I'm aware that this is a dangerous opinion out here but I have to admit that I really like the diversity in Trance genres Gareth Emery plays in his sets. It's creative and accessible for Trance fans that like a wide range of Trance subgenres and even for those who like the more commercial stuff. Free advice: If you don't like it just watch one of the Luminosity sets you love and stop talking trash about DJ/Producers who put a lot of effort in their productions and livesets. Constructive criticism is fine but I see a lot of nasty comments without any respect for the artist and the only reason for it is that someone doesn't play the music you want to hear...

I saw him at a very small venue in philly 2 years ago, had a great time. It's just a different style.
He actually played zombie nation in his set at Daer in Hardrock Atlantic city. I wasn't expecting that or to meet him briefly after the show.

Say what you want about this set.. but this is classic Emery .. always dropping surprises and mixing up his set. Lots of different trance genres mashed with vocals .. loved the ebb and flow. It's about being brave in a purist environment. Look at Solarstone dropping the original of Queen. Good DJ sets need a bit of variation theses days imo.

Avb,tiesto,Corsten, all expanded there horizons to reach a broader crowd and Bring Trance to them.yeaaaah right..... Its like me playing a banjo/DRUM bass and kick and calling it Trance just because im AVB. i call it sell outs and commercial Edm producers .that does not mean they are not talented musicians.they all are. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Gareth Emery mixes it up and plays some chill songs and some dance yo ass off songs. He's my favorite DJ. And the production value of his sets is always on point. I've seen him like 3 x's now live and I'm gonna see him a 4th here in NYC....can't effing wait...Watching this video has me hyped again.

It might not look like it since the festival was so busy, but that stage emptied as soon as he came on lol everyone making thir way to the other stages! The ones that stayed probably mainly did to enjoy a rare bit of space

Forschi, It's because space is limited having those stairs and people to the sides and behind means they can have more people/more space.
Probably 200 people up there, either 200 more in there or 200 less on the dance floor giving more space to dance.
And with capacity reduced from last year it makes that actually a genius move, these areas or often just dead space/backstage no access.
@@spiritdancer1699 I did not thinlk about all those on the sides. Just in the beginning there were a few just in front of the booth that were very prominent in the view.
But I was just being grumpy for not attending Lumi this year 😊
@@forschi It's always sad to hear that(that someone couldn't be there).
It's also brilliant to be down on that main dance floor and have your mates and strangers and be kinda dancing with them, like connecting with someone through dance that's 20ft away from you over there and on the steps.
Like me losing my shit with my eyes closed, open them and there's someone up there smiling then comes the double thumbs up-and more smiles, it's priceless.

@Rik Wolters hold up, this set is rubbish and yes there are still great artist e.g. bryan kearney. But the mainstream artists as I mentioned in my previous comment are claiming to play trance. That's incorrect

Sorry but Gareth's style do not fit to Lumi :P This is only my opinion. Listening to sets by Solarstone, Durand, Ferry and O'Callaghan and this one. When Gareth played i feel like i watching asot or UMF or something like event ;) This is trance of nowadays but it's so far far away of being "pure". Thanks for streaming whole event ✌
Everyone has their own opinion. I personally liked Gareth’s set. Trance has always been known to be a diverse genre that covers many subgenres and styles, which means that everyone will bring their own spin and vision to the sound. I think what trance needs nowadays is to have a diverse spectrum of sounds and bring something new and exciting to everyone, because if not, the genre will become stale and not looking forward, and the problem is not the producers, rather, it’s the listeners and fans. When producers try ‘new’ and ‘original’ things, listeners labeled it as "nah, this is not trance" and things like that, so producers get afraid of doing something new and different.
gareth is one of the biggest trance djs at the current moment, (arguably) seems like the biggest one who is keeping the vocal trance alive (even AVB has gone full edm-trance it seems now )
@Rik Wolters Agree with you although I'm more attuned to Uplifting Trance it's good to have more choices for people with other tastes or just that you vary a bit experience. But unless they find a way to make the venue more spacier attracting more people to luminosity is less than optimal. I was there for the first time this year and had a lot of trouble to find enough room to dance....

It's not tho is it!! mostly he played well respected tracks, even playing some of the better remix's(his tunes remixed by others).
Not on mic too much and very well mixed, 1 or 2 questionable tracks.
Also take into account this event covers different styles.
Another area had Activa at the same time, Askew in another bit, And factor B back to the future set in another.
Gareth became the artist playing a softer set for those that are into it.

The other 3 areas had classic or harder trance, softer more commercial sets are still needed for the less hardcore/old ones like me.
I had no issue i was at Activa, then went to Factor B but it was too hot so hot.
I ended up at the Askew set
