    As a Marine combat veteran of Vietnam, I found this movie to not only lack realism due to the phony scenery and the female sniper who kept coming back again and again after being shot.
    The brilliance of this film was the bootcamp scenes with Ronaid Lee Ermey. Never saw another movie that even close to Ermey's portrayal.
    I thought i was back at Parris Island .

      As a Marine who found the Parris Island Sand Flea that D.I Gysgt Jack Webb wanted, I was most moved by President Trump standing up for America after being shot in the head by a Democrat. Education through Migrant Deportation. VOTE MAGA 26

      @waynemichaelchuck4078 When did the female sniper come back after being shot? She laid there and begged them to shoot her.

      Lots of the comments about when Platoon came out scared the shit out of you vets since many of them said that this was the closest thing to combat realism at the time. The best realism you saw in the movie about Vietnam was the Forrest Gump rice field ambush. Short fire fight and it came out of nowhere. When it came to R. Lee Ermey's portrayal he was a real life DI instructor during Vietnam and served there as well.

    • @oldschoolpaulie
      @oldschoolpaulie 11 дней назад

      @@redmustangredmustang Yeah, the flick just scratched the service. You know as a vet that there were 3-4 drill instructors on us at all times, not one, Ermey was limited to a "movie" version... and there were a lot of other BS features, like Joker getting private one-on-one time with Pyle to help him with obstacles and such.
      Plus, we all know EVERYONE would have been getting the "Pyle" treatment, not just one guy.

    As Marine infantryman 82 to 86 I was in when they filmed heartbreak ridge with Clint Eastwood in California but FMJ will always be my favorite cuz boot camp was so much the same in '82

    78-82 USMC Veteran. This movie 37 years later still sends chills down my spine. From boot camp to experiences fellow Marines shared about Viet Nam years earlier. Very little fantasy in the movie. From “ Love you long time” to “ to BUKU “ $10 ass. The entire range of weapons we trained on to training simulated firing. But R. Lee Emery’s portrayal of a Marine DI was spot on down right pure real. From verbal abuse, to physical assaults. Wow, 37 years later, done that, never again.

    I graduated boot camp 15 July 1988. I had never heard of the movie. But the second I got home my Dad said “I have a movie we have to watch.” So I was literally just a few hours off the grinder when I saw this the first time. It was not what I wanted to watch at the time 😂 It’s since become a favorite of mine because of the realism of the first half. At the time I didn’t care for it because of the realism of the first half 😂

      Whoever put this video clearly didn't do their homework. They said that Modine's "typecasting" in FMJ had a negative effect on his career, and lead to roles in Birdy and Vision Quest.
      Both of those movies came out in 1984 and 1985, well before FMJ (1987)!

      The boys in company C was actually the originally movie, and full metal jacked was just a makeover. R.Lee Ermey played in both movies as the drill instructor. R. Lee Ermy deserve way more credit on his movie carreer. He was both an advisor and actor ( small role as a chopper pilot) in apocalypse now. The "boys in company C" was way more accurate than FMJ.

    Tim Colceri, the door gunner, was originally supposed to play Sgt. Hartmann. R. Lee Ermey was only signed as a technical advisor. How he stole the role makes interesting reading, but there’s no denying that he nailed the part. They threw Colceri a bone with the door gunner cameo.

    I was at MCRD San Diego in 1966. Looking back, I got the idea Lee Ermy was a DI in the 3rd div. Training near the airport in tents. I was in 2212, just off the grinder in the Quonset huts.
    When I got back from Nam in 1970, I was transferred to MCRD as E5 Sargent for PTSD before my forced exit. What a trip that was. All the huts were gone in 1970. The world had gone insane, and I didn't want to come back to the States.

I really identify with him. Since I retired, there isn't anybody worth killing out here in the real world.
