just found you guys this morning. I'm all caught up and following along. looking forward to the build. we are strongly leaning towards a shed to house ourselves. cant wait to see what yall do.

$100 for the used power pole from Facebook marketplace and about $50 for the breaker and camper plug-in. Having the power company come out and hook it up didn’t cost anything!
You had to have a house building permit pass before you can get a temporary power pole? The only reason the county installed a new pole and transformer at no cost to you was because you were building a house and the county would recoup costs from future taxes? I'm in Florida and there is a pole 200' away from my lot, but I'm not looking to build yet, just need power to do some work on the lot, some irrigation, some fencing, etc.
We didn’t have to have a building permit to get the power pole approved. We told the county we need power for a well, irrigation, and tools. Also, we researched power companies in our area before buying land to find out what the cost of obtaining power would be. For our local power company, it is privately owned and does not work with the county. They don’t get any kickback from county taxes. It was at no cost to us to add a transformer and pole to our land because the power line already ran through the property. I would start by calling your power company to find out what’s available to you and then see what your county requires for a permitted power pole.
@@CountryRootsFarm Thanks for the info! - seems exactly like what I'm trying to do. I'm also outside city limits so managed by the county. I've been camping and doing some off grid activities. I did call the Power company (also private) a few days who told me they had to inform the county to do "an inspection" in about 3 business days. Not clear what they meant by that but they did say some kind of building/construction permit would be required to get power. Seems here they discourage power poles on vacant lots and anybody trying to power just an RV or Shed on vacant lot. One argument I want to make for needing the pole to charge an EV van I'm looking to buy next year, especially so so few charge stations out there. Knowing how things work in Florida, I bet my good intentions will be rewarded with some kind of violation fine.

well that is good....i have 19 horse power farm tracker and yes i move trees as well....dont care what other say make it work just for your need...stay cool friends
If it was new, it would have been about $22,000 before lumber went crazy. Since we bought it as a repo with things that needed to be fixed, we got it for $10,000!
In our area your build has to be complete for a permanent pole to be approved by the power company so this is a quick way for us to have power now and we will switch it once we can be approved by the county. Lots of red tape but cheaper than solar for the time being!
Maybe one day we will add solar! The investment in solar is much more up front so we couldn’t beat spending only $100 to get power and get things started! We do hope to add at least some solar in the future, it’s just not a financial priority yet.
We only spent $100 to get power. It wouldn’t be financially responsible of us, at this stage, to invest in solar. We do plan to add solar power in the future, especially for the well
