie wanting everybody having health insurance and free colledge like it's a reason not to vote for him. LoL. What a tool. Susan rebukes her solidly and there is nothing miss CNN can say about it. #FeelTheBern
LOVE LOVE LOVE you Susan! You were so articulate on the CNN interview and answered her questions politely, succinctly and simply told the truth like Bernie.
Literally the way the CNN reporter talks about free healthcare and higher education boggles my mind. How can anyone perceive that to be a bad thing. When people are either dying because they can't afford treatment or are in debt for a majority of their lives because of insane tuition, how can you call these things handouts?
+Tom S. They let her on because they knew that she wasn't ready for prime time. I kept thinking, wish that was Cenk being interviewed. There is a skill she lacks.
+Tom S. Talking about Bernie with a supporter gives them a platform to remind viewers about what "critics" are saying. The interviewee's remarks are only half the conversation, it's still 50% Clinton stump.
Here in Canada, if a politician said he wanted to get rid of our healthcare, he will be bashed so hard he will never even win a community council seat.
+Rick C And, yet, it _is_ being done. You're correct that none would challenge it head-on.....but many can & have allowed for extra billing as well as remove sundry procedures from the "covered" list. Canadians should pay attention, and object to, any & all americanization of the system. Just because it's hidden, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
+John W I have always taken healthcare for granted, and thought it is a right in a developed nation. Americans are like brothers to us Canadians, and I only wish every American will get basic healthcare like it was water one day.
"He wants everybody to have health insurance, free college tuition for everybody, and.. and... those things just aren't possible". It always amazes me when people try to argue against everyone having the right to a decent education and health. These are basic human rights.
+SuperSmashyfication $30bn for bombs to drop in Syria and Iraq in 2016. Or $60bn to send Americans to college tuition-free. America spends nearly double as a % of GDP on healthcare comparerd to other modern nations, yet millions are still uninsured. You have the money already, it is simply a case of changing your priorities.
+J Lee No it's a human right to go to Wallmart With an AR15, it's not a human right to get insuline if you got diabetis. But you do have a human right to find a hole to climb into and die.
America is one of the only developed countries in the world that doesn't have a tax run universal healthcare system. I've literally never seen a group of ppl whine more about taxes than the general American population when it comes to healthcare. MEANWHILE if you take a look into where you current tax payer dollars are going you'd spend less time complaining about something that would benefit your country as a whole and more time being pissed at the current inefficiency of your system. Millions spent on fighting PP, billions spent on building sports stadiums and maintaining your over crowed prisons, trillions going into the military and the pockets of your presidential candidates. All while America is TRILLIONS of dollars in debt and they've already breached their borrowing limits from other countries. The entire system needs to change and tax dollars need to be redirected. Adding a better healthcare system is something a leading country NEEDS, especially if it wants to keep calling itself the "Leader of the free world" You can call me "numbnuts" for disagreeing with you, but there are several countries which operate this way and almost every one of those countries don't understand why Americans keep leaning on the idea that it "doesn't work"
The GOP's "every man for himself!" mentality is just awful. Universal healthcare and education is just considered normal and a basic human right here in Australia.
I am afraid Susan is right. If the US don't grab this chance it may be too late. It will be so hard to rally people again around these issues and they will now believe it cannot be changed and cynicism will prevail.
+Bjarne Søegaard No. If Bernie will not become president it will not mean last chance. It will for sure delay the revolution - or whatever you want to call it - by years or even decades. But it will eventually come. Later = more radical. US citizens have now chance to change their country back to democracy and US oligarchs have chance to save their skin and their wealth. If you delay it you will later on radically change to socialistic country and you will lynch your royal families as you go.
Balaz Hidegety Well, I hope there will be a later chance - but as you write, it will then be even harder and more radical and more conventional revolutional like. So, please US, vote Sanders for president and bring some honesty and integrity back to politics and make the government work for all people. Go Iowa :) - you may set the tone, :)
I LOVED this article. thanks for telling it like it is man! Awesome. Susan is one of my heroes in the actors guild, she's a truth sayer and I agree. Bernie is out best bet for actual change!
Her reaction to the idea that healthcare is a basic human right is exactly why we need Bernie Sanders... she probably spends more on shoes than most people have to pay for insurance for their whole families. I've spent most of my life in poverty without insurance. I watched my father die last year because he couldn't afford health insurance and he was denied medicare. This is the reality for millions of Americans and you're worried about it being perceived as a "hand out?"
TYT: Your videos are Excellent. Thank you for all the work you do! I totally agree with you! And I applaud Susan Sarandon for standing up and speaking out for Bernie. People will listen to her...they know she's telling the truth...unlike some of the candidates running for office.

She proves she is no feminist. She got everything from her marriage to Bill, and selling out to Big Finance, that is not feminist.

Agreed. Most feminists, despite the misrepresentation of them, believe in equality. In an equal political environment, a man should be elected if their ideas are better and a woman should if her ideas are better.
Susan Sarandon rocks....she is gorgeous and brilliant and has more integrity than any pop star I've ever seen in my ling life. And she is RIGHT ON TARGET about who needs to win the presidency this time! The need will carry the day and she believes it too!!
Tuition free college is not a "handout" its an investment. Tuition free college means a larger body of educated people which means more innovation which leads to new industries and job creation which leads to higher incomes, lower poverty and lower unemployment. This is not complicated people
+Brandon Jackson they know this, they aren't stupid. They are trying to confuse the actual viewship who watch them. Its a very Fox news like tactic, but it works to a degree
Status Q more specifically, taxes on wall street derivatives speculation and high risk frequency trading, which was the direct cause of the 2008 collapse, which is still by the way, able to happen again because it was never fixed
CNN is more cringe-inducing than Fox News. At least Fox News is entertainingly shameless about their preposterous narratives. CNN routinely stumbles its way through trying to look credible and unpurchased and it's utterly painful to watch.
4:29 I love how the reporter literally says "He wants everyone to have health insurance, free college tuition for everybody..." like those are bad things. Does she realize how terrible she sounds?
Just congratulations to Jordan Chariton for getting in to yet that interview, and to TYT as a whole for making sure they put their people out there on the scene. I don't always agree with TYT, but they deserve greater recognition in their commentary on what people need to be aware of.
I'm still blown away as to how people can be against free health care and free college tuition. Why? You're worried it might damage the economy? Leaving it unchecked damages it too like in 2008.
Great segment, Cenk. As a Canadian who is on the outside looking in at what is going on in American politics, I'm always amazed at how different news stations such as Fox and CNN seem more interested in promoting their own particular political agenda, then they are at simply reporting the news and conducting interviews in an unbiased manner.
+IvanMtl I'M EUROPEAN AND FEEL THE SAME WAY, ALTHOUGH I GUESS IT'S THE SAME ALL OVER THE PLANET- EVEN HERE IN EUROPE. IT'S PRO ESTABLISHMENT WHEREVER YOU GO. THE INDEPENDENT MEDIA ARE VERY MUCH NEEDED TO CONTRAST ALL THE BIASED REPORTING RESPECTIVELY ALL THE LIES... INDEPENDENT VOICES LIKE TYT ARE VITAL FOR A HEALTHY, FUNCTIONING DEMOCRACY !
Remember when Civil Rights was impossible? Remember when women having the right to vote was impossible? Remember when going to the moon was impossible?
The European countries that ARE doing well are pretty much DEFINED by their health care. Take, for instance, all the Scandinavian countries that Bernie care for.. I'm from Sweden. We got free health care, 14 months parental paid leave per child, and eight weeks holiday. And we all got great tap water and cheap electrical bills. That CNN reporter blurted out that not all European countries are doing that well.. but I'm willing to bet, she has no idea what she's talking about. The more poor countries are similiar to the US and for similar reasons / politics /capitalism
I am Delighted I have just discovered TYT, actually, it was Susan Sarardon that caught my attention, what she said made so much sense. I'm thinking of changing my bank since I discovered it was owned by the Bilderberg Group.
I think Bernie Sanders would be a breathe of fresh air for the US. Coming from a socialist country myself, I have to say that it's not as bad as it's being spun by the American right wing. I would also like to mention that there is different degrees to socialism. obviously he's not proposing the possibility of converting America to socialism on an extreme level. Look at Canada, Australia, New Zealand for instance (just to name a few)... Yes taxes would increase however that is may vary depending on the household income of the individual. Give the man a chance! Worst case scenario... If you're unsatisfied with his policies and government, you simply vote him out next election.
Damn, I would have been getting angry by the end of that interview. Whatsername in the glasses was just *oozing* condescension with every word. Amazing. I hope Ms. Sarandon sees this clip.

+Etaukan I hope that this interview came across as infuriatingly patronizing to the CNN viewers as well, but you never know what kind of zombies are watching that crap anyway.
CNN just gave Bernie more inadvertent free advertisement with this interview. By showing that a strong feminist icon is more persuaded by Bernie's message than Hillary's, this could give pause for many other feminists to reconsider as well, especially given how articulate Susan's responses to the questions were.
It does not matter if you are a Democrat or Republican. If you believe in humanity then you should vote this man. YOU, American, will not get this kind of candidate in, probably, next 50 years.
The most glaring thing I take away from the two videos is that CNN (corporate news network) cut Susan's answers to shreds. They did not let her answer fully or in any kind of coherent sentences.
I love how interviewers, like Carol Costello here, preface their questions with "some people would say ..." or "the critics would say ..." when they're really speaking for themselves or their corporate masters.
"He wants everybody to have health insurance..." says the CNN reporter in a dismissive tone. WOW! YES, everyone should have a F'IN right to HEALTH INSURANCE! What planet are these people from?!
+jimmi izzy more and more "rights" are being borne as time goes on. Right to vote, Right to equal marriage, civil rights, and now, right to healthcare. there are 27 Amendments (so far) to the Constitution (25 really since one was prohibition, and another for its abolishment).
+jimmi izzy I appreciate your response, I really do. However, I disagree with some of the things you say. First of all, it sounds like you have a John Locke-esque view of rights (can't say I'm a fan of his). I personally do not believe in “objective”/natural rights. We have a right to dignity and to be treated fairly by others, this is the closest thing to a natural right…but for me, everything else would be relative. That’s not to say I don’t want progressive rights and an egalitarian society! Second, yes, the United States indeed does have wonderful, yet incredibly expensive medical technology at its disposal. But here is where medical ethics comes in. Is it necessary, or even ethical, to keep everyone alive for as long as possible using expensive technology (I’m talking about comatose patients, for example)? That’s an open ended question of course. I agree that high end technology is a privilege. But if we sacrificed some of these costly and over-the-top innovate resources and invested more in preventative methods, a much much greater slice of society would benefit. So…it becomes a question of whether we value the privileges for a few versus saving the lives of many.
+sohello123 "Well...a "right" is a relative term. Clearly we disagree on whether people are entitled to have the resources needed for a healthy life." For people to have a right to speak, or a right to own weapons, or a right to pursue, to name three examples, no other person has to be ordered to give anything. To give 300 million people the "right" to healthcare, you have to ensure that enough people work in healthcare. That means that theoretically you could be in the position to have to "order" free people to work in healthcare. What right do you have to order another person to do anything. To pay for people's right to healthcare, you have to order or confiscate money from other people and order them to pay for people who they don't even know, while they are (possibly) in worse shape than the people whom you are granting the right to. Nothing about this is morally sound. That is why free speech easily can be and should be a right, and healthcare should not be. And it is why a "right" is NOT a relative term. A right can only be something that doesn't require anything from another person.
"You're a feminist icon, Hillary is a feminist icon, why don't you support her?" I don't know English well enough to describe my annoyance for this phrase.
This may sound strange to some people, but feminism is not, and should not be about, having a vagina. It's about principle, or at least it should be. Philosophy should transcend the material.
+Rob Hill Thank you so much for pinning down a word that so many people love to bemoan but often get wrong. Feminism is constituted of multiple philosophies, many gender- and sex-based, others not so much so. There are so many feminist philosophies.
+Colonel Kill The problem though is that most women (and men) are this type of feminist. The "radical" ones are wildly over represented or exaggerated. The fact that the word feminist has become an intended insult only highlights why feminism is still needed.
Sarah Hie, I like that you put radical into quotation marks. It signifies something. My feminist theory professor actually walked us through the history of feminism, which is markedly different from the Women's Movement, and we learned that there is no such thing as "radical" feminism. That's a term used by the opposition who reject any feminist perspective at all. (The U.S. has a history of radicalizing people who ask for the same rights and access as the status quo. Women would not be an exception.) In think the people you are talking about on social media, who proclaim feminist ideologies, make statements for the sole sake of provocation, not seriousness. I find they tend not to be focused on grave disparities between the sexes and genders, but rather trivial slights of hand like name-calling. I apologize for the length, but you remind me that I have never read a single thing by a so-called radical feminist scholar, in all the years I have been mired in the subject matter.
How can Susan discuss anything with someone with that line of thinking? If you are a woman, you vote for Hillary. Free health care? Free college tuition? That's insane. People should get out of the US and get to know other countries.
What a difference a year makes! Now more people are open to the idea of single payer health care coverage and free tuition and we can thank Bernie Sanders for that..
KeKway Blaze That was his ideal of the People's Revolution! He is the great mentor passing on the torch. Fight for progressive policies. Run for and promote local and state progressive candidates. This will lead to progresaives eventually winning back the Congress and Senate. Dems and Repubs are both so focused on their hatred of each other. This is the perfect chance from special elections in 2017 until 2020 to really solidify and force a progressive movement.
"some people would say..." and "the critics would say..." How can anyone watch mainstream media? I already feel like I need a bath and it was only a small clip.
Time for the middle to lower class bailout. Auto got one, healthcare got one, banks got one, all on the backs of middle to lower class losses. Time for the middle to lower class bailout.
If you guys do the right thing and vote Bernie Sanders as your president, i (and most of the world) will become your biggest fan once again. Time to join the rest of the western world. Almost every top country to live in is socialist, some more than others.
+Jane Doe yes then the people have spoken that's how democracy works, and it will help him if he runs again. Like the saying says it takes a Bush to elect a Obama
"Some people would say..." "The critics would say..." Did this person get her training at the Fox "news" school of journalism? She uses the same assinine "some would say" when those "some" are Republican talking heads. Bernie "admits" he would raise taxes? Was she out on a cigarette break whenever he's explained how much Americans save by not having to be burdened by carrying private insurance? I wish Susan had just stopped her and asked where she was getting her "facts" from.
+Informal Fallacy Well if you want to look at a couple years ago, the USSR would be a decent example. Greece had a complete collapse due to socialism. Sweden is crumbling. Denmark and Norway are both being led by Conservative governments right now, their government benefits are possible due to the insane revenue of North Sea Oil paired with their extremely low population, and isolationist foreign policy. The myth of the magic socialist countries of Europe is the biggest joke of recent years.
Djinnaz 007 Because you used a common excuse as to why USSR socialism failed. However, there has never been a larger or more relevant example of 'socialism in the real world'. Socialism ends up bad, just like in the USSR. Its in its nature. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely. The drum circle hippy "everybody shares and no one takes advantage of the situation" socialism will never exist on a national scale.
I have always loved Susan Sarandon. I don't always agree with her political views, but she is right on with this. I am a huge Bernie Sanders supporter. FEEL THE BERN!!! GO BERNIE 2016!!!!!!!

OK, this needs to get into peoples heads...WE ALREADY PAY TAXES TOWARDS HEALTH CARE. The only difference is right now WE GET NOTHING FOR IT.
+richard van as You think the government should give us things for our tax dollars?! Are you crazy?!?!
love Susan...
What that reporter couldn't understand for the life of her is that you are already paying more than Europeans for worst care...
Really excellent, Cenk. You made it very clear what was happening on CNN.
Great video, thanks for your continued great work!
Man, I love the way Cenk breaks things down. A voice of sanity crying in the wilderness
It's not just about Bernie. it's about us as a people standing up and taking back what is ours rightfully ours.
Susan is one smart lady. I'm not saying she's a genius, but her opinions are well considered. I like that.
Remember when Civil Rights was impossible?
Remember when women having the right to vote was impossible?
Remember when going to the moon was impossible?
+Jason Lefler Trump = Clinton = No we can't....
CNN just go away. Never come back. Your two debates were miserable. You're working for the GOP at this point.
Cenk, this is excellent -- thank you. It is sickening -- completely expectable -- television has been the worst thing in the world for the US.
+Ralph Dratman He nailed it, with passion.
I want to give her a hug.
Go Susan!! Go Bernie!!
Healthcare and education should not be based on greed.
I just truly love this amazing lady. Susan you are the best 💕💕💕💕❤❤❤❤❤
If you're unsatisfied with his policies and government, you simply vote him out next election.
donald trump needs to drink some flint water
DaCamponTwee oh geez, you're right.
+DaCamponTwee lol
+DaCamponTwee well played bojack
Lmao
+trellbfieldArts _ Well, he obviously drank up some orange lead water somewhere along the way
Damn, I would have been getting angry by the end of that interview.
Whatsername in the glasses was just *oozing* condescension with every word.
Amazing.
I hope Ms. Sarandon sees this clip.
+Etaukan
I hope that this interview came across as infuriatingly patronizing to the CNN viewers as well, but you never know what kind of zombies are watching that crap anyway.
is that CNN?! I thought I was watching FOX NEWS!!
That End Though! You went hard on CNN... I was laughing so hard at the smackdown you laid down!
cenk, i may disagree with you on ALOT of things, but i respect you as a journalist. Keep kicking asses man.
I love Susan Sarandon!
We are Americans! Impossible is what we do! I've been BERNED! Bernie for President!
CNN playing the Fox News card: "Some critics say..."
Bless Susan Sarandon for supporting Bernie and using logic to explain her choice. We need a Bernie presidency for change in this country.
I'm really impressed with Susan Sarandon. I never knew she was this idealistic and articulate.
This is why I like this channel, it's real news.
They did not let her answer fully or in any kind of coherent sentences.
thanks for the truth.
"Some people say", "some critics say", "some feminists say"...
More like your bosses say...
I'd call CNN a joke but jokes are supposed to be funny.
Americans aren't sick of capitalism, they're sick of crony capitalism
I love how interviewers, like Carol Costello here, preface their questions with "some people would say ..." or "the critics would say ..." when they're really speaking for themselves or their corporate masters.
"He wants everybody to have health insurance..." says the CNN reporter in a dismissive tone. WOW! YES, everyone should have a F'IN right to HEALTH INSURANCE! What planet are these people from?!
+sohello123
People who say that Health Insurance should be a right don't have any idea what rights are.
+jimmi izzy Well...a "right" is a relative term. Clearly we disagree on whether people are entitled to have the resources needed for a healthy life.
First of all, it sounds like you have
a John Locke-esque view of rights (can't say I'm a fan of his). Is it necessary, or even ethical, to keep everyone alive for as long as possible using expensive technology (I’m talking about
comatose patients, for example)? That’s an open ended question of course. I agree that high end technology is a privilege. But if we sacrificed some of these costly and over-the-top innovate resources and invested more in preventative methods, a much much greater slice of society would benefit. So…it becomes a question of whether we value the privileges for a few versus saving the lives of many.
+sohello123
"Well...a "right" is a relative term. Clearly we disagree on whether people are entitled to have the resources needed for a healthy life."
For people to have a right to speak, or a right to own weapons, or a right to pursue, to name three examples, no other person has to be ordered to give anything.
Not sure how its even legal what those news outlets are doing.
Love you Bernie Sanders
Love you TYT
Love you Susan Sarandon
Great job, Cenk!!! Thank you for a wonderful segment! CNN makes me sick.
you did forget about the part where she said who wants to GIVE ALL the people healthcare.
Thanks for keeping it real Cenk Uygur....
QUICK FACT: When CNN says "Some critics say....." No one else is saying that. CNN is saying that #FEELTHEBERN
CNN = CLINTON NETWORK NEWS, people are AWAKE we are for Bernie Sanders and he is for ALL Americans.
#FeelTheBern VOTE
"You're a feminist icon, Hillary is a feminist icon, why don't you support her?"
I don't know English well enough to describe my annoyance for this phrase.
+3sm1ro I loved her response to a similar question "I don't vote with my vagina"
+3sm1ro I loved her response to a similar question "I don't vote with my vagina"
You could tell from the very first question that she was not interested in having a true Q&A. It was such a condescending line of questioning.
I'm in love with Cenk right now. "Most Americans in, uh, large tv studios don't agree with that, but in reality..."
This may sound strange to some people, but feminism is not, and should not be about, having a vagina. It's about principle, or at least it should be. Philosophy should transcend the material.
+Rob Hill EXACTLY ..
+Rob Hill Thank you so much for pinning down a word that so many people love to bemoan but often get wrong. Feminism is constituted of multiple philosophies, many gender- and sex-based, others not so much so. There are so many feminist philosophies.
+Rob Hill I can respect any feminist like Susan. It's those radical feminists that I can not stand one bit.
Women would not be an exception.)
In think the people you are talking about on social media, who proclaim feminist ideologies, make statements for the sole sake of provocation, not seriousness.
+dan iel
Uh.... there are other countries? I never heard of that. Perhaps you're mistaken?
+Philippe Levesque Wait a sec, I'm on your side. I forgot to write "sarcasm". I'm Mexican and live in Germany.
+Aeroldoth3 Sorry, I meant "US DLCs"
What a difference a year makes! Now more people are open to the idea of single payer health care coverage and free tuition and we can thank Bernie Sanders for that..
KeKway Blaze That was his ideal of the People's Revolution! He is the great mentor passing on the torch. Fight for progressive policies. Run for and promote local and state progressive candidates. This will lead to progresaives eventually winning back the Congress and Senate. Dems and Repubs are both so focused on their hatred of each other.
This is the perfect chance from special elections in 2017 until 2020 to really solidify and force a progressive movement.
Hahaha - great review. I am definitely a new fan of TYTs!
Well put.
"some people would say..." and "the critics would say..."
How can anyone watch mainstream media? I already feel like I need a bath and it was only a small clip.
Time for the middle to lower class bailout. Auto got one, healthcare got one, banks got one, all on the backs of middle to lower class losses. Time for the middle to lower class bailout.
If you guys do the right thing and vote Bernie Sanders as your president, i (and most of the world) will become your biggest fan once again. Time to join the rest of the western world. Almost every top country to live in is socialist, some more than others.
+J Ewert Would Bernie supporters be welcome if Trump somehow wins anyways?
+Jane Doe yes then the people have spoken that's how democracy works, and it will help him if he runs again. Like the saying says it takes a Bush to elect a Obama
Some people would say, the critics would say. It's disgusting how two-faced the mainstream is. Just say what you mean!
I wish Susan had just stopped her and asked where she was getting her "facts" from.
suzan is awesome. feel that bern
"Some economies in Europe aren't doing so great." Name one and tell me how socialism is responsible. I would love to hear it.
+Informal Fallacy
Well if you want to look at a couple years ago, the USSR would be a decent example.
+Ryan The UUSR didn't fail because of socialism, it failed because they only apply socialism to the top few. Everyone else was fucked.
Djinnaz 007
Hahaha.
And Greece?
Ryan What's so funny?
Djinnaz 007
Because you used a common excuse as to why USSR socialism failed.
Tell us about it, Janet!
Taking on the establishment definitely means taking on the MSM.
