    If you tap LT,RT,RB, and LB at the same time it will show you the nits for each screen. They appear in the top right corner. Do this starting with the black checkerboard screen.

    Hi Vincent, always love your videos. For those who complaints that some videos were too long, can I suggest the following. Keep doing as is with full explanations. What you can do to make it easier for those who will blindly rely on what you say, you could at the beginning or within the intro text below the video, just state at 2:35 Blah setting, 10:34 Blah blah setting and 17:30 blah blah blah setting or 1:23:45 recommendation of blah. Then people can just jump ahead and you have satisfied all. My guess. But I don't know if that impacts your video algorithm negatively.

However, for me, I really do appreciate the amount of time that you put into your videos and I enjoy the level of detail that you go into. What I found out (testing with rocket league) . If you input your Max luminance above your displays capabilities (or hgig level). Dynamic tone mapping will actually show the highlights without much clipping but the tv will dim the rest of the scene making the highlights "appear" brighter in comparison. And switching back to hgig will then brighten the image back up also crushing the highlights.
    So setting a value above your displays peak brightness will result in darker overall images when using Dynamic tone mapping.

Why do you think he used cold war in this video ? It's because it actually uses the xbox HDR calibration info which is why he said this is a fix for cold war specifically and not just all HDR games. Very few games utilize this HDR calibration information yet, cold war is one of the only ones, you can tell if a game is using it by looking at its settings. Xbox HDR cal app and Hgig games are even more broken than on PS. It switches to 60Hz mode from 120Hz. Why? Calibrating with Hgig -result: Warzone, CW nearly no difference between DTM off vs HGIG. Maybe my C9 is broken. But with hgig on most games would look dark, with lesser nits, harder to see darker areas.

    • @ThatAccumulator
      @ThatAccumulator 4 года назад +2

      Same here with my C9. On the CW map Miami with HGiG on and calibrated, I have trouble seeing enemies across the map but when I switch to DTM I can see them much better. Valhalla also looks really dim and dull with HGiG but DTM makes it brighter and colors pop more (I know it’s not an HGiG game but Vincent said to use HGiG for it). It sucks because I want my HDR to be accurate. Maybe it’s because of the low screen brightness that the C9 and CX have.

    • @karl343

      @@ThatAccumulatorMiami is a night time map mate, it's meant to be dark. HGIG is fantastic on Cold War, using a C9 myself. Using DTM on that game won't be accurate, but it will give you a slight competitive advantage and it makes enemies easier to see.

      @@wackswax8423 yeah, it does. I have heard it's just a bug around this channel. BLOPS Cold War is great in 120, Modern Warfare has it too, just not as smooth. There was a noticeable improvement in K/D ratios, unless up against PC players or higher skilled. Hard to go back to 60 fps in a competitive fps now.

      Landon Wiebe so I have had no issues w my series x yet. Played my first WZ game in 4k120 (which really is closer to 4k/90) and I won lol! I have not done any crazy setting changes either on the lg cx. It works fine. Did notice when parachuting to ground the guys would kinda get that Stop motion look for a second like they weren’t just free falling but falling then catching for a moment if that makes sense. Haven’t tried Cold War yet since everyone was saying it bricked their console. Now starting to think a lot of idiots out there don’t know what they’re doing. Have you made major setting changes to your cx? If so do you find you’re annoyed in having to change settings for 4k120 then change back to 4k60 for the games that don’t support?

      @@wackswax8423 one issue I've tweeted XboxSupport about is my controller freezes up sometimes multiple times a day, only in dashboard. I have to pull battery and hard power down the Series X. Yeah what you are experiencing is the wide variation in frames, VRR helps but not as well for the big fluctuations. Cold War has crashed to dashboard twice after the update, with Ray Tracing on, which scared me. Keep it off now, no problems with 120hz enabled. Actually sometimes 120 hz is disabled with it enabled on console, the fix is too hold down controller button like you want to turn it off, then you back out and 120hz will be enabled in Cold War graphics menu. I got my LG CX settings from Rtings and Vincent for the most part. Follow Rtings instructions for SDR using the ISF Dark Room settings, follow Vincents instructions for HDR. I also turned the white balance to 0, 8, 7 to get rid of that slight pink tint in whites, I got that from NinjicianAV.

    • @interlake2043
      @interlake2043 4 года назад

      Use the ISFExpert Dark Room you find on Rtings settings on the standard Game Mode as well. Use Cinema Mode when watching HDR Content. I leave the HDR specific settings default, except for any weird motion smoothing or noise reduction. All modes SDR and HDR I use the 0,8,7 white balance settings. A professional calibrator can be hired at a later time to get more in depth, because every panel varies a bit when going deeper.

    Does anyone else’s HDR calibration app seem to reset after a reboot? If I load the app following a reboot the levels have reset, but not sure if it only happened because I reopened it, or whether it’s just not saving then correctly.

Like the annoying equipment instructions that say "move the slider to the left to increase the value and to the right to decrease the value" without any clue as to what the h@$$ changing the values do.

    Very useful as always Vincent. Any chance you could provide optimal settings within Destiny 2? I just got an HDR1000 monitor and set everything on the console as you did. D2 has its own in-game HDR settings that slightly confuse using verbiage such as "adjust until X image is barely visible", but when I do that the game feels so dark I can't see anything, so I'm thinking my interpretation of "barely" is not what they intend. Would be nice to have your expert opinion.

    @hdtvtest Could you do another video discussing HGIG and how other TV brands might be able to get a similar end result? If HGIG is simply an LG quick shortcut to disable the TV's tonemapping and ensure game mode is enabled - is that the case? If so, is this same end result possible for other brand TV's like Panasonic and Sony? For example, on my Panasonic FZ802 I use the accurate Professional 1 preset and I have game mode enabled. I have also recently changed the FZ802's HDMI HDR Setting from Dynamic to Static. Do you know if I am now getting the same benefits as LG's HGIG mode? Would love to hear your insight on how other TV's might be able to get similar results to HGIG. If not possible, would still appreciate knowing what TV settings you would recommend. Cheers.

    Never mind the people saying the videos are too long. I wish they were longer! Do you think the HDR values in the menu are the same on the Xbox One and PS4 as they are on the next gen consoles? I wouldn't mind a video where you slowly click through each measurement so that we have an idea of where to cap it for our peak brightness. For us that cannot disable tone mapping, do you think it would be best to cap maximum luminance at the TV's peak HDR brightness or to follow the instructions on screen? Thank you for all the info, Vincent!

    These videos are confusing me. 😟 What about if we don't have a. HGIG display and what about games that are not HGIG? How do we set these tools then? What about TVs where you cannot turn dynamic tone mapping off? And what about in game sliders, do we clip them too? 🙄

      @@ToxMod Not true. Some TVs have dynamic tone mapping and there is no industry standard for tone mapping so all manufacturers make their own versions. Dynamic tone mapping is unpredictable and can do funny stuff. Some TVs you can switch it off and some you can't. Some game modes destroy the image as well. There are all kinds of things.

    • @ToxMod

      OK so HGIG when Set to on is now letting your source device such as 4k player or game console, do the tone mapping for the TV instead of the other way around. so if you don’t have hgig Basically your TV is doing all the tone mapping. My tv doesn’t have HGIG either but it’s a Sony an Sony has some of the best tone mapping and motion processor in the market. Its why a lot of people are getting the Sony x900 For next GEN consoles
