Thanks Kathryn for the two ecoprinting videos. I love the variations in tone and the surprise element when you opened the bundle. I also love the new life that you'll give to the old books. The unveiling of the bundle was mesmerizing for me. Thank you!! ❤
Golly! I loved watching you do these pieces for the new journal. So exciting when you reveal the variety of materials. You have inspired me yet again! Thank you. ❤
I wasn’t expecting so much beautiful material from this😍😍. It’s very inspiring. Thank you for sharing this tutorial, you are such a inspiration! Love Tineke
Thank you, Kathryn, for all the work you put into your instructions. I couldn't wait for the alum to arrive. I wrapped up cloth, leaves, and rusty bits, put them in an aluminum pan, and left it to soak for about 48 hours. When the alum arrived, I undid the bundle to add more leaves. To my surprise, the leaves had already made imprints. I followed your process of tying and simmering in hot water. The results were stunning. Thank you again. You're very important to many people.
I love your experimental approach 😊 like when we made book bundles in the Monday project and buried them, time is enough to produce some marks. Adding mordant and heat to the process produces more depth, detail and range of colours. ❤️
Completely off topic, but I made a biscornu! Went back to the old video and followed the tutorial. I’m excited because it’s a useable object I actually sewed. I was working on piecing a quilt and realized why pin cushions are a handy item to have and remembered the tutorial. I’m ridiculously proud of it. I made it to wear on my wrist, and it works 🧵🪡💙
Thank you Kathryn, this episode was so interesting to watch! Most videos I watch while knitting, but this one I only watched. To see the prints and colours appear on the cloth or paper ... it's almost a miracle 🤩
Such beauty, Kathryn. I would want to keep them all laid out on the dining room table to admire, until the dust threatened. Happily waiting to see you honour them in your book.
What a lovely reveal, I was ooohing and aaahing all the way! It doesn’t get more unique than this. Can’t wait to try my own bundle. Have a lovely weekend! 🍀💖🥰
Your work is beautiful. I was thrilled to see part 2 had uploaded and I was able to enjoy it with a cup of coffee this morning. I have been eco printing for a few years now and never cease to be amazed at the results when I unwrap my bundles. It’s just like Christmas morning! LOL. I have had good luck cleaning the black from my hands by rubbing my hands with a slice of lemon. I usually start off with gloves and end up chucking them part way thru…..I wouldn’t worry too much but I can’t show up at work with black fingers.
Thank you, yes I have done the lemon trick in the past when I was obliged to have clean hands. I don't think most people here mind though. And I agree about opening bundles, if I have left one overnight, it's my first thought on waking ' bundle '! 😁❤️
What lovely results you achieved, my dear ❤. I love all of it! I started my own little batch of cloth using tea, rose petals, rusty bits, and assorted leaves. It's a fun experiment, and the reveal is always worthwhile. Looking forward to making a journal along with you ❤
So beautiful, I have a lot of catching up to do but so looking forward to seeing the results of my attempts. Very much looking forward to the journal making . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us . Take care.
Hi Kathryn, I love the eco printing videos! The unpredictability of the result is what appeals to me the most, we usually see unpredictability as a negative but this is a chance to play without fear of failure. I showed these videos and the iron and tea dyeing videos to my husband and he was wowed by your results. He is passionate about calligraphy and wanted to try it with different types of paper straight away. We had a really enjoyable evening experimenting with leaves, rusty metal, onion skins, tea, coffee and salt (as recommended in your videos). His paper turned out so well, he's already thinking about what he could use to dye with next. You're lovely and your videos are so inspiring, thanks X
I really enjoyed these 2 videos K3n. I will watch again to make sure I try and get everything in the right order! It's a fascinating way of doing printing. I can't wait to try out. 😊🐾🐾
What a wonderful video! The wrapping cloth was my favourite piece from the fabric, but it was the paper that surprised me the most. The colours reminded me of Arthur Rackham illustrations. Gorgeous. Lots of ideas fizzing in my head 😃
I looked forward to today when you opened the bundle. Everything turned out perfect. So much you can do with the beautiful pieces. I'm excited to see how you make your journal. 🍁🍁🍁
Oh I did enjoy this. I’m half packed up, expecting to have to stay with my aunt before can finally move in new year…so limited in what I can craft & create. Living vicariously through you 🙂💚
Those turned out beautiful!! How exciting to have so many pieces to include in your journal. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final piece!! Hugs ❤
Hi Katherine, Your pieces of treasure came out beautifully! Looking forward to seeing the journal made soon. Luckily I love old books and making them into journals so I have a few. Thank You for sharing.
Wauw, that really is a beautiful result!! I love the colours and especially the blotchy ones!! Can't wait to try it myself, I still have lots of materials from dying my wool in the past using plants. Thank you so much for these 2 videos, I will preserve them preciously ❤❤❤
This and part one were so enjoyable to watch. I always love the big reveal on video, as well as my own. I sent you a message a week or so ago concerning my inability to access the kofi videos. Kofi people were very responsive, as you predicted, and I am up and running now. So much to go back and watch. Thanks for all that you share.
The end result is so beautiful Kathryn 😊 and it's brilliant to see the whole process. I love the blotchy grungy colours. I don't have linen or cotton but I do have a variety of papers and postcards and even music score paper used as packaging material which I kept just because it could maybe be useful at some point. I have an old roasting tin ( no aluminium pot) I wonder if I could onion skin and or tea dye the papers - I have leaves pressed ready - maybe I could just do that sort of baby steps - pre-beginner you could say! It was wonderful to watch and something to aspire to. Your journal will be fabulous I know from stuff you've shown us. An uplifting project I'd say! Big love from Scotland ❤
You can layer your papers directly in your roasting tin with leaves and onion skins and rusty bits, put a weight on top and cook them for about an hour on the stove, put some tea in the water will help too. ❤️
I've had a fabulous day eco dying. The best results were on an old piece of satin and some raw silk someone gave me many years ago and had never thought what to use it for. Great fun.
That's funny, I was just talking about Aubrey Beardsley to a friend the other day, I was working for the V&A in the 90s during a big exhibition of his work. ❤️
I couldn’t hardly wait to see your results. I have cleaned up my mess from the previous eco printing but you have inspired me to give it another try before all the leaves are gone. I look forward to seeing you make the journal. Its always so fun to play with previous papers and fabric in the winter. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure, I have the same feeling, I think I might do a few more cloths and papers before the leaves are gone as I don't have much left, not having had chance to do a lot this year with my life changes 🥰
Unpacking this magical, transformational parcel brought back two lovely memories from my childhood. My father , who for a time, was a sole charge head teacher in small rural schools, built us wood fired brick kilos to fire pottery we had made from clay we had dug and worked ourselves. The firing and opening of the kiln was a school weeks work. The firing went on into the night, flames roaring from the bent, old iron chimney. The results were sometimes incredibly beautiful. I remember one dish that had crystallized glass in one portion that was crazed with large pieces.. I have to this day a small African styled head I made aged 10 years. It is glazed a dark black/brown. Dad made his own glaces, so the whole adventure was very alchemical. The other story about my paternal, Lancastrian, grandmother who was born 126 years ago and died in 1964. When my Dad and Incles were clearing out her cottage Dad found a parcel labeled "Pieces of String too Short to Use". I did chuckle when you were saving your bits of string. No doubt they will be used perhaps in small couched spirals on a piece of slow stitching, or so I imagine. Thank you so much for such a wonderful series. You could still use two of the cardboard pieces for your cover if you attached them to some of your cloth you dyed in your dye bath. Perhaps you could stitch them to the cloth with your string, couched like a frame around the card. I have eco printed before and must again. Arohanui from me in Aotearoa New Zealand ❤
A good friend of mine is a potter and told me about a way of making pottery, I think it's called raku? I remember being struck by how similar it is to ecoprinting. Although from Yorkshire stock, I was actually born in Lancashire, perhaps it's those thrifty northern ways that lead me to save bits of string. 😉 Yes I will use them somehow in the journal, they are part of it's story, along with the cardboard. I will see where the journey takes me. Much love Jan ❤️
@k3n.clothtales I do have a Raku pot a friend made. It does look like an eco print. My ancestory takes me back to Yorkshire, too. My surname is Danish,Viking from the coast of Yorkshire. I am Scandenavian on my mother's side hence my first name. My Great Grandfather was Jan Anders who jumped ship into New Zealand. He was Norwegian. I also have a strong Irish ancestors as many Kiwi's do.
The gold tones are my favourite especially the fabric with the flowers ❤ I have eco printed once but mine turned very dark and now I understand that I had to much iron in my batch so I will have another go. Thank you for showing the whole process ⭐️
All so beautiful! I think the outer cloths with the string marks might be my favourite, they have such a graphic feel to them, so delicious! ;) Thanks for showing the whole process!
These two parts are really wonderful, Kathryn! So much information that I can refer to again and again as needed. I will order some aluminum lactate and hope it comes in time to still get some green fallen leaves, but if it doesn't, it's reassuring to hear that spring leaves will work reasonably well also. And autumn will come again! 🙂 Thank you for your very clear instructions. This sort of project-teaching is so well suited to youtube, as we can see the process throughout.
Hello Kate, you can gather leaves now and press them between paper under a heavy book. I have a little stack in the shed, thinking I might do a bit more. If they dry out you can soak them in hot water for 20 minutes or so before bundling, just enough to make them pliable. ❤️
As always, a pleasure to watch and listen to Kathryn. I'm really looking forward to seeing your eco journal with all those wonderful goodies you have produced ❤️
I know now why I enjoy ecodye. It brings me back to childhood in France. When my mum/my granny, was telling us: Arrêtez de patouiller les filles!’. (Messy games/hands in the water for hours. Thank you Katryn.
For many years I have dyed 100% wool for use in rug hooking. I would dye many yards in one day, wash them in the washer and then into the dryer to finish. I would gather my many yards of wool, take them to the table to do the reveal. Most of the time I was by myself. I would ooh and ahh at the results wishing someone else could be there to appreciate the results!
What beautiful results! I appreciate how mindfully you unwrap your pages and fabric. I get excited and tear through everything very quickly, something I am working on changing. Look forward to your journal making. I have great a good stash of eco dyed material so can follow along with you. No more leaves here in Northern Ontario Canada, we just had our first little snow fall last night!
Thank You Kathryn for sharing these wonderful tutorials. So lovely results. We had the first snow today here in Finland, so no leaves today 😂 but I’ll save this for the future times 😊
Thank you for the reply yesterday and a source in South Africa. I have another option from our pharmacy too. But im goiny to try without the mordant for now as i want to make a start tomorrow. Our leaves are very new as we are just into Spring but ill try. I hope to make the journal too! Thank you for your clear videos.
awe, what stunning results you’ve got! I especially love the delicate marks on the paper! Can’t wait to see how this journal will come together and looks like … I’m still looking for the mordant stuff, didn’t find it in Austria yet and they charge quite a lot for shipping from the UK … so I‘ll see … But just out of curiosity I gave it a try skipping that step in the dyeing process and got quite lovely results, too - and I hope it will be good enough for a journal😅 Thank you for that great video, 🤗 Angelika
Thankyou really enjoyed that I would love to start a journal no clue how and where to start.looking forward to a tutorial on it hope your feeling better in yourself does take time starting out again on your own but you are doing so well look how far you have come your home is looking so nice and cosy and that's all down to you well donex
Thank you so much Jane, I feel better every day. I am keen to start on the journal so as soon as I have a few hours to spare, I will begin, and make a video at the same time ❤️
I'm amazed at the variety of results! Lovely! I will try this but it may have to wait till spring. Depends on when my alum gets here. The leaves are going fast with unseasonably warm weather where I live. Thanks Kathryn for the inspiration and instruction!
Thank you Carol, you can gather and press your leaves between paper and under a book, they will keep for ages, even all winter. If they get dry and brittle, just soak in warm water for about 20 minutes before making the bundle. 🥰
Absolutely wonderful results. My imagination saw so many interesting critters and things in the black iron dyed splotches. Everything from praying mantis to skulls and everything in between. I would take a micron pen to them for more enjoyment. But, thats just me. LOL💙
Would it be too rude or vulgar to tell you that I had to stop the video....get a hankie....and wipe the drool off my chin???? Fabulous!!!!! Living in the desert, I'm limited to gathering many different types of leaves, however after my exploration this spring of the Creosote bush dying that remains colorfast, I will mordant some more cloth and see what the fall brings....I'm totally excited to venture into this type of dying as I have only used powder extracts of a variety of plants. I can't express enough my gratitude to you, Kathryn for all you share! 😘🤗
Beautiful work. Have you considered popping a length of Dental Floss/ PTFE Plumber tape… similar stuff just under each layer knots .. helps undo “Stubborn “ knots by pulling both ends together & encouraging it to undo…. Works a treat for me. Also your eco dyed fabrics would be great if photoed taken and then printed as postcards … could sell singular or sets in your shop. Would be lovely to buy as treat for self or small pressie. Many thanks sharing for your wonderful work .kind regards J.
I would usually patiently undo them, it's part of my process but it's a good tip. I have thought of having prints made as cards, something for the future and my pleasure to share ❤️
Aah Dyeing quote from other guru! Enthralling thing to do--the moment when snips the sodden bandages of string to unfold a great steaming swirling marble mosaic of colour is as palpitations as a blase adult can hope for between tea and supper O a cold winter afternoon. Jocasta Innes
Oh I just love this stuff. Everything is so beautiful. Itching to try this but unfortunately all our leaves are gone now, we’ve had temps below zero the last couple of weeks. No snow yet but there have been many times there were blizzards here on Halloween 😁. Next year. I can make some rusty pieces of metal things now tho. Thank you for sharing your method of eco printing Kathryn, greatly appreciated.
I love eco printing. Some gorgeous shapes and colours! I’m looking forward to seeing how to wax the leaves. I found some leaves I’d preserved with glycerin a few years ago, for a wreath. Have you any suggestions as to how I could reuse them please? Thank you.
Thank you, there is a video about waxing leaves here ruclips.net/video/yBE6lFObM7w/видео.htmlsi=0Vf4cAf3yVi4-lAe but I will talk more about it during the process of making the journal. I have never used glycerin but I would imagine they could be used in similar ways. I stitch waxed leaves or include them as a collage element in my journals, or trap them under lace etc. I hope you will follow along with the journal making videos when they come along. ❤️
Kathryn, at 45:51 the cloth looks to have a black circle in the top right corner with a whitish image of a woman praying. Amazing what one sees in eco printed cloth.
Yes, I often see figures and shapes. There is a book called Lady Cottingtons Pressed Fairy Book by Terry Jones. I often think ecoprints look like those. 😁❤️
Hi Kathryn quick question please? I have retrieved my bundle and it’s cooling ready to be unbundled 😊. How should I dispose of the dye pan rusty onion skinny water? Can I put it down the drain or does it need more careful disposal? Thank you. (Excited for the reveal later…..)❤
I generally take out the rusty bits and the leaves and save the dye bath to use again but you can pour it onto a rough patch of ground, under a bush or somewhere like that, just onto the ground, it's only iron and tannin, both naturally occurring so won't do any harm ❤️
This has been so inspiring. You might have mentioned this in part one or two but when do you find the best time to collect the leaves is? Spring, summer, fall???
@katethompson2818 Thanks! I thought I heard that but have been watching several different videos in a row and couldn't keep track of all the great info. 😊
What deliciousness! Just fascinating. And the results are truly beautiful. Will definitely be following along as you make your journal. ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!! Excited about the journal making too ❤❤❤
Thanks so much 😊
Thanks Kathryn for the two ecoprinting videos.
Thank you. ❤
You are so welcome! 🤗
Gorgeous results 😍 oooh aaah wow wow ah ha wow hmmmm oooh was pretty much all I said for the hour watching the reveals 😂
Thanks so much I am so pleased you enjoyed it 😊
I wasn’t expecting so much beautiful material from this😍😍. It’s very inspiring. Thank you for sharing this tutorial, you are such a inspiration! Love Tineke
My pleasure Tineke, I am happy to share how beautiful it can be 🥰❤️
Beautiful!!! I especially loved the print of the lace, but it's all wonderful, and varied, which will be perfect for the journal. ❤
Absolutely gorgeous! And so, so soothing to watch...a great escape from election anxiety!
Thank you Candace, my heart is with you 🤞❤️
Thank you, Kathryn, for all the work you put into your instructions.
I couldn't wait for the alum to arrive. I wrapped up cloth, leaves, and rusty bits, put them in an aluminum pan, and left it to soak for about 48 hours.

Yeay that is lovely to hear 🥰
Enjoyed this Kathryn.
Yes..am inspired to gather my bits of fabric and rusty bits.
Love the slowness and calm after a stressful day..
Thanks.
These papers/cloths are magical ! The wrapping cloths are amazing! Thank you for sharing
Glad you like them and it's my pleasure ❤️
Thank you Kathryn, this episode was so interesting to watch! Most videos I watch while knitting, but this one I only watched. To see the prints and colours appear on the cloth or paper ... it's almost a miracle 🤩
Thank you Inge, it does feel miraculous every time 😊❤️
Oh i got so happy when you decided to keep some of the beautifully marked leaves!
What beautiful informative video, Thank-you so much kathryn, my adventure begins....❤❤❤
Loved this revival, it is almost like opening a present.❤
It feels like a gift every time ❤️
Such an inspiring video.Looking forward to seeing your journal come to life.Thank you!!
Such beauty, Kathryn. I would want to keep them all laid out on the dining room table to admire, until the dust threatened. Happily waiting to see you honour them in your book.

Wonderful!!! I am in! I am gathering my materials and can’t wait to get started. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge!!!
Great, I hope you have fun 😊
Love, love, love this!! 💗 💓💓 Thank you for detailed videos of the eco printing process. Looking forward to the journaling videos. 🤗
Yes, I am very inspired! Thanks Kathryn, as always.
I enjoyed the reveal so much… it was delicious!!!
What a lovely reveal, I was ooohing and aaahing all the way! It doesn’t get more unique than this. Can’t wait to try my own bundle. Have a lovely weekend! 🍀💖🥰
Thank you Machteld, I hope you have fun, I can just imagine how creative you could be, especially with the papers. 🥰

What can I say..?.... absolutely fabulous....I follow and love ALL your videos....inspiring me in so many ways. Thank you.
I could watch you peeling pages and cloths apart for hours. Mesmerising. Thankyou so much x
Yes me too 😊
Bravo 👏 Can’t wait to see the start of the journal.
thank you for sharing the whole process, and popping in bits of advice and practical information about the whys and why nots
My pleasure!❤️
This was better than Christmas!
So inspiring, thank you❤️
What lovely results you achieved, my dear ❤.
Take care.

Glorious colors❤ The little grouping you did at the end was picture perfect. Excited to make this Journal

@@k3n.clothtales Good to know!! Thanks. I'm now thinking you might have told us that in the video??
Just ordered my alum lactate. I'm gathering my bits all ready for when it arrives ❤
Wonderful! 😘
So fun! Thank you so much❣️
Beautiful. Can't wait for the journal.❤
Thank you ♥️
As always, a pleasure to watch and listen to Kathryn.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your eco journal with all those wonderful goodies you have produced ❤️
Thank you Wendy ❤️
Fabulous episode with all the ingredients to make a new journal for a new life! ❤️
Thank you for sharing this fabulous tutorial ❤️
You are very welcome Pam ❤️
I know now why I enjoy ecodye. It brings me back to childhood in France. When my mum/my granny, was telling us: Arrêtez de patouiller les filles!’. (Messy games/hands in the water for hours. Thank you Katryn.
Patouiller is a wonderful word 🥰
Wonderful! Will start collecting next week in readiness. What a fabulous project to look forward to. Thank you Kathryn 💕
I know that feeling, it's lovely to share the joy ❤️
Realmente me encanta esta técnica, voy a ponerla en práctica saludos desde Perú 🇵🇪
Wonderful, I hope you have good results with your plants ❤️
What beautiful results! I appreciate how mindfully you unwrap your pages and fabric. I get excited and tear through everything very quickly, something I am working on changing. Look forward to your journal making. I have great a good stash of eco dyed material so can follow along with you. No more leaves here in Northern Ontario Canada, we just had our first little snow fall last night!
I am glad you have a stock to work with 😁❤️
Thank You Kathryn for sharing these wonderful tutorials. So lovely results. We had the first snow today here in Finland, so no leaves today 😂 but I’ll save this for the future times 😊
Благодарю, очень интересно и полезно для меня.
Beautiful alchemy ! Loved the books too and yes I always go through the anxiety of their reusablility,
The first time I cut one, I nearly cried. But I think it's better to give them new life than to let them go to landfill. 🥰
Gorgeous results 😍😊
Thank you Rita ❤️
❤ TFS, I am mesmerized by these beautiful prints!
Without mordant best to stick to paper and use lots of iron, water or rusty scraps ❤️
awe, what stunning results you’ve got! I especially love the delicate marks on the paper! Can’t wait to see how this journal will come together and looks like …
I’m still looking for the mordant stuff, didn’t find it in Austria yet and they charge quite a lot for shipping from the UK … so I‘ll see …
But just out of curiosity I gave it a try skipping that step in the dyeing process and got quite lovely results, too - and I hope it will be good enough for a journal😅
Thank you for that great video,
🤗 Angelika
Thankyou really enjoyed that I would love to start a journal no clue how and where to start.looking forward to a tutorial on it hope your feeling better in yourself does take time starting out again on your own but you are doing so well look how far you have come your home is looking so nice and cosy and that's all down to you well donex
Thank you so much Jane, I feel better every day. I am keen to start on the journal so as soon as I have a few hours to spare, I will begin, and make a video at the same time ❤️
Gorgeous prints. Looking forward to seeing how they are all incorporated into your work ❤
Thank you ❤️
I'm amazed at the variety of results!
İnanınki bu yaşa geleli ilkkez gördüm böyle birşey ilginç👏 devamında ne olcak sonucu merak ediyorum 💐🙋
I am going to make a journal with it all Hülya, I will share the process here ❤️
Such delights ❤ ! It's so deliciously beautiful
Absolutely wonderful results. My imagination saw so many interesting critters and things in the black iron dyed splotches. Everything from praying mantis to skulls and everything in between. I would take a micron pen to them for more enjoyment. But, thats just me. LOL💙
Yes, that's fun to do, on paper and on cloth of course you can do it with stitching ❤️
Loved watching this! Very inspired to try sometime. ❤
WOW ! What beautiful results ! These will make such a lovely journal ! Thanks for sharing your talent and hard work. ((hugs))
I don't think drooling over ecoprinting is vulgar at all 😁❤️❤️❤️
@@k3n.clothtales 🤣
Thanks!
Thank you so much 😊
Fabulous results thank you
Beautiful work.
Should be a comma between words :stuff, just . My apologies Jx
I would usually patiently undo them, it's part of my process but it's a good tip. I have thought of having prints made as cards, something for the future and my pleasure to share ❤️
Teşekkürler harikasınız ❤❤❤❤
I need some alum!
Aah Dyeing quote from other guru! Enthralling thing to do--the moment when snips the sodden bandages of string to unfold a great steaming swirling marble mosaic of colour is as palpitations as a blase adult can hope for between tea and supper O a cold winter afternoon.

Perfect quote, sums it up completely 🥰
Oh I just love this stuff. Everything is so beautiful. Itching to try this but unfortunately all our leaves are gone now, we’ve had temps below zero the last couple of weeks. No snow yet but there have been many times there were blizzards here on Halloween 😁. Next year. I can make some rusty pieces of metal things now tho. Thank you for sharing your method of eco printing Kathryn, greatly appreciated.
I am sorry, I meant to do it earlier but life, you know. 😉 There is always next year ❤️
I love eco printing.
@@k3n.clothtales i certainly will! Thanks Kathryn. 😊
@ I’ll have to see if I can get that book from my library.
I believe she said fall but that spring will work too. 🙂
@katethompson2818 Thanks! I thought I heard that but have been watching several different videos in a row and couldn't keep track of all the great info. 😊
Yes Kate is correct, fall is the best time but spring and summer works too 😁❤️
