So glad that he has his loving family to support him. This is such a relevant and important topic… I had a head injury from a car accident 45 years ago, and still have issues from it.
Yes. Perhaps he doesn’t have CTE. It can only be confirmed post-mortem (via autopsy). Perhaps he had a stroke instead. Sometimes it’s difficult for a definitive diagnosis of stroke if it’s a TIA. I’m just guessing & only surmising since the report said that his symptoms got suddenly worse 2 years ago in 2022 when he was 68 years old.
What a person! Accepting his new reality and doing the best he can to contribute to his family and friends. And moving on with no regrets. Beautiful report. Thank you

This is a mix of both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Sad that he is going through this but I enjoyed hearing John's memories and story. I remember seeing him on KDKA all the time. I also fear that I may have CTE from a variety of traumatic head injuries when I was younger.

Jon, I wish you and your family all the best. You were among the George Plimpton era of good journalists. By any stretch, you've had a great life and still contributing your first-person knowledge to help inform others. All the best 🙏
Jon had two concussions, but it’s not for certain his current brain impairment is due to football. Perhaps he doesn’t have CTE. Although not knowing technically what CTE was, but known about years ago especially with boxers is the reason that I would not allow my son to play football or any Contacts sport in high school. Apparently this kind of problem is cumulative. Repeated blows head show up in boxers and as an example I'll use Mohammed Ali, and certainly football players because you can see the foolishness that they get involved in after retiring. Like throwing their furniture off of their deck about 10 stories up in Pittsburgh at a high-rise.

Tell them to look into hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It's showing lots of promise for brain trauma. He can go to a clinic, but for what they charge, it might make sense for him to look into buying his own chamber. For less than $40k, he can have his own hard chambered (important) unit delivered to his house, and use it as much as he needs. That's less than the price of most new cars these days.

How about childhood abuse by parents. Hitting us on the head hard and hitting us so hard we end up on the floor or hitting us in the face and ur head hits a protrusion like the old light switches on the wall. All of which happened to me. Also an extremely heavy lead crystal bowl being thrown and hitting my forehead where I had a huge lump on my forehead.
No way should any parent allow a child to play football knowing what we now know. I am always sad seeing youngsters groomed to suffer this due to Americans' weird obsession with football.

@@agua9999 According to the Boston University CTE Center, CTE has been found in 345 out of 376 deceased former NFL players' brains including Junior Seau, Chris Henry, Aaron Hernandez, Ken Stabler, Frank Gifford and Bubba Smith among others. Living former NFL players reporting symptoms consistent with CTE include Jay Cutler, Tony Dorsett, Boimer Esiason, Brett Farve, Mark Gastineau, Bernie Kosar, Jim McMahon, Joe Namath, William "The Refrigerator" Perry, Warren Sapp and O.J. This is one of the oddest news coverages that I've ever seen. Starting with the "suspected CTE" from the doctor. Wish JB the best, but I don't love the narrative if I'm being honest.
Perhaps he had a TIA (a stroke that can’t be known definitively since it’s a temporary blockage) or perhaps he has CTE, but if it’s the latter, then it can’t be diagnosed until after death (because CTE can only be confirmed via autopsy).
41 year Pittsburgher here. Remember his reporting well. Stay strong.
I’m so sad for this diagnosis. Yet I’m happy he’s still got that humor, and being himself! Wonderful man!

He seems to still be aware & somewhat cognizant. He touched so many with his personality. Bless him

I am so sorry you had to suffer such abuse. I don't know what to say. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love
I’m sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully you’ll learn to heal. God bless💛
What a guy and a beautiful story.
I met himat the Meadows racetrack when he first came to Pittsburgh. Also rode with him on a poker run or two back in 90s.Hang in there bud.

Praying for Jon
Sorry Man……… you don’t deserve this
God Bless you and your family, Jon.
Sorry to hear prayers for jon family and friends
Always remember he called Cloud To Ground lightning ⚡ BOOMERS 😅
I don’t have cable anymore so I didn’t know he retired a few years ago. Prayers to you and your family, Jon.
Jon was on free tv. You can try to use a $20 antenna to get local stations on CBS, ABC, & NBC without buying cable.

I can't remember the lady's name who's reporting here. Can someone tell me? TYIA.
Kristine Sorensen (I think that’s Jon’s former tv colleague)
I still miss Bill Burns
I remember watching Bill Burns and his daughter Patty Burns doing the noon report on KDKA.
Bless him.

Football......
How old is he?
I think he’s only 70. The report said that he started experiencing more severe symptoms two years ago

Yep - reminds me of Joe Biden as well.
it's not 2013 anymore, nobody cares about CTE
