    Richard, big fan of the channel, I like watching you do what I do. I call myself a wandering photographer. Getting up early, get to the woods alone and just “see what there is to see”. I too go home and research a species after photographing, especially if I observe something that I don’t understand. I also try to never stress the animal for the sake of a photo. I love your comments on field craft, tracks, and animal behavior. This is something I’m always trying to get better at. I wish I knew more about nest identification, as I see so many now in these winter months! Thanks for taking us along!

      Hi Kelly, thanks very much indeed for supporting the channel and enjoying my content it's always very much appreciated. I think sometimes being a wanderer has lots of benefits and can work really well, I love just to be out in nature and see what crosses my path. Ethics are at the heart of what I do and the subjects welfare must always come first. I love doing nature tracking and you always learn something new which makes it so much fun. My pleasure, all the best Rich 👍

    A quick tip about those wood ducks if you find yourself in a remote forested wetland next summer!
    They nest in tree cavities just like owls! Usually in a forest... always near water.... You can get some fascinating photos of them up in the shaded green canopy (while mosquitoes try to murder you😅)
    They're very shy, even when they're up high🔭🦆

    Thanks Richard for the thoughtful video. It helped brighten my day as I’m into my fourth day of isolation with Covid. All I can do is look out the window at my backyard birds. It’s a sad situation regarding the destruction of urban habitat and very difficult to stop. Often all you can do is bring it to the attention of the general public.

    Great video Richard. I am east of Toronto, a little more than an hour, and have just stumbled on your videos. I too am in love with owls and birding, and southern Ontario is a great place for it. It's amazing the amount of wildlife in the GTA given the amount of people, but there are some nice parks and nature areas for them. The greenbelt itself is a corridor that is essential for birds and other wildlife and it is amazing to have that across the province. One owl that I've come accross by complete accident is a Northern-Saw-Whet owl, smaller than an eastern-screech owl and much harder to spot, and maybe you'll see one as well (if you haven't already!). I am curious how much you have ventured out of the GTA as well to explore some of the amazing nature we have to offer, especially just in Ontario.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  10 месяцев назад

      Hey there, great to hear from a local and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment it's always very much appreciated. Yep I am always amazed to see such a variety of wildlife here in the GTA, the corridor that allows the wildlife to flow through the busy parts of the City is essential for the mammal species to roam freely without too much danger from us Humans! I've not seen one of them yet but I'll look forward to when I do, mu gosh they are harder to spot! That's going to be difficult, lol.. I've been North to Kearney, as far east as Rouge PP so far, I aim on venturing further when time allows! Heading to Quebec soon for 5 days, so hopefully I'll get to see some wildlife there. Just trying to get used to my local patch first. Thanks again for checking out my channel, and if you Subbed that's very kind. Hope to speak again Rich 🙏👍

    Nice video and another successful birding Richard. I hope you stay like this and don’t be like others that they claim they’re bird/wildlife photographers but in their RUclips channel their content or videos are full of about camera gear’s review. I like it that you go outside and still shoots wildlife while talking about gears unlike others they talked nothing else but the gears to sell and they’re seating in a made studio 😅

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Peter, thanks very much for watching and for leaving a comment. I don't think I'm likely just to focus solely gear and try and push sales, I do sometimes talk about kit and do say how much I enjoy, or not enjoy a particular piece of equipment but it's certainly not my main focus. Yeah, these made up studios make me chuckle, mood lighting and lava lamps, placed cameras etc is not my thing, lol.. I like to be out in nature not sitting at home talking about photography. Thanks very much for watching James, it really was a shock to see it! And when it was suppose to be protected for future generations! It will, and one of the many reasons why we purchased it so we could keep it protected for nature to thrive and survive. I miss our woods, but it's not forever and I'll look forward to all my future plans when we return. Cheers Rich 👍

  • @Distinctly.Average
    @Distinctly.Average 10 месяцев назад +3

    Well said on the destruction. A local wood here got felled recently. This was not for houses, but because the woodland trust wanted to replace the 100+ year old trees with native trees. When I asked why they chopped down 6 old oak trees I was basically told to shut up. Seems a big of money is all it takes to get away with destroying whatever developers want.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience with us. That's very sad to hear, it's seems to be quite the "Norm" these days for wildlife organisations to do that type of thing and hide behind the trees have out lived their useful life, which is a shocking statement! Sad times my friend, sad times! Cheers Rich 👍
