Facts, As a Benz owner I must say this is the most beautiful SUV I’ve seen in years For some reason they aren’t available in Canada. Mini Urus is what I’m calling it 🤣
I live in the states and just got the Q7 AND LOVE IT! Its bigger than this one and handles a corner like its on a rail. I cant imagine what this one will do but he says it doesnt love the corners?? mine does and does it wonderfully. I wish they would bring this one here and maybe with success in other parts of the world the USA market will want it too. Not sure why we wouldnt get it, looks much like the q5 but a little more athletic. I like that it has the 5 cyl engine. RALLY THIS BABY.....
@@bradh7472 i have A q7 2018 and its not that good in the corners compared to something like a sports car or normal sedan but for a SUV its really good in the corners, in this video he meant that the rsq3 has worse handling that say a ford focus rs hot hatch etc, still both are really good cars and serve their purposes really well :)
I bought it when i saw this review. If you haven't still bought it i recommend it to you it's a fast car and a good "daily" eventhough it's quite thirsty but you definitely need another lower sportscar to fill your needs.
The 5-cylinder is an automotive masterpiece in every sense bar consumption. There is a reason most manufacturers opt for a 2 litre (if that) 4 cylinder, it’s fuel efficient. If you drive this In 300bhp+ mode the fuel consumption will make you weep. Having said that: thank you Audi for not killing it off (-yet).
Great review Rory, what Top Gear lost, AutoTrader gained! I test drove this car a few weeks ago (UK), was the exact same spec and colour as this review. Looks more stunning in real life (as a few people said, mini Urus), smaller than you think (which is good), but still spacious inside. Positive: Looks amazing, good space in the back (i'm 6' and i had plenty of room), very comfy throughout, dark unless you go for the sunroof. Engine is great and sounds like an old Quattro rally car, shame they had to remove the down shift pops thanks to crappy EU regulations... The 3D sound system is the best i've ever heard, feel like the sound is in the air, not from the speakers. Loads of options and little detail, such as when you open the door it projects "AUDI Sport" and the 4 rings to the floor, very cool. Negative: Couple of cheap looking plastic bits inside that have no place. As Rory said the gearbox is a little dissappointing, takes a second to kick in to gear, you have to use the paddles to overcome this. Steering is not quite as responsive. Standard suspension hard unless you have the option to soften. But that's about it, not many bad points. Conclusion: I have one on order, just too good. Don't order without the option to change the steering and suspension though, setting the steering to sport and the suspension to soft was perfect. Go for a lighter colour as the detail outside for the RS gets lost on dark cars.
thanks! i am in australia and i am getting either the rsq3, kia stinger gt or something like a guila qv (alfa) and i think that for practicality i will maybe get the rsq3 sportback :) which i can get for about 85,000 aud
So, 2 years later, what's the lowdown? Also, regarding the gearbox, have you thought of getting a software upgrade? I did on my Audi A4 Allroad 252hp and it's shockingly better.
I have a 2019 RS3 8v (US sedan), same color actually...absolutely love it. Don't be fooled by the power numbers. The DCT + light weight absolutely MAKE this car. The sedan also has deceptively lots of room, so he's telling the truth about this suv having plenty of room. I loaded up my sedan with 2 other adults + 10 year old for a vacation, no problem with everything comfortable. The reviewer in this video doesn't understand that the paddles will over ride the computer instantaneously (think PDK). The delay is like a nanny and circumvented by dropping down a gear. Also, anyone with an Audi that has a DCT should always drive in Dynamic + Sport, or there's no point to this car. Forget every other drive mode unless you setup Individual settings to replicate minus exhaust note. He also doesn't mention that you need to cycle drive modes to get the full exhaust note due to new emissions test protection standards. The DCT with Dynamic, Sport mode set will also save your brakes. The car has no paddle input lag and will downshift just as fast as it upshifts. So won't look like an idiot riding your brakes after quick bursts of acceleration in traffic. I can't stress enough how good it is, especially for anyone commuting in rush hour traffic to get around imbeciles leaving huge gaps in traffic in the left lane. One other thing - add Audicare if you buy anything with the 5cyl engine. Otherwise out of pocket oil changes at Audi will cost you $250 each. Every dealer will throw this in for free if you just ask. Pricing is very negotiable as well if you find one on a high volume dealer lot (for RS models). I netted a 10% discount (before rebates, trade) on a brand new, full loaded 2019 RS3 with free Audicare because it was the lot.
I have parked small hatchbacks and found dings in them, the few times I drove an SUV in the UK, I was parked well away from other cars. I can only imagine parking a Q7 or Q8 in an emergency... would probably just pay the pcn instead....
I dont know what this guy is talking about the dual clutch being slow to downshift. This has the same dual clutch as the RS3 and that is lightning fast (having driven it myself). Audi's S tronic transmission are one of the best in the business for comfort, shift times and performance.
The only reason reviews will say it's slower to change gear than others is cus they're driving loads of different cars all the time and ones with even quicker gearboxes, so they'll be more likely to feel it being slower
Just watched this video and the f type video. Your passion, your voice, whoever is behind the camera and the blacked out versions of these cars that you're getting. Spot on beautiful
Heard a lot about the DSG/S-TRONIC gearbox feeling a bit sluggish sometimes or delayed in response. It actually only happens in ECO mode and that’s because it is programmed to delay the throttle response by time in ECO mode. Even manual Volkswagen group cars with ECO mode do it.
What do you mean eco mode? D? So if I put it in S will it be more responsive? D definitely feels sluggish. Drives in 2nd gear when I want 3rd, when I want it to shift down and go off, it won't, even if I press hard on the acceleration. I don't drive in S much so I cannot comment. I also have a manual VW, I find more joy in it than driving the Audi DSG S tronic
@@realkewlmann D and S are drive and sport modes that can be changed using gearstick. Eco mode is normally in the drive menu and is changed through the infortainment system.
Rubbish. Can be hesitant in any mode. I've had in the last five years, TTS, TTRS, RS4 and now new RS3. All were a bit clunky at slow speeds and suffered from a sluggish pick up. Just use the paddles, problem solved.
Picked this car up yesterday because of this review.... it is pretty sensational considering its a small SUV. I love in London so power and build is perfect for getting around
@DragoyDinev i have one and its not too load. Its roars without the bangs and pops. When switching to RS mode its magic! It goes slightly louder but in the the car it deepens the sound and gets to business. You definitely know when it is engaged as the 5cyl valves opens up.
You're ABSOLUTELY correct!! I bought my Q3 specifically because it fits my smaller than usual garage. Unfortunately, the RSQ3 isn't available in the States. But I love my Q3...maybe I'll upgrade to the RSQ3 when it finally come across the DAMN POND!! 🖖😎
Nice review, you’ve convinced me to give the idea of a genuinely sporty SUV a go, I think it actually the in vogue avant basically. Why be a snob, looks cool!
Awesome review, as usual. And what I find completely wrong from a marketing perspective, Audi thinks this is too small for America, which is an absurd corporate mistake. This would go down really well in the US. Not all of us (OK, I'm a Brit living in Colorado) need a nasty Cadillac. Just look at say, a Jeep Cherokee, not even a Grand Cherokee. This would be perfect over here, yet Audi seems to think there is not enough demand for this size of SUV. I reckon they've got it wrong.
I’m so frustrated by the complaints of people with down shifts on duel clutch transmissions in auto mode. The reason there is hesitation is because based on throttle position it has to select not only a gear but a clutch. The fact that you dismiss the ohhh, you can use the paddles misses the point. This is a manual with an automatic setting not a automatic with a manual setting. I have a car with DSG and yes ask for 3/4 throttle and it makes it think... but if I as the driver anticipate a turn or change in need of acceleration I put the car in manual mode and as fast as I flick my fingers the car reacts. If I give it 3 fast clicks to down shift the car is instantly there. The reason is that it knows I asked for 3 down shifts and executed them perfectly. When driving at normal pace and you give it a big boot the computer is trying to compensate for the average driver that wants more but not 3 gears. The issue is once you apply say 3/4 throttle the computer is also trying to figure if you meant 1/2 or full throttle. The average luxury SUV buyer doesn’t know this and prob went from a sub 200hp car to this. If you want to pass anticipate, grab however many downshifts you want and go. Otherwise just get a normal q3.
Just get a 2017 Q5 and tune it. 430 HP, 184 mph top speed and doesn’t cost 50k and bulletproof 3.0T Supercharged and ZF8 trans. Also Q5 isn’t big at all. Q7 is big.

This fine car bears homage to the Ford Focus Mk3RS as does the AMG 45.
Well done Tyrone Johnson, Raj Nair and others.
Didn’t show any of the 5 cylinder engine sound. Had to go to another channel to find out what the exhaust sounds like.
Nice review man...manual not available for this one? Colors available?
