      @@taker610 Very much so, I believe the EQC shares parts with the GLE/C but fundamentally isn't a dedicated platform. Maybe they don't think theirs a big enough market currently and don't want to spend the money. But it could be too late for them when they do as rivals products are objectively better in a variety of ways.

    Having tried a few other EV cars and for my use the EQA was the first choice
    I do not require rapid acceleration - high top speed or front trunk
    But the superb handling - quality of the build and the interior features make it better than the equivalent Audi and BMW in my opinion
    The only minus is the range which is shorter than many

  • @Daniel-jm5hd
    @Daniel-jm5hd 2 года назад +5

    I drove the EQA two weeks ago and struggled to get more than 3 miles per kilowatt hour. Range may be an issue for some but I found it really comfortable and easy to drive. Build quality is excellent as always, as is the infotainment system. Downside is the small boot and nowhere to hide the cables.

      Teslas are built like shit, and while the Mach E looks promising, it's just a Ford. People who buy a Mercedes want Mercedes quality. Just out of interest I went to the configuration for this car. I tried to get the similar specs and options for the ID.4 Tech I have on order. Result was more than €60.000, or about €4.000 more than the VW (at almost full trim). And the latter has a bigger battery, much more range and faster charger. Frankly, at first glance it even has more and better options. It is a bigger and roomier car. And finally, the ID.4 even accelerates faster (something I wasn't expecting to ever write, given the 8.5s 0-100 kph).

    Rory you forgot the Kia e-Niro as a major rival to this car. It has superior efficiency and range (similar to Tesla Model 3) to the EQA and has 100 litres more boot capacity- and its not even based on Hyundai's/Kia's latest EV tech which is coming this year. Also the e-Niro costs just under £40k for the top spec version. I expect that the fully loaded EQA you were driving costs a lot more than the £40k you quoted for an EQA. If you want an EV with similar interior space to the EQC there's the Hyundai kona which is even cheaper and even more efficient. I'm afraid Mercedes are a generation behind in the EV game

Most of my local driving i do in electric drive anyway, and when I need to travel distance, I get over 300 miles on petrol. I just can't see any benefit in going fully electric, just a lot more hassel with the pathetic charging infrastructure and the time it takes to charge.

      Unfortunately that’s not necessarily the case. They argue with regulators, saying that the public aren’t ready for EV’s yet, and then point to dismal sales figures for dross like this. Mercedes have already been through this dance with the B Class EV, which wasn’t a bad car for it’s time. Unfortunately the EQC, and EQA do nothing to move the game on from that 7 year old B Class. The danger with cars like this is that it feeds in to the idea that EV’s don’t have the range. In 2021, less than 2 miles per kWh is just not acceptable in a family car. Possibly justifiable in a sports car, but not this. Hyundai/Kia have shown that legacy manufacturers can make efficient EV’s, so it is possible.

    Why is everyone hating on the looks?
    It looks like just a normal SUV/crossover. It's inconspicuous and I prefer it over its competitors for that. If I buy an electric car, I want it to just be a normal car, but electric. Most electric cars end up looking flasshy and are covered in designs to show everyone that you own an eV. I don't want that. I want a normal looking car that doesn't have obnoxious badges and bits of green (I'm looking at you, electric mini), I want it to be normal.

      Most electric cars already look normal. Everyone is hating on the looks because it's straight up an ugly car.

    Great as always and nice to see Olney on screen. Seems a lot for such limited range. Retro fitting ICE chassis’s with EV drivetrains seems to limit cabin space and practicality. You’d think Merc would start from a clean sheet of paper VW ID style, but costs obviously being cut. However, it’s great to see more choice in the EV market, just still outside the price range of most people.

    Other driving channels reckon that the German manufacturers are 7 years behind Telsa..... this dull Merc proves the point. Im not an EV owner but even I can see that there's a chasm to breach before considering a purchase.

    I personally don't mind the lack of a front boot. The added practicality is nice on paper. However, I have a couple of friends with electric cars. One is a tesla model 3 and the other a porsche taycan btw. Both of them concur that the front boot gets used for the first few weeks of ownership, then ignored, as they aren't very practical to use.
    The problem is that opening the front boot is a two step process, and a waste of time. Both also agree that they'd rather have no front boot and would instead rather have a bigger battery

    • @DarcersTech
      @DarcersTech 3 года назад

      Even dropping the front boot doesn’t make it possible to put in a bigger battery. I have a tiny front boot on my BMW i3 and it’s actually very convenient. A great place for the charging cables. Much better than under the false floor - if you have a boot full of stuff, you don’t need to unload it all just to get to your cable...

    Charger only 16amp. No 7.4kw 32amp for UK owners. Same as EQC from 2021. Shown in video too. This really needs to be picked up with UK reviews.

    1.6 miles per kwh is shockingly bad, I was getting 4.5 from my Leaf five years ago, reduced to 3.8 in the winter in heavy traffic with everything switched on.
    I recently had a BMW 330e plug-in, that did 2.5 in electric only mode, and that was while dragging around a heavy i/c engine as dead weight.

    I think the MBUX system looks fantastic and is at the top of it's game, maybe even better than Audi's virtual cockpit. Why can't all companies offer the charging card as it would be so much easier, well done Mercedes

    Great review. But you didn’t say that you were driving the eqA 250 going on the badge on the back, and that there are two more power level models the 300 and 350. Would of been useful to of had info on those.

    I think that , based on conversation I had with a local Mercedes Dealer .
    Mercedes are not convinced that all
    Electric is the only game .
    So they have done some of A class cars
    I think they have an eye on Hydrogen being likely to play more of a Role it does in 2022 / 23.

    I am considering this against a fully option loaded Octavia MHEV. Seeing as I drive long distances for work, though sometimes in stages, the range really puts me off as I'd hate to have to plan my journey around charging rather than enjoying it.
