Really good interview. I take issue with the fact that Jason suggested technologies like eye tracking increase cost and are not worth the effort right now. Eye tracking opens up foveated rendering techniques that allow developers to significantly increase fidelity without increasing hardware demands. So Jason points out ASW/ATW allows good VR experiences to occur on lower hardware configs.
OK, what's next? Eye tracking hardware needs to be refined. Is it not ready to be available in order to enable foveated rendering at a reasonable cost? If not in the next couple years, when? And if not, what will drive costs down in the future? Conventional PC hardware gets more powerful with more time, but mobile has been pretty stagnant as of late. Battery and pure power have seemingly reached a tipping point these past couple years. Is it lack of mobile company's motivation or technological constraints?
