Well in fairness to Volt Bikes here, I would say check with all e-bike manufacturers what the cost of a new battery will be for their e-bike range as these batteries only have a life of about 4 years or so and you will see most e-bikes firms charge a lot of money for there replacement batteries so I would always ask that question when looking at new e-bikes how long do they think the battery will last and when it does break down an not hold a charge what will a new one cost me? And there again, Volt did offer a 20% discount on their batteries to anyone who had one over 4 years old in the end. But this is a problem with e-bikes for sure and relates to all models and makes I have found Volt bikes to be well made and strong and very reliable. I am going to do an update on my old Volt Pulse bikes very soon as they still are going very well thanks for your comment. Kev.

However, I still not sure its the right way forward as all this Lithium used in these modern batteries has to be dug up out of the ground, and it does not seem that green to do all this to make batteries. I think we need more thought and should look at every alternative, even keeping more efficient petrol and diesel cars going longer. But that's only my view.

Yep, so many people have told me they have had a likewise experience with Volt Bikes! I think you got your wish. the standard batteries are now on the site at £330.The larger are £590. I'd be tempted to buy 2 standard unless you are doing the extra mileage.
I think you're absolutely right because I would like to buy British at the moment I have a small Chinese foldable bike and I have had three electric bikes altogether. Maybe it would be good for a company to make generic parts for these bikes and yes I had a problem with the old acid-based batteries costing a fortune and I went for a generic company but instead of getting 25 miles a charge, I had to make do with 17. It's great to have a company making these bikes in the UK but I think you are right and one of the issues we probably have right now is that they don't make the batteries here in this country?
Well said I so agree like I say I have raised this whole battery cost issue with the UK Gov Dept of Transport in line with there push to get more people out on e-bikes re these batteries and the replacement cost. And even Volt bike admitted to me there are lots of these bikes in sheds garages now just not being used because the first battery that the bike came with has broken down and won't hold a charge or get you far and the price of buying a new one is way too high its a crazy situation I feel. Great comment thanks. Kev.
You’ve got it in a nutshell. I reckon Volt are charging nearly £1000 per kw.h for a replacement battery for my Volt Pulse. At that rate the far more sophisticated battery fit a Nissan Leaf would be £30,000! Given the bulk price of 18650 cells, they could do far better. On my early Pulse (similar to yours) the lights have failed, are no longer made and they can’t supply a wiring diagram. The handle bar display needs upgrading to one which reads in mph, and with a reasonably accurate display of remaining battery charge. As you say, this is quality bike and Volt should really offer spare parts for 10 years, and retain the technical information and manuals on the models they have made. I would like to upgrade the controller, display and PAS. I shouldn’t have to rummage around on eBay and AliExpress to get compatible parts. Yes, they are good bikes, but, unless they get they get their act together over spare parts including batteries, I might as well go to Halfords for my next bike. By the way, I had to get the front mudguard and stays stays modified because one stay was threaded through the front brake mechanism! But they are good bikes which could last at least 10 years.
I very much agree with you and all you so rightly say and that goes for all these e-bike firms. It seems they are quick to sell us these bikes and take our money but the backup with parts and this crazy replacement battery price has just not been thought out I feel! I still think these firms in the price of the bike when new should be able to offer another free replacement battery after the first 4 years so you get 8 years of trouble-free battery life at the purchase price of the bike. It's a sad inditement that companys that sell ''green'' products only seem intrested in takeing as much money as possable off you.But this seems to be true .
They wont people to go green but there making people spend silly amounts of money.drop the prices, there would still b good money in these bikes if they dropped the price.for normal working people to buy them. make them a 1000 pound or less. Let's get on track and go green. look at the Netherlands, wot an example to us all come on were all in this together. Rant over. And this guy does great videos keep up the good work .
Yep, Very well said! The UK Gov promised us cheaper e-bikes last May with a large amount off up to 1/3 off in price was mooted that was going to be subsidised to get people out on cycles but where is this? Well like so many things all political parties say just a lot of talk sadly these days and little actions! You are so right e-bikes and replacement batteries are way too expensive. Well said! Thanks, Kev.
Good morning my son has needed a new battery for his golf trolley at a cost of 280 quid he said no way am i paying it then he found a company online that sells the battery only and not the plastic casing all he had to do was prise the plastic body open he found a vid on youtube showing how to do it all in all it cost 48 quid we played golf on saturday guess what its perfect i hope this helps atb David
Thanks that's very interesting, but these cycle batteries are made up of a large number of the smaller 18650 cells all linked together then made to fit in the bikes battery compartment, now it seems like so much in life there is nothing standard here and each bike manufacture has developed there own battery compartment and how this fits on to the bike and how it connects up. You can try to re cell your own bike battery if you fancy having a go! I don't to be honest, but there again these small 18650 type lithium cells can be quite dangerous and prone to catching fire if mishandled! Plus also, you need some way to join all these smaller cells up to make the 36 volts often firms use a battery welding machine and strips of thin metal to do this. I suppose you could solder, but that's a fiddle and could be dangerous, and naturally, then you have to try to fit this block of cells you have made up into your original bike battery container not easy! Some firms will re cell bike batties, but these also seem very expensive But very interesting re your son's golf cart sounds an excellent cheap fix for sure on that so well done to him I wish it was that easy with the bikes! Thanks for your interesting comment Kev.
There maybe is a plastic battery holder kit, that connects the tops of the batteries vruzend.com/product/vruzend_basic_kit/%20%20%20%20 ruclips.net/video/9Pxq4Au5iuc/видео.html%20%20%20No%20Spot%20Welder%20or%20Soldering%20Battery%20Building%20Kit%20from%20VRUZEND.com
That's so right Ron. This I feel has been going on it seems since these e-bikes became more popular. I really feel like the some of the battery car manufacturers do there should be a lease or a subsides replacement battery offered more so on the first battery. I have 3 old e-bikes in my shed that it's just not viable to buy a new battery for as it's well over a third or more of the price of a new bike! To me that's crazy. So you are right thanks for your kind comment. Kev.
Things haven't changed with the after sales service at Volt just felt I was being a pain when phoning them with a general question about my pulse Then e-mailed them regarding a new battery and when would they have stock available no replies My old Freego Hawk ebike which is now 8 years old and can still get parts for it even though they are no longer trading The whole situation regarding batteries is a joke wether it be for bikes or cars
Hi Thanks, I do think this is one area that lets Volt bikes down big time, and it seems they don't get any better at his re your comment, which is sad! My experience with their bikes has been great. I love the Volt Pulse I have had now for well over 7 years. It's been a joy to ride! But When it was brand new a couple of weeks after delivery, I got an Error Code come up on the display, so I contacted Volt ASAP by phone to say help. How do I fix this problem? I have to say I was made to feel like a Child rather than them just getting on and telling me how to fix this issue they did not first seem to believe me what I was telling them, so not a good start, then they tried to blame me for getting this. Error code up! In the end, I politely told them I was a trained electrical engineer and knew what I was talking about. It was only after this point that they said, "O right", we will send you a new controller unit to fit", Which they did, and that sorted the problem out, and I never had an issue again. But it struck me as odd why they were like this if you have a good product and want people to come back and buy again or recommend to others after-sales help and service and advice should be top class in my view! My family had a shop which, as a boy, I would often help in, and the key issue was the customer was always right, and that's how problems were dealt with. Now it's not only Volt but so companies seem to think they can talk down to you as if you know nothing or just do not offer any after-sales service to the products they sell. Which is such a shame, I feel. Sorry to hear your own problems! When I do buy a new e-bike I don't think it will be a Volt again they need to get this sorted and also keep a stock of batteries in for sure! What a hopeless situation Thanks Kev.
Yep, agree I have given up On Volt I found the Bikes good and mine has lasted me 10 years but I have now bought a new Yamaha Cross Cre E-bike I gave up on Volt their customer service and prices are like you say far to high and rubbish sadly. Thanks. Kev.
I think that is so true what you say sadly that is the way of the world now with many things. All these E-bikes firms do need better after-sales and they must reduce the cost of replacement batteries to make these bikes more viable. I feel thanks for your comment Kev.

If British companies are just out to rip you off then you might as well buy a Chinese bike. Ado A20F is half the price of these overpriced bikes and batteries for it are readily available at a decent price.
I have to say I starting to think that way myself and have been looking at these Ado e-bikes but does anyone know are these Ado legal in the UK for use on the roads? @@BramleyProductions The bike I mentioned is 500w but is restricted to 250w, so it is legal. You can unrestrict it very easily and back again. Excellent commentary. Volt do need to buck up their after-sales and parts service and the situation regarding e-bike batteries does require a bit of attention from government if they really want cycling encouraged.
OK so have now done 1600km on the bike.
I have used it a lot on a fairly flat 20km each way commute on cyclepaths, road and canal bank.
I have done a 100km Sportive (Tour de Manc) on it (4500 feet of climb - 40% of battery left at end) and have done several half day offf road tours up into the High Peak and along the Mersey down into Cheshir----I COPIED THIS KEVIN OFF RUclips THESE HAVE GOT TO BE BETTER THAN VOLT PULSE BIKES-

nice to hear from you... was wondering when you would post a new video.. any narrowboat vids coming soon? take care
Thanks, Dave its been a funny old year for me my mum died a few weeks ago. Not of this Covid19 thing just old age, she had dementia, so I had been caring for her for some time, so its been a funny old time. I do hope to try to get some enthusiasm for the boats again very soon in the early Autumn lovely to hear from you thanks. Likewise, stay safe Kev.
@@BramleyProductions im so sorry about your mums passing... my wife is a carer for dementia patients and its a cruel illness and she finds it tough having to watch what they go through on a daily basis.. my hat goes off to you for caring for someone with dementia, its very tough mentally... i really hope your enthusiasm comes back soon and you can enjoy your boats again... this covid thing has been difficult and my wife worked many more hours to cover missing staff but touch wood they havnt had a single case of covid in the building.. hopefully we might get some time soon to spend on our boat at gayton... take care
@@BramleyProductions Oh damn mate I know where I was last year in my mind when my mum died, no one else did though but after 14 months or so I suddenly was OK with it... Thinking of moving my boat off the Nene, can not say I am really a fan of having to go miles without being able to moor up. I think I have too much canal mentality in my system, I love the idea of spotting somewhere and thinking "this will do for the night... or 14 days"

It's a sad inditement that companys that sell ''green'' products only seem intrested in takeing as much money as possable off you.But this seems to be true .
Yep, that is spot on sadly you are so right! Thanks for your comment Kev.
There maybe is a plastic battery holder kit, that connects the tops of the batteries

Sounds like this is a problem with replacement batteries, once you have bought the bike they charge you what they feel like!
Kev.
Things haven't changed with the after sales service at Volt just felt I was being a pain when phoning them with a general question about my pulse
Then e-mailed them regarding a new battery and when would they have stock available no replies
My old Freego Hawk ebike which is now 8 years old and can still get parts for it even though they are no longer trading
The whole situation regarding batteries is a joke wether it be for bikes or cars
It’s Sept 2024 and Volt are still as crap at supply of replacement batteries. They never have any stock and they’re grossly overpriced when they do!!
Yep, agree I have given up On Volt I found the Bikes good and mine has lasted me 10 years but I have now bought a new Yamaha Cross Cre E-bike I gave up on Volt their customer service and prices are like you say far to high and rubbish sadly. Thanks. Kev.
the main concern is,,,,PROFIT,,,, nothing else matters,,,,,P,,,R,,,O,,,F,,,I,,,T. I have had 2 volts, good bike but far to expensive,
I think that is so true what you say sadly that is the way of the world now with many things. All these E-bikes firms do need better after-sales and they must reduce the cost of replacement batteries to make these bikes more viable. I feel thanks for your comment Kev.
Ridden two volt e bikes a pulse and an alpine both fell to bits
hello kev
hows youre day gone mine has been blighted by showers--when you go for a demo ride on the cube kathmandu electric bike--please email me-i am dying to know youre opinion, you will be very satisfied with the bikes performance.
Thanks Its been a lovely day here did 30 miles on the oldest Volt today sunny all day for the most part here but windy! Mind it has just started to rain now at 9pm again. Sure if I can find one of those bikes locally I would love to test ride it and will report back. I will keep you posted to see if I can find one to have a go on around here. Thanks, Kev.

600 quid battery? I’m out.
Yep crazy prices that these e-bike firms want to charge for replacement batteries! Quite agree. thanks Kev.
@@BramleyProductions quite OUTRAGEOUS.
I assume they are then I have read they do different motor sizes so some I assume are then not UK legal? I also have read that some UK traffic police forces are tightening up on e-bikes that are not UK/EU legal Thanks Kev.
@@BramleyProductions The bike I mentioned is 500w but is restricted to 250w, so it is legal. You can unrestrict it very easily and back again. I like that you have the option to ride it unrestricted if you feel like it. Hard for the police to know if it is unrestricted, so you should have no problems riding it in the UK.
@@dtz1000 Thanks for that, I really must have a closer look at these e-bikes they are indeed such good value thanks for your great comment on these. Kev.
