I'm torn. There is an Asus Zenbook 14 OLED with the same new Intel Ultra 7 155H chip and practically identical remaining specs to this, and at the same price point. MSI's advantages are wifi 7 (Asus is wifi 6e) and an SD card reader. But early reports on the Asus seem like it might have better build quality and has spec'd their screen at 0.2ms response time. Haven't found MSI's screen info outside of resolution and nits. So at the same price, which would you go for?
@@Hubwood I actually pulled the trigger on the Asus. Didn't realize when I posted that comment that this MSI Prestige 13 has a 60hz screen. Asus is 120hz. I'll give up the micro SD card reader and newer wifi 7 chip for the better screen any day. That said, I did hear the thermals run hotter on Asus, so hopefully that doesn't mean throttling, but I'm about to find out regardless.
@@sirarthur91 Apparently the 155H runs hot and that's "normal". I get sketched out when I see a chip pinning 90c+, but apparently the thermal ceiling for this chipset is 110c. Desktop people probably lose their minds seeing average temps that high. And it does get noticeably hot if actually using it on your lap. Not as much from the keyboard though, which is good. I maxed out the fan curves to try to fight this as best I can, so it can get loud under load. But I haven't see throttling yet. Although, I also don't do much sustained computing, so I don't think I'm the best person to ask.
My first MSI laptop was not fortunate with replaced mainboard on warranty, and second and last was MSI Prestige laptop was on 8th gen i7 U processor. It was surprisingly slow and worked much more efficient on charger, what caused main issue without any software for battery saving (e.g. charging to max 60% when mostly on charger), battery wear was on 30% after 1,5 year of using. I'm really wondering if MSI did their homework for that points. Because you didn't mention about that, I need to ask.
I would like to add. My experience with MSI build quality is disappointing. I have a modern 15 1165g7 version, it has HDMI and keyboard problem. Definitely staying away, especially after watching this.
2:24 ???? 😳 Waited for your MTL review and it didn't disappoint! This checks all the boxes for an ultrabook content creation machine (ahem AMD, maybe pair HawkPoint without dGPUs). The fact that you got a weird MSI issue still seems to me MSI is cursed in some sort of way, as per my experiences with MSI laptops. The 20W issue is definitely weird, while not a testament to your review, I still feel MTL reviews aren't 'complete' as in it still really isn't consistent across the board. This primarily may be because Intel was premature in their execution trying to release in (very late Q4) 2023. While maybe getting another unit is better for gaming comparisons, do you think it's worth the wait for more mature drivers/bios updates? Cuz unless a driver update has noticeable perf improvements, I feel like across reviews, expectations of perf for MTL will be different if data always changes. Also if you compare it with the 780m, I trust you pairing it with similar ram because so far it's really hard to find a review that does just that lol
