Rory you forgot the Kia e-Niro as a major rival to this car. It has superior efficiency and range (similar to Tesla Model 3) to the EQA and has 100 litres more boot capacity- and its not even based on Hyundai's/Kia's latest EV tech which is coming this year. Also the e-Niro costs just under £40k for the top spec version. I expect that the fully loaded EQA you were driving costs a lot more than the £40k you quoted for an EQA. If you want an EV with similar interior space to the EQC there's the Hyundai kona which is even cheaper and even more efficient. I'm afraid Mercedes are a generation behind in the EV game
Always watch these auto trader videos and enjoy them. EV is so chicken and egg, the infrastructure in early 2021 is not up to the job for people to buy EV en mass, but without people buying en mass the infrastructure just won’t improve and the cars like this one I think will be an ICE car converted for electricity, I’ll go PHEV now for 2-3 years I think and jump fully in later. 👍🏼
I drive a GLA 250e, and i love the way it handles and drives. i would not change it for an all electric EQA primarily because of the abysmal range. Most of my local driving i do in electric drive anyway, and when I need to travel distance, I get over 300 miles on petrol. I just can't see any benefit in going fully electric, just a lot more hassel with the pathetic charging infrastructure and the time it takes to charge.
The legacy automakers must be dying inside whenever their vehicles are discussed in how they hold up to Tesla cars.. They must be ruing why they rested on their laurels and let an upstart usurp them
Unfortunately that’s not necessarily the case. They argue with regulators, saying that the public aren’t ready for EV’s yet, and then point to dismal sales figures for dross like this. Mercedes have already been through this dance with the B Class EV, which wasn’t a bad car for it’s time. Unfortunately the EQC, and EQA do nothing to move the game on from that 7 year old B Class. The danger with cars like this is that it feeds in to the idea that EV’s don’t have the range. In 2021, less than 2 miles per kWh is just not acceptable in a family car. Possibly justifiable in a sports car, but not this. Hyundai/Kia have shown that legacy manufacturers can make efficient EV’s, so it is possible.
Why is everyone hating on the looks? It looks like just a normal SUV/crossover. It's inconspicuous and I prefer it over its competitors for that. If I buy an electric car, I want it to just be a normal car, but electric. Most electric cars end up looking flasshy and are covered in designs to show everyone that you own an eV. I don't want that. I want a normal looking car that doesn't have obnoxious badges and bits of green (I'm looking at you, electric mini), I want it to be normal.
Great as always and nice to see Olney on screen. Seems a lot for such limited range. Retro fitting ICE chassis’s with EV drivetrains seems to limit cabin space and practicality. You’d think Merc would start from a clean sheet of paper VW ID style, but costs obviously being cut. However, it’s great to see more choice in the EV market, just still outside the price range of most people.
Other driving channels reckon that the German manufacturers are 7 years behind Telsa..... this dull Merc proves the point. Im not an EV owner but even I can see that there's a chasm to breach before considering a purchase.

Even dropping the front boot doesn’t make it possible to put in a bigger battery. I have a tiny front boot on my BMW i3 and it’s actually very convenient. A great place for the charging cables.
