  • Aortic dissection is the dissection of the blood of the aorta between the intima and the media of the aorta due to a tear in the intima. There are two types, Type A and Type B.
    There are many complications such as Cardiac Tamponade, Myocardial infarction, rupture leading to hemmorhage, formation of double barrelled aorta in chronic cases etc.
    There are etiologies such as Hypertension in older males and Connective tissue disorders in young adults. Remember that medial scaring is protective against dissection such as in Syphilis.
    Pathogenesis includes “medial cystic degeneration”
    Diagnosis and treatment.
