  • I love to hate the Hazard Fraud. It saddens me to say, they got the Earthquake stubby impact right. This is the thinnest 1/2" stubby at 3.9", it's got plenty of jam and it's nicely built.. Early access / ave

Good tools don't need much advertisement, it's spread/recommended from word of mouth.... and in this instance directlt from the mouth of Uncle Bumblefuck himself.
      I just hope in anycase they keep the good work up and this is not just a onetime glory, if they do keep up with developement of high quality tools at great prices in a few short years they''ll have masked and erased their past misdeeds and become a go to brand.

    I will never be seen in harbor freight because I have standards...... but I do have a guy...... I meet him in the bar and slide $100 to him under a napkin.... he goes to harbor freight and gets me the impact.... then we meet in a dark alley for me to retrieve the goods.😜. Perhaps harbor freight should market that “all online orders will be delivered in discreet, unmarked packaging”.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado 6 лет назад +7

      Uh, they were the last time I did a big online order, just before I started my first tech job. I felt that filling in some gross wholes in my tool collection that way was smart. And it was, but I freaked out and contacted Harbor Freight about never sending it when finally my wife remembered putting a random, unmarked box somewhere. It has a bunch of tools which have never failed me. This included some cheap SAE wrenches because I figured there's always some random aftermarket bolt which was in millimeters when the car was first made, but got switched out. Turned out I was right. Go cheap on stuff you hardly use, but do actually need. I do review tools somtimes, but I mostly just use them. Come check it out. :)

    Actually Buna-N derives its name from the chemical process by which is is produced. 1,3 butadiene ( CH2=CHCH=CH2 ) gets polymerized with sodium (Na) as a catalyst, to form BuNa. Then Buna is copolymerized with acrylonitrile ( CH2=CH-CN ), meaning that that molecules of both compounds bond together to form a long chain. And there you have it, Buna-N. Now if buna is copolymerized with styrene ( CH2=CHPh ) at a ratio of 25% the product is called Buna-s and if the ratio is 50% it is called Buna-ss (not to be confused with Schutzstaffel). I hope this makes sense.

    I bought one of these after watching your video, because I was really sceptical about the claim of it hitting 700 "break away torque". It works pretty good thought. It was busting lug nuts on light duty pick em ups. I really only bought it to remove harmonic balancer bolts(especially on Subaru's in order to get the ole t-belt off) it saves about an hours time of having to take the radiator or buying the factory harmonic balancer holders. I really appreciate you doing the videos.

    I've said it before, I have an earthquake 1/2 impact not the new style mine is 8 years old, rain dirt shine, it will break loose diesel lug nuts at 113psi 3/8ths hose. It is used 21 days a month. Average out to, 4 tires a day. I'm not a tire guy either I move the trucks themselves, so it's also used for axle bolts, frame mount ubolts. It gets alot of use.

      My trigger finally died 2 years in. Matco's oil almost saved it from me not using the right tool oil when it was young. I think I damaged the rubber seals....in parts which you CAN'T take apart without a hatchet. The trigger assembly in his video shows you can take it apart. Where mine failed, I can't. :/ Bought a Matco and this video gives me even more regrets. Just over a year and my friend can't put lug nuts on with it anymore. He has a bunch of other air guns...tells me that when I only had one, I better not let it be a Matco stubby. Picked up the full-sized Earthquake XT which on RUclips was shown to be equal in power to Snap Ons. I didn't get past the packaging. It's been days, but I do labor a lot, lol.

Matco makes a low profile impact just like this, same trigger, same cover, same selector switch. Same power. Uncanny similarity.

    Freaking love videos like this! Thank you for making it and for being brutally honest about it!
    Street cred: 25+ years in industrial maintenance here, with around 10 years in commercial and institutional maintenance, and some commercial / industrial construction work up in there. 11 years ago I went solo as a "hired gun" maintenance, service, process, and engineering contractor. I do everything from control panels to hydraulics to mechanical, welding, structural, etc. Old school industrial maintenance because I'm a 4th generation industrial maintenance guy.
    I have some hella expensive tools, and I have some pretty cheap tools. Typically, the tools I use the most and rely on are the more expensive ones, the ones I use every once in a while, are the cheaper ones.
    I have a 24" Chinesium crescent wrench that I've had for well over 20 years. Bought it at a flea market for about $15, and it still works fine, but I have probably used it less than 50 times. Still, it's beefy enough to do the limited jobs I need it for.
    I also have a Milwaukee Deep Cut Porta-Band that I paid full retail for (over $400) because I had bought a couple Northern Hydraulics branded Chinese shit and they literally lasted less than a dozen cuts on 1-1/2 in angle iron.
    I'm not a tool snob by any means. I get the tools that work for me and don't GAF if someone sees some off brand name in my seriously overloaded Astrodamnvan Of Mass Destruction.
    Judge me for the brand of my tools all you want, as long as the $75 to $125/hr. check clears.
    If it works, I have no problem with it. I typically don't take a tool to it's design limits, so whether it will do EXACTLY what it says it will do is of little concern.
    Again, thanks for the vid. Really good stuff.

      tr0n Snap-On gross sales in 2016 = $3.46b with net profit of $546m. That is an INSANE margin of profit to sales after operating expenses and tax. Snap-On is absolutely bending us all over. Yep they’re tools are freaking awesome but they are making huge margins off hard working men. I don’t blame them one bit however, I own a business and do everything I can to charge the maximum the market will bear for a quality product. I’m just saying I hope more mid priced higher quality options hit the market to put Snap-On/MAC/etc more in reach of the average Joe’s financial means.

    • @MH-wo4be
      @MH-wo4be 6 лет назад +1

      Well snap-ons power tools (both air and electric) have proven to be underperformers for awhile now. Sitting back and cashing in a designs that are 10-20 years old. Snap-ons distribution network is very inefficent and adds a lot of cost also. The "tool truck" is running on limited time. One of the worst franchies you can become involved in. When you sign on with snap-on, mac, cornwell, matco you get a "area" or route. You work that route for 20 years and build up a huge following from hard work and reliability. When you want to retire all you have is a worn out truck. The company owns the route and pass it on to the next guy who will benefit from your hard work.
      At least with most franchises you have Something you can liquidate when it is time to retire.

    I use this stubby to remove air bags on semi trailers. I love it. I have another mechanic in the shop who let me use his Blue Point and I had to change guns to remove the 3/4 nut on the bottom of the bag. It wasn’t convenient to have to change guns to do that. I took a chance with the XT and it removes all of the nuts on the bag. So for 300 dollars less and more convenience I’m very pleased. I also cut cut 5/8 of an inch off of my impact socket and clearance is definitely no issue. Add a swivel and your in the clear. Just my opinion, hope it helps others.

    Bought one of these when they first came out for $89. Ran through whole clutch jobs with this gun on heavy duty trucks, never had any problems taking bolts out. If this thing doesn't break it out though, it's torch time. 700 ft lb rating is over kill but for the price and size it's really good. Haven't broken the switch or trigger yet. Switch can be annoying in the tight spots because if the switch isn't fully engaged in one direction it will bypass and let you know it's not full skookem.

    I work on cars for a living and bought one based on this review alone. I am not disappointed. It's compact, lightweight, and near as I can tell every bit as powerful as my full sized IR. May not be saying much but this thing has torque for days. Definitely not 700 ft/lbs but enough.

    This dude is an international treasure. I learn, I laugh, I drink a few beers and just kick back. Great stuff. Plus he reminds me of the dudes I grew up with in sconi.

    You and Aaron Kyro (Braille Skateboarding) should get together and swap package opening tips.

    I genuinely enjoy how you tear apart everything before you even use it. New subscriber and you have great content! Long live harbor freight.

    I've just realised a whole new depth of enjoyment to AVE vijeos, turn on closed captions and watch the algorithm try and keep up with him. It's "thick black time" boys!

    I've been using harbor freight air tools for about 5 years now. Their 1" drive guns are tough as nails. I've used the same one at least twice a week for the last 5 years and still going strong. Electric tools on the other hand, I can't say the same
