Growing up in Pittsburgh, a day was not complete without Bill Burns sharing the news of the day. KDKA was always the choice for all of the news of the day! Over the years, they seemed like family. Miss those times!!

I have to ask . . . watching old news clips with Bill Burns, does anyone notice a bit of SCTV News anchor Floyd Robertson (Joe Flaherty) in him? I know Flaherty grew up in Pittsburgh and certainly had to have known of Burns . . . and I speak of the times Floyd was reading the news, not his constant on-air bickering with Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy), now . . .

    • @TheBrooklynbodine

It was originally known as WDTV (which stood for Dumont TV). Wasn't it also on channel 3? WDTV is now in Bridgeport, West Virginia, about 20 miles from me and is on channel 5. Didn't Vic Miles (1:39) go to WCBS-TV in later years? At 2:12, the voice-over was done by George Eisenhauer, whom I well remember as a kid (I'm now 57).

@@matthewfinlay5583 - I seem to remember at the early going of the "Patti & Daddy" pairing, "SCTV" apparently lampooning same in an "SCTV News" sketch where Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy) had his son Earl Jr. (Donald Cowper, nephew of John Candy) filling in for Floyd Robertson (Joe Flaherty, R.I.P.) while the latter was a bit delayed in arriving at the set. The historian in me thought that a cheap shot, wonder what other Pittsburghers who originally saw that sketch "at the time" (1977-78) thought . . .

I liked Bob Kudzma. Good weatherman. Now I don't recognize hardly anybody anymore. I remember they hired a guy named CS Keys late 90's. Looked to be a rising star on the station, maybe the replacement for Kudzma - he used to say "pause for the cause". Then it came out he had abused his wife or girlfriend or something and immediately KDKA cut ties. It was like you blinked and he was gone. He got hired in Philly for a bit and then the station there I guess found out and got rid of him. Now he is in San Diego and been there for many years and seemingly doing well.

    • @TheBrooklynbodine

I remember Bob Kudzma well! He and Pat Sajak (at least at one time) resembled each other.
