I think that one’s totaled…. Camping gone wrong.

  • I got a call from a lady who slid down an icy hill while pull her camp trailer behind her Chevy Suburban and jackknifed it into the gate. Unfortunately the front corner if the trailer did major damage to the Suburban, but luckily the trailer was unharmed. I headed up with the 4x4 wrecker to see what I could do, and luckily there were some good trees to work with, since the road was blocked and I couldn’t get to the other side. I was able to pull the trailer off the suburban, then the suburban off the gate, and then get everything straightened out to point down the hill. A sheriffs deputy and forest service officer both stopped by and stayed until everyone was out of there safe to make sure we didn’t need anymore assistance, and the forest service officer followed the lady back out of the woods to make sure she made it safe. Overall the job went good, but the Suburban is damaged enough that it is probably totaled, and I took a fall that broke some of my camera gear and left me with a sore back. But the important part is that everyone made it out safe, and no further damage was done to the vehicles.

I think we just saw the true essence of Casey. The customer was so scared and stressed by the situation and the possibility of angry law enforcement and land owner you could hear it in her voice. The next time we heard her speak while you were telling us the plan, she almost sounded like she was enjoying it. Incredible bad luck loosing it on the ice. Incredible to meet Casey and have him fix the situation. Casey really is the nicest person you could possibly meet.

The towing services out here are stupid expensive and many of us just cannot afford them. Keep up the good work and her excitement over not being charged is payment in my world. Having a camera man does have advantages but even though you didn't it was still a great video. Glad you was able to help them & do it for free. It made a bad situation not as bad.

Case, there a LOT of moving parts on this recovery, so many potential ways things can turn out. You’ve been working hard lately, I hope you’re able to catch your breath. Back in 1989 I got my HMMWV so stuck in a bog (not my fault, my driver failed to punch the fuel pedal when I told him to, it was his first time driving in rough terrain) they called in a Chinook to sling load my ass out but, the HMMWV was hydro-locked to the mud and it wouldn’t budge an inch. We tried everything known, finally it was a HMMWV with a winch on the front that nosed up to a tree and slowly pulled us out. The Army even has a small pocket sized manual for recovery techniques that shows how to set up block and tackle, set up a dead man’s anchor, etc. when I got back to the unit, all my buddies gave me one of those manuals with all their signatures in the cover, I cherish it today. I grew up in K-Falls so I know what you’re dealing with.
Thanks Case, you make us proud.

Chains on the logging trailer - never noticed that before - great idea. That's very slippery, Casey. Well done
