Theatre Organs, Smaller GRP boats Ebikes Vintage Radio and TV.
I have a lifelong passion for boats smallish GRP boats having been around boats since I was 5 years old. I have also been a lifelong fan of the cinema organ/theatre organ for a number of years in the past I was also involved with working on certain Ex Cinema organs. I also love the historical side. I also love the countryside and my home county of Northamptonshire England. And try and have a go at restoring vintage Radio and TV's and other interesting objects from the past. A keen e-bike cyclist for many years having had my first e-bike way back in 1999. I also have a vast collection of vintage recordings on all formats. I would love so to hear your views and comments. Thank You. Kevin.

BBC Tape Norfolk Wurlitzer Organ?

BBC Tape Norfolk Wurlitzer Organ? This was passed on to me with a lot of other old BBC reel-to-reel tapes. Now all the BBC labels say just "Norfolk Wurlitzer Organ!" I am sure it's either The Ex Paramount Newcastle 3/19 Wurlitzer when installed at the Kitchen Brothers garage at Diss Norfolk. Or, more than likely, the Ex Paramount Leeds 3/19 Wurlitzer at The Thursford Collection Norfolk. I'm sur...

Good lord thats what hes leading up to its "iconic". 3:50 ⭐BOOM⭐
I was just given one from a garden shed! It’s been stored for 10 years, and has got a small amount of woodworm, and it’s apparently been stored for more than 10 years. I’m not confident in getting it working, but making it at least look good is my main aim.
The 8 rank Wurlitzer was a good size for most venues having enough but not to much? Sadly this organ has now been messed with as so many are! What a shame this little Wurlitzer is not as was!
If you remove the protruding bracket housing the shaft of the flywheel, next to the pinch wheel, thus loosening it, you'll be able to fish out the old belt and mount the new one through the gap that appears, without having to remove the panel. I've just done it on my TC-399 and the mechanism looks similar to your 377 :)
So this was recorded 24 May 1960?
Yes, I believe so I have no proof of this but as you can hear this is an old recording made straight from a home radio onto a reel-to-reel tape recorder of all of that period. All I have to go on is on the tape box it does say 1960 and there was this broadcast made in May 1960. Hope that helps. Thanks, Kev.
Does anyone know of a source of reasonably priced mantels/parts?
Don't know why Google keeps taking down my posts trying to help others. Here it goes again: I buy my Aladdin parts from Imperial Lighting Company website if I can't find parts on Ebay. As far as mantels, I only purchase the NEW old stock mantles that were made in Brazil in the orange and blue box. The new mantles are terrible quality.

Wonderfully clear .. better than the broadcast - depending on the atmospherics the 'Light' could get an almost FAB 208 hiss-fade-whine (Scandanavian Pirate/ Radio Moscow) vibe in the mornings. Thank you for all the hard work. ;o)
I went there with my parents and with an ex theatre organist friend of my dads Ronald Rodgers way back and heard Eric Lord, George Blackmore, and Arnold Loxam playing ( George Blackmore was a buddy of the Ron Rodgers who invited us) this was one of the biggest Wurlitzers playing in private hands at 3/19 it was also the similar to the Odeon Leeds model that belonged to another family friend in High Wycombe. Later, he sold this to Mr Cusion for his museum.

Very interesting broadcast. Hammond organ with PR40 type straight speaker, so just vibrato and no Leslie speaker, plus a celesta type instrument. Also features a drummer. Was this part of a set up he was using for a summer season, as he’d moved into show work as an impresario by then. Fascinating.
I was present at this recording which came about through a conversation at Leeds Odeon during a recording of Arnold Loxam with producer John Wilcox
Hey mate how do you like the bike now after 1 month? Just ordered one myself. Take care.
Thanks, Yes I have been very pleased with this Yamaha Cross Core e-bike for the money I paid. And like I did say in the video in my view it did lack mudguards and a rear rack which I have fitted myself. I also thought the tyes were very cheap looking so I have now fitted some far superior tyes and tubs the bike goes very well and thus far I have been delighted with the bike we will see how it goes thus far nothing has dropped off or broken and the battery range seems very good for my needs as well. So all round I'm very pleased with the bike to date. Thanks and I do hope you get on OK with yours. All the best Kev.
@@BramleyProductions thank you sir.
Excuse me, how to disassemble volume knob and turning knob? Thanks
Hello, on this set of mine, those knobs are both removed via a tiny grub screw that needs to be loosened with a small flathead screwdriver hence they will slide off the shaft both knobs have a set screw the small inner knob and the bigger outer knob both have a set screw you can see the little cutout on the knobs where the screws are below and that will need to be loosened for them to come off. Kev.
Hi just watched your video and brought back it so many memories, my dad bought a Norman 18 which 6 off us did 2 weeks down the seven and up the river Avon had such a great time came straight back and bought the 23. Both boats from Ladyline at Lynn on the bridge water canal. Where we were based at the time. During this time at a boat launch met mr Perry ladylines owner and for a short time dated his daughter Geraldine. Then at the London boat show Normans launched the 27, which my dad tried to purchase, they said no so said we would get the Nautilas, this they then changed there mind and we owed boat 1. 12 months later got hold of a brand new 1600Bmc engine and leg an installed the inboard. This could get the boat onto the plain. Had the boat for 3 years before getting the 55ft custom built narrow boat. Still have lots of pictures of the boats. Sometimes wonder if it had rained the first year, would we have carried on. But boating’s in the blood. Loved seeing the advert.
A lot of steam escaping from the safety valve. I don’t recall mine doing that.
Yep spot on they should not do that there should be a small rubber washer around the safety valve! To stop this from happening this I had bought a new washer but typical of me! I broke it putting it on! Another new sorted this issue out Thanks Kev.
It’s Sept 2024 and Volt are still as crap at supply of replacement batteries. They never have any stock and they’re grossly overpriced when they do!!
Yep, agree I have given up On Volt I found the Bikes good and mine has lasted me 10 years but I have now bought a new Yamaha Cross Cre E-bike I gave up on Volt their customer service and prices are like you say far to high and rubbish sadly. Thanks. Kev.
This Ballroom had a very haunting acoustic sound and the Wurlitzer sounded great there! Ernest was a great player and was the perfect choice to succeed Reg as principle organist! He greatly helped Phil Kelsall, so it's been said! And he's been around a while at the Tower!
Yep, I think these BBC recordings were made in the closed season with the Tower Ballroom closed and empty. He was indeed a great player and was the right choice to follow the legendary Reginald Dixon for sure. I have some more BBC recordings of Ernest Broadbent to come. Thanks. Kev.
@BramleyProductions That would be great. I remember I had an LP once with Ernest Broadbent and it was with such an expression ate performance by him, the Tower Wurlitzer taking on an almost unique sound for him? The bells of St Mary's I've never heard played better ! I wish I could remember the LPs title!
I remember this organ when it was in the Antelope Hotel in Poole High Street. It was installed in a function/ball room and the regular concerts were always packed solid with holiday makers and locals. Before that it was in the Regent cinema at the end of Poole Hight street I think it's in Devon, somewhere, these days....
The skegs help it to track straight, and the pressure gauge is there for a reason😊, seems a bit under inflated. Just went for short trip in a 3 seater in big waves and was quite surprised, and it's not slow either. However despite being used 2-3 times, one of the chambers started leaking.
Well, these were always sold as a very budget inflatable Kayak! I have to say mine has done well its been used many times and still holds up well. No leaks as yet! So I have been very pleased with mine. Thansk Kev.
I must be honest! I've not heard of Phil Finch. But do know of the Granada Tooting and its Wurlitzer organ. This organ was second hand or used when purchased for the Granada installation. I believe it was rebuilt from a repossession in the US originally a 3/10 rank. Then, it was built as a 4/12 rank but enlarged again to what we know today as the 4/14 rank ! An organ that has had a disastrous life at the Granada Tooting with multiple floodings. That aside, it was a fine Wurlitzer and always sounded good.
I think from memory that Phil Finch opened the Compton organ in the West End Warner Cinema in London's Leicester Square in 1938 with its unique console and he stayed there for many years and broadcast this organ. This Compton was removed in 1964 and first went into a church in Canterbury before being removed again. One of the great old names of the Cinema organ days for sure. Thanks, Kev.
This Wurlitzer was originally built as 3/11 for a private residence in the USA as it's been said . But came as 12 ranks with roll player. A beautiful organ with a unique sound and highly regarded as one of the best sounding Wurlitzer organs out there?
Agree with that regarding this Wurlitzer Organ. Dear Les Rawle showed me the organ in great detail when in the church music museum in Brentford where I heard it played many times. Never heard it as yet in person in the new museum but looks amazing! Thanks, Kev.
@@BramleyProductions The organ sounds great .I believe they went to great lengths to achieve the sound that it made in the Regal with chamber layouts? I do like Chris Barber as he plays in the Joseph Seal style!
Brilliant. Keep 'em coming please! :)
Many thanks as always Kev.
Oh My God..... That Wurlitzer French Trumpet is to die for!!!
Helps being on the same trem as the Tibia. A unusual instrument that went through a number of changes in its life. A rather loud (for Wurlitzer) Tuba. The French Trumpet was an unusual Wurlitzer stop, but a number came over to the UK. More effective in building the ensemble than the brass trumpet, but I think you will understand that better than I! The copies of the original installation drawings are proudly posted up in the chamber so no one loses sight of how it is meant to be.
I come from Gulval, like Dudley. His sister, Gloria, taught me the piano for a while! What was Dudley's Signature Tune? I have heard him begin some broadcasts with the Helston "Furry Dance" was it that?
Hi Cameron yes it was the Floral Dance..pre 'As Prescribed ' days..after that it was Smiling Through!
@@williammoore4071 Thank you!
Lovely story thanks as William says below about his sig tune it seems even on his later 1960s BBC organ Broadcast from the ABC/ Royal Plymouth he was using the Floral Dance. Thanks, Kev.
Thanks so much (AGAIN!!!) Takes me back to when I decided I wanted to be a pipe organ builder..... Even at 11 years old, I had made my decision. I'm 66 yrs old now and doing just that!
Thanks for your super comment. Wow not many of us know what we want to do at that age, do we. Such a great story keep them pipes blowing! Thanks, Kev.
Wow, another lovely Winstone radio classic. The mystery singer, I think is Dick James. He sang with Winstone at the Butlins reunion at.the Albert Hall in 1954. He had a minor hit with Unchained Melody, but he was best known for the Ballard of Davy Crockett.
Oh, thanks for that Chris I thought it may well be Dick James but was not sure. Kev.
I am loving you are doing this Kev. Do you have anymore Winstone...maybe with Dick Haymes or Dickie Valentine. This is very nostalgic to me. Eric's final BBC broadcasts before he left us. Thanks again.
Glad. Not gluten 😂
No worries I knew what you were saying and meaning. I make so many typos myself! Thanks, Kev.

Does anyone know if there is a cheap reliable compatible replacement stop solenoid available?
I have now long sold that boat I liked the Vetus engine however going back when I looked at this part way back then the only parts that would fit were Vetus! And they were very expensive indeed! After I fixed mine it never stuck again and like I said I sold this boat so I doubt you would find anything else other than Vetus parts that would fit knowing their engines! But I may be wrong and things may have changed now that was all a number of years ago. Good luck all the best Kev.
@@BramleyProductionsthanks. I checked their price list. £134 but they’re out of stock. 😕 It’s for my friend’s boat, and I’m not sure it needs replaced. More testing to be done!
@@AQUA-Mannie Yep I got this one going again on my old boat I just found this on ebay it looks very much like the one on the Vetus site! see link to ebay one. Good luck Kev www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235587949317
Thanks so much! I’m going to do a bit digging on the compatibility front, but it looks the part! Thanks!
I was gobsmacked. you shown the interior of the dandy and I'm sure it was once our boat as no-one adds extra fittings exactly the same and I recognise the ply and dowel fittings I made for her. they made a lot of difference with extra work space and shelving. How I wish we had still got her. We named her 'Pega'.
Is the sound quality good on recorded cds? Will they be good on other players after format?
Well, it's not bad it has to be remembered this is a cheap unit. But I have done some very reasonable records to CD copies even 78rpm records that I feel are very acceptable indeed. Thanks, Kev.
@@BramleyProductionsthankyou
My battery is wedged in that channel and so difficult to get out, was looking to see if anyone else had the same problems. It's a Volt Kensington
They do get very stiff I have had to run a little WD 40 down the rails and prise the battery up sometimes. I did a great thing when I first had the bike the battery slid down the rails so fast it broke the plastic at the bottom of the Pulse! A poor design like on many e-bikes I have Now gone to a Yamaha CrossCore RC seems so much better than the Volt Pulse! All the best Kev.

Thanks so much for the video - can I please ask what paint did you use for the black firebox as I am struggling to get a high temp gloss or even satin black - thanks
Hi Yes, it was a high gloss black engine paint that said it could stand high temps VHT I think and it seems OK going memory it came from ebay. I used it all up on a rotavator renovation so I no longer have the spray can to refer to so sorry. Thanks for your kind comment Kev.
@@BramleyProductions - thanks!!
Great video - answered a lot of questions! I have lived in Surrey near Brooklands for years and was curious why my dad's old boat was built by Brooklands Aviation in Northampton. The boat was a Solent 16. I don't know a lot about it - I understand from bits off the net that it predated the Dolphin and sold via Guildford Marine. Of similar ply construction to the Dolphin its cabin was lower and hull flatter. Curious to know whether this was something that was developed into the Dolphin. That would be my guess. We had fun times on it - just a grainy photo remains!
Many thanks As I said so little is known about the full history of this firm. I do know they had several designers and built a number of trial boats as you say this could well have been an early forerunner to the hugely successful Dolphin range that seems to have started appearing in 1962 /63 in the boating press and was in full swing by say 1966. Fascinating I will keep researching back and see what else I can find out. I was hoping to find a few old employees local to me but now it's so long ago maybe there is no one left. Really lovely to read your super comment about your dad's Solent 16. Thanks. Kev.
Nostalgic🎉❤
I have to confess as a lifelong theatre organ lover since the early 70s. I've never come across Andrew Fenner! I dont even recognise him! Although i know of the MP Moller organ that travelled around in trucks ! I believe its in the civic convention centre, permanently! In California?
I agree with the comments, he was a 'Gentle-man' in every sense of the word. I got to know him quite well in the early 1970's when he was the Tower Organist. The words: 'Its nice to be important, but more important to be nice', always come to mind when I think of Ernest Broadbent. A lovely man. May he Rest in Peace, Amen.
Didn't hear back. Do you have any more BBC radio stuff, from the wonderful 1971 Eric Winstone tapes ?? Thanks.
Sorry I have been busy of late I do have a few more half shows as I think I explained a whole show was recorded on two tapes so I do have maybe 3 or 4 half-shows but sadly my old Sony TC 377 reel-to-reel is playing up and has developed a switch fault these have to be transferred to the computer in real-time and often need re joining in many places as the damp does the joins so that can be a real pain. And like I said the old Sony has to go on the bench for a total strip down which well that's the unknown how long all that will take now it is summer time these old tapes do shed lots of tape particles and I think it has become clogged up inside so needs a good cleaning But yes they will come on the channel in time for sure that I promise you but as to when that might be I could not say as yet. Thanks for your interest in these. All good wishes Kev.
TY so much. My goodness, this is a true labour of love. Rest assured I really appreciate your wonderful work and efforts. I am just listening to the last one, from April. Wondrous. Well ,I will be patient and see what Winstone delight you come up with next. I knew Eric throughout my young life, thru Butlins, and hearing these, final broadcasts ,puts the shivers, in the nicest possible way, thru me, with wonderful memories. He was a wonderful man, who loved kids, with endless patience. Fingers crossed, and rest assured, your efforts will be appreciated by yours truly.
I keep listening to these broadcasts...how to play 'trems off'....with a vengeance.... brilliant!
I keep listening to the closing Hymn Duke Street...I have never heard another Organist 'twisting the harmonies ' like Dudley did. The Compton was in a league of its own!!
I've just put a deposit on a Freeman 22 mk2. Bit of a project boat. Surprised to see you got a shower to fit in the heads. Looked like a really tidy job as well. I managed to find one with a Perkins diesel engine. 7'6" beam so limited for canals but all being well I can make a nice boat out of her.
Good luck with your Freeman I take It yours has either a Perkins 4107 or even better if it has the 4108 engine. It always made me laugh how Freeman had to cut away part of the seat foam as those old Perkins engines sat up so high there was a white fibreglass kind of dome that used to fit up into the seat cushion! Great boat you will have some fun with that for sure. Good luck getting it back ship shape and you know you don't buy a Freeman you marry it! All best wishes Kev.
@@BramleyProductions It's the Perkins 4107. It has a morse control for forward/reverse. Took it out for a test on the Great Ouse yesterday. Amazing how well they handle.
@@MessengerRising The 4107 has wet cylinder liners which eventually corrode through. The 4108 has dry liners which don't. The 4108 is obviously 1 cubic inch larger than the 4107. Both suffer from cracked heads and broken crankshafts, but the 4108 is definitely the better of the two A Perkins 4108 on an F24 and ran well and never faulted. But back then was quite new still. Many years ago I saw a 4107 run away on a Freeman 26 it was caused by a small split in the fuel pump diaphragm, which slowly filled the sump with diesel. Lots of smoke! Fuel isolated at the tank. 2 mins later all was well and it stopped. New pump and all was well. Basic, noisy but fairly bulletproof. (Just watch out for the liners - but that is only a good DIY project!!) All so on the River Gt Ouse watch out for overheating that river used to cause a lot of scale in engines water courses did for many Honda Outboards my old friend here in Northampton Ken Yates repaired many that had suffered Gt Ouse water scale. That old engine will more than likely see me and you out and even the old F22 boat. Good luck with the boat and have some fun with her. All the best Kev.
@@BramleyProductions Thanks Kev, I've spoken to the broker today. We did see some oil in the bilge which one engineer's report suggests is from a leaking gearbox. We did a river test and saw no smoke from the exhaust but a second engineer said there's some oil on the river surface after the engine runs so we're waiting for a second opinion from the engineer who did the first inspection. Sale is subject to this oil leak being economical to repair and there's still wiggle room in the price. I'm hoping it's nothing too serious.
@@MessengerRising Oh, hope that goes OK trouble as I said in a video about the fact I had packed up boating! I do feel it has got so expensive so hope that can be sorted out without too much expense! I mean old engines /gearboxes and reduction boxes always lose a bit of oil. That Ford Sea Panther engine which is basically a Ford Petrol engine that was converted to Diesel by Exeter Uni first and then was sold by Watermota is a renowned engine for huge oil leaks in later life. Hope all goes well and you get the Freeman. Lovely River the Gt Ouse spent much time at both Buckden Marina And Hartford Marina and then Ely. Many years ago now. Thanks, Kev.
