I just got a new puppy and she is utterly rambunctious until I put on a chess-network video. She almost always calms down at the sound of your voice. Thank you!
That endgame was beautiful! Great harmony between all of your pieces all time long, getting all of your pieces playing, pawns creating outposts and protecting each other, king helping out in key moments, knight being tricky as usual and all together making that bishop their... well, let's just say they didn't respect that bish.
There’s a pool of obscure variations in the Bogo Indian to choose from, like the one used in this game. Most of the lines are dead because they aren’t that effective. Most notably, the Wade-Wilson variation is part of that dead pool.
The last couple videos seem to have weird audio. Some compression artifacts or something giving a metallic ring to your voice. Especially notable in the introduction, right after the title screen with the ding. Did you change microphones?
Hey Jerry, I'm a professional audio/broadcast engineer. I love your channel and hate bad sound, which is sufficient motivation to offer my troubleshooting services free of charge. Like greenkid says, sounds like compression artifacts from your final encode, but it could always be something else in the chain.
I'd like to see you turn local & infinite analysis on so that Stockfish continues to work on each position that you end up staring at for a bit. Great game though, and as always, nice to hear your thought process mid-game.
I took it, the result was 1668... It's pretty close to what I expected it to be. A little underwhelming, but it shows that I need to play more chess. It's a win-win in my book :D
On move 45. c6 was a tricky rock sacrifice, black can't take it, and I thought white could start to have some counterplay but sadly his bishop is running out of squares and by simply taking on c6 black also has Rd3 next move.
Jerry Do you usually play that slowly (on the clock) in the opening and middlegame? Or is it just for the videos, to be instructive to viewers? I enjoy your thought process but your clock management gives me heart palpitations.
37:34 - I liked the look of Nf3+, king moves, and e4. Nf3+, Kg2, e4, Qc3+, Kg8? If Black can ever get in Qd7 (threatening Qd1 and Qg8#) can't Black just give up the f7 pawn? Nf3+, Kg2, e4, Qc3+, Kg8, Ra1 (protecting back rank), Nd7 forking queen and bishop.
thanks, I found that move pretty much instantly even though I'm a 1600 rated player. Granted I am a bit underrated and I'm also pretty good at endgames, but I thought a player as Jerry would have found such a move. of course I understand that it is a high-pressure situation but idk
As good a player as Jerry is, I think he sometimes lacks the awareness to check for tactical options and forgets to calculate the most forcing moves. In this case, he really isn't to blame considering he had 16 seconds on the clock! Nevertheless, it's impressive you found the tactic so quickly.
Hey comments, how many takebacks do you all generally allow? Because I'm at 1.2k Rapid rating and people claim they mouse slip alot. Im too nice to not allow them to. What do you all think?
I already have :) I just wondered as it's sometimes hard to keep updated through emails :( Great videos as always though, very detailed and I love following your thought process
At roughly the 20:00 mark, is there no way for 13...c5, with an idea of sacrificing the knight on the first recapture to ensure you’re left with a pawn on that square, protected by the queen until you can get b5 in?
Something to the tune of 13 Rfc1 c5 14 bxc6 kxc6 15 dxc6 dxc6 but that's about as far as I can carry it; I'm a very lowly player and a half decent player can probably analyse out the rest pretty quickly. I was wondering if anyone could see if the resulting position was worth playing (or better, worth the knight), or if it was entirely dead-end. You could potentially see about getting the following in, but not sure how it would actually play out 16 ... b6 I'll run it through lichess and see where that gets me, but I don't have the same understanding of what's important, and I also suspect that an engine isn't going to give the same analysis of a piece-for-position trade anyway.
Perhaps the question is not "would this work", but "how does this fall down" (dropping a knight notwithstanding)? (also this sequence ends on a +4.5 evaluation, so the idea certainly appears to be terminal)
I love watching your videos but I am a beginner so I was wondering in your opinion what is the best way to improve your chess fundamentals? What are like some solid openings and I guess what else should I be doing to improve my game?
Jerry, you make me nervous letting all that time slip by! I'm 11:30 in and you're down to 7:18 with 14:55 for your opponent. Will you pick up the pace later on and pull it off?? Yikes!!
I just got a new puppy and she is utterly rambunctious until I put on a chess-network video. She almost always calms down at the sound of your voice. Thank you!

What have we done to deserve a whole hour of content!? Love the vids Jerry, keep it up

You mean not that effective for White correct?
#Wooosh alright I'm deleting my comment, Google explained the joke to me.
I get it!
You, sir, are a legend.
James Jumper This comment is legendary
Thanks for these videos. The way you explain your thoughts about the game while playing is absolutely astonishing.
Thank you a lot for this great chess content Jerry! The quality of your personal commentary and video/audio is enourmos!
"We're both living off the increment". Statement of the game.
fantastic video Jerry, loved every second of it. thank you 😌
Wow, that was a great game to watch.
Fantastic middle game, Jerry. Taught me patience while dealing with piece tension. Keep them coming, those classical time format games
thanks jerry standard games are the best.
What a game! Congrats on the victory, Jerry!
i love youer channel very much .. im from Jordan and I hope someday became a good player like you❤
Nice composure, as always, keeping it simple, nice intuition too on a fast game
Seeing this one only now.. Wow, very nice play in a slightly inferior opening variation. Thumbs up from me, definitely.
wild game . 2 tricky knights up a pawn. down on time... awesome run last night CN~! thanks for everything you do CN and Jerry
Jerry you make awesome videos!
Jerry plays at IM level
Love the longer videos!
Jerry's piece play is masterful. See how he quickly adapt to positions and change according to it.
"double checking something" but there wasn't even single check. Just kidding enjoying the show Jerry
The last couple videos seem to have weird audio. Some compression artifacts or something giving a metallic ring to your voice. Especially notable in the introduction, right after the title screen with the ding. Did you change microphones?
Unfortunately the audio remains a work in progress. Thanks for the feedback.
I noticed this too, but i'll always love Jerry's videos. Hope it does get fixed sooner than later though.

Ooh awkward. I guess I don't mind throwing my junk email up for a short while: xxxxxxxxxx
@IncenseAgallochum I've sent you an email.
That slick back rank mate sequence, you seemed to have discussed all the components of that line but never quite put it together!
I'd like to see you turn local & infinite analysis on so that Stockfish continues to work on each position that you end up staring at for a bit. Great game though, and as always, nice to hear your thought process mid-game.
Love your vids! Could you post a vid discussing candidate moves?
At 43:03 Nd2 is winning the exchange. There is no square that will prevent the b3 move with attack on both rook and bishop
I love your Videos Jerry. When will be the next Video of Beginner to Chessmaster published? I learned so much from them!Greetings
You should do the elometer.net test, I'm curious to see your thought processes and results
I agree!
jerry should see this
Thanks for the link. I took the test - it was long! (76 problems)
I took it, the result was 1668... It's pretty close to what I expected it to be.
A little underwhelming, but it shows that I need to play more chess.
It's a win-win in my book :D
what is your chess.com/fide/lichess/or whatever rating if i may ask, anes mesic?
for comparative purpose
Nice game! At 4:30, 7...e5 would have stopped 8 Bd3 actually because of 8...e4, which seems to win a piece.
For those wondering about the apparent misspelling in the title: *Vladimir Symslov* was a cousin of *Vassily Smyslov* ...
At 58:43 as you move the rook to d7 the evaluation jumps from -3 to 0. that move costs 3 pawns advantage :D insane..
On move 45. c6 was a tricky rock sacrifice, black can't take it, and I thought white could start to have some counterplay but sadly his bishop is running out of squares and by simply taking on c6 black also has Rd3 next move.
Thanks Man
Tres tough indeed

tough game indeed!
"that can get a little nutty." Jerry 2018
i love you and your vids jerry :)
I wondered about 32 ... Rd4 😃
hope you achieve grand master :D
Jerry, can you try the kings gambit next time?
that would be awesome!
It's bad opening.
I'm guessing as a more strategic player, he'd rather avoid forcing the game into a sharp direction.
Leevi Malmivaara not really.
Hes played it before, but is the most positional kings gambit player haha! But I agree, more kings gambits
I would like to see the eval on Nf3+ and e4 to see how much worse it was (since the computer like pawn takes instead.
at 42:41 couldn't you do Rd2+ followed by Nf1+ to exchange rooks and then push the b-pawn?
Yes, that would've been winning. Well found!
thanks, I found that move pretty much instantly even though I'm a 1600 rated player. Granted I am a bit underrated and I'm also pretty good at endgames, but I thought a player as Jerry would have found such a move. of course I understand that it is a high-pressure situation but idk

Hey Jerry, it's everyone
Hey comments, how many takebacks do you all generally allow? Because I'm at 1.2k Rapid rating and people claim they mouse slip alot. Im too nice to not allow them to. What do you all think?
I think d6 and e5 was maybe a bit slow for black?
At move 43 why not Rd2+? Rd2+ Rxd2 Nf1+ Kg2 Nxd2 Be5 b3 and white can resign no?
hey jerry, been watching your games for a while now. just wanted to know why you're not IM yet? with a rating of 2500
That's my online Rapid rating. IM is achieved via over the board play.
There are IM norms also required:/
Jerry do you have a schedule for streaming? As I'm from EU sometimes it's hard to keep up to date.
No. You can follow on Twitch and Twitter for notifications.
I already have :) I just wondered as it's sometimes hard to keep updated through emails :( Great videos as always though, very detailed and I love following your thought process
Did I seriously just read that right. Bogo-Indian. Alright
Named after Efim Bogoljubov if that helps.
Just realized after the video it was an hour long
Spending a lot of time screaming in my head “play e4”.
That was too complicated for me ,from start to the end I lived off your comments the whole way .
At roughly the 20:00 mark, is there no way for 13...c5, with an idea of sacrificing the knight on the first recapture to ensure you’re left with a pawn on that square, protected by the queen until you can get b5 in?
What is the variation you're seeing?
Something to the tune of
13 Rfc1 c5
14 bxc6 kxc6
15 dxc6 dxc6
but that's about as far as I can carry it; I'm a very lowly player and a half decent player can probably analyse out the rest pretty quickly. I was wondering if anyone could see if the resulting position was worth playing (or better, worth the knight), or if it was entirely dead-end.

Was that a Friends reference at 18:30? :)
Love your work jerry, get a job
how do you change the color of the arrows on lichess.org?
i need a drink
I made a video using some clips from your channel, Jerry
I love watching your videos but I am a beginner so I was wondering in your opinion what is the best way to improve your chess fundamentals? What are like some solid openings and I guess what else should I be doing to improve my game?
Tonio Mapomapo thank you
Yes, combine that with some ChessTempo tactics training and you'll be on your way.
Something wrong with the mic in this one?
+ChessNetwork Please do the www.elometer.net/ test and post it in a video. (It can only be taken once.)
Hi Jerry:)
I think your mic is broken, or it's too close to your mouth. Something about the audio sounds grainy.
*hmmmmmmm*
@38:06.... Never play f6
Jerry, you make me nervous letting all that time slip by! I'm 11:30 in and you're down to 7:18 with 14:55 for your opponent. Will you pick up the pace later on and pull it off?? Yikes!!
47:08 white resigns....whew!!!
