    At 18:23 you can't push the Dark Elf off the field as he still has a square on the field where he could be pushed to. Would another player stood behind so that this square would be filled, than he could be pushed off the field. And this mistake changed everything in this game as the Khorne Krushers might not have got the ball.
    At 50:21 the push off the field was correct.

    Steve, man, you've gotta play to the strength of your team. Elves, as you say, are "zippy fast" - lining up all your guys in direct contact with a bruising team like chaos gives them a maximum number of chances to hurt your guys. Ideally you'd want to line as few of your duders up at the line of scrimmage in an enemy tackle zone as possible - thus minimizing the damage to your team. Remember, he can only do a single blitz action a turn, meaning if he has to move TO your army, there's not a whole lot he can do to hurt you. This includes following up after successful pushes - you don't want to end your turn (as an elf) inside an enemy tackle zone - push them away, and stay back - this gives your mobile team more chances to stay alive, and move the ball. I've only played the bloodbowl game on the PC, but i have a basic grasp of the tactics - i hope this helps.

      +Tazacks totally right, watched all those linemen in the scremeage zone and totally knew it was gona end badly. You just want the three mandatory linemen and thats it. Plus purchasing the 4 blitzers is almost a must.

      Dark Elves like to play the running game though so it's in character if not tactically sound.

    I assume you are using LRB6.
    14:47 Steve wasn't allowed to choose the direction of the chainpush (page 10, push backs)
    18:18 Illegal crowd surf (page 10, push backs)
    44:55 Thats a throw in, the last square crossed before the ball goes off is the reentry point (page 13, throw ins) - you played it out correct
    You guys did an exceptional job with block assists and tackle zones considering it was your first game :D

      Yeah, Push Back rules state you MUST push a player to an empty square if possible, so Runner should not have been knocked off the field at 18:18, and no turner over would have occurred.

      Excellent first game. One thing I noticed (which I'm assuming/hoping the MWG guys know), Matt mentions at the beginning of the game that they aren't using inducements due to not having enough gp in their treasuries. But differences in Team Value determine inducement amounts (ie Team Value 1300 vs Team Value 1000=300,000gp inducements for the team with lower value). Extra GP in treasury can be added to the difference as "Petty Cash," if I'm not mistaken. These are both starting rosters, so inducements aren't really an issue, but definitely worth noting.

    55:57 It was supposed to be a one-die block. The Chaos Warrior was assisting for the defense, making the defensive strength four. The Dark Elf on the edge of the pitch was assisting in favor of the attacker, making the offensive strength four. In simpler terms, I think you forgot about the Chaos Warrior's assist.

    9 mins in but I just couldn't contain myself any further:
    1. Don't set up on the line in the endzones when you are kicking OR attacking (due to pesky move Kick Off results)
    2. MOVE everything safe to move first, THEN throw 2D blocks, THEN 1D blocks! THEN think about picking up the ball.
    2b. Exception to the above: Gamewinning Super Moves when that gobbo needs to make four dodges, pick the ball up in 6 tackle zones and then get thrown down the pitch by your troll into the end zone. Always do suicide moves like this first - it's what the game is made for!
    3. Block is king, go for those 1D blocks / blitzes. 3 in 6 chance to knock an non block player over, only 1 in 6 of knocking self over.
    4. Foul. Anything, everything, always. Especially skinks and wardancers.
    5. With M5 S4 Ag3 Chaos Warriors are one of the best ball carriers out there.
    6. Anything with Ag3 can make a good short pass.
    7. All Elves are amazing throwers. So if you have the ball get 2 - 3 players into the opponent's half so that they have to mark them - this will relieve pressure on your ball carrier.
    8. Ag4 means 2+ rolls for most things. Throwing and catching are easy. Dodging and picking up the ball will fail. Constantly and consistently. Sure hands and Dodge are your friends.
    9. Foul.
    10. Don't showboat. If you can easily get a Touch Down get the Touch Down and don't mess around with 3D blocks or anything else. You WILL roll and re-roll triple skullz and then your opponent will cripple your ball carrier off the pitch.
    11. Bloodweiser Babes are always worth taking.
    *Cracks Neck*
    12. Don't stand on the edge of the pitch without Side Step.
    13. DON'T STAND ON THE EDGE OF THE PITCH.
    14. If your opponent is standing on the edge of the pitch, surf him off. In a league this is often more important than scoring and is the only exception to #10.
    15. Ag3 dodges better than Ag4. Ag2 doesn't.
    16. Did you remember to foul this turn?
    17. With upgrades always take a stat increase over a double skill unless you are a big guy. Then get block.
    18. Side Step is an amazing skill on a stunty.
    19. Wrestle is a great skill for a lineman.
    20. At least 2 players need tackle. If you persist in only having it on one player Nuffle (all praise His name) WILL bless you with the death of that player.
    21. If you have no moves left, see if you can get a good gang foul in. If not, you must have done something wrong.
    22. If they have Dodge get them Block, if they have Block get them Dodge, if they have both get them Tackle. If they have Tackle get them Mighty Blow.
    22b. Then go kill some stunties.
    23. Get a lineman with kick.
    24. Get a catcher with Pass Block.
    25. Get a Dirty Player.
    25b. Use it. Constantly.
    25c. Get him Mighty Blow as well. Hell, why not?
    26. Piling On is hilarious.
    27. Sure Feet aren't.
    28. Crowd Surfing is not the act of pushing someone into the fans. Crowd surfing is arranging a block so that the push back pushes another player who pushes another player who pushes the ball carrier into range of the End Zone / 22's fists.
    29. Apothecary's are your friends. Start with them or save enough cash with your initial team to buy one after Game 1.
    30. Having a player off the pitch is a wonderful thing. It means they can't be killed or badly injured! KO's are good - they are safe for this drive. Badly Hurt is amazing! They are safe for the rest of the match! MNG is great - they are safe for the next game as well! -Mv is not bad on anything except someone with Mv3. -Ag is only bad on dodgers. -S & -Av is instant retirement. A niggling injury should be instant retirement.
    31. Get a wizard for finals. Or if you have too much spare cash. Or if you just plain don't like your opponent.
    32. Always set up with Pitch Invasion in mind.
    33. Always set up with Quick Snap in mind.
    34. Always set up with Blitz! in mind.
    35. If you CAN have stunties take at least one. Love them, Nurture them, throw them to the squigs the moment they get an injury.
    36. If they haven't got an injury have the troll throw them at the enemy thrower. It doesn't particularly matter if they have the ball.
    36b. It doesn't particularly matter if the stuntie has the ball either.
    37. Foul those fecking Skinks.
    38. Foul those fecking Gutter Runners.
    39. Foul those fecking Blodgers.
    40. Foul that fecking Big Guy.
    41. Foul that fecking Lineman. Because Feck him, that's why.
    42. There is no God but Nuffle, He is the 1 and the 6, The Skull and the Pow, Knows nothing of mercy, But loves a good Foul.
    42b. And Shadow is His prophet.

  • @wappe123
    @wappe123 8 лет назад +2

    I love it!
    Lets start the tutorial comments with kick off placements. One really big part about BB is to deny your opponent good blocking opportunity. If you put all your people at the line of scrimmage when you don't have the first turn (if you are kicking off) your opponent will have every opportunity to put his people in perfect position next to your guys at the line of scrimmage and then usually knock your entire team down with two dice blocks.
    So basically the "noob rule" say: 'Never put more than the minimum players allowed at the line of scrimmage, if you are not the reciever'.
    It's a big big deal for squishy teams like elves, becuase the whole strategy is usually to avoid your opponent. Exceptions to the rule exists and you can try to overwhelm the other team with higher str guys. So when Matt did it it actually kind of paid off, however if Steve were a more experienced player it probably wouldn't! You guys might as well stand a couple of squares behind the line and still do the same denying of space on the field.

  • @davidmichael4014
    @davidmichael4014 8 лет назад +1

    I didn't see this in the comments but some basic strats I use are as follows... Order of turn
    1) always do safe moves first (ones without needing dice rolls)
    2) then block with those with 2 dice and with block.
    3) then risky moves (blocking without block, picking up the ball, throwing, handing off, going for it ect.)
    4) if needed do desperate moves (blocking with one dice or less, doing moves at 3+ without rerolls, fouling). Remember, standing models are larger obstacles than prone ones.
    Steve: In my experience Dark Elves are a challenge to play. The only way I've been successful with them is to keep my models away from the other team preventing them from easy blocking. This way they will only get one blitz to knock your duders down. Once they close in, simply choose easy targets to knock down, then float away. Also, your witch elves are masters at knocking models into the audience with their frenzy.
    Hope this helps gang =D

    @44:44 yes the ball counts as out of bounds CRP1 page 13 Thrown-ins.
    "When the ball scatters or bounces off the pitch it is immediately thrown back in by the eager spectators!"
    Yes I can see why you might not think this applies until the full scatter has been processed, but this is not how its played by the BB community. You could also consider there are not squares off the pitch from which to continue scattering

    18:45 you had the throw in correct the first time and the dark elf should have had the chance to catch it. Here is the rule on how to use the throwin template as it is presented in the omitted page 3 that the rules ask you to reference.
    Throw-in Template: In Blood Bowl the ball is thrown back onto the pitch by the enthusiastic crowd if it ever goes out of bounds. The Throw-in template is used to determine where the ball ends up when it is thrown back in. To use the Throw- in template, position the square marked with the ball over the last square the ball crossed before going off, with the centre arrow (the one marked 3-4) pointing towards the opposite sideline. Roll one D6. The result will show the direction the ball travels in. Then simply roll two D6 to see how many squares the ball will travel in that direction, counting from the square marked with the ball as the first square.

  • @Duhad8
    @Duhad8 8 лет назад +3

    Useful trick for the defensive team set up, leave a dude back in case someone manages to get past your line with the ball and goes for a long-pass catch.
    For the Offense, never leave the line unsecured. If they have to block you to get at your ball carrier then they have to roll dice. If they have to roll dice they have a chance of screwing up and ending their turn.
    Also Pro Tip: Unless they changed the rule so you have to block-move-block-move, THEN ALWAYS MAKE ALL YOUR MOVES FIRST! Take no chases with Nuffel, for he is a wrathful dice god and will smite you with snake eyes if your try to relay on his kindness.

    OK. LOOK PAY ATTENTION TO THIS IT WILL HELP YOU.
    Blood Bowl strategy is all about mitigating your odds of a turnover. So always, always, always do things in this order.
    1st protect the ball by getting at least one tackle zone on it.
    2nd do all actions that don't require a dice roll. Like moving without go for its. Standing up players etc ...
    3rd do all 3 dice or 2 dice blocks and passes or handoffs.
    4th do blocks with big guys or anyone else who can't automatically use a re-roll
    5th and last do all 1 dice blocks but only if your blocker has the block skill.
    Amongst these actions you should be trying to move the ball forward.
    When to dodge is a bit more tricky and I cant say there are any hard or fast rules for it.
    Rules are slightly different for elves as they should be dodging more than blocking to move the ball.

    Is it typical to have a round robin match setup? Meaning that each team only plays 2 matches before going into a knock out stage till a final? Unless I heard wrong.
    Just seems that is a low number of matches for teams, assuming you want teams to level up more by having more matches. Maybe I haven't played the table top game in a long time and just assumed the mechanics are similar to the pc game.

    • @miniwargaming
      @miniwargaming  8 лет назад +2

      It definitely is a low number. However, for recording purposes we had to limit our games. Our first season couldn't be a long one, as we are experimenting with it (and just don't have the time to film all those games).

      a round robin woudl mean they each play 4 games before the playoffs

    • @silentblacklist
      @silentblacklist 8 лет назад +1

      As a league comissioner over at FUMBBL, it's typical to do round robins, although league sizes are usually around 8-10 teams per division with most leagues either having playoffs between divisions, or an Euro Footy promotion/relegation system. However it should be noted most leagues are long haul, which means you can keep your team for following seasons.
      Also the PC game and the tabletop are 1:1, except one or two rule adjustments in the latest PC adaption (stadium enhancements, player retirements after a hundred games or so on average, and the bank rule are the only differences).
      For such a low number of teams, I'd actually reccomend a double round robin.

  • @thetrudster4108
    @thetrudster4108 8 лет назад

    I would advise to set up only 3 guys directly on the center line and all others at least one space back from it when kicking. That way, you force your opponent to move to engage your guys during their first turn, eliminating lots of free easy blocks. It's especially important with teams that lack blocking skills/strength. You can even use high agility guys as reliable buffer by dodging back one space instead of trying a block on an enemy who just engaged. The key is to keep your guys up so they can use their mobility to assist key plays when needed.
    Of course, your 3 lonely guys might get a beating fist hand, and your opponent will blitz at some point, but you'll still have around 6 guys standing instead of all of them lying on the ground, at the very best.
    Also, push enemies towards sidelines as often as possible. Eventually, your opponent might have to leave his guys lying down instead of risking to be pushed in the crowd.

    You can't push a guy off the field if you have an empty square to push him into, in order to push him off you have to have all of the empty squares to which you can push filled.

      They might have, they did update the rules awhile back.

    24:30 concerning the riot. The receiving team HAD taken a turn this half, (it was his turn 3-4) so whether or not the clock moved forward or back still needed to be determined by a die roll. (LRB pg 18)

    brawling with dark elves like a champ. Blitzer as a name for a player isnt a coincidence steve. Dont put them on the line unless you can win the brawl. You use them to force plays by making sure you use them to do the blocks you need to win at the start of the turn, making sure the chance of a bad luck turn over is smaller. Youre playing dark elves and youre rolling to much dice :P

  • @chadduvall8875
    @chadduvall8875 7 лет назад

    Some strategic advice for Steve (and all coaches who play dodgy, low armor teams): Make the bashy teams work for that blitz! Try to keep your players out of enemy tackle zones as much as you can. Use "screening" (spread your players wide around the ball carrier) to protect your runner. You can really slow those heavy teams down by screening on defense as well.

    • @chadduvall8875
      @chadduvall8875 7 лет назад

      Remember: the more free players you have (players not in enemy tackle zones), the more advantage you have when it comes to sneaking a player across the Line of Scrimmage, setting up a useful blitz, and ganging up on threats! Mobility is key for elves.

    Firstly i would say the illegal procedure rule has to be agreed on by both players at the start of the game, it isnt a default rule. After that your setups are very poor, the team that kicks never wants to place more then 3 players on the line as the receiving team can match you and ensure he gets assists, essentially gaining a massive advantage by being able to get favourable blocks on each player. Also steve has a frenzy player (witch elf) and you placed your beastmen near the edge of the pitch, very easy to engineer a surf.

  • @redbeardboss

    the frenzied player is performing a Blitz Action then he must pay a
    square of Movement and must make the second block unless he has no
    further normal movement and cannot go for it again. " So should have rolled a 2nd go for it for the second block.

    42:55 The scatter has to be thrown after the kickoff event, Steve should have moved his Which before that. So it is possible for the kicking Team to get one Figure to the Ball and catch it.
    44:52 the ball scatters seperatly and on Page 13 is mentioned, that the ball immediately get's thrown in, when it get's out of the pitch. So that would be an throw in in my oppinion.
    At all throw-ins you place the Ball one square to far, because the first square counts, too.
    46:10 Steve have to roll a go for it for the second Block of the Which.
    56:03 and 1:06:53 Steve should have thrown only one Die for the Block, because the Beastman get's an assist from the Chaoswarrior.
    1:01:47 the action of the Chaoswarrior is a Blitz, because he moved when he stands up. To make a block out of a proneposition you need jump up at that needs a Roll on agility with a +2 modifier.
    1:05:47 an 8 is a K.O.
    Nice game.

    So, great video, I'm a long time blood bowl player and man those poor dark elves. Don't get shy about dodging away from folks with DE. They have agi 4 for a reason. Never try to bash a bashing team with elves. On offense, and heck even defense for that matter, always try and limit the number of blocks your opponent can throw. Don't load the line. Get those dodgy elves into the back field. But this all comes with practice. Dark elves can be tricky for an inexperienced player. Also, hit up fummbl and check out their racial strategy guides. Some great info and tips.

    15:50 foul counts as a tackle you should've used a blitz there but because you had already used it you shouldn't have made that move.
    17:15 pushes are made in the next three squares from the pushed model not from the one that pushes.
    18:25 not sure on this one but I think you can only push out of bounds when you have the other team's model between yours and the side line, when pushing from the front you're forced to pick one of the other two options.
    Amazing game, great video

    So, basically Matt pushed off a player that could not have been pushed off in drive 1, causing the ball to be thrown back in onto his Chaos Warrior on the other side of all the action. This lead to a score and a new drive. In this drive, the dark elves got bloodied so badly that they had no chance for the rest of the match.
    So... considering that Matt got a touchdown he should not have had, and events then flowed from that major mistake to a complete loss for the Dark Elves... why is this game not being rematched? I mean, that one mistake is leaving permanent scars on the Dark Elves in terms of injuries, and permanent bonuses to Matt due to SPP.
    Should have played a few practice matches and put them up on youtube to let us point these out before, now ti's pretty fubar with that mistake. :P

    • @Indoor_Carrot

      Hold on, Why couldn't the DE be pushed off the pitch? If I read the rules correctly, when you push, you can choose any of the 3 spaces behind your opponent. One of those spaces was in the crowd, because he was on the edge, so he got pushed into the crowd. What's wrong?

    When Steve got the Quick Snap, he should have moved all his players off the LoS then Matt would only be able to block with a blitz action.
    When playing agility against bash you always want to minimise the number of blocks your opponent can make. Those 2+ dodges help with that.
