Went to Capetown this last November, most awesome place I have ever surfed. It was so cheap to eat, play, and party. Looking forward to getting back this year around the same time. It wasn't big but Nordhoek was off the chains. Thanks South Africa for showing me the beauty we have lost in San Diego. Edit: Super sketch paddling out knowing there is Great Whites around. But the lookout guys make it less sketch.
@marc handler lmao, I can't express to you the eerie feeling I had. Didn't help that my buddy was telling me where all the attacks have happened and how recent. Oh well, I'm alive and had a sic session that I will never forget.
My god... the whole time watching this awesome video, I couldn’t help but think “ok now they’re gonna spot a great white”! I know its not announced at Mav’s when there’s an attack, but Cape Town I’d think has lots more learning under the waves no? Hats off boys!!
There is a white farmer extermination sanctioned by the government going on right now in south Africa but that would probably kill the vibe of this documentary.
Unfortunately, despite this very well edited and compelling video, the truth is Cape Town doesn't really have great waves very often at all and when they are they are usually either super crowded and/or freezing cold or blown out with wind, even offshore wind. Or full of kelp. Or far away. Take your pick: Cold. Kelp. Crowded. Closeouts. Kilometers. Kak. But a great pro like Jordy can produce amazing surfing out of average waves, thus giving the impression to average surfers that the waves are awesome when they either aren't or are far too high performance and powerful for most surfers to deal with. Honestly, on the whole, for the majority of the surfing community, Port Elizabeth has way better waves. And I've lived in both cities for decades so I would know. It's true.
I for one never trust an edited comment...you tone smacks of jealousy, Cape Town rocks! & so does Durban. Im a 50 year old surfer who has been surfing C.T for 40 years I know what im talking about.
So Ashton are you calling Jordy Smith a liar when he says CT is one of the greatest City’s in the world to surf & not to mention live in. Or do you consider yourself more informed than one of the best surfers around who chooses to call CT his home even tho he could live anywhere else. I stand by my comment you are seriously envious of what we have down here in the Mother of Cities.
@Nathier Abrahams: We're with you and would love to see more diversity in the water. Mikey February, who is in this episode, is a huge step forward for surfers of color - Mikey was the first black South African surfer to make it on the WSL World Tour. Casey Alexander very eloquently put Casey...and what brought you to this enlightened conclusion?
Casey Alexander we’ll seeing as you are from CT and we using acronyms you may be familiar with this one JMSP!
It was quite obvious to me that he was taking the piss.
Why are there only white surfers? They aren't the best in CT
