Such a great episode! Kathryn brings so much value to the pod community. Thanks so much for taking time to join. I loved hearing your perspectives and experiences. GRKC wouldn't be the same without you! And I loved TJ's analogy of being a homeschool father and learning from God the Father. Such a good illustration of how a loving father would walk through teaching a lesson to his kids.
Thank you Brad for clarifying those of us who put our kids in public school do still love them. 🤣 Always fun hearing from Kathryn! One tiny note I will say in defense of Hattie. As the oldest sister, it was grilled into me that I had to help my younger siblings. So much so, as a teenager I didn’t think I was allowed to have a voice or ever express my own needs. I fully accepted my role as “the helper” or “mom #2” as my mom often called me. I know so much about parenting is about balancing and of course it is good to teach them to be helpful and not selfish, but I think it’s also ok to allow our kids to say “I don’t want to help my brother this time” once in a while. Just some food for thought. 😉 I am very close to my siblings, so it’s been very healing for me, as an adult, to have them encourage me to speak up for myself and that it is ok to have needs of my own and that they will love me even if I don’t help them. 😊
I agree! I’m not a mom, but I think it’s good practice to follow through on promises. What happened could also teach hattie that she can ask people to do something for her in exchange for something and she doesn’t have to give them what she promised she would upon the completion of their task. Also, it might just weaken her trust in Kathryn (or it could make her believe people don’t have to follow through on promises that they still expect her to hold up her end of). My mom I know is always doing things for my best interest, but there were times I lacked trust because she hadn’t followed through on a promise (even if it wasn’t bc she was mad at me and was just bc she forgot). Especially because you guys said you think hattie is very sweet it might be good to allow her to first stand her ground with her siblings (bc if you can’t be comfortable setting boundaries w your siblings you can’t be expected to be comfortable setting boundaries with others). Ofc they know what’s best bc they’re their parents but because I am almost 21 (I was a kid short enough ago to know what stuff affected me but long enough ago to know how that stuff affected me, and I am old enough to reason how I misinterpreted what was my parents trying to act in my best interest), I have a good gauge how feelings stirred by my parents as a child impact me as an adult (and I know my parents were just learning themselves- they’re the best, even when they make mistakes).
Kathryn, I graduated high school 2 years ago, and was homeschooled my whole life. Just wanted to say I think your kids will be really grateful later on to have been homeschooled - I haven’t met a single person who hasn’t enjoyed being homeschooled. I know it can be really hard sometimes - heck, one of the first days my mom started homeschooling me and my siblings, we were such terrors she started crying and had to call our dad home from work to wrangle us in - But I am so, _so_ glad I got to spend all that time with my family instead of at a school. Love you guys
Man I feel like I would get along so well with Kathryn!! Hello from a fellow Christian, (mostly) crunchy, natural birth mom! If y'all are ever in central FL, please let my husband and I take you guys to dinner. You seem like such a fun couple.
Love having Kathryn on the pod. I was listening on Apple podcast and had to come on RUclips and comment when Catherine was talking about fireworks! So that video that you loved that was from the “simply safe” porch camera. Those were my brothers. The one who yelled “Run” was my older brother and the one who falls to the ground in the left corner was my other brother. The van was totally fine by some miracle but my brother’s car that was parked next to the van had a broken window and major damage to the side of the car. Anyway, I was tickled to hear you comment on that! I live here in Alaska where the sun doesn’t set in the summer until 11:30pm and even then it’s still light so you can’t fully enjoy fireworks on the 4th. You can in the winter though!
38:50 Yes! Homeschooling our 2 girls and 3 boys was tremendously beneficial to their relationship! The good times bonded them together and the tough times taught us all how to lovingly handle conflict. As young adults now, they are still super close and look back on their time together at home as an incredible blessing.
I homeschooled my kids for 11 years and will most likely be doing it again once the younger 2 are adopted. I started homeschooling my older kids around 2002. I didn’t personally know any homeschoolers at the time, when my husband asked me to do it. I told him that I was not going to start wearing long denim skirts…literally the only idea of homeschoolers that popped into my head had a certain look about them. (My first misconception.) As far as the social aspect. My kids were with so many people of all walks of life. We traveled, did mission work (traveled a whole month through Central America), went with my husband when he had to work out of state. I did have an adult (a rude adult) say that he thought my kids were socially awkward, but when I had him elaborate on that, it was because they didn’t know about “things” that I didn’t want them knowing about at their age anyway. His kids, who were the same age as mine, would ask my kids questions and laugh when my kids didn’t know what they were talking about. That’s not being awkward. That’s being parented. 💪
A new favorite episode! Great conversations, and Kathryn really got to share a lot. Nickel Creek, Holistic Hilda, Castor oil, world travel! I can’t wait to travel to see the history.
Welcome to come to SD any time! As a Sioux Falls native we took a field trip in elementary school to De Smit to visit the Little House on the Prairie exhibit and it was great!
Wonderful sode Kathryn! I love all the hymns you mentioned, but my favorite is It Is Well With My Soul. There is a moving tribute to this song and the author, Horatio Spafford, on the tube that was narrated by Hugh Bonneville and sung by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. Prepare yourself, you will cry, but it's a good cry. 😪😪🥰
I understand completely about having a miscarriage and then getting pregnant and so nervous for the first few months to say anything. Also I just now started trying the Castrol oil patches this week !
We did walk outside sometimes in my large city high-school. There were three extracurricular buildings, two of which were connected by a hallway type bridge, but if you were already on the first floor, you would walk outside because it was faster.
You guys are my people. Love homeschooling talk as we also homeschool. Would love to know more of your detox products/processes as this is something I'm becoming more interested in. Thanks!
I waited until I was 32 to get pregnant and man oh man do I wish I could have been pregnant as the tiny 20 something I was. Praying my daughters find wonderful husbands and have babies younger than I was. My body is much weaker than it used to be. Also, what year is your Honda Odyssey? We're wanting one.
Just here to say, that I'm down with TJ's conspiracy guilty pleasure. 😆 If anyone here resonates with that you should definitely check out The Why Files youtube channel. It's actually very objective about what facts can be confirmed.

Can Kathryn make a crunchy go-to list of her favorite recipes, remedies, cleaning products, etc.????
You can sell it. You'd probably sell thousands worth just us.

This feels like a very 2015 thing to say but Brad and Kathryn are goals

Loved the interview with TJ!

I could listen to the First Ladies talk for hours 😍

I'm so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I can't imagine how heartbreaking that is. Love hearing about your kids and Kathryn's mothering.
❤
Kathryn has such a pretty smile. 🙂
Kathryn is so sweet ❤ great show.
I’m loving the crunchy Kathryn content!
I like to hear you two talk about what you learned about each other and how that all went. Go team ☺ Way to go ☺ Keep up the good times ☺

I loved hearing from Kathryn! I just have one little for now but I want to homeschool and she is my inspiration!
Loved the interview with TJ! It was so very encouraging and had such beautiful metaphors! ❤
Kathryn laughing at the fireworks killed me
Yay! Kathryn🎉
So funny, a commercial popped up as soon as the explosion hit in Jake's video. 😂 perfect timing.

Pepin is in Wisconsin- 30 minutes from me in Plainview, MN. Stop in Nelson, WI for ice cream if you go!
Loved this ep!!
Can't wait to hear some homeschooling conspiracy theories
I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriage. My heart goes out to you guys.
I love using castor oil packs. It really does help!

The same time you’re talking about storms there’s thunder rolling here in Arkansas 😂
Kathryn and I need to hangout. She's speaking my language with dry brushing and castor oil packs. 👌
Gods goodness does not equate to comfort! Wheeeww you better preach TJ🔥🔥
My 7 year old nephew loves Because He Lives. But he calls it "God sent His son". It's adorable!
@@MauiGurl82 and he has known all the words to all three verses since he could talk! His momma might find special meaning in that song.
What video is the fire extinguisher ball clip from?? I’m so curious to see the whole thing!

These guys did MUCH better with the side by side camera shots than Trump and Biden. Well done.
Bring someone in the their mid 50s, let me just say that 50 is not the prime of your life, 20s and 30s are the prime of your life 🤔
That was really encouraging. Thank you. I needed that today. 🫶🏻
