Thank you for having the courage to share your faith and traditions! It is very inspiring and brings me hope! I recently converted to the Catholic Church and love the custom of wearing a vail. I’m the only catholic in my family and I don’t have many people to ask for advice about traditional catholic female customs. Finding your RUclips channel was certainly a blessing! Thank you 🙏🏼

You could’ve possibly try reaching out to convents and seeing if you could create some type of an ongoing interaction with a couple nuns, even if they are cloister you may be able to find some who would be willing to do email or perhaps some phone calls, occasional visits, or if there are any local convents in person visits maybe possible

I wish I would have years ago when I first wanted to but was discouraged after asking a friend and she said I had the wrong reasons (which was I wanted to be closer to God). Now I'm waiting on my veil I found on etsy to arrive. It's black and an infinity style which i feel will make me feel better with 4 children and it not being taken off and tossed on the floor. Thanks for your video! It popped up as a suggestion today.

I am glad you’re going ahead with it! I don’t get the concerns about “wrong reasons.” It’s an objectively good custom. No need to worry about it! That infinity style will probably work well with kids. Mine gets yanked off occasionally by my little one.

I started TLM and I immediately fell in love with wearing a veil because it's respect for Jesus.. unfortunately, I didn't have one to wear and I made a scarf into the best veil I could. A very great friend in my life now so kindly gave me a beautiful veil for Christmas. It was probably one of the best gifts I'd ever been given. Some folks will do anything to help another to feel like they belong and to commit themselves to being focused on the honoring of Jesus Christ at mass. Thanks Cec. Above and beyond kind!!! I wear the veil everytime I go to mass it's reverent to Jesus Christ. Mist women in TLN wear veils and most men where ties and dress shirts. Woman wear long skirts. Babies cry and communion is received on the tongue. It's a family affair not cut short by a ball game that starts at 1pm.. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria¡!!!!!!

You can make a veil out of any thing you would like, this type of veil is traditionally mostly some type of a lace or tulle material, but, you can literally use whatever you would like in terms of material and just have the edges hemmed or sewn in someway so that they don’t unravel

I’m growing deeper in my faith and since my consecration to Mary, I’m feeling this urge to wear a veil and wear modest clothing like dresses rather than jeans or pants to church. I’ve always been a tomboy so this is foreign. But I realize that wearing a veil is a deeper sign of respect and honoring God and a privilege. Thank you for your video!

It's beautiful to see a church filled with unified humility. It reminds me that vanity should be left at the door. It makes one anonymous. I stop looking around and go deep into my missal. Time to realize that the tabernacle is the ultimate beauty of truth.

I purchased my first veil recently. It is an off-white color for not being married. The reason for my decision to start wearing a veil to Mass is maidenly modesty in the house of God & for the symbolism of femininity. I don't feel obligated to wear one, nor was I encouraged to wear one growing up; it just feels right to me.

Haha THANK YOU for that comment about "doing it for the right reason"! I asked my husband how he would feel about me wearing a veil & THAT was his reply. I don't do things, especially with my faith, for ANY reason except to do what God is calling me to. And THIS is one of them. He has put it on my heart & I'm working up the courage...we are still attending the novus ordo.🤔 Without knowing that I was contemplating this, one of our sons brought home a flyer & booklet on it & gave it to me!🥰

I started wearing a veil as a catachumen. I started covering my head in church when I learned about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and as an outward sign of submission to God. I also find it a beautiful custom, and I enjoy pretty things! When I put it on I feel more prepared for church, perhaps a little bit like how a priest might feel when wearing vestments. I alternate between mantillas, scarves and hats depending on how I feel, the season, and what I am wearing. One of my favorites is a Ukrainian floral headscarf I wear in colder months. It reminds me of the central/eastern European part of my heritage, and those ancestors of mine were Catholic.

I love the tradition I am so happy to see you keeping it alive! a few women do wear them to the novus ordo mass, I wish I could get over it, but just can’t help feeling strange wearing a head covering except when I travel to attend Latin mass at a different Church.
I have a couple veils which belonged to my Grandmother, however she never wore them anymore by the time I came along in the late 1960’s. My Mom explained no one really wore them anymore until the Kennedy’s. Jackie Kennedy always wore one to mass, many Catholic women followed suit. They did, however, wear hats regularly in the 50’s and until the later 1960’s.
So there…a bit of history for you on the subject 😊

I started casually wearing headscarves after checking out orthodox churches, but I was not consistent about it. After a rough breakup in a toxic relationship, I did not appreciate how often people looked at me in a sexual manner. This wasn’t religious at all; it was a triggering reminder of that relationship and the deep sense of loss I felt. My hair is often complimented as one of my best features, and when baggy clothes weren’t enough, I started hiding or at least covering the hair. It made me feel protected and gave me a sense of privacy. It serves as a welcome comfort in this dark period of my life.
I wore a chapel veil to latin mass (my first experience with it) as a sign of respect and started finding myself wanting to wear it everywhere. I’m a bit of a lost sheep. Authority is not enough of a motivator for me, but when things make sense to me, they just do, and covering my hair is just as comforting and protective for me as, say, wearing baggy clothes when bloated and uncomfy did.

I'm not sure if you're asking if "full-time covering" is okay for christian women, but if you are, this is what I personally think after studying scripture: you can absolutely always cover your hair/head, in Jesus' time women covered. As christian women we are called to cover in prayer (not in a specific church building, IMO) as a sign of our humility and discipleship towards God and we are also called to pray without ceasing. so you can cover full-time if you are already praying without ceasing (amazing!) or have the covering be your physical reminder of incessant prayer or want to wear your headcovering like the crown you may wear as the daughter of the Most High King or whatever reason the Holy Sprit gives you.
Please know, that you are not the only Christian woman that wants to and does cover full-time! I'm one of them ;)
And oh yes, they are SO comfortable 😁

I loved wearing chapel veils. We never analyzed why we did either. We just did it. There were 2 kinds. The cap style and the mantilla style. The colors were black and white.

I joyfully ditch head covering when it was announced but I am back to head covering realizing that not covering my head is less respectful than covering. One other advantage people don’t mess with their hair if it’s covered, it even less respectful to mess with our hair durning Mass.

Thank you for this. I am a Christian who felt called to cover 2 years ago during church, prayer, and in my personal devotional time. I love it. It brings me so much peace, joy, calm, and focus.
I think 1 Cor 11 makes it pretty clear that a woman should cover or veil her head in public worship. The word for covering in 1 Corthians 11:4, 5,6,7, 13, is the word, katakalýptō, from katá, "down, and kalýptō, "to cover"-cover down, to make appropriate (complete), i.e. to wear a veil.
It is the same word used for the veil that separated the Holy of holies from the priests.
But only in vrs 15, where Paul is giving an example from nature is a different word used, "but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering."
This is different word from the others for "cover"= "peribolaion," that which is thrown around or a mantel that can be thrown around (As in when a women tosses or throws her hair around).
Cover in the first few verses of 1 Cor 11, should really be translated veil.
This is where we get the English saying, "Let your hair down." Becuase during the "sexual revolution" women let there hair down out of thier buns, uncovered their hair and shook it back and forth.
Up until only the last two generations woman covered in Church. All of our grandmothers would have covered in church. This is why the Hutterites, Mennonites, Amish, the orthodox churches, a lot of African congratations, and Messiniac Beleivers, etc still cover their hair.
Here's some verses in the OT about head covering if anyone is interested. Hope these help.
Isaiah 47:1-2. Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For you shall no more be called tender and delicate. Take the millstones and grind flour, "put off your veil", strip off your robe, uncover your legs, pass through the rivers.
(So as we can see, even virgins were to keep their heads covered and save their hair for their husbands. Otherwise it is like they are showing all their nakedness).
Numbers 5:18. Then the priest shall stand the woman before the LORD, "uncover the woman’s head," and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse.
Also Genesis 20:16 says in the Hebrew
Then to Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; indeed this is "a covering for her eyes" (to put back on her wedding covering) you before all who are with you and before everybody.” Thus she was rebuked.
From what I understand In Genesis 24:65. Rebekah covers herself because the bridal price has already been paid. 2 vrs later we see Isaac take Rebekah bright away into his tent. There was no wedding ceremony. Her covering herself was an outward show of her marriage to Isaac. Since they were married he was allowed to take her right away into his tent and "uncover" her.

It was informative and very helpful. I think perhaps the reason some of us say "veiling" rather than "wear a veil" is because of the American tendency to make nouns into verbs, such as FAXing or texting or hearting. However, having heard your explanation, I'll try to be more careful in case it bothers others. I haven't started wearing veils yet (I have a few,), but hope to soon and look forward to it.

This is beautiful. I have felt called to veil for a while, I even purchased one about a year ago, but haven't yet had the courage to wear it to mass. My husband recently mentioned it to me (he didn't know I had bought one, but we have recently moved and are attending a much more reverent parish), so I am really determined to start. I have practical questions though.
Mainly, when do you put it on? Do you put it on in the car before you go in? I wouldn't want to hold people up while I was fussing with it walking into the church. I know it's trivial, but as a convert, I constantly feel like I am messing things up and not doing it correctly.

Hello lovely I just found your Chanel. May I please have your opinion please. I help at a Catholic Church. I am religious although I haven’t been baptised. I have attended mass and have seen 2 of the ladies wearing veils. They are Asian ladies where I am English. I had a shawl around my shoulders as I had bare shoulders and thought it was right to cover. I sat in mass and pulled the shawl up and over my head I felt a little silly but felt it was the respectful right thing to do. I have just ordered a veil today to wear for mass. Do you think I’m wrong to wear one? I felt it was the respectful right thing to do. Please your opinion is very valid and helpful. God bless. Carly xxxxx

I have heard of this and I think it’s a beautiful metaphor but I think that if taken the wrong way it can give too much importance to women and/or demean the sacredness of the Holy Vessels. I’m conflicted on it, which is why I didn’t mention it. I, as a woman, don’t compare to the sacred chalice or tabernacle or Our Lady, the Arc of the Covenant.

They both retain the custom of head covering although they use different things than the mantilla (which is actually Spanish in origin). Anglicans prefer hats and Orthodox use scarves. In Genesis, God had to vail Adam and Eve because of their sin. When Jesus came, the vail was torn from the temple as he removed the sin from the world by His death. When a groom marries his bride, he unveils her. God has unveiled His people by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son. Therefore, everyone should be unveiled before God, if they are holy and sinless and in the right state to receive communion, otherwise please refrain from communion and go to confession quickly so that you may be unveiled before the Holy One.
The only true garment that should be worn before God, is your baptismal garment.

Well with that logic, let’s all just walk up to Communion in our birthday suits. I don’t always cover my head but in principle I stand with the Church’s ancient teaching that women’s heads are covered in Church due to the structure of Authority: because of the Angels. I trust that structure and I submit to it

I am laughing when you talked about the tissue. I am Catholic and we had to wear a veil to church all of my school life. Once, when I was a senior I forgot my veil. I was told I had to wear a tissue on my head. I was angry and realized then , that Jesus did not care if I had a veil on my head. Especially a tissue ! He just wants me there. That’s when I stopped wearing one. I have absolutely no problem with wearing a veil but a tissue to me is ridiculous. It’s up to each person to decide if they want a veil.

the Bible says that woman's hair is her covering (1 cor 11;15). apostle paul never said to cover the covering which is woman's hair. what you are saying is unbiblical and false. you mislead and deceive people. our covering is Lord Yeshu Hamashiyah alone. all other external things are unbiblical and they are nothing but relying on the flesh. thats is sin.

    • @AbbeyClint
      @AbbeyClint  5 месяцев назад +3

Wrong. He very clearly says to cover her hair during public Liturgy. 1 Corinthians 11:5-6:
5 “But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is one and the same thing as having a shaved head. 6 For if a woman will not cover her head, she should cut off her hair. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should cover her head.”
That the hair is regarded by Paul as a covering in v. 15 is not necessarily an argument that the hair is the same as the head covering that he is describing in the earlier verses (esp. v. 10). Throughout this unit of material, Paul points out the similarities of long hair with a head covering. But his doing so seems to suggest that the two are not to be identified with each other. Precisely because they are similar they do not appear to be identical (cf. vv. 5, 6, 7, 10, 13). If head covering = long hair, then what does v. 6 mean (“For if a woman will not cover her head, she should cut off her hair”)? This suggests that the covering is not the same as the hair itself.
