Great video! The easiest way to tell a 32 from a 30 is look at the price on the bill of sale-if under $20k, it’s a 30, if over $1billion-it’s a 32!
thank you for not hot-rodding the green rooster. it's so beautiful as it is. that being said... Matt, Mike and Steve you all are doing great work.
Comprehensive tutorial for the uninitiated, Matt. I think you got it all, covered.
Thanks guys taught old dog something new about 29-31 model A & 32 model B differents love my Fords/Merc's so always checking them out
Thank you Matt and Mike for sharing this information with me ! I've learned a lot from this video about the difference between 30 - 31 and 32 , 5 window coupe !
I noticed the door hinges were in different places and it looks like the depth of the cowl front to back is different also. Good video. I enjoyed it. I also noticed no windshield wipers. A guy in North Carolina had to put one on his hot rod because he couldn't register it and get a license plate without it.
I enjoyed this so much I’m going to watch it again.
My brain is swoopy from them beers yesterday
Those two are your coolest cars.
Thanks for all your videos. I’ve learned a lot from watching you guys.
I inherited my pops 30 in 2022. He had it since he was 14 and passed at 78. I wish I had the time, space and skill to get the body all lined up properly. I want to keep it as he wanted it with full fenders.
Great break down of the differences! Go Irn Trap, keep moving forward!
Thankyou Matt. Good informative segment. You do so much YT stuff when do you find time to work on the cars ? 🤭👍 Hey to everyone and Moon too ! 🐾🐕🐾
Interesting transition period for Ford , & probably all makes , at that time . Very informative , Matt & Mike !
Nice job! I like your lessons. Deuce coupe FTW! 🔥
Great comparison video, I didn't realize all the differences. Next car show will be fun to check them out up close.
Hey, Matt! I love your expert commentary and you are much more knowledgeable of these early Fords than I.
Still I would like to add the following:
You are very correct about the Model A and the '32 5-Window being more different they are alike! I have always seen the '32 as a "logical evolutional" step in Ford automobile body/frame/suspension design and engineering with the '33-'34 Model 40 being another evolutionary step as is '35-36 and the '37-'40. (JMHO, of course.)
The rear windows on the Model A Coupe and the '32 5-Window Coupe are completely different, too. Model A is slightly larger and the corners are square where the '32 has very pronounced rounded corners at the top and lesser rounded corners at the bottom. Also, the width of the steel at the top of the '32 above the windshield is wider and more rounded than the Model A.
The 32 never had a visor .Talking about how to count the windows ,you never count the windshield just for thoughs that don't know. 😊😊That roadster is beautiful. Love the colors inside and out.
Interesting episode. The slanted windshield on the 32 must improve the night driving experience compared to the Model A. I remember with my Model A how the light from the headlights from cars behind me would reflect off the windshield in my face.
Really like these comparison videos
34 ford V8 pickup sitting next to me has a windshield visor and straight swing out windshield hinges.
A very enjoyable discussion with suitable visuals. Thanks!
Moon Dog knows more about Fords
Than most of US !
Dude!! Thanks for the schooling!!! great video!!!✌️
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to show and explain the differences between the year models.
Thanks a lot guys, 32 ford parts prices are about to skyrocket now 😅
great content here! Iron Trap Garage, for the hot rodder coinsurer.
Great quick video on what common things to look for between the models. My opinion (probably controversial) has always been that the 32 Ford was the final perfection of the Model A design. But also a transition model that was used to try out new manufacturing, styling and assembly processes. Having worked for Ford Engineering 38 years that is a very typical thought process. Stamped and painted grille shells is a perfect example of a change in process and materials used. The moving of the gas tank fore shadows what was to come for the future. A lot of other cues you mentioned are very purposeful changes to reduce cost and still add some styling. The 1932 Model B was the car equipped with the standard 4 cylinder engine. A 1932 with the new optional Flathead V8 was designated as the Model 18.
When I was a sophomore in high school (67-68), my neighbor restored a ‘29 Model A. He was a senior and occasionally I’d get a ride to school. That was a 38 year old car back then. A 38 year old car today would be a 1986. Guess the Fox Body Mustangs are the Model As of today. My current “project” is a 1984 Jeep CJ7. And now cars have returned to push button starters…
It’s funny how things go full circle
Great insight guys, thanks!
Awesome video, MIKE and MATT, learn a ton, right there!!!
Thanks for a great video. It's always good to learn the little stuff. I have always looked at the smooth and curved parts of the upper body to pick out a '32. It just jumps out at you coupled with the iconic '32 grill.
I love ‘em both but a model A coupe on ‘32 rails is a tough looking rod.
Excellent show today! Extremely informative!! 😁
Great info, thanks 👍🏻
I’d like to see a 33 vs 34 comparison if you can one day
Awesome info!!
I was taught that the easiest way to also tell a 28/29 A body from a 30/31 A body is the cowl area.
28/29 has the cowl to A pillar area that's basically like a vertical piece of square tube whereas the 30/31 has it blended to meet the doors like a 32.
Hope this helps others ID them.
Interesting stuff. I never knew the '32 sold (relatively) poorly. Being in the depths of the Great Depression can't have helped it. I'm hoping, one day, you decide to redo the '32 hot rod in that pale green paint we can see remnants of. That fantastic interior would match it well.
Chevrolet was outselling Ford there for a couple years, even during the run of the model A.
As always. Love the channel & comtent...but there is a reason " some people " night say 5 window model a coupe...the " sport coupe " model a is technically a 3 window...never as popular by hot rodders etc as an 3 window 32, 33- 34 ford couoe..but they do exist..& in all fairness the model a or 32 ford 3 window wasn't brought up l believe in this episode? ..otherwise..thanks 4 the great content 😉👍
Good information
I have a 31 Victoria. Some of the body styling on the first year Victoria crossed over to the 32. The Victoria has wider doors, slanted windshield, and the doors don’t over lap the body. Also, no visor.
Enjoyed the video. How about a video of the differences between 28-29 A's and 30-31 A's?
Thanx great stuff!!!
great ep learned so much!
great video
Interesting.!
Great info Matt very interesting & helpful. Greetings from sth Australia 🇦🇺 👍 🦘🐨🐪🪃
Nerdy comments from across the pond. We had our own '32 saloons (sedans) with suicide doors (nobody knows why because they are overall a very old fashioned staid design). Perhaps the English weren't ready for "swoopy" yet. Amongst various other differences which is beyond reason is that the hood sides still have the raised edge to the louvres just like good old Model A
Matt, I know a parts guy that has door handles for 5 window Model A's.
I used to have people tell me im looking for a 30 - 32 coupe project ,and id ask well which one are you looking for and theyd say whats the difference and id tell them about $10k but thats been a good while back cant even use that anymore
How about covering the difference between a model 18 and a model B in a 1932?
Way to tell an early model '31 model A from the last ones made in the '31 model year is the firewall.. the late '31's had an indentation where the fuel bowl is on the passenger side.
gas fill on the front cowl under windshield, and windshield surround size. Grille usually tells you but theres not all that many left of those on hot rods, stock ones its easier
Will you be at Carlisle for the all Fprd Nationals.?
Is there a one piece firewall for a 29 4 door Murray
sedan. ?
Nice tips. Thanks.

Is there a way to tell (with just the coupe body) if I have a 30 or 31? It is getting close to time to register my car, and it’s a real hodge-podge of parts. I have a Model A coupe body on a 32 frame with 40 suspension with a 32 grill and 32 dash. I don’t know how to register it-30or 31! I think the firewall is original-any distinctive features there I can consider?
31 has a recessed area where the fuel valve goes.
Um sonho de consumo - mas aqui no Brasil é praticamente impossível montar um carro assim.
Why is that??
What was the reason that ford did both a three window and five window coupe from 32? I presume there's little size difference inside?
Style and size.
Model A needs Ls on gaseous hydrogen so it's clean & green except for the tyre smoke....greetings from sth Australia 🇦🇺 👍 🦘🐨🐪🪃
But Matt, what about the difference between the 1930 3 window versus the 5 window coupe?
Do you mean ‘32 three window vs. ‘32 five window coupes” since there were no ‘30 five window coupes.
😊
Remember that *ALL* Model A coupes were all the same, meaning there was no such thing as a THREE window Model A coupe but there was a '32 3 window coupe. So, it goes without saying. Show me *ONE* Model A 3 window coupe!!!
Now imagine real picking where studebaker, paige, Cadillac, Buick, Chevy, Pontiac, Hudson, , etc parts are laying there as well.
You didn’t elaborate that the windshield isn’t counted when designating 3 or 5 windows.
🤓🤓🤓
But Matt, what if my Model A is a sport coupe?😅
I bet there’s more 1932 fords that now exist that have had their tops ruined (chopped) than those that are not chopped. In other words it’s easier to find a chopped 1932 ford than an un chopped 1932 ford
Chopping a 32' is like chopping the Mona Lisa painting! Stock top/roof is beautiful!
Is that model B 4cyl engine for sale?
We have a stock one for sale.
The franes are completely different
Their were two coupes in the model A . Their was a 5 window coupe. And a sport coupe which was a converterabile. Just saying same doors
Crazy how Ford kept the "basic" body features on the truck, like the lipped doors , and visor. Not that crazy I guess, they would want less surprises for a work truck.
Considering the state of the country-3 years into the Depression-I’m not surprised at the poor sales.
How much of the information you give us does your dog retain? She or he seems interested.
Nice video. Laid?
No, ya forgot blah blah blah blabbity blabbity blah, etc. Thank you for a great vid....
It’d be easier to spot the difference if 99% of the A’s weren’t sporting a ‘32 grille shell.
(Back in the day...) "Got any '32 Ford radiator grills & shells in your yard? Nppe, the A guys bought them all!
Make that Nope. Me eyesite aint like it usta be!
But they don't look the same
wauw.... 😊
