Yes, Dr. McCarthy is a heart valve guru. How are you doing after your heart valve surgery?

I just turned 63 and APRN found murmur during physical that wasn't there 9 months prior. I had an echo that showed me on the border between mild to moderate. Echo stated possible bicusid valve but echo could not get a good pic. Everything else was normal except slight hypertrophy of ventricals. Chambers normal and pumping 60-65% which i understand is normal. Went to Cardiologist and said nothing to do since I have zero symptoms and frequently walk/hike 2-3 miles 3-4 day/wk. and lift weights with no problems. I have no high BP or cholesterol. Said come back in a year for another echo and if still inconclusive on bicuspid then maybe order a CT to confirm. Do you think I should get a second opinion?

I have the same thing. My doctor told me once I get the surgery I won't have any restrictions on my heart rate so I can excersise as much as I want.

@@alwaystruth1.2 Keep getting it checked every 6 months or whatever your cardiologist recommends. Stenosis can progress rapidly sometimes so it's important to keep an eye on it. if it gets too bad you'll have to have a valve replacement. depending on your case they may be able to do it through a catheter so no open hesrt surgery.

I have a bicuspid aortic valve I was diagnosed when I was first born...I still haven't had surgery because it is no harm I get echoes every year to make sure it's not acting up or something.. I'm not allowed to play sports such a wrestling football hockey and lacrosse basically all contact sports...so my question is If I had this surgery would I b able to play football or hockey?

I have BAVD too. I was told as a teenager I would probably need surgery in my 30s. But im 43 now and still hanging in there. Two years ago I was told I will need surgery in 5-10 years. A question I have is about exercise. I've noticed people commenting on that. Are we not supposed to exercise?

I have Bicuspid Valve, I don't need surgery - apparently because it's not a problem, until I'm 40-50 I just need echocardiography on me then I will get the valve fixed. Until then I'm restricted to soft excercises.

Please get regular echocardiograms to ensure the bicuspid aortic valve disease doesn't progress rapidly.

My son is 9 and bicuspid auortic valve was found in 2015, not birth. This year the size has changed and football was pulled but swimming and soccer okay, for now
I was warned soon contact sports would be a no. I'm absolutely terrified, how do you even explain to a 9 year old who loves sports and running. :(

I am so scared , I have just been told I have bicuspid valve , I am 37. I struggle to breath and my blood pressure is a little high sometimes.. I have been having panic attacks for the last 4 years and and they have only just found the heart issue. My anxiety is so bad I’m scared my kids will find me dead. I can’t deal with not breathing right I cannot climb stairs, I cannot run, yet doctors say my lungs are clear, 99 98 % oxygen in my body. I get stabbing pains left side of my chest, pain in my stomach. Cardiologist says my heart is functioning normal and no stenosis slight leak but so minimal. Saying I shouldn’t be experiencing any problems ... please help

This is happening same to me ......I have been having regularly panic attack when covid is at its peak but after some time I realise shortlessness of breath could not go to the doctor because concern about breath issue so doctor put me in isolation and would checked me after 14 days .mean while my result came and I'm selected as constable in state police .
After that we fill congested chest ,some time severe chest pain ,shortlessness of breath regularly go to cardiac physian and tell everything he do normal check up ECG echo cardiograph and tmt all report is normal but grade 2 thickness in aortic valve .he said u have RHD(rheumatic heart dieses ) caused by bacteria in developing country abou 10 to 15 % adolesce are being affected by it so don't worry take penidure 12l in every 3rd week
After that we did not feel much better so I go to another clinic and go through the same procedure .doctor did echo me and say u r the BAV!after diagnosed with BAV I go to the higher clinic and same result with mild AR.and ascending aorta .doctor said not need to surgery almost 15 year even in future.but my problem is persisanlty increasing .some time severe chest pain occur and some time chest feel congestive ..I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ???may God help me plese ...very sacaring about surgery but not needed now acoording to doctor
I leave the job after prescribed by the doctor because so much strenuous work involved in it so plese help
