Fact Free No. I would have fed the Rebellion secrets. I don't care if I'm capuchin and killed, I wouldn't join the Empire. Unless I was manipulate/brainwashed.
Yularen is intelligent, and at that time was head or deputy director of ISB. As Tarkin heavily suspected but didnt really care, it would be silly if Yularen hadn't at least thought of it.
Orders a purge of everyone named Skywalker, he confronts Vader with his plan to kill all Skywalker's and tells him about this jedi he worked with during the Clone Wars called Skywalker who would always disobey him and was a total lose cannon and that he hates Skywalkers, now that would be funny and interesting...
He didn't "Join the Empire". He remained loyal to the government he has served for years. The Republic became the Empire. He was carried over to the new order. They are still the galactic government, and he is a patriot. He truly believes that he is on the right side, and that the Rebellion are terrorists. He might not agree with the more sinister Imperials, but he isn't going to defect.
Wullf Yularen has been compared to Erwin Rommel, a German commander in WW2. Though he fought for the Nazis, many in the Allied Forces considered him to be an honorable man. He treated POWs well and was against the use of senseless violence. He was simply a German patriot. He joined the military during WW1, and his rank was carried over when Hitler took power. Like Rommel, Yularen is a good man, fighting for an evil side. It doesn't mean he is necessarily in the right. He is "just following orders".
FreakDaMIghet I always figured rommel a man who didn't necessarily agree with nazi principles but at the same time did nothing to oppose them. he only got involved with the plot to kill Hitler when it was clear the war was going to be lost
Ya "join" is definitely the wrong term. Perhaps "Why did Yularen stay loyal to the Empire?" would be a better way of framing it. Personally my biggest question isnt why he stayed, but why he moved from the relatively a-political military to the ISB, which is kind of most sinister organization of the Empire.
Crazy Cat yularen gets out of the room. Sees 2 stormtroopers going oddly towards holding blocks: "Fuck it, not my job anymore" Fast forward some hours: Deathstar: "BOOOOOOOOM" Yularen: well, fuck...
Komodo Bricks if you watch the episode ‘cat and mouse’ in which they kill, or at least supposedly kill Admiral Trench then you’ll see that they actually do get along really well from that point on.
I never got the impression Yularen treated Anakin with disdain, Im sure he didnt think the Jedi order had a place in leading this war but he certainly had great respect for Anakin despite his recklessness.
Thank you for addressing an issue that I've always hated. The Jedi should never have been military leaders, simply warriors. It pissed me off to no end that they had authority over clone leaders and non-clone officers despite having no experience (see: Ahsoka Tano)
Allan Tayor the Jedi were just terrible at their job in both the era of the Republic we see in the PT films and clone wars and in the now non canon Knights of the old republic era. I have a theory as to why based on old EU stuff and what we seen so far in new canon but I won't bore you with that
but most if not all the jedi were good leaders Mace-plo koon-obi wan-that one jedi with the big head and there werent many times Ahsoka was in charge of anything at least not until the time skip and she got a second lightsaber
Allan Tayor alright. first the Jedi were partially responsible for the Force being out of balance. Balance would mean light and dark being equal or being in harmony. In legends the precursor to the Jedi order was the Jed'aii who inhabited a planet called Tython which had two moons Ashla and Bogan(don't feel like looking up the spelling) one a moon of light and the other of dark. the Jed'aii believed that one must remain in perfect balance with the force and those who swayed more towards the light or the dark would go to the respected moon until they were in balance once again but of course eventually there were those who embraced the dark too much and war broke out eventually leading the Jed'aii to believe that the light was more powerful and left and became the first Jedi. So there's that, there's just very questionable things that the ordered did like in clone wars the council found that the Sith were behind the clone army but said nothing and continued the war anyway. Yoda and Obi wan lying about Vader to Luke and insisting that Vader must die despite Luke being able to redeem him. that's the short of it as I would be here all day listing examples from canon and legends about how awful the jedi were with things(Like brain washing Darth Revan or counting imbalance by wiping out the sith) and I think one of the reasons why Luke sought out the first Jedi temple on Atch-to was to see if he could learn why balance wasn't restored and learn the truth of the force before the subsequent Jedi twisted the idea of it over the generations.

You are my favourite youtuber i love to watch these video's from you because you seem like so official and how the video's begin and everything XDD your voice too !! XDD
Yularen served the empire for the same reason Cody did, he continued to serve the government and by extension people of the galaxy whom he had already been serving for years. He's like a imperial Russian/German commander who staying the military after their respective dictators took over. He and Cody fall into that good man on the "bad side" like so many good men throughout history. Rommel, Wenek, Lee, Kudo and countless others.
From the end segment of the season 2 episode ‘cat and mouse’ onward you can see that Anakin and Yularen do get along quite well and have much respect for each other.
I actually didn't connect the two characters straight away, I assumed that they were different people, but hearing this, I feel sad now, Yularen was a great guy and I really liked his character in clone wars, to hear that he sided with, and was fooled by the Emperor, which ultimately lead to his death aboard the first Death Star, is really depressing and a sad end to an amazing and talented Admiral Even if he did make the wrong choice, he was still a mighty fine Admiral, and deserved better than the Emperor's trickery
He was more like a co worker than a friend. He didn't dislike them, but he didn't exactly like them either. The Jedi grew on him over time, but not to the extent of being real friends.
2:41 exactly, these guys know strategy, while the jedi main strategy is "drive me closer, i want to hit them with my sword!". completely forgetting (or not caring) that the clones dont have those glow swords to protect them from blasters, and end up dying because they were forced out of perfect cover by the jedi to run into the open.
Yularen being recruited into the Rebel Alliance as a Fulcrum operative by Ahsoka Tano and assigned to infiltrate the ISB would've been a much better plot.
I love how star wars has a backstory like game of thrones, i used to think it was far fetched until i found the expanded universe of star wars, it brought me back to my love of the concept of star wars
I wonder if Yularen would have served the Empire if he had known Palpatine's true colors? But I find that unlikely, since he was already inbeded with the service already, long before the Empire came to be.
I like to think that he figured out who Darth Vader was because he recognized Anakin's reckless battle strategies. Like when Darth Vader's Star Destroyer hyper-space jumped straight into the middle of the Battle of Scarif.

I been wondering what did aliens do that weren't part of the rebel alliance do during the empire like how did they managed to live through all that hardship and discrimination as well dealing with storm troopers on there home planets.
TBH, i dont think yularen held a grudge against ahsoka after her failure during the battle. It seems clear to me that he forgave her, or at least understood that she wasn't anakin and just made a mistake. Something a lot of young, fresh officers would do, especially in the heat of battle.
TheCommunistDragon no, just not military leaders, the Jedi code prevented them from doing some of the things required to wage and win in war. Tarkin says that in TCW
WALZ97 well it was probably because the non-pricks all left the Empire and joined the Rebels side, the Rogue One Visual Guide listed at least 3 members of the rebel alliance high command as former Republic soldiers who served during the Clone Wars
pretty sure the jedi tried to assassinate the chancellor of the republic and then arrest the senate and the courts in a coup. anakin and the clone army stopped them. the separatists surrendered and to prevent another war the senate voted overwhelmingly to approve the new imperial constitution. so the real traitors are the jedi, rebels are terrorists, and the seps are criminals
Man, I really like this starwars review, answer of many questions and more that I came here for honestly. 2:30 blew my mind you compare much of really life situations and fictional starwars series. Ps: I am very stoned
Hey guys, I know I am kinda late but I have a question. So in the video it was mentioned that Yularen witnessed Darth Vader force choking his co-worker, though it was said that he didn't know Palpatine was a Sith Lord while in contrast he believed that the Emperor was still trying to end the corruption and it seems he thought that the jedi order had actually betrayed the Galactic Republic. Having all above in mind how it is possible that Yularen didn't questioned his loyalty to Palpatine when he saw what should be equivalent to his eyes as a jedi (unless he knew Vader was a Dark Jedi which should have made him even more suspicious) being in such a high Position in the Galctic Empire?
GreEkTerR0r U-I to answer your question was that it was publicly announced that Darth Vader is a loyal subject to the emporer. During episode 3 no clones questioned him either. So its probably around the sametime as that.
Can you make a video about the conversion from Imperial clones (Clone stormtroopers) to non-clone stormtrooper enlists? Maybe you could talk about the exclusion and discrimination of new recruits by the clones?
There has to be some point where he realized he was on the bad side... I mean, the giant station he was placed in was called the Death Star. Not really not most friendly of names.
Admiral Yularen is a featured character in a large series of novels I'm writing connected the SW Universe with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He appears in a story I wrote called Thrawn Enters the MCU.
Here is a serious response. According to the latest Empire's End book, Jar Jar was exiled from his people and ostracised by the people of Naboo for his role in helping Palpatine became Emperor (He was the one who propose granting Palpatine emergency power in Ep 2). He lost his Gungan representative position and became a street performer for refugees kids on Naboo. While the kids love him, the adults ignore him, paralleling real life audience's reaction to Jar Jar.
FlaMasker I'd say it'll happen eventually. the presence of a clone helmet in thrawns office suggests he's studying Rex which could easily lead to a Rex oriented thrawn episode
People only join the bigger sides At the end of the clone wars most leaders changed sides When the imperial empire fell, leaders gave info to the uprising rebels etc
I feel like the point you made about Jedi not being that good at strategies is not true. Many Jedi including Anakin and Obi-Wan were great tacticians, Anakin was exceptional even space battles
CrazyHynter agreed, some say that thier code prevents them from doing what's nessesiry, the only thing it seems to prevent them from doing is executing thier prisoners and justify civilian deaths. (by thier own hand.) while i feel they should have been more separate from the rebublic, and not essentially elite generals/advisors. they most certainly had the ability to lead an army.

thei where not realy good Tacticians.. they where good Fighters, and Anakin was a great Pilot.. but most of the times... any Tactic of Anakin in a SPACE BATTLE was something reckless and involved relativly often the death of many of his subordinates
nice to see Yularen make a appearance in a New Hope. before the Clone Wars Cartoon I always who the grey-haird man with the white suit was during that scene.
Bac0n colonel is bellow general. Both are army ranks. Admiral is naval. Captain is the 2nd highest rank then commander. Note that theirs multiple ranks of admiral. Rear admiral lower half rear, admiral upper half, vice admiral, admiral, and fleet admiral. Which is a 5 star admiral. Only used in war time. The same goes for generals 5 ranks of generals.
If you were an admiral or general of the republic, would you have stayed in the empire?
Fact Free what did Dooku do in his free time?
Fact Free probably because Palpatine might give me "UNLIMITED POWWA"
Fact Free No. I would have fed the Rebellion secrets. I don't care if I'm capuchin and killed, I wouldn't join the Empire. Unless I was manipulate/brainwashed.
Star Wars Versus Man He would be a badass.
And I would stay in the empire :p
Yes because I would have been brainwashed as did most admirals/commanders
If yularen knew he was still serving anakin, he would retire immediately.😂😂
Mikel Zwarthoed yup I kinda wish he would of found out.
Fantom Tarkin says that, not Yularen.
Yularen is intelligent, and at that time was head or deputy director of ISB. As Tarkin heavily suspected but didnt really care, it would be silly if Yularen hadn't at least thought of it.
Probably not
Mikel Zwarthoed Yularen was still with Anakin, in the form of Darth Vader
Let's face it, he did it for the pension.
I'm your 100th like!
Hello there
Quite possible.
Mans gotta eat
Pretty sure he also did it to get back at the corrupt senate. Destroy the corrupt senate and getting paid for it. Win win.
what if yularen had to leave the deathstar before it blew up and later lerned from others that some pilot called SKYWALKER was responsible.
MannequinStep Vader would struggle, then choke him but remembers he is no longer Anakin, he releases him and says I killed Skywalker
MannequinStep vader will be happy, i think he also hates his old self skywalker.
That would be hilarious
That would've been very interesting.

So basically just a soldier following his orders.
i miss his voice before each episode i wish they could have it in rebels
leon Shepard they did
leon Shepard they did
Victor Jard the narration i mean
Tom Kane has a great voice. He did a great job of voicing Ultron in animation as well
IT WAS HIS VOICE???
Yularen was a fun part or the Star Wars Clone Wars. I loved how he agrued with Anakin so many times, and his narrator position.
I can only imagine what Yularen's reaction would've been if Anakin revealed himself behind the mask to him
Andrew Stokes he would be like: Not you again... Fuck this, I'm too old for this shit and retire ASAP.
true that
Crazy Cat yularen gets out of the room. Sees 2 stormtroopers going oddly towards holding blocks:
"Fuck it, not my job anymore"
Fast forward some hours:
Deathstar: "BOOOOOOOOM"
Yularen: well, fuck...
He'd walk of the Deathstar.
"Sir.......*blows his brains out because Anakin can't follow him to hell now*"
The tv series made it seem like Yularen liked a anakin. Especially towards the end
PixlPlayer if you go back and watch it again, he doesn’t seem to like Anakin, he just seems to accept the Jedi
PixlPlayer he did Anakin was his second favourite Jedi... after obi wan becuase Anakin waved his life multiple times
The thing I most remember about him was him saying, "Of all the Jedi, why did I end up with Skywalker?" In the trailers.
Not the mention the incident with Ahsoka.
Komodo Bricks if you watch the episode ‘cat and mouse’ in which they kill, or at least supposedly kill Admiral Trench then you’ll see that they actually do get along really well from that point on.
From Yularen's point of view, the jedi are evil
BUT THEN YOU ARE LOST!
Well, generally speaking most republic officers became members of the Empire.
the ones who didnt were assassinated by ISB Minders or defected to the rebellion, but yeah most became loyal imperials
Not unlike the majority of German Army and Navy officers in 1933, who stayed in the service after Hitler took over Germany.
I never got the impression Yularen treated Anakin with disdain, Im sure he didnt think the Jedi order had a place in leading this war but he certainly had great respect for Anakin despite his recklessness.
If I was a navy admiral I wouldn't take too kindly too an edgy, sand hating, space wizard telling me what to do either.
Internet Crusader Bronze space wizard lmao
Yularen is one of my favorite characters from the CW, I think he was a honorable man of duty.
Marcus same
Yularen went out with a bang.
A big one
Yularen: *hates corruption and nepotism*
Palpatine: I’ll make you admiral with no naval experience in matter of seconds
Yularen: deal
He was captain before
@@Thisiswhereweare1946 He still got a point there though
@Fan of the 41st president
He was a captain in rank, not captain of a ship.

So after all. A skywalker was the cause of his death😅
By The Frozt yep XD
HE FORSAW HIS DEATH IN THE CLONE WARS XD he yelled at anakin in a episode that one day he would die by a skywalker XD
Now that was a big f
Just not the one he thought it would be
I like to think that Yularen, after witnessing how ruthless Vader was with Motti, thought fuck it, I'm not ending up like that and left the Death Star before it's destrucion. He's now doing voiceovers for the New Republic's holonet news.
This is my headcanon now.
Dear whoever reads this: I love Star Wars too
Same, dude.
Confederation Xscape yeah, me too
Oh yeah !
Confederation Xscape , hell yeah...
Confederation Xscape good for you
This is a pretty depressing ending for a character I really liked in the Clone Wars. 😔
Yeah...
*cough* Jesse...
Admiral Yularen is simply one of my favorite characters in Star Wars The Clone Wars. His complete character fits perfect to Anakin.
The voice actor said he was like Erwin Rommel. He fought for his nation despite the change in regimes and was still a man of honor and tactics.
Can you do what the squares on the republic officers uniforms mean please
THE XPRT GAMER I want to know this too.
THE XPRT GAMER They're rank insignias
THE XPRT GAMER they did that already
Andre Temperatura
What's the title so I can watch it?

Colonel Yularen has to be one of my favourite Star Wars characters.

So he was an Admiral, then later he was a Colonel? That would be a demotion.
Probably as ISB Colonel he overlooked after Admirals even Moffs
Yeah he changed military branches. From Navy to Imperial Security Bureau.
a Colonel in the ISB have a higher authority than an Admiral in the Navy
Despite the lower rank
Wait? I thought he was friends with Anakin and Kenobi seen in the Clone Wars series???
Ren Cen So was Cody and we saw what he did
There's a difference since for one thing he doesn't had a bio chip in his head.
He was more like a co worker than a friend. He didn't dislike them, but he didn't exactly like them either. The Jedi grew on him over time, but not to the extent of being real friends.
Yularen when Palpatine ends the corruption in the Republic by creating a slightly less corrupt Empire:
Task Failed Successfully.

I thought he did forgive ahsoka?
Colm Lambe forgive but not forget.
Well, he feigned consiousness and heard ahsoka's apology and later supported her plan, so I think that he definitely forgave her.
Well he certainly doesn't hold a grudge against near-human species.
Yularen being recruited into the Rebel Alliance as a Fulcrum operative by Ahsoka Tano and assigned to infiltrate the ISB would've been a much better plot.
Lol the one who Admiral believed to end the corruption in republic was the corruption himself 😂😂😂
You've become the very thing you swore to destroy

Man I really wanted to see Yularen and ashoka meet again that would be a sad day
Do you think the clones would have the same reasoning for believing the Empire? Like say Cody, Delta Squad, and obviously the Coruscant Guard.
When I watched this episode I didn't realize they were the same guy at first.
How could inquisitors find force sensitive babies 5 years BBY but not teen Luke/Leia who have almost as many M's as Vader?
Thanks to you man. I have finally found that music in this video

I wonder if Yularen would have served the Empire if he had known Palpatine's true colors?
But I find that unlikely, since he was already inbeded with the service already, long before the Empire came to be.
I doubt anyone would if they found out except for the really bad people
I like to think that he figured out who Darth Vader was because he recognized Anakin's reckless battle strategies. Like when Darth Vader's Star Destroyer hyper-space jumped straight into the middle of the Battle of Scarif.
Yularen reminds me of Higgins from Magnum P.I.
Personal if I were an Admiral, whenever a space wizard was on my bridge, I would periodically and randomly shot at them to test their skills- if they deflect or dodge it, then they get to stay, if not....well I don't have to worry anymore.
He actually had many suspicions that Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were the same if you actually know the cannon lore
So respected, he was the voice over guy, a true man
anakins admiral is like a soviet union left over
I liked the part where you put "Almost Always" nice touch and thanks for putting this out I always wondered this
I been wondering what did aliens do that weren't part of the rebel alliance do during the empire like how did they managed to live through all that hardship and discrimination as well dealing with storm troopers on there home planets.

I guess in Admiral Yularen's point of view the jedi were evil...
TheCommunistDragon no, just not military leaders, the Jedi code prevented them from doing some of the things required to wage and win in war. Tarkin says that in TCW
I wonder what kind of things could the Jedi not do that hindered the war effort.
TheCommunistDragon The Jedi Were Evil
Recognised machinimasound almost immediately, good choice man, good choice.
I get that a lot of Republic officers joined the empire... but was it in the empire's manual to be such pricks?
WALZ97 well the imperial officers are similar to nazi officers, more specifically the SS who were literally taught to be pricks
WALZ97 well it was probably because the non-pricks all left the Empire and joined the Rebels side, the Rogue One Visual Guide listed at least 3 members of the rebel alliance high command as former Republic soldiers who served during the Clone Wars
I like how you made this after the episode where Yularen's return in Rebels.
i'm not the first one but at least i have the highground in this comment section
You underestimate my punctuation!
Double A Batteries don't try it!
You underestimate my comment!
you underestimate my perfection!
Damn Yuralen is one of my favorite characters
TTTTRRRRAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTOOOORRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Republic Holdout the only traitors are the ones that rejected the glorious new order.
Oleg Balashov Shut it New Conglomerate trog! Terran Republic ftw
pretty sure the jedi tried to assassinate the chancellor of the republic and then arrest the senate and the courts in a coup. anakin and the clone army stopped them. the separatists surrendered and to prevent another war the senate voted overwhelmingly to approve the new imperial constitution.
so the real traitors are the jedi, rebels are terrorists, and the seps are criminals
the republic was horribly corrupt and weak
TheAnime Warrior How dumbass must you be to think that lmao
if only he knew he was still serving anakin skywlaker
so much backstory for an extra in the first star wars movie..
That's Star Wars for you
Man, I really like this starwars review, answer of many questions and more that I came here for honestly.
He ages but Tarkin doesn’t 😂

From my point of view the Chancellor is evil!

The_.Jam._Man The fuck? I'd like 2 see u do better
There has to be some point where he realized he was on the bad side... I mean, the giant station he was placed in was called the Death Star. Not really not most friendly of names.
WTF? Yularen was in Rebels?! I m toootally blind!
Laurin his first appearance in the show was in the episode that aired yesterday, so if you haven't seen that one then you didn't miss him.
Alexander Roderick
ah. that explains a lot
Admiral Yularen is a featured character in a large series of novels I'm writing connected the SW Universe with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He appears in a story I wrote called Thrawn Enters the MCU.
What happened to Jar Jar Binks after the clone wars?
CRXnova He went on to become an imperial officer and after the second deathstar blew up he was nearby and was disfigured. Thus he become snoke.
He tripped on a rock and split himself in half on a spinning saw blade
Here is a serious response. According to the latest Empire's End book, Jar Jar was exiled from his people and ostracised by the people of Naboo for his role in helping Palpatine became Emperor (He was the one who propose granting Palpatine emergency power in Ep 2). He lost his Gungan representative position and became a street performer for refugees kids on Naboo. While the kids love him, the adults ignore him, paralleling real life audience's reaction to Jar Jar.
oh... im actually feeling sad for Jar Jar... i mean.. he didnt intended something evil.... he actual thought that he was helping...
Dantinus that is so sad I actually like him (he was a good character in the lego game)
Fact Free, Is seriously the realest nigga around, I can't stop watching his shit.
Lol thanks
Fact Free, what's Imperial Senate Guards?
Do a video about them
Or: He took up a new job on narrating Clone Wars intros
i wonder how Yelaren and Rex would react once they see each other in "Rebels"
Fact Free pin this if u see, thx...
FlaMasker I'd say it'll happen eventually. the presence of a clone helmet in thrawns office suggests he's studying Rex which could easily lead to a Rex oriented thrawn episode
Sean Gannon true :/
3:09 I almost thought you were gonna say: "From his point of view the jedi were evil"
rip.
Wait....if the Republic has known peace for years and had no army....how are there experienced General?
77madman The Judical Force & planetary militaries
People only join the bigger sides
At the end of the clone wars most leaders changed sides
When the imperial empire fell, leaders gave info to the uprising rebels etc
Did anyone else die a little when they saw the crying padawan kneeling over his dead master?
Stealthyhunter Yes.
From my point of view this is a very good channel =D

CrazyHynter The Jedi code kept them from doing what needed to be done.
Woah. He’s a lot more deep than you’d expect.
He didnt join the Empire...he was just loyal to the Republic and the Empire was the continuation.
actually, he was loyal to palpatine !
nice to see Yularen make a appearance in a New Hope. before the Clone Wars Cartoon I always who the grey-haird man with the white suit was during that scene.
I thought Colonel was a lower rank than Admiral since admiral represents general in the navy
Also he switched branches to ISB
I always thought Yularen thought well of Anakin. since in my opinion Anakin was a great fighter and quite skilled in naval combat.
Could you do a video of the reason he had such a fantastic moustache
