as a kid who grew up watching "How it's made" this scratches that adult-kid itch of curiosity.
My favourite is "How its made, toothbrush" episode. The speed of the machine that but the brushes in the handle is mind-boggling! 🤯
What's your favourite, How it's made episode? :)
@@Rubmaster idk man I just watched it on the science channel with my dad and it was always something to watch with him.
Yes many thank yous
Thanks kindly

Watching these, a pattern emerges. the most expensive thing in the world is a skilled laborer's time.
This needs more likes.
Well put
Yup, that's why i think CEO's and Landlords shouldn't exist. When a skilled labourer brings 70-80% of the cost of an item, why does he deserve 1% of that objects price in compensation?
Marxism intensifies...
@@MarvellousNation no thanks. The extremes are always wrong
I'm glad to hear that these talented women have finally found ways to sell these beautiful works of art, without getting ripped off by middle men. Taking most of the profit, from *their* hard work!
If they can continue doing so for a while, it will allow them to live better, buy better gear etc. etc.
I wish them all the best.
All done by men i might add
I love the note talking beside the round circle 6:07 just to remember the time that he did not saw the notes and made a triangled stone by accident.
Always amazed by how many Japanese companies feature on these videos, master craftsmanship in every industry! Arigato Nihon
They are AMAZING!
Busy busy busy!

I love how consistent and yet so different every episode is: a
I love watching curling 🥌 during the Winter Olympics. It’s really the only game I watch besides the gymnastics 🤸♀️. Watching curling just relaxes me for some reason. Watching the stones go slowly down the ice and the brooms scratching the ice. The first time I watched I was like what is this? 😂😂. I’d never seen such a thing but now I would love to try it.
You know I've never been very entertained by it but it always makes me happy to see someone find joy in the little things. Hope you get the chance to play one day 👍
Playing it is even better! I did a charity tournament once and then got hooked
I love this video format because you start watching shocked by the prize and at the end of the video you’re amazed it’s so cheap, considering the process
The world needs more of these noble artisans and less greedy corporations.
It is not so much the corporations, but finding customers who will pay you for this kind of highly specialized work.
When the global apocalypse comes, these are the people who will be holding civilization together. RESPECT!
Every time I watch this type of video especially with the pipes the number one worry is not having people to teach the craft too. I would love to start a program that goes into prisons and youth detention centers to find candidates to match with all these older master of all these crafts and teach them. I’d guarantee the majority would find new paths in life with a newfound skill and respectable artistry. It truly is heart breaking to think of all the things we have forgotten or will forget due to todays youth not showing any interest. People in prisons and drug rehab programs have nothing but time and a desire to do something meaningful that they can feel proud of… I will meditate on it. Much Love All 🙏🏼
Some prisons are doing this, there's a program in Cook county prison (in Chicago, where over half of the jail population has never being found guilty, it takes that long to wait for trial) to train prisoners as chefs. Because even if they do end up convicted, while many shops and restaurants won't higher convicts for the front of house, but they will for the back.
The kimono's are absolutely exquisite just breathtaking....❤️❤️❤️❤️
these are so fascinating, thank you for making content like this for everyone!
Rug making…Artist/weaver ought to get full price..omg, such work. I am overwhelmed.
I hope those ladies get a website set up for them. Would increase sales drastically.
just wanted to say that I love the voice reading the scrips to these documentaries
thanks, there's just so much amazing ancient traditions.
High level craftsmanship and artistry are much appreciated and admired here. Aspects of this pursuit of excellence and focus can be emulated and reflected in our own stewardships and daily lives.
The artistry, hard work, passion and dedication that goes into making kimono, rugs, pearls etc they are worth the money Actually, I think they are still not expensive enough
Does anyone else remember how Mr. Rogers would have a segment each episode where they showed how something was made? I do and that’s what started it all for me. Getting to the Peel back the curtain on how things are made never gets old!
Can I just give props to your camera team? The angles, perspectives and lighting is fantastic
i live this thorough and calm reporting....
The curling stone masons will be please to know, my wife, raised in a mountain village in Anhui Province China, fell in love with curling the first time she saw it in the Olympics and has avidly followed it since then. Her village is also famous for a few specialties: fine green tea, mulberry leaves used to cultivate silkworms, and mulberry bark used to make the finest handmade paper for Chinese brush calligraphy (Anhui is were paper was invented and sill produced).
Every four years, my favorite cousin invites 15-20 people over to watch the Olympic Curling Competition. 3 days of eating, drinking and Curling. What a party!
@@saltycreole2673 Sounds like y wife and her girl gang, fewer heads but no less enthusiasm for eating, drinking & curling (and skating & snowboarding). And Karaoke. You can take the girl out of the mountains but not the mountains out of the girl.
Nice video. I know Mr. Schneider since 2009... and gotta say. That's quite an event... too bad I don't care about 99% of what's presented. My instruments are presented in very different locations. And I study their nature since 52 years.
This is an amazing video and I enjoyed every bit of it. It's another time of the year. One need to set goals and take bold steps in achieving them. Remember success are not obtained overnight. It comes in installment; you get a little bit today and a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate you lose that day of success.
Well, from my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. So far I've made over $325k since September last year in raw profits from just q4 of the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it if you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key to short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest in the market to the cost of proper diversification.
@amandalaura8472 My portfolio is very much diversified so it's not like I have a particular fund I invest in, plus I don't do that but myself. I follow the trades of Karen Gaye Gray. She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial adviser as her diversification skills are top notch, I'm saying because I see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike I can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.
Normal people buy in at high prices the stock market goes down, companies but stocks back cheaper by introducing some "disaster" Stock rises after a disaster and the cycle repeats.. Having a good entry and exit strategy, will make you succeed in the stock market.
@@georgewilliam9978 By following trades do you mean copying her trades,as its done in etoro? Are you giving her your money or the money stays on your account? I have heard about copying trades but have not looked into it but I have an idea of what it is.
@@jonathanjustin2476 Yeah exactly. My money stays right in my account. it's all programmatic, plus it's relatively much easier to set up and connect my accounts than creating a financial pan and drafting investment strategies myself, my account just mirrors her trades in realtime.
Thank you for creating this lovely content like this it's so nice to watch.
Such beauty made by women. Kudos
These videos are so relaxing, entertaining and informative.
I am absolutely amazed at this info. Real work really amazes me…these have been made for many years. Omg…HUNDREDS OF STONES… I’m agog

Absolutely beatififul stone
Curling. They call the unfinished chunks of granite “cheeses”. Gives a new meaning to the phrase “who cut the cheese”.
All of this stuff takes a lot of times to produce and intensive human labours. No wonder they're expensive, it's more then worth it.

This was amazing, thank you.
Kudos for artistry/crafstmanship.
What I can see so far is what all these people are basically selling is, their passion, perseverance, dedication with the ultimate satisfaction of "giving" away a piece of themselves in exchange for lots of profit that allows them to keep working on their "legacy"..
42:30 bro really said "tastes nice"💀
You design very easily and very attractive for children. Good choices for each video should be mentioned.
Such great content
I can see the little Ailsa Craig island from one of my regular dog walks in Northern Ireland. Bit mad to see it in this video. Interesting!
@BigAveBluegrxmeyl60c I’m pretty close to the coast but I can see it from the top of Orra Mountain where I sometimes walk the dog. It’s a clear view from there to Scotland on a decent day. It’s one of my favourite views.
I understand why the Japanese could not allow Kim Kardashian to brand her apparel Kimono, it would have been insulting to the culture and artistry of the Japanese people. It’s a piece of art, not just a Japanese attire.
Very interesting is the *"Pauwls"* (Pearls) farming..
I gotta get me one of those meerschaum pipes. ✨👌🏼✨
Great video / series. I now know why some things are so expensive. Thanks.
Omg I have always wanted to know how they make curling stones!!

Lovely work, thanks for sharing. New sub
WOW i didn't know this makes me proud that im of this decent being a trades person i know what you mean a bought having a feel of drilling a block and the feel of the cutting into the stone.finding the sweet spot of pressure for optimum cut without damage to the wall of the cut.

How can we purchase directly from the rug cooperative? Is it possible??
Now ponder ancient egyptian granite work 😎👌 they mustve had machines too
The curling stones look like cheese rounds... think parmesan cheese
Also I wouldn't be so quick to judge about younger generations not being interested in buying these things.... I would if I had the ability and it was a bit easier for me to spend the funds required for one of these items.
Didn't realize there were so many gorgeous women who were interested in curling..
Weird how humans decided things like diamonds and pearls were so valuable. Gold too. When it takes a professional to discern certain fakes, we’re basically admitting we like these things only BECAUSE they are rare and expensive, not because of how they look.
A little bit of both, it's rare that not every one sees it and it looks different once you have it from everyday objects
gold is not the same as diamonds and pearls. Gold has real value because of it's technological applications
@@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558 diamonds have technological value too. Lasers, cutting, it's a semi conductor and more.
Opals are way cooler and are actually rarer.

“The bigger the rug, the more expensive it becomes”
WoW! Such insight and creativity from the writer(s) and/or narrator. I don’t think anyone would have ever thought that.

where did they find trees for oboes before african blackwood
they were generally made of boxwood or cocus wood.
What happens to the older and used Olympic curling stones?
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:34 🥌 *Olympic curling stones, made by Kays of Scotland, cost over $600 each, with a full set valued at $9,600, due to their rare Ailsa Craig granite and precision crafting.*
08:52 🌐 *Increased global interest in curling, especially after its inclusion in the Olympics, has led to a rise in demand for Olympic curling stones, prompting more frequent granite harvesting by Kays.*
10:28 🎶 *Crafting high-end oboes, like those made by Howarth of London, involves a meticulous process that takes five years, with African blackwood being a crucial but scarce material.*
13:57 🔑 *The complexity and number of keys in oboes contribute to their cost, with the intricate keywork being a significant factor, and the labor-intensive assembly accounting for 60-80% of production costs.*
18:51 🌊 *South Sea pearls, the most expensive cultured pearls, require five years to cultivate, with only a quarter of oysters surviving, and implantation being a crucial step in their development.*
24:49 💎 *Only 20% of surviving oysters produce the highest-grade South Sea pearls, characterized by roundness, luster, minimal blemishes, and large size, contributing to their high market value.*
27:27 🎨 *Handmade Chiso kimonos are expensive due to being entirely silk, requiring intricate handcrafting that takes 6-12 months, with prices ranging from $7,000 to over $100,000.*
47:40 🧵 *Moroccan rugs are handwoven, using natural dyes and intricate patterns, taking months to make, facing challenges of fair wages and competition, with prices exceeding $1,000.*
01:01:16 🌍 *Bellerby & Co. Globemakers produce handmade, customized globes with attention to detail, limited production, and prices ranging from $2,000 to over $94,000.*
01:19:45 ⛳ *Honma Golf clubs, costing over $50,000 for a set, are crafted by 25 master craftsmen, featuring luxury materials like platinum and gold, with a meticulous manufacturing process.*

On the oboe. I inherited my mom’s clarinet. It’s made of wood with silver keys. I am ashamed I never appreciated what I have. I will be taking it in to the shop to get the pads replaced and the keys lubed and cleaned. What a piece of history handed down to me that I ignored because I liked the trumpet better.. smh
The Turkish meerschaum pipes artist Ertugrul's face reminds me of Salvatore Corsitto from the Godfather.
🤔 especially at 45:35.
I thought him pointing to the camera and saying it was the evil eye was funny made me laugh. When I saw your comment I could only think of Salvatore Corsitto saying in and I laughed a bit more at it

It's sad that some of these arts are declining, I know I'd jump through hoops to learn how to craft traditional kimono, a lot of the times there are foreigners who want to learn an art form but are turned away.

Since a foot by four inches by an inch of African Blackwood costs about $100 US Dollars.
It has a lot of resins in the wood but is durable. However this makes it difficult to work with.
Curling LEFT the olympics?? i it's one of my absolute favorite sports
So tragic that these days people don’t value the time skill & work that goes into weaving carving dyeing embroidery etc.
Truth is some things are so expensive because it was planned that way and there isn't anything special about some items other than it was controlled and limited in order to increase value.
And sold to the rich.
How small is... 'The littlest oboe?'😆
