@@LucasJRice that wouldn't be a gliss, rather a slide. They don't sound anything alike, glissandos have to be played on a lot of separate strings to have their specific sound.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS. I was making a duet between me (marimba) and my friend (harp) and I was struggling on how to compose for harp so this helped so much. You don’t even know
Is there anything else to note? For example, what is recommended for beginners? Anything tips and tricks for duets between instruments? Is harp more of an accompaniment instrument or would the harp be able to stand out?
While all the other videos are great, this was the most interesting video. As a trained musician without experience with harps, this taught me a lot about the characteristics of the instrument.
My long term partner is a (percussion) musician & music teacher and it’s helped me develop such a deeper appreciation for the art/craft/math of music and I really love watching people deep-dive into the details of the things they love and have talents for…long-winded way of saying what you do is super cool and I thank you for sharing it
"We also do harmonics" *Accidentally plays a tiny fraction of one of the emotionally loaded game songs of my life, Final Duet from Omori, leaving me once again sad and empty.*
I’ve never thought about how chromatic aberrations don’t really work for harp in the way they do for piano or even guitar, but yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for the video!
Consider two types of glissandi: Discrete like the harp, where all 8 notes in a scale are used quickly one after the other and each note is audible in playback, and continuous, like the trombone or fretless strings (violin) where we slide from a beginning to an ending note without discernable notes in between. Also, one form of piano glissando, where the thumbnail is pulled across the white keys, might be called a C-major glissando.
As a seasoned guitarist I always get a kick when you say you can get "guitar sounds" out of the harp or even the "xylophone effect." I understand you're showing off an instrument you love and I have all the respect for Harpists but you can't honestly sit there and say that a harp can sound like anything else than a harp. And why would you want it to? It is one of the most beautiful sounding instruments ever. Just saying, I giggle every time you say you can make your harp sound like a guitar 😄✌💜
Please explain: why don't you use your pinkys? As a pianist and guitarist, one of the struggles for us is to get used to using the pinky, even if it feels hard and difficult. So why don't harpists use it? Feels like that would open up a lot of new opportunities?
I thought I could easily pick up harp as a classical guitarist, didn't work as it turns out the wife says I need to stop spending retirement money on concert quality instruments. So I don't suppose you can try " Koyunbaba " 1st and IV movements please. Pretty please, if course if you don't have time. I can continue to imply I need a harp
Two oddly specific questions. Are you able to play augmented chords/ diminished chords easily? And can chromatic passages work if they are spaced out? Thank you so much love your content!
I need lessons so bad but i live in a corn feild any advice for learning at home/by yourself? I'm also struggling to find videos and even reading materials. There's not much proper material 😭
Is there a lack of harp music due to these conditions? Because I play flute and for us you can basically just play anything with one note (sometimes two) playing at once max of course. More can obviously be done with a harp, I mean that there are less things to worry about when writing for say a flute.
Could you please do some songs from hollow knight? Queens gardens and greenpath sounds sound absolutely amazing, I'd really look forward to hearing them!
What if I want to write someone really muddy huh *writes a harp part where two diminish seconds on the very low end Our played at the exact same time in a very rhythmic way*

Literally bro. I feel like my memories were just... 𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙
Elaborate. Explain to us.

I’ve honestly never noticed you don’t play with your pinkies that so interesting!
That's because the pinkies are to weak but there is one professional harpist that does play with pinkies, which is really impressive.
Petition to remove the fifth finger from all musical instruments hahaha.
It is so important but horribly underdeveloped for most.
@@alex_inside Can't imagine playing the flute without pinky lol
@@alex_inside Piano octaves
@@alex_inside no i use it all the time on guitar

Well, 58 seconds ago, as it happened.
When I need a glissando, harps usually help so much! They can do glissandi in all harmonies! No other instrument can do such thing, I think
Trombone
Clarinets
Violin
@@LucasJRice that wouldn't be a gliss, rather a slide. They don't sound anything alike, glissandos have to be played on a lot of separate strings to have their specific sound.
@@LucasJRice trombones and fretless strings play what's called a portamento
I know the glissando is such a cliche sound effect but it still sounds so good, and it has a really fun gesture to it when being played. Nice work!
I really like this style of video where you explain more about the harp ! Its really cool !
She put me in a flashback at the end there😂
Me too! 😀
Can you do "hanging tree" I think that would be so beautiful on the harp 🥰
The queens of the Stone Age song?
The hunger game song
"We also do harmonics" - plays Minecraft music
Yes, join us in the percussion corner with the snares, auxiliary, and vibes (my personal favorite)
I'm playing this close to my ear and the thunder effect almost made me break another phone lol
I have to admit, harps makes the best glissandos.
They sound so dreamy and pretty.
You're the coolest honesty

For parts, in general, you don't want notes too close together. This is why open chords that sound fine in the guitar are terrible in the bass
How can I love you any more???!!!!
❤❤❤
me watching this with a straight face knowing all of this as a former harphist....
The harp is just a piano being played standing up on the side. Lol

THIS IS SO COOL BUT. How long does it take to tune a harp 😭
