I’m happy we finally got the JCVD review back for Sudden Death. Been dying to see that review again for years.

@@reneperez7903 I can’t speak for hard target, but both of them recommended sudden death. While I do like hard target, the movie is a little bit too flashy to be taken seriously. Sudden Death is just a really good diehard knock off.

@@johnf198207 I give the edge to Sudden Death cuz I enjoyed seeing Van Damme do something different he got to play a goalie no one expected that, he fought the penguins mascot in the kitchen fresh for him the sequences worked a lil more than hard target even though I marginally recommend both.

Thanks again so much for the upload!! Since i was 16 when this episode came out, I only cared about "Sudden Death" and "Grumpier Old Men" because who doesn't love two old guys insulting each other?
Once I got older, I finally saw "Dead Man Walking", and my God, that movie is so powerful. How did it not get nominated for Best Picture? I think it was better than the other 5 nominees - Braveheart is epic, but Dead Man Walking is sublime.

My only problem with Dead Man Walking is the very end SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER, when Sean Penn gives a tearful speech and is put in a crucifixion pose as he's executed. Like Liam Neeson collapsing in tears at the end of Schindler's List, it's an unnecessary piece of mawkishness preceding an extraordinarily powerful two hours of uncompromising drama.

@@KRhetor it is a valid criticism, Penn does go a little over-the-top at the end but the rest of the movie is so good that it doesn't bother me. That's one reason I'm glad Nicholas Cage won the Oscar for best actor.

I actually see Grumpy old men and Grumpier old men as one long good movie. How could you not like it? If Matthau & Lemmon would be alive now in 2024 Grumpy old men would be a successful sitcom on Netflix, mark my words.

In this week, we follow up with the cast of Thelma & Louise. One actress goes on to Oscar gold and the other cast member sees her career go down.

My only problem with Dead Man Walking is the very end, when they put Sean Penn in a Jesus Christ pose and he gives a teary speech to his executioners. Fortunately, it didn't ruin a powerfully made and acted film.

I liked Grumpier Old Men more than the original too. They were wrong about the movie but so right about Burgess Meredith. Spectacularly funny performance. Dead Man Walking is incredibly powerful, top 5 of that year to me. Sudden Death is fun too.

i didnt know sudden death even existed and i thought i saw most of a Van damme's movies. Retrospectively, especially taking in mind the movie desert of 2010s to today, Van Damme was a damn good 90s action hero. Not at the level of Sly Willis or Arnie, but i can watch a lot of his movies in a guilt free afternoon fun with the guys. Even the cheesiness of the dialogue adds to their appeal.

Dead Man Walking.. I know when I'm looking for moral guidance I look to Hollywood.

  • @maskedmarvyl4774

Dead Man Walking was repulsive on every level.
The air-headed Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and the abrasive Sean Penn are all anti-death penalty activists who take the side of a sadistic rapist and murderer who they portray sympathetically, while giving minimal acknowledgement of the victims and their families. If you had a family member who was kidnapped, raped and murdered, imagine how that portrayal would hit you.
The movie is sickening in that regard.
By the way, Susan Sarandon and Norman Mailer teamed up to get a convicted murderer paroled simply because he wrote a popular book while in prison. The first thing he when released was to murder a waiter at a restaurant because they didn't have a restaurant for customers. No, Im not kidding..
Norman Mailer acknowledged that he made a mistake in advocating for his release. Susan Sarandon never did. So much for her moral nobility.

    Thanks for this!
    Dead Man Walking - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏾
Sarandon and Penn are heartbreaking. Tim Robbins did an extraordinary job.
    Cutthroat Island - ⭐️⭐️ 👎🏾
The fact that it bankrupted a studio aside, it’s a lousy movie regardless. Geena Davis is way too contemporary for a period pirate movie.
    Waiting to Exhale - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏾
A ‘90s juggernaut with four appealing actresses in a glossy and soapy film that is entertaining.
    Sudden Death - ⭐️⭐️ 1/2 👎🏾
I disagree with Gene. Powers Boothe is fun, Van Damme is ok, but the plot is well worn territory.
    Grumpier Old Men - ⭐️⭐️ 1/2 👎🏾
Lemmon and Matthau are ok. The only thing that worked for me was the love between Matthau and Sophia Loren.
    Restoration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏾
RDJ and the sumptuous art direction carries the film

@@ThatOldTVThat is much appreciated, I just watched their review of Restoration and I was intrigued by their discussion on Robert Downey Jr. though Gene sadly never lived to see his career took off though I am grateful that Downey Jr. was able to redeem his career after years of off-screen drama and legal troubles.
