Anybody else gonna miss Harwin. Dude was a badass and I don’t know if anyone noticed but it looks like the king survived the past 10 years because there is a new Grand Maester. I think the change did the king some good.
Good eye to detail! Pretty sure this was hinted at in the previous episode with the new maester “Orwyle” suggesting a different treatment while the Grand Maestor Mellos insists on the same treatment with leeches
Dude to me was easily one of the most likable characters, like you said a bad ass saved the princess when Cole lost his damn mind and kept her out of harms way.
@@mizzy5193 agreed that the old maester was going doing everything the old ways and refuse to try new thing and when Orwyle suggesting the new treatment king went sleep peaceful je probably was replace during the timeskip or the old maester died maybe
Are you a Cancer? I noticed a lot of my Leo and Cancer friends who were born in like July and August they're really great at names. I'm horrible at names I don't even remember big actors names and I don't want to. I want to feel like I'm in the show and I have just met these people. But a lot of girls I've dated they're just so good at remembering people's names and the actor's names. In other words it's a personality type thing not every personality type cares about that stuff too much to me it's just a name it has nothing to do with the person or the acting or the show. So I quickly forget I kind of like it that way
Yeah I wished harwin and lenora were fleshed out more. Also showing Daemons softer side would’ve been amazing to see there seemed to be a great chemistry with Daemon and Lenora with the little we got and he was devastated with her lost
Sad to see Lynol Strong aka the current Hand gone, he was legit the only good and honourable character in the series and council with actual best interest for the realm and not self serving like everyone else.
He hid from King obvious truth about his daughter's indiscretions and effect it could have on realm and house targeryan because his son was involved. He even says that he has looked the other way for the love of his son. Otto at least tried to report that to Viserys (though for self-serving reasons, but still correct)
I hope they will explore and explain what the hell happened in Strong family, because I did not notice any particular rivalry or hate between brothers and their father. It actually looked like they trying to play all sides at once, father as a hand by the king, elder son by princess and heir, and young one as confidant to the queen and her litter of heirs. They positioned themselves perfectly to win no matter who will sit on the Iron Throne. But suddenly out of the blue this guy decided to kill his entire family? I mean, GoT never shy away from juicy patricides of siblings slaughter, but it always properly set up and motivated. What's going on here?
Well think logically. It's clear that the father is a honorable man, a Ned Stark type, who values being proper and honest to the best of his ability (and protecting his family is his number one priority). Harvin Strong is a knight, who is considered the strongest man in Westeros. Meanwhile Larys is borderline a cripple, probably mocked and overlooked, probably by his entire family as well, and he is a second son who stands to inherit nothing. If he were to kill his own family, and have the queen as his ally and his accomplice, he stands to gain the biggest castle in Westeros, and a powerful ally he has under his thumb. He clearly is a psychopath as well.
@@7PlayingWithFire7 fair enough, but wouldn't it be fun to see this dynamic play out on screen? It was pretty obvious why Tyrion killed his father, but it was extremely entartaining to see how he got there, arguably much more entertaining then the killing itself.
@@7PlayingWithFire7 They're honorable men, yet they don't care about their son/brother? ok, nice logic bro. This show is full of characters doing stupid shit for no particular reason at all. Alicent also has no reason to even trust this guy at all , yet she does for stupid plot reasons.
@@tj3603 exactly, at least build it up a bit to understand why he does what he does... "because he has a hidden agenda" is just unoriginal, seeing as apparently that's the motive for most people in this show...
My favourite detail of the episode has to be Viserys’ Valyria model which just keeps getting bigger and bigger, as a direct parallel to his actual kingdom. As things continue to spiral out of control for Viserys, he retreats more and more into his fantasy world where he actually has control over what happens and how it pans out when he has virtually no ability to decide what happens in the real world. You can’t help but feel bad for the guy as he just wants everyone to get along and be happy, but much like his body, everything around him just keeps falling apart around him.
@@richrod0122 That's not why. The king's Grand Maester, who used leeches to treat his leprosy, passed away. The new Grand Maester, however, uses a different treatment that works better.
@Raymond Sims it’s not ab that she is still the same Rhaenyra. The first scene she shows she’s still defiant by walking herself with her child to the Queens chambers. It’s more ab the way the actor delivers her lines and her blank expressions.
When the time jumps are too frequent and big, it becomes like that friend you meet once every 5 years. Sure, you are friends and all... But you're not quite as close as before.
I actually liked Aegons' portrayal. It could have been easy to portrayed him as another Joffrey Lanister. But he''s basically just a teenager. A bit too horny maybe, but a normal teenage boy otherwise. Even getting along well enough with his nephews. It's gonna be tragic when he is turned into a tool of the Hightowers/Greens
In defence of the time jump, they needed a BIG time jump for us to buy into the new actors. A 2-3 year jump would not have been enough to explain the differences, they also need to give the audience enough time with them before the end of the season, so it needed to be this episode at the latest. Yes the accents are all over the place and it's a little jarring, but considering where this story is going, absolutely necessary to have different actors for the older versions of the characters.
I really liked Milly, that being said Rhaenyra as a character gets pretty dark/morally questionable, Milly looks and sounds too innocent, we really needed the switch, also the ending of the Dance would destroy me if Milly was still in the cast. 😭😭
I just wish there was an episode in between. For example, episode 5, daemion seemed to be a Psychotic narcissist. Then ep6, he's all of a sudden a family man who loves his wife
@@jasomon2115 he’s never been a psychotic narcissistic. He’s always cared about his family. Since the first episode that’s been evident. But Otto Hightower was forcing a rift between him and his brother
I really like the theory that Larys is a greenseer and warg like bran. He is handicapped like all the green seers are described to be and house strong has the blood of the first men. Weak bodies strong minds. He gave his assassins beetles to wear so he could warg into them. And the rats in the castle are probably him too.
@Raymond Sims we’ll see but they never established how he knew about rhaenyra getting the abortion tea. He also always seems connected to the weirdwood tree on the red keep.
@Raymond Sims nah it actually makes sense, I’m assuming you haven’t read any of the books. In the books all the stark children show signs of being wargs. Sansa,Jon,Bran, and Arya have all had “dreams” from their wolves perspectives. And if you don’t know the Stark family are direct descendants of the First Men. So Larys being a warg isn’t as absurd as you make it out to be
Criston Cole never said that those kids are the queens bastards though? He made sure to add the brother cousin part so it didn't insinuate anything while harwin got mad showing his guilt and assaulted somebody. In terms of ranks criston is above harwin so he can't just assault him
That's true. However, it is treason for anyone to insinuate that Princess Rhaenyra's children are bastards. Also, there were no consequences when Cole killed Joffrey at the White Wedding. He single-handedly ruined the wedding. Viserys (or Lionel) should have had him jailed for his actions.
@@darkangel15221 not only that but why did Laenor not seek revenge for Cole killing his lover? They both hang around the Red Keep often so how does that work? I notice many things that happen in this show have zero consequences
@@darkangel15221 did you forget that the queen talked to him after? If the queen says no jail, then no jail. Plus he’s a kings guard and the other guy is not. All Criston has to say is “he questioned my honor” and so they fought to the death and criston won. End of story.
@@darkangel15221 " it is treason for anyone to insinuate that Princess Rhaenyra's children are bastards" he didnt though? all he said is that he acts like a brother, cousin, and father. semantics wise he didnt insinuate that
@@darkangel15221 there werent consequences for cole for several reasons. First, he was a kingsguard. Second, he could have easily said he was protecting the princess, which in a way he was as joffrey was threatening him with exposing the secret that they had a fling if they didnt protect his secret. Third, the queen was firmly on his side at this point and very easily could have exempted him from consequences in the name of everyone’s safety.
Great series but so far there is one problem - Laena's death. The fact she was able to walk out without anyone stopping her, and the fact she hobbled all the way out there and Daeman couldn't catch up to her is a MAJOR oversight by the show. A lot of people think there is a scene missing and there was an edit error. The way she went out is fine - but how the heck did she get there in her condition, and with everyone around her?
it's better than the book version; in the book she only makes it to the stairs before Daemon comes for her and brings her back. She wanted to go out her own way. I do agree they should've at least had maybe Laena ASK Daemon to bring her ot Vhagar under the guise of wanting to see her dragon the last time then BAM Dracarys. But other than that it is better than the book.
For real, like I was just questioning how the hell did she get past everyone in her condition and managed to outspeed everyone and Daemon to get to Vhaegar. Big plot hole and bit stupid as well not going to lie.
I massively disagree with Alex, on that scene where Cole provokes and gets mauled. That scene was pure genius. That scene was doing 4 huge things. That scene was building conflict in a huge way, & Giving us a contrast to the ending of the previous episode where in the wedding fight where Cole mauled to death the lord of Kisses. Also it gives us information between who the actual of these brown hair kids where, and also its foreshadowing the future civil war.
Agreed. Absolutely love this scene, and I don't agree with Alex that Cole could be killed for what he said. He covered it up too well, it wasn't a serious accusation, though he knew what he was doing saying that to Harlon.
Visery's is a weak King because he's trying to be a compassionate King , unfortunately he's becoming corrupted to his compassion! You can't help but feel sorry for the sad old bastard! *(Amazing actor BTW)*
Compassion isn't what is weak. It's not understanding that others may not be compassionate and may be looking to take advantage of your compassion or honor. And in many cases it's obvious when someone doesn't deserve compassion, but the person gives them it anyway even if there are red flags all over. Compassion is good when the person who needs that compassion is good/compassionate themselves. It isn't when that person looks are your value as something they can manipulate for their own gain. It isn't weakness so much as ignorance in the expectations others share your values. It's important to learn when to pull punches, and when you simply can't pull them.
@@evo2542 Yeah I probably didn't word what I meant correctly. I didn't mean he's weak because of his compassion, he's viewed as a weak King because of the choices he continues to make and how he rules. It's his compassion for everything that ultimately in a way he ends up corrupted by that compassion, in a somewhat poetic kinda way.
@@xander_campbell5286 you don't seem to understand what would happen if Vicerys said that his grandchildren are illigitament. He even says to Allisent that the consequences would be dyer. Which shows that he does know but he has a brain and can see what happens, so chooses to be blind. His grandchildren will be executed along with Strong and his daughter. Which will damage his house's reputation and with Strong being the son of the hand of the king means the council's reputation will be hurt as well. And with Rhaenyara being his heir to rule the kingdom would ruin the Targareyn name and put their rule into question. Which could cause a civil war to break out to overthrow the king. Which would cause the Targareyns to butcher everyone. This " corrupt king " is trying to prevent a massacre and war.
@@Teabagsforlife Yeah I thought it was me, but it's not. You very clearly do not understand what you read! I'm not just talking about this episode, I mean his choices throughout from the beginning. And the "he's become corrupted by his own compassion" is something the actor actually said in an interview referring to the sad poetic demise of his character! (look it up won't be hard)
@@xander_campbell5286 this whole shindig is his fault and he let Otto plant the seeds that eventually led to the extinction of the dragons. ( up until daenyrs)
I think 13 episodes would of been perfect for this season. We would have gotten 2 more with the younger actresses and an extra one in the current timeline we are in.
Great idea, let’s spend more time leading up to the actual dance of dragons instead of showing the darn thing…That’s like saying the War of the Five Kings should have started during season 3 of GOT instead of the season 2, and that Ned’s death should have been the season 2 finale.
Larys's move was brilliant. Alicent never wanted Harwin dead because he was the best evidence to prove Rhaenyra's kids are bastards. The older the kids got, the more they would look like Harwin, and then more R's secret would have to be revealed - making her boys have a rough time inheriting the throne and causing scandal with House Valeryon. All of that only works in Alicent's favor for Aegon to take the throne as Viserys's first born male heir (also the strongest claim next to being named heir directly). However, Larys saw a way for him to get rid of his honorable father who allowed him to be constantly abused, get rid of his perfect brother who bullied him and committed crimes against the crown, and give himself control over House Strong - the whole time making the Queen herself arguably complicit and thereby gaining Crown protection. It was a bold move, Cotton. And now Larys, in Crusader Kings language, has a good strong hook on the Queen.
Nothing ever happens to Criston Cole, cause he got that plot armor. He ruined the royal wedding by killing Laenor's BF and punching Laenor the future King consort, and now he is insinuating the princess's kids are bastards, and not a damn thing happens to him(other then getting punched several times) 🤷♂🤷♂
Time jump was a little shaky, should have aged Sir Crispy and the new princess took some getting used to. I feel like we were just getting to know the original characters and I would have preferred this to have occurred between seasons so we had more time with them. There were also some things that obviously occurred during the time jump that could have been better explained and fleshed out, but maybe they will in later episodes. That said, this is a great show with excellent writing and I think even though there are some criticisms the show still managed to convincingly pull this time jump off and keep us engaged.
RIP to laena & Harwin !! Two characters that probably needed more screen time, but also understandable for why the show is on a fast pace. Seeing how they're going through 30 years of build-up in just one season. And seeing non bookers react on social media to the deaths of these two barely fleshed out characters has me really excited for the dance 💯😈
This was a hard one for me. The new ladies are really good so far, but I really liked the younger actresses, rhaenyra especially. It just feels jarring that she is gone, maybe forever, when she was the literal face of this new franchise up until this point.
I’ve heard they are thinking about bringing them back next season, but I think it’s a mistake. We need to just keep moving forward at this point and flush out the characters and milk the remaining of the story.
@@kylemallett1606 to be fair, it’s fine to flesh out the earlier years being that Fire & Blood is basically just a history book anyway. Plus we have an ending to the story their recreating anyway so as long as they main plot works toward the ending right, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the past. Like Criston Cole needs more of an explanation for on why he’s still so mad 10 years later. Like bro
I think they really need to change Rhaenyra's actress, because it is said in the books that she lost her beauty after the 3 kids, while Alicent remain pretty.
I think it's only gonna get better.. Aemond being bullied by his brothers, with the little girl kinda foreshadowing he will have to lose an eye for him to ride a dragon. Vhagar and Caraxes flying together on the same side possibly for the last time, also kinda foreshadowing the most epic Dragon battle yet to come. 🔥
Yea same here. Rhaenyra is cold and odd. Strong the father was the only loyal person and I liked Harwin too as a protector of Rhaenyra. Now they're gone and Rhae is unlikeable, it surely leaves Daemon as the only one.
The timejump was necesary period, I'm glad the showrunners are brave on this even if confuses people that haven't read the book which is the great majority. The series has to be 90% the book and 10% complementary filler
@@casual1118 it's pretty jarring, some characters look identical and haven't aged a day, Cole even has the same hair and facial hair, others like Rhaenyra are almost unrecognisably different besides the wigs. Couldn't even get Cole to grow a beard or something? Laena's character changed between 3 actresses in 3 episodes, and then she dies, not to mention her relationship with Daemon had no build up at all, same for Harwin and Rhaenyra. No time at all to even get attached to care about her death, and again, same goes for Harwin Strong who also dies by the end of the episode.
@Raymond Sims I would agree if they weren't already dead now, Harwin Strong could have been a cool character, we don't even know how his relationship with Rhaenyra happened, it's barely even hinted at in previous episodes, the dude gets like 3 lines, first episode he has anything to do and he's dead by the end.
My major criticism for the timeskip is the entire plotline of Daemon murdering his 1st wife was kinda forgotten. Wasn't he alluding to taking her inheritance in the previous episode? Now we just see him suddenly become a peaceful man sick of politicking. I may be wrong and they might go back to this but I just felt it was kinda weird that this wasn't addressed in any way this episode.
Ser Criston Cole is one salty Knight my god.“Ohhh boohoo she took my honor” my dude you were the one that made that decision. If you were such an “honorable” guy you would’ve rather died by the sword than give in to the temptation of sleeping with her. Guess he decided to go the easy route gossiping about her with the Queen and bullying Rhaenyras kids instead of taking some responsibility. I really dig his character tho. Excited to see where they go with his arc as I’ve never read the book so I was expecting him to be a sort of Jon Snow 2.0 but that didn’t last long lol
Cristons issue with Rhaenyra has very little to do with her not wanting to be with him, if you think he's just a heartbroken knight then you haven't been paying attention
What moments? The crabfeeder for example was just a single paragraph in the 900 page book the show is based on. The majority of the characters in these first few episodes are not at all relevant to the actual main plot. The time jump here actually introduces us to the true main characters, the children of Alicent and Rhaenyra
@@vidmasterK1 Why even bother wasting our time with the character's then? I am kinda torn, since characters like Harlon are clearly integral, him being the real father, but they did very little to grow us attached to him over the past episodes, so he doesn't feel like a character, but a plot device. This show, while I enjoy it, could definitely benefit from some trimming of other characters or events to make room for those that actually matter. That, or just slow everything down and make it longer to fit in everything, if everything show really was required (which it wasn't. A lot of the hunt from episode 3 could've been cut out and replaced)
I think they're killing off some characters too fast. I'm guessing they didn't intend for a season 2? I was just getting interested in Harwin then they kill him off. Lana just got the biggest dragon alive in the world and they kill her off.
They aimed from the start for 3 or 4 seasons. Maybe they weren't sure they ll manage to secure a renewal at the moment and they wanted to reach the beginning of the Civil War by end of season 1 so there is some bang into it. The reason for all these time jumps is to reach the start of the Dance.
Harwin is a very small character in the books his purpose is literally to be a baby maker, same goes of Lanea And no they definitely intend for a season two, cause this entire season is just the prologue.
Why would they not intend for a season two? That makes no sense, they haven't even reached the Dance of the Dragons yet and we're more than half way into the season.
Disagree. I think it was pretty bad. There is stuff that needs more context, a lot more. Need more character development of the kids and the main characters. The show made a huge point about "when a son is born, princess is a girl, blah blah blah" then waits to bring it up to the boys of the queen until the oldest is like 16 or w/e. Why wait that long and not just raise them to believe it? The strangest part was when the knight guy, when teaching the kids how to fight, came to the conclusion that the captain was the father. Like the dude knows it aint him and he knows the prince is gay. How the hell did it take him 3 kids and 10 years to figure that one out? They skipped way too much and did stuff now they should have been doing all along. Too many character shifts to fill the gaps and is now super rushed.
I was also really pissed off about them not recasting criston. We have rhaenyra looking 40, which she is supposed to, and criston over here looking EXACTLY like he did when they shared the night together. Like wtf
I will agree with you on that one. While the time skip is fine... That one was really jarring. Like they couldn't make him look a little older with makeup? Idk. I'll probably get over it, but I do feel like HBO missed an opportunity there to make him look older. Hell Daemon looked the same after 10 years.
The reason the hand of the king resigns is because after strongs out burst in the yard over the father comment he completely outted himself and his father felt like he could no longer give unbiased advice, advice for what’s best for the realm is impossible with the position his son was in. So I think him resigning is more than justified. He always gave the practical advice or unbiased advice, if you look at the other eps. He can also not disclose the secret to the king because it would mean his son would be killed instantly
Well the other lords would just undermine the hand anyway, as they would perceive him as being biased, even when he isn't. Also it's best for them to get out of there before it becomes public knowledge, or their whole family would be killed off
I think they could have fleshed out the Vhagar she-dragon stuff a little more. she FINALLY found happiness with Laena again after being lonely since Aegon's sister. This is why it was so sad and emotional when Vhagar did not want to kill Laena. She is a very old dragon and is going to be alone again. The show does not point this out as well as it should.
I agree with Alex, it's just weird how in a span of a few episodes Cole came from wanting to marry and love the princess, to all of a sudden be a psycho also who is loyal to Alicent.
@@anthonyplanzo1082 This is true, but when you don't think of it and just strictly from an episode by episode stand point it's odd. However you are not wrong.
He only wanted to marry her to save face, he wanted to run away with her because he felt dishonorable and wanted to clear his conscience from the sins and consequences of premarital sex, I don't think he ever "loved" her, he would've had no problem with her proposal to keep things the same if he did, he was just trying to save his own skin.
Raynera looks hideous. Looks like a 40+ year old school teacher. Completely killed the immersion for me. I went from liking the character to really disliking her
Incorrect Joe - Daemon refused the offered C-section. She did that because she wanted to go out as a dragon rider, not bleeding out in a bed or dying of sepsis.
Alex' points are always so on point, excuse the pun.....this is by far the best show on TV this year but it feels so rushed that so many characters that seem cool just end up dying in a few eps....Crabfeeder case and point
@@vidmasterK1 So, this is being faithful to the book? that's good to know. I think that being used to the longer arcs from GoT can make this story feel rushed
There's no training of Vhagar in the book. Martin wrote that the dragon was lost and suddenly it came to Lena. Like I said, the book is a spin off , there's no such details in it. If you want to see those, the screenwriters has to write an expensive cgi scene of Lena playng Fetch with Vhagar. If Martin cut it out, why adding it to the show? Which btw is going pretty great by far. I didn't expect to be this engaging , even that I know what happens later. I guess this happens when a people with actual brains does their magic. Almost every other show these days is just chaff. RoP is an absolute disaster, another one that Amazon can add to the pile.
Why do they selective age characters?! It’s so off putting that for instance Damon didn’t age a day. Are we sure Damon’s kids are his? They don’t have a drop of white in their skin 😂
In my opinion that at suggestion should have shown alicent that rhanerya doesn't have any intentions to do anything harmful to her son aegon to get him out of the way of being heir to the throne her father has brainwashed her into paranoia
Crazy disappointed about the actress change for Rhaenyra. She had a unique look and persona to her. The new one is basic as hell. Stupid decision instead of trying to age her with makeup.
In my opinion, Emma is way better as an actress than Milly, you perceive this way just because Milly played a younger character, while Emma is playing a way more dramatic and mature character. People always complain about everything anyways, the same way they did when Matt Smith was cast as Daemon.
Just want to point out that Emma D'Arcy is who originally got the part for Rhaenyra. There's a reason they almost look identical to the actress that played Aemma. I loved this episode and can't wait to see more! It feels good being excited to watch GoT again.
Agree with alex i liked the episode but overall this was a step back for me alot has happened and we as the audience are playing catch up the whole episode while still trying to soak in whats new and progressing, like we went from season 1 to 5 in a week, emotionally i felt nothing for some of the things that happened and i think i was suppose to care at least a little.
I thought the episode rushed too many things. Introducing Daemon’s new life with his wife and 2 children, establishing she wants to return home and killing her off all in a few scenes was way too rushed. The show isn’t giving anything time to breathe. Same with establishing and then killing off Harwin.
There will be more than 1-time jump, they were smart for doing that, this will give the public the final actors already in S2, and we will not need to wait another season to start the Dance.
I think the reason they didn't show laena getting her dragon is because she is at the end of the day, a very minor character in the story. And the same dragon gets tamed by another character in the show at a later date. So probs decided to just wait until that.
I agree with Alex. Everyone hates each other already in one episode. They fast forwarded straight to the explosion it looks like- everyone should be leaving that castle omg
Alex: "Hurrr timeskips bad ghfgkdkhig." Thank you for your input Alex. This season covers just 1 chapter in the Dance, with 7 more still to come in later seasons that cover the actual civil war, where there are basically no timeskips. This season was just the set up, but it was indeed necessary for the story as a whole. Alex is basically complaining that they aren't adding a bunch of fluff that wasn't even written in the books.
I think this is a good show, but my problem is how the scenes that are supposed to be impactful are given less than 60 seconds of screen time before it’s over and we move on. Like compare the amount of time between Larys killing those guys to how Tyrion killed his father. That was almost an entire episode of suspense and build and then the super gripping scene where he shoots his dad on the toilet. But in this show we get a 20 second scene in the prison to set it up, then a 30 second scene to watch them burn along with some buildings and then it’s over. Im worried this will continue to be an issue.
Not gonna lie I’m hating the time jumps. No doubt the new actors / actresses will mail it but just got use to the old ones. Not to mention how much is missed with these jumps.
I think this show is really good. Idk why they arent taking time with characters.. Like you are just suppose to know who this person is.. That person.. Who's mother this is.. Who the father is. Like i get it.. We are smart enough to figure it out with time.. But since we arent there yet to fall deep in love with not only certain characters but also their story ark. Im sure it will get better and be easier of course. But thats one knock i have on it rn. Its like they are trying to force feed us fast.. Rather than take its time and give us some foreplay. Its almost as if they dont expect many of us to take their time with the show. As if it wont go more than 2 seasons.. Idk maybe im over analyzing and just need to wait.. But this is just my opinion rn. Plus its already hard with these kind of shows that introduce ppl left and right (with not so common names) to remember names right away. But so far for me as a whole at the moment* i am at a strong 7.8
"That was for the audience..." 8/10? Doesn't equate for me. The overall story beats could be good, but removing all the buildup means the payoff is hollow.
Idk what it is about these characters and their motivations but i just cant get behind it 100%…. I keep watching and waiting for something to happen that makes this show “MUST WATCH”…. but i dont see it. When Brandon Stark got pushed out that window in episode 1 of GOT, I was HOOKED….. Havent found that moment with this new show yet
Lol game of thrones was literally known as the show that would need multiple episodes or even seasons to get interesting, that's what all the fans would tell me when trying to get me to watch it
me too man! Why are people acting like this show is so amazing?? its slightly above mediocre if anything. its like if your girl is giving you a half ass bj but you tell her its the best you've ever had or seen well thats all we are getting from now on, no more effort or trying to do better just mediocre bj's :(
I didn't like the courtyard scene wth Sir Criston & Strong it just seemed so rushed to push the plot forward cause he clearly understood the assignment already having 2 kids wth Rahaenyra why lose his cool so quickly why feed into the trap lol like it felt jarring i excepted him to be different sense he's doing wht Criston couldn't so he'll have more cool and confidence abt it but nah he was just as emotionally triggered as Criston was.
I can't deal with the time jumps on HOD compared to GOT where we got to see the kids actually grow up over the last 8 years, but this every week it's been a damn decade.....smh. We don't see any character development .
Just like cersei.... so focused on power and her own paranoia that she misses the fact that her son is turning into a total psycho. Parallel the scene where alicient counsels aemon with the one whete cersei tells joffrey to fear and destroy his enemies
🔴So, Ser Criston Cole beats Ser Joffrey Lonmouth to death at Rhaenyra and Laenor's wedding feast and fucks all the wedding celebration and preparations for the King, the Princess and heir, and just *everybody* else, namingly ALL the noble houses of Westeros. And after THAT... nothing happens to him? really?? he keeps being Kings Guard as if nothing happened? he doesn't have to answer for his crime and the outrageous disrespect to the King, the Princess, her betrothed and ALL the noble houses present? he doesn't even have to say any motive? to at least justify WHY he killed that guest Ser to death? 🔴But to top it up, Ser Harwin Strong, being Commander of the City Watch, gets kicked out just for punching him in a sparring session? what kind of "Kings Guard" is this son of a steward, that being on duty can kill a guest Ser at a Royal wedding feast and fucks everything so bad it forces the King to make a shotgun wedding? and not only he doesn't get arrested for his crime or even kicked of his post, but a Commander of the City Watch from a noble house loses his title for touching his pretty face? What kind of stupid plot armor level 1000+ is this?
I really feel like this episode should have been the first episode of season 2. That or this could have been the last or second to last episode of this season. We should have seen how Cristin Cole got away with murder, how Laena got Vhagar to bond with her, more scenes showing Daemon and Laena growing closer, Cole and Rhae growing apart, and Alicent slowly becoming more paranoid about Rhaenyra’s intentions for her sons. I wish we had gotten more time to see how the relationships between the characters got to this point.
While I think those are interesting things to see. I don't think it's enough to fill multiple episodes. Every episode needs a hook and I just don't think there could be between the time of EP 5 and 6. I think it's quite clear the arc of the show is that of a generational power dynamic. And the time jumps were necessary to tell that story.
No way everything you just mentioned would be able to hold up 5 more 50 minute episodes wtf? Holy shit I'm glad none of you are the showrunners, this show would be dreadfully boring.
Honestly this show has LOST me the last two weeks. I hated the time jump because it feels like the writers decided they had nothing interesting to say so they had an easy cheap solution. This whole show so far has made a few questionable decisions that feel like exactly the same; easy cheap solutions to plots they don’t know how to navigate. A lot of unearned moments so far in this show.
It felt super rushed, last episode ended on a cliffhanger vibe. I was curious how cole will survive this and what implications this will have. How the fighting mode of Alicent is playing out. So they did what they did in season 6/7/8 jumping through time like it’s nothing.
Absolutely not. Season 6 7 8 didn't imply things happened they just took crazy sharp turns and people teleported, every decision was utter nonsense cause the showrunners were bored of the franchise and ashamed of the fantasy aspects HOTD meanwhile implies things, it has subtext, it says things about the characters without spelling them out to idiots (I guess the exception is with the pin, the whole pin thing is just ridiculous). Apparently they cut a scene where Laena bonds with Vhagar, which is pretty absurd and wouldve been awesome. But at least they hint at her getting that dragon when she talks to the King about him. It isn't that it didn't explain it; Its that they didnt prioritize showing a cool moment like that. If you think Arya, who has NO relation to the Night King, killing him despite 10 years of character building is anything like skipping a few moments that are clear to the audience that they have happened and have had time to happen, then dude you're delusional
What annoyed me with the time jump is kinda what you guys already touched on, but more specifically. When Daemons wife was dying during child birth. We barely know her as a character at all before this, we’re kinda only told About her having a “warrior” mentality. Instead of a build up of her character to be known as a warrior. So taking the “warriors death” felt really weird and rushed. Why would she risk the small chance that her baby be born , over them both dying. Not enough personality development to sell her death or even make it feel impactful. I haven’t cared about a single death so far.
@@d3l3tes00n but it doesn’t explain why she has a warrior spirit. Or the most badass dragon. Like no character development whatsoever. The “warrior death” part doesn’t have proper buildup. I understand the baby wasn’t gonna make it…. But we barely just met the Character and are supposed to just accept whatever they force feed us about their personality. Rather than building her up as a warrior.
@Raymond Sims I think daemon is the only character I’m intrigued by. But yes I haven’t cared about the ones who’ve they have killed off. I know it’s early but I was Atleast somewhat attached in GOT this early. So who knows .
I disagree with Alex, if this was the first episode it would make zero sense and getting flashbacks is so lazy I’m glad they gave us a decent timeline because if not we wouldn’t have know the reasoning for the rivalry between Alicent and Rheanyera
Alicent's issues all stem from her ambition to put her son on the throne. As well as Otto's whispers in her ear about their likely doom. How much more build up is needed with such a simple plot device? I think it's a bit weird to reduce a score over that, when it has already all been laid bare.
i understand how jarring these time jumps are. but then i remember how rings of power is dealing with adapting events over a long period of time and i feel way better about this..
They're rushing the timeline to the beginning of the war, I hope afterward they'll stop jumping to the big moments and try to develop the characters more, so the big moments get more impactful. Can you imagine what it would have been like if we had spent time with Harwin and Larys? Through a few episodes, developing the relationship with the kids, Rhaenyra, the father of both etc. I get it, they're trying to get to the timeline, I just hope when they get there they don't just keep jumping to the big kills or twists without development like they're doing.
Though I don’t know the story, haven’t read the book, it feels to me like they were speeding towards a point and that they were planning on slowing down at one point. This moment feels like the perfect time to slow down and let us live in the world.
I DON'T get it. Everyone is basing their idea of the show on hopes and expectations and we should know from watching so many TV shows from these networks in the past that it rarely delivers shall I say season 8 shall I say Disney TV shows. I don't get it because everyone builds this, House of dragon, up so much but it's all based on expectations and hopes. The show should be solid NOW. I agree I would love for things to just be great when the Civil War comes but it's hard for me to believe that it will all work out peachy king.
I gave you all a hard time on one of the past episodes for being negative and now I'm gonna do the exact opposite. I feel like you all got a ton of backlash from fans for not liking the show and because of that you are being very very forgiving of this episode.. I have loved the series up until this point but this episode was honestly really bad for me. The time jump just really pushed things too far forward and we as fans were left just being told to believe this unbelievable stuff happened for 10 years. Also there were a lot of key moments that felt like they were not earned because well they weren't. 1.) Nobody noticed that Sir Strong was hanging around the princess chambers over the last 10 years? He is the captain of the city watch, he has no business really being within the Red Keep let alone around her chambers. Where was her new personal Kings Guard who would be watching her door? I was at least expecting them to show him being snuck in and out but nope, dude just uses the front door to her room. If the time jump wasn't so drastic they could have developed that relationship and shown how they had to sneak around. 2.) Ummm hello the kids look nothing like the "father". The chances of both parents having white hair and the father being black yet all his kids come out looking like Timmy fucking Turner is literally 0%. No way did more people not question the kids legitimacy. Again something that should have been fleshed out. 3.) This whole plot that Rhaenyra would kill her nephews to ensure her rule. Where is that coming from? They have not built that up at all to give it any legitimacy. From what you see of her on screen there is no indication that she would actually go through with doing that. The only reason there would be any conflict is if the nephews pushed it. If they bent the knee it seems like she would be perfectly content with letting them live. 4.) The hatred that Criston and Alicent have for her has not been earned. Like my god it's been 10 years. Maybe a bunch has happened in those years but we have not been shown any of that. So for us it just seems like they are hella petty. 5.) Larys Strong killing his father and brother was so wtf out of nowhere and once again because of the jump was not earned at all. Tyrion killing Tywin was earned. They showed us how he had mistreated him for his entire life and eventually tried having him executed. But this was just like wtf, dude just killed his family out of nowhere and it had not been established really at all that he was crazy and willing to do that. Again could have been in the last 10 years. All in all I think you all touched on a lot of these same points yet for some reason just kind of glossed over them and gave them all passes.
I agree, they view this channel as a business and if there is too much of a backlash, they have to protect the business and pander. It's sad but pretty obvious in this case. The logical consistency in this show is breaking down in multiple areas and it really detracts from engagement as a viewer.
But Otto is also great ❤️

I hope they will explore and explain what the hell happened in Strong family, because I did not notice any particular rivalry or hate between brothers and their father. It actually looked like they trying to play all sides at once, father as a hand by the king, elder son by princess and heir, and young one as confidant to the queen and her litter of heirs. They positioned themselves perfectly to win no matter who will sit on the Iron Throne. But suddenly out of the blue this guy decided to kill his entire family? I mean, GoT never shy away from juicy patricides of siblings slaughter, but it always properly set up and motivated. What's going on here?
I’m hoping he is a faceless man. Would explain a lot.

And necessary because characters that were literal babies in episode 2 are going to be majorly important

The acting was great across the board so far!
Even though the show kinda sucks this is true. The acting is solid.

Like bro
I think the same, I liked the new queen but the new princess is not as good
I think they really need to change Rhaenyra's actress, because it is said in the books that she lost her beauty after the 3 kids, while Alicent remain pretty.
I don’t have anyone to root for anymore. Harwin is gone, Rhae doesn’t even seem like the same person, so I guess I’m stuck with Daemon 🤷🏻♂️😈🐉
I haven’t read the books and I’m not confused haha, maybe it’s because I’ve watched a lot of lore from the talking thrones RUclips channel
Ya it does a great job keeping you up with characters and how they change over the years, but still recognizable and not jarring character changes.
Definitely agree with Alex that it should be slowed down and show us some of the moments they are skipping over.
Harwin is a very small character in the books his purpose is literally to be a baby maker, same goes of Lanea
And no they definitely intend for a season two, cause this entire season is just the prologue.
I’d start getting use to the time jumps guys. There’s going to be like 10 more if they plan on covering the rest of Fire & Blood
I was also really pissed off about them not recasting criston. We have rhaenyra looking 40, which she is supposed to, and criston over here looking EXACTLY like he did when they shared the night together. Like wtf
That threw me and my wife off for a loop. This dude is a vampire wth.
I mean it’s only been 10 years and rhaenyra is supposed to be 15 or 16 I thought.
Rhaenyra is meant to be 30 in this episode so she looks accurate to me.
She was 19 in the episode that Daemon and her go into town, so she’s 29-30ish
Also it's best for them to get out of there before it becomes public knowledge, or their whole family would be killed off
Crispin holding a 10 year grudge. Get over it bro.
Taking his anger out on innocent children made me fully hate him though.
To me it shows he was never stable mentally. He snapped over something so stupid
This ain't rings of power, we don't need hold on a development and set up for a million years lol
10 years is not all of a sudden.
@@anthonyplanzo1082 This is true, but when you don't think of it and just strictly from an episode by episode stand point it's odd. However you are not wrong.
@@TheChrisPhoenix dont look at it from an episode standpoint
He only wanted to marry her to save face, he wanted to run away with her because he felt dishonorable and wanted to clear his conscience from the sins and consequences of premarital sex, I don't think he ever "loved" her, he would've had no problem with her proposal to keep things the same if he did, he was just trying to save his own skin.
@@anthonyplanzo1082 it is when you make a show about it and skip 10 years.. then it is weird
Raynera looks hideous. Looks like a 40+ year old school teacher. Completely killed the immersion for me. I went from liking the character to really disliking her
I love this show i really do, acting is great, style and clothing is 10/10. Only bad thing is the lack of fleshed out side characters.
Incorrect Joe - Daemon refused the offered C-section. She did that because she wanted to go out as a dragon rider, not bleeding out in a bed or dying of sepsis.
Alex' points are always so on point, excuse the pun.....this is by far the best show on TV this year but it feels so rushed that so many characters that seem cool just end up dying in a few eps....Crabfeeder case and point
this show is about the Civil War not dragging it it out like got did with the white walkers
Rushed? You should know that the Crabfeeder and his war against Westeros and the Crown was a mere paragraph in an 800 page book.
@@vidmasterK1 So, this is being faithful to the book? that's good to know. I think that being used to the longer arcs from GoT can make this story feel rushed
@@Hyde_Lawrence This season has only covered one chapter from the books so far the real story is the dance which spans 7 chapters
@@Hyde_Lawrence they just introduced the true main characters of the book in this episode. Hint hint, it's the kids.
Toddlers on Dragons sounds like an after school special about drugs 😂
Why do they selective age characters?! It’s so off putting that for instance Damon didn’t age a day. Are we sure Damon’s kids are his? They don’t have a drop of white in their skin 😂
OMG DIVERSITY BRUH WE NEED DIVERSITY REEEE
The kids are literally the same complexion as Obama. You clear know nothing about basic genetics. Black is a dominant trait.
Yo when the king told Alicent that marrying her kid to Rhaenyera's would make their family "stronger" I thought she was going to have an aneurism.
😂
In my opinion that at suggestion should have shown alicent that rhanerya doesn't have any intentions to do anything harmful to her son aegon to get him out of the way of being heir to the throne her father has brainwashed her into paranoia
@@nyajohnson9613 Not really. That marriage only really helps Rhaenyra, by solidfying her and her bastards claim on the Iron Throne.
I kind of agree with one opinion I've read: None of the contenders for the Iron Throne seem worthy of it.
But I love it anyway!
Crazy disappointed about the actress change for Rhaenyra. She had a unique look and persona to her. The new one is basic as hell. Stupid decision instead of trying to age her with makeup.
Then they’d have to fire Emma as they casted her first.
Milly was cast because she looks like a young Emma, not the other way around.
@@Longshanks1690 Firing her wouldve been fine, its what happens when better casting is found.
@@Longshanks1690 so be it then.
Same with establishing and then killing off Harwin.
what I was surprised that even after big time jump audiences still follow the show.
Often times, they just abandon the show simply just because
I'm just trying to figure out how the wife in labor was able to run outside so fast before the uncle caught up to her
Bad writing that fanboys ignore.
They should have done the time jump starting season 2
There will be more than 1-time jump, they were smart for doing that, this will give the public the final actors already in S2, and we will not need to wait another season to start the Dance.
Great writing compared to some of the shows where the sea is always right and there is a tempest within someone?
3:52-4:16 *Ok had me dying Alex and AJ.* 😂
House of the Dragon slaps. This is my favorite GOT season
I think the reason they didn't show laena getting her dragon is because she is at the end of the day, a very minor character in the story. And the same dragon gets tamed by another character in the show at a later date. So probs decided to just wait until that.
Did you miss the trailer? Not just later in the show, the very next episode.
I agree with Alex. Everyone hates each other already in one episode. They fast forwarded straight to the explosion it looks like- everyone should be leaving that castle omg
Alex: "Hurrr timeskips bad ghfgkdkhig."
Thank you for your input Alex.
This felt like it should have been a season premiere. It felt like a reset a tiny bit.
She saw seashells at the seashore 😂 1:50
Love the show but the constant bastard driven plot you find in all of Game of Thrones gets a little tiring
Alicent has the same power that Cersei did if the king dies essentially, the Queen Regent with an heir apparent wrapped around her finger.
HotD has turned out to be really solid. It's not as impressive as GoT S1 was, but it's WAY better than it could have been based on GoT 7/8.
Agree with Alex, they moved a little too fast in this episode, they could have divided this into 2 episodes.
Ser Criston Cole in this episode be like: "I must be loyle to my Queen." 🤣😂
cheers if you get the reference...
SHE’S MUH QUEEN
Lol game of thrones was literally known as the show that would need multiple episodes or even seasons to get interesting, that's what all the fans would tell me when trying to get me to watch it
me too man! Why are people acting like this show is so amazing?? its slightly above mediocre if anything. its like if your girl is giving you a half ass bj but you tell her its the best you've ever had or seen well thats all we are getting from now on, no more effort or trying to do better just mediocre bj's :(
Eh I wasn't crazy about it the time jump was too much and Criston Cole looked exactly the same while everyone else aged that's dumb...
You don’t really change much physically from early 20s to early 30s.
WTF was Alicent doing for ten year? She didn’t think to have that conversation with her Son before he turned into a super creepy pervert?
Just like cersei.... so focused on power and her own paranoia that she misses the fact that her son is turning into a total psycho. Parallel the scene where alicient counsels aemon with the one whete cersei tells joffrey to fear and destroy his enemies
You never had a teenager son, did you?
Exactly
None of those things could carry an episode..
That’s one episode
No way everything you just mentioned would be able to hold up 5 more 50 minute episodes wtf? Holy shit I'm glad none of you are the showrunners, this show would be dreadfully boring.
I damn near fell over when talking about Daemon's wife's death, Joe actually said Daemon, not Damien which he keeps doing.
did not like this episode much
Honestly this show has LOST me the last two weeks.
Season 6 7 8 didn't imply things happened they just took crazy sharp turns and people teleported, every decision was utter nonsense cause the showrunners were bored of the franchise and ashamed of the fantasy aspects
HOTD meanwhile implies things, it has subtext, it says things about the characters without spelling them out to idiots (I guess the exception is with the pin, the whole pin thing is just ridiculous).
@AngryJoe his name is Daemon. You pronounce it as DAY-MON, there is no I after the M
What annoyed me with the time jump is kinda what you guys already touched on, but more specifically. When Daemons wife was dying during child birth. We barely know her as a character at all before this, we’re kinda only told
About her having a “warrior” mentality. Instead of a build up of her character to be known as a warrior. So taking the “warriors death” felt really weird and rushed. Why would she risk the small chance that her baby be born , over them both dying. Not enough personality development to sell her death or even make it feel impactful. I haven’t cared about a single death so far.
She knew they were either both dying or she was being ripped open... & didn't want it decided for her. Good for her.
@Raymond Sims Ned stark died in only the 9th episode of GOT and people cared. You can make characters likable that early…. It is possible…
@Raymond Sims it’s average imo but they definitely could make me care about characters. They just aren’t doing a good job of it.
This episode was pretty weak imo
This show is boring as hell. It’s just Keeping up with the Kardashians - in Westeros.
Alicent's issues all stem from her ambition to put her son on the throne. As well as Otto's whispers in her ear about their likely doom. How much more build up is needed with such a simple plot device? I think it's a bit weird to reduce a score over that, when it has already all been laid bare.
I feel Bad for Veserys (The King) let the poor man play his tabletop Game please :(
Is it really so hard to get Criston and Damons name right? We’re 6 episodes in.
“LARRY STRONG” pfhahaha
i understand how jarring these time jumps are. but then i remember how rings of power is dealing with adapting events over a long period of time and i feel way better about this..
Exactly they have to get to that point where the Dance of the Dragons 🐉 is set in motion
