Theatre Organs, Smaller GRP boats Ebikes Vintage Radio and TV.
I have a lifelong passion for boats smallish GRP boats having been around boats since I was 5 years old. I have also been a lifelong fan of the cinema organ/theatre organ for a number of years in the past I was also involved with working on certain Ex Cinema organs. I also love the historical side. I also love the countryside and my home county of Northamptonshire England. And try and have a go at restoring vintage Radio and TV's and other interesting objects from the past. A keen e-bike cyclist for many years having had my first e-bike way back in 1999. I also have a vast collection of vintage recordings on all formats. I would love so to hear your views and comments. Thank You. Kevin.

Trevor Willetts BBC Broadcast From the Ritz Cinema Nuneaton .Not the best quality this tape by any means as lots of noise some blasting and some radio interference when this was recorded some 64 years ago. But another little bit of BBC Cineam organ broadcast history we will never hear again.

BBC Tape Norfolk Wurlitzer Organ? This was passed on to me with a lot of other old BBC reel-to-reel tapes. Now all the BBC labels say just "Norfolk Wurlitzer Organ!" I am sure it's either The Ex Paramount Newcastle 3/19 Wurlitzer when installed at the Kitchen Brothers garage at Diss Norfolk. Or, more than likely, the Ex Paramount Leeds 3/19 Wurlitzer at The Thursford Collection Norfolk. I'm sur...

Phil Finch Granada Tooting Wurlitzer BBC Radio 2 1968. One of the late Cinema Organ Broadcasts on BBC Radio 2. Here we have Phil Finch at the Tooting Wurlitzer complete with some film goers as an audience to add to his broadcast. Plus he was just cut off at the end giving no time to play his signature tune! A sign of the times on BBC Radio 2 in 1968. As very shortly all cinema organ broadcasts ...

Vic Hammett BBC Light Programme Organ Broadcast. To carry on with these three broadcasts from 1967. Here we have Vic Hammett again early on a Sunday morning broadcasting from the Granada Cinema Tooting London. Naturally, these recordings were done on a very basic 1960s mono reel-to-reel tape recorder straight from a radio of that period so not up to today's high-quality audio.

So happy to have discovered this on my birthday. I had been looking on I-Player.
Many thanks for your kind comment Kev.
Who would have fun playing this beautiful organ? I would!
How wonderful to hear that magnificent REGAL WurliTzer played in its original home by the maestro Joseph Seal. His style of playing and registrations was impeccable, giving the WurliTzer such a distinctive sound. May he Rest in Peace, Amen.
In the early 70's I bought an all brass Aladdin with a brass shade and a brass smoke bell for our sailboat. It was fixed to the dinette table so it wouldn't fall over while sailing. I haven't been able to find a depiction of that model anywhere, and I'm sure it was authentic because I bought it new. I've always regretted selling it with the sailboat...
Lovely job, what paint did you use for the green engine frame,?
Thanks, to be honest, I did not need to repaint the green part as it was in still good condition. I know it can be a problem matching this green colour I had looked at some green Hammertie type paints but in the end, the old green paint cleaned up so well I never painted it. Thanks for your kind comment. K.
Ok , thanks.a couple more questions, does your rivet gun fit down the chimney! I'm looking to repair a similar model that has a damaged chimney that will need re riveting. Also what black paint did you use. Many thanks , Tim.
@@timothynorris4288 Hi My rivet gun would no way fit down my chimney so not sure how you get over that one so sorry. Now the black paint was a high temp black gloss engine paint and it seems to stand the heat OK I have fired the engine up 3 times now and the black paint still looks very good. Hope that helps K.
By 1970 Winstone had reduced his band to an eight piece, so additional session men were brough in for these Radio 1/2 recordings, including Stan Roderick, Freddy Staff, Duncan Campbell, Harry Roche, Jimmy Wilson, Ted Barker, Henry Mackenzie & Geoff Alderson. Source: Crescendo magazine, December 1970.
bit of a sidenote, i'm pretty sure that type of tape was what gave Sony its start....i think akio morita went into it in his autobiography, him and the other sony cofounders started out in a bombed out building after the war cooking ferric oxide in one of their frying pans and put it onto strips of paper meant for those japanese sliding doors lol great book would 100% recommend
Isn't the test card C upside down?
Ernest always put so much emotion into his performance! There are some greats of the theatre organ, but some stand out in a different way. Ernest was one of these. He sadly ended his days at the Tower through ill health and suffered with diabetes losing both legs!
Hello, I have a question. What is the reason? When I turn on the device, the right wheel spins without me pressing play or fast forward. Best regards
Excellent demonstration I really enjoyed it and you explained everything so well Thank you very much it was excellent 😊
My father took me to see this organ I was 16yrs at the time and it had just been installed. The Brothers who were lovely people said that if I could play the small electronic organ at the side ( I think also a Wurlitzer make) they would start up the pipe organ and I could play it. I past the test and they let me play this most wonderful instrument. Wow!!!!!! one of my best memories ever. Sadly it went to another venue around 10yrs later but nobody seems to know where it is now, I would love to find out, hopefully being stored ready for its next journey.
Robin was a great ambassador for keeping the theatre organ alive! This sound track was from an LP. I can remember my dad having. Sadly Robin suffered from the demon drink but nevertheless was a really nice guy and a good organist and was a good friend of an organist pal of my dad's.
I had a Norman Conquest. Loved that boat. She looked happy and easy to get on and off.
What a lovely man. And Audrey a lovely person too - his wife!
Wonderful to hear the wonderful organ played amazingly. Nothing like the Compton sound. Gerald Shaw wrote a mass setting for S. Alban's church in Holborn. (The last Compton to be built.) He called it the Filsham Mass and I have an EP of it as well as having heard it performed.
Hi how many miles on a full tank on the freeman 22 with a 1100 petrol watermoto at 5 nots. On the theams just taking your time do you think you would get.?
Hi, thanks for the interesting comment. Well, this is a tricky one as there are so many variables here so let me quote from the Watermota Date Performance Figures For Starters. Sea Wolf Petrol Engine. 1098cc R.P.M. B.H.P. Approximate Fuel Consumption 1,000 7 3.5 pints an hour. 2,000 19 4 Pints an hour. 3,000 30 5 pints an hour. So putting that in today's context 1 litre is roughly =1.75 pints. To work this out in Litres. Now you have to take into account things like headwinds river currents, age of the engine, to even things like is there a lot of growth on the bottom of the boat, or whether are you doing a lot of stop-start boating which will use more fuel how many on board or the weight of the boat.Old boats like Freeman tend to have adsorbed quite a lot of water into the Hull over the years so boats get heavier than when they were new? Those old Stainless steel Freeman Petrol tanks used to hold around 15 gals I think so that would get you a fair way but like I said so dependant on all the above factors. Some Friends of mine moved their NarrowBeam Freeman 22 from Oundle Marina on the Nene to the Coventry Canal they were two adults and two boys they did this one-half term it was the one in May the whole week there was a fearsome headwind against them coming up the Nene and the engine drank fuel there is no Petrol sold now on the River Nene they had to have their father in law in tow in his car driving to petrol stations getting fuel for them as they used so much. One reason I changed my Freeman Narrowbeam 22 old worn-out Watermota Seawolf petrol engine to a brand new Diesel engine but be warned that is very expensive back in 2006 when I did this the engine alone cost £4,500. I fitted the new Westerbeke 30B engine myself but all in with other bits and bobs I spent £5000! Which I knew I would never recoup when I sold the boat and I may have spent on fitting this new engine alone what the whole boat was worth at that time! But that aside, it was the best thing I ever did the boat was so reliable the new engine only drank a teacup full of Derv which I could also buy on the river. But not a decision to take lightly. Best wishes Kev.
@BramleyProductions thank you so much for your reply. And the information as helpped alot, so really keep the revs down nice clean bottom when you can. Service reg and just me on the boat a lot qwiter ha. Lol would make a diffrence in fuel use. No i get it thanks so much for that kev and very good vidios.
@@markjordan9919 Yep that's about it really those Ford Watermota engines were dam good engines. I mean that later Seawolf 1100cc is just a marinized version of the Ford Escort Crossflow engine or in older Freeman's it was the Ford pre-Crossflow 105e Ford Anglia engine. They were a great company Watermota. I always used to go and have long chats with them at the London Earls Court boat shows back in the 1970s and early 80s They had so much knowledge! Shame that's all long gone along with Earls Court now as well. Happy days. Enjoy your Freeman super super boats I was privileged to meet John Freeman a couple of times another so knowledgeable chap who was always happy to talk boats. Thanks, Kev.
Bobby taught mo on my father Lowrey Heritage electric organ with full pedalboard.
Hello sir.thankyou kindly for sharing these beautiful tunes.i had the privilege of Bobby's tuition on electric organ for a few years.he was some character.always impeccably attired in his kils and Harris tweed jacket.he used to get me playing scales,up on the treble manual and down on the bass with matchboxes balanced end on on the back of my hands.he was a pure gentleman and taught me well.i currently play sea shanties and ballads on piano accordion, and still play a few of the old ones that he taught me and we arranged ourselves.-spanish eyes, loch Lomond, the blue Danube, etc, with full ornamentation.i remember him fondly and used to meet him when he played Tuesday night at the dome, with Douglas Reeves,in Brighton and had the wonderful experience of playing the house organ before their set,but was also called up on stage to play a few for the audience too.i was 7-9yrs old and that man gavr me confidence on stage,a magnificent gift.i hoppe you and yours are happy and well.with love and respect.dominic mogridge.sheeps head, west cork.republic of Ireland(Brighton born and raised.married an irish lady, and weve six polite, intelligent and respectful children, all playing keyboards.stay safe and lucky sir,and thanks again
Thanks for sharing this recording.
Absolutely fabulous!! Thanks Kevin
There were a few of these 3/8 Granada Wurlitzers around, and some of them last purchased in 1937 I believe? As I understand it, they were basically 2 full manuals, but with the 3rd manual as a coupler and giving the appearance of a larger instrument as Wurlitzer had moved away from two manuals at this stage ? I guess it didn't fit in with the mighty Wurlitzer image? Nevertheless, these are lovely little organs !
Thanks for this! I have several Readers Digest vinyl box sets featuring theater organ. i am just starting to listen to them Todays session was by Mr Foort, never heard of him before. I loved every piece. I came here to see his appearance so I could imagine how he would have looked playing. What a wonderful channel. I am not an organist but some of my friends whom I went to college are---Westminster Choir College 1970-75. In the 1980s I worked for Wurliztzer-Steinway in Philadelphia and gained a great appreciation for theater organ.I admire your work, I will be back to learn more to find out who I am listening to, and I will share your videos with my fellow alumni.
So helpful ,but how do I put in new wick ?
Very easy if you have the Aladdin 23 lamp just wind the old wick right up high and pull the wick winder out this clips in both sides of the wick on two small lugs! Do keep this you will need this for your new wick now just pull the old wick out! Now take your new wick carefully from the box and clip the wick winder on the two side lugs of the new wick take care not to damage or pull the two paper tabs off the bottom of the wick! Then line the wick up on the burner base so the wick winder lines up with the front wick raise the lower control turn knob! Then slide the two paper tabs down each side of the burner tube you can poke these down with something if needed and then pull the paper tabs out of the bottom wick slits on the burner base make sure the wick sits right and that wick winder will line up with the wick raise lower knob pulled more wick through the burner bottom try not to touch the top of the wick where the fame will be with you hands. Keep pulling each side of the wick from the bottom until you can get the wick winded low enough to engage when you have done this you can then turn the rest of the wick down with the wick winder knob. Keep looking inside the wick to see that the wick is sliding down the tube OK and that it's all clear sometimes the backing paper on the new wick can get ruckled up so watch out for this. That is it job done. Thanks for your most kind comment Kev.

Zaskakująco świetne brzmienie ! 😎
Wow,wow,wow...Kev. Absolutely fantastic. How you produce such a wonderful sound/balance from those tapes, from a skip, is quite remarkable. This really is a landmark and am sure Eric was very pleased. In the twilight of his life and career, with the Winstone Orchestra sounding quite fantastic, ( always he hired and used the very top musicians), this was surely a landmark broadcast with the legendary Jon Hendricks. Thank you so much for making it possible to enjoy, for us. All best wishes from West Hollywood.
My favourite organist and organ of all time...an object lesson in playing 'trems off'!! Well done Kevin.
A little delight! ;o)
Wonderful -- thanks for making this available.
I actually think this Wurlitzer was better than the one in the tower itself ? I know at the time, the two organs were identical at 3/13 ranks but i guess it must be the ballroom itself but this organ has always been a favourite of mine, and i find it unforgivable that it was sacrificed for the Worthing build!
Good lord thats what hes leading up to its "iconic". 3:50 ⭐BOOM⭐
I was just given one from a garden shed! It’s been stored for 10 years, and has got a small amount of woodworm, and it’s apparently been stored for more than 10 years. I’m not confident in getting it working, but making it at least look good is my main aim.
After seeing the inside of this, i’m getting really motivated. I’ve restored the cabinet. The person who gave me it also gave me a bag of valves. Fingers crossed some will be the right ones.
The 8 rank Wurlitzer was a good size for most venues having enough but not to much? Sadly this organ has now been messed with as so many are! What a shame this little Wurlitzer is not as was!
If you remove the protruding bracket housing the shaft of the flywheel, next to the pinch wheel, thus loosening it, you'll be able to fish out the old belt and mount the new one through the gap that appears, without having to remove the panel. I've just done it on my TC-399 and the mechanism looks similar to your 377 :)
So this was recorded 24 May 1960?
Yes, I believe so I have no proof of this but as you can hear this is an old recording made straight from a home radio onto a reel-to-reel tape recorder of all of that period. All I have to go on is on the tape box it does say 1960 and there was this broadcast made in May 1960. Hope that helps. Thanks, Kev.
Does anyone know of a source of reasonably priced mantels/parts?
Don't know why Google keeps taking down my posts trying to help others. Here it goes again: I buy my Aladdin parts from Imperial Lighting Company website if I can't find parts on Ebay. As far as mantels, I only purchase the NEW old stock mantles that were made in Brazil in the orange and blue box. The new mantles are terrible quality.

Yes, I would have been 22, half a lifetime ago and a Christian just 8 years!
Wonderfully clear .. better than the broadcast - depending on the atmospherics the 'Light' could get an almost FAB 208 hiss-fade-whine (Scandanavian Pirate/ Radio Moscow) vibe in the mornings. Thank you for all the hard work. ;o)
I went there with my parents and with an ex theatre organist friend of my dads Ronald Rodgers way back and heard Eric Lord, George Blackmore, and Arnold Loxam playing ( George Blackmore was a buddy of the Ron Rodgers who invited us) this was one of the biggest Wurlitzers playing in private hands at 3/19 it was also the similar to the Odeon Leeds model that belonged to another family friend in High Wycombe. Later, he sold this to Mr Cusion for his museum.
