I was asking myself why I find your videos better than most videos in the same genre, and I came up with the following reasons:
- They are always to the point. There's no meandering, even your extemporaneous remarks in the field being incorporated into a tightly streamlined narrative through thoughtful editing. I often give up on videos where the speaker spends minutes and minutes doing throat cleaning that should have been edited out. In such a short format as RUclips videos, getting to the point quickly and sticking with it to the end means that the audience gets a lot of genuine content without having to invest more time.
- Your videos combine a passion for photography with investment in wildlife and preservation. The birds seem to matter not just as subjects for photography, and that comes across.
- Your videos project respect for your implicit audience. You never talk down to the viewer, and you teach with a commendable lightness of touch.
There are other channels I like, of course, but they rarely combine all of these elements so well. The one exception (and it's a channel I recommend to everybody who likes yours) is Stefano Ianiro's channel. It's a joy to watch, for many of the same reasons.
Thanks so much for the generous feedback. I really appreciate it. and, I love Stephano’s work too!
It’s the best feeling ever isn’t it😊 when all the hard work pays off❤
True!
I feel very fortunate to have found your channel shortly after you started it, and immediately subscribed. Your passion, your video production, and your photos are all top-notch. Keep making videos of this caliber and I predict this will quickly become a very popular nature photography channel. Rightly deserved too. I look forward to your next video.
Wow, thank you!
Agreed! Very enjoyable and educational content!
Yep! They are elusive little buggers!
Not only is the content stellar for beginners, but the production quality is outstanding.
So rewarding and such peace watching you at work. Thank you.
Wow… every video you offer is packed with knowledge and experience., but your excitement is so contagious! I certainly appreciate all that goes into these videos, so, thank you!
You are so welcome!
transition at 6:13 was amazing... am a beginner but WOW!!!!
Mr. Tenacious indeed. Well done here. I'm guessing my Winter Wren heard:seen ratio is about 100:1 (along with Northern Waterthrush). Another aspect I'm enjoying about your channel is this - it's like a bird ID clinic, you show a bird and I (we) ID it. Lovely fun after dark on a cool wet mosquito evening.
Thanks very much!
The thrill of the chase!
right!
Well, I just finished watching all of your available videos! I started with your instructional videos, and was amazed by your wealth of knowledge and quality of explanation. Then, I found these behind the scenes videos, which are just as great! Can't wait for the next one!
Glad you like them!
I've just found your channel. So, I've done what I usually do, set the search for oldest first, you know, to see what this new guy has been doing. And that's when I saw your show on the Winter Wren.
It just so happens that I saw and photographed by first Pacific Wren today. I wasn't specifically looking for that species. But on the other hand, I knew that there was a possibility of one being in the area.
I actually thought I'd found one based on calls. So, I began pishing and stayed with that longer than I usually have the patience for. And sure enough out it came - BRIEFLY. So briefly that all three of my photos were out of focus - slightly. But still, more than I had ever had before. Now I need to get some good ones, if possible. Maybe by rolling out of bed early (for a change).
Anyway, I'm happy to have found you and my Winter Wren's western vicariant.
Excellent!
I loved this video, it really shows how hard you have to work to get good images. I think all of us nature photographers have a nemesis bird, mine was the Woodcock. I've seen hundreds flush in front of me, I've had them walk in front of my car headlights, I've almost stepped on a few. Finally after 10 or 12 years I got a photo of one, not a great photo but a good one.
Always delightful watching your channel and the feathered beauties.
Many thanks!
wow...great accomplishment Simon, a truly inspiring video to all of us.
A glimpse of what a true photographer is all about.
Simon, this is such a beautiful video. More please! Loved every single minute of it, lived your adventure with you. And oh what a beautiful bird it is, the song is so complex. You did great. Would love to see more of these videos. Thank you for all that you do for us who love the nature and want to learn more.
Great job! The winter wren looks so much like the Carolina wren that we have here. Thanks for sharing!
Neat. Thanks for watching!
Your videos are so enjoyable. Your photography skills are incredible.
Thank you very much!
What beautiful photos and video after three days of putting in the work. Another stellar video Simon!
Glad you like them!
Love the story, of nature, sharing . Many thanks
I have had exactly the opposite experience with the Winter Wren - both in the US and in Europe - when in breeding they more often than not popped out and sang till I got bored and moved along for other birds - but all the same - your videos are great and birding is just worth every penny. Thanks for sharing
Interesting!
Simon, the effort and production you are putting into your videos is so commendable. They keep getting better and better. I love how you built the story and rewarded us with a fantastic ending. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Wow, thank you!
I totally agree with what Scott writes Simon! Thank you for sharing🙏
That was a wonderful, amazing place & birds. Thank you.
Patience always pay off. Beautiful pictures!!
Yes! Thank you!
Now that is perseverance personified, it makes me think 'I must try harder' I often ask myself ''how did I get that singlemindedness in my career but cant find it for my hobby'? The end result show the discipline required and how to get the job done.....a little lesson me thinks?
haha right!
persistance payed off beautiful footage and still photos well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
I so enjoyed this video from the comfort of my chair.. your persistence paid off and it was great to see this amazingly beautiful bird singing its little heart out. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video again Simon, but I must say im sorry you had to go through so many hours to find one... yesterday I was out and shot about 4 or 5 different wrens in about 6 hours. Pick any bit of wood with lots of low bushes and branches and I'm sure one will show up, I also use my whistling/chirping copy ability or trick to attract them, they are as nosy as robins are 😊 try it next time if you like.
I would like to compliment you on this video, it is excellent. I am very fortunate on having these little wrens on my doorstep in the UK most of the year and I love to photograph them. I have to be honest though, I do like an evening in front of the warm fire whilst watching you out there producing this content. Well done Simon, you have me hooked :-)
Thanks so much Phil! Thanks for sharing!
Great video Simon, thanks for sharing. Those photos at the end are SPECTACULAR!
Glad you like them!
Greetings from Utah, USA. Love this video and your photos are beyond amazing. Thank you for sharing, your passion shines through.
Thank you so much!
Another fantastic video, Simon. They just keep getting better! Your attention to small details in your videos is a cut above, just like the details in all your still photos. Those small details are noticed by many of us - such excellent content. My favorite channel!
Many thanks! very kind of you Robert!
Love this! Love to nature 😊
Lovely video! Thank you for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Your commentary, additional bits of humour, etc. really make your videos watchable and make me want to see even more. Got totally engrossed in this one! I am in the UK and a wren will sometimes visit my garden, picking insects from rose bushes, etc. It looks the same as the one you saw, but I fancy that the song is very slightly different. Just as loud though!
Glad you enjoyed!
Watching this as much for the mindfulness as the photographic technique. Dedication to one's art requires hard work and patience!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a beautiful video. Great work, sir.
Thank you kindly!
Sweet victory! I am fascinated and glued to your work.
Thank you very much!
Love your Videos Simon. So inspiring. I have learned so much in watching just a few of your videos. Thank you.
Great to hear!
This video is brilliant I know the struggle and you captured it perfectly:) also I wanted to tell you that your niche in nature photography content is great and possibly empty . Your videos are neither to overly contemplative and romantic , nor to tech heavy and dry. Also you don’t try to sell me tutorials or trips ( at least so far :) For me your videos just feel realistic. Especially this one. Just Like I was out on that trip. And you nailed it in the last part. Your doing it because it is hard ! I don’t know your motives and reasons for doing your videos but I sure hope you continue in that fashion. I liked all your videos so far even though I got a little annoyed by all the nature photography content that is out there lately. But your videos feel fresh to me for the beforementionend reasons. The one about the birds breath and this one especially. The other one about sharpness was nice but also a bit redundant in my opinion. There are just so many videos like that. I mean you pulled it off nicely but on the other hand it was nothing new. I watched it anyway…. :D but with this type of video I can completely relate. Have a nice day, I am looking forward to your next video.
thanks so much Sebastian for taking the time to write such a detailed comment. I really appreciate it!
Absolutely love your videos. So much good and useful information and inspiration. Glad i found your channel.
A great effort well rewarded! A very cool little bird.
Many thanks!
What an inspiring, beautiful video! When you finally caught the bird, it made me tear up. The light was just right too! How rewarding! Thank you!
Such dedication and tenacity. Loved this video 😊
Thanks very much!
Another great video as I catch up on your productions. I'm glad you caught up on the WIWR. After watching I checked my 140,000 photos and I had exactly 2 photos of Winter Wrens.
If it was easy Gavin would do it 😅😅 Sorry I couldn't resist.
Good stuff! Exactly!
Another fantastic video. Very professional and informative and as you point out you are very tenacious….and that is meant in a very good way. Absolutely loved it…..Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
No….thank you.
Great job on the video. Love the story telling here :) Keep it up!
Thank you so much Trond! I’m a big fan of your channel!
Well, now I don't feel so bad having such a difficult time photographing those little guys. Thanks for sharing. Loved seeing him singing.
SO inspirational. Keep up the hard work and long hikes ;)
Thank you! Will do!
Merci pour cette belle aventure et vos très belle photos.
De rien!
Wow, great storytelling and videography. Enjoyed that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great story. You've communicated the challenge and joy of finding and recording this little creature. I was enjoying the landscape and your lessons, but the joy of finally seeing him was wonderful. You are a very good story teller.
The trill of the hunt...for the elusive, testing you all the time with its song from the shadows or behind a branch!! Never been a hunter, but can now feel what I must imagine they feel when out in the woods trying to outsmart their prey. Although the outcome of our preys fares better than theirs. I've only been doing the same thing for the last two years, with a new camera for the last two months. Just in time for spring migration! Lucky enough I live a few minutes away from a large marsh with different access points. Great video! (videoS...i've watch all four)
thanks so much! go get ´em!
A wonderful video , I to will look forward to your videos. :)
Thank you very much!
Wonderfull and informative video! Thanks for sharing - greetings, Rolf
Glad it was helpful!
Persistence gets rewarded. No wonder this small guy is difficult to spot. He's perfectly camouflaged. Very interesting process.
thanks!
Very entertaining and what a reward. Great video.
Thank you kindly!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!

You are so kind! Great to have viewers from Sweden!
Awesome experience, every bird lover should definitely see and hear this bird in real life, they are truly amazing
Wow, the title must not have clicked or something because this is an amazing video. Such a shame it has so few views.
Two words: briljant video. Lovely footage and photos. I get inspired to start with wildlife photography now, waiting for my canon r7 here in Belgium:) greetings alain
Best of luck! The R7 should be. great camera.
Great, thanks for sharing !!!

Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done and excellent video and shots!
Many thanks!
Just loving your videos!! Keep producing and sharing!!
Thanks so much!!
I would see the Winter Wren every so often at my parents home in Toronto, Canada. Whenever I did not see it for a while, always thought that a cat got it, then it would show up. Never seen them anywhere else as of yet. They are a cute little bird.
they are!
I felt the excitement finding your bird! I found a yella rumped warbler once and she hopped and sang and hopped all over this tree it was so funny! She made me dizzy but I got her! Love this content
Thanks!
another brilliant video, I am giving a session at my local small photography group on bird photography, I watched your intoduction video, I will show that as it is one of the best introductions to bird photography I have ever seen and you have done way better than I could ever do.
Awesome, thank you! Too kind Andrew!
@@simon_dentremont The session went really well and now they want next months session to be a field trip down the coast for more bird photography. Thanks again, you are inspiring people on the other side of the planet.
Wonderful
Thank you! Cheers!
You are making this video stuff look easy. Great video!
Glad you think so! it’s not! I’m just learning. Editing videos is hard work. I have respect for those who do it well.
Loved this video and can relate to the joy and delight on your face when after all that effort you saw and videotaped and got beautiful stills of that delightful little bird.. I love all nature but the joy in capturing those tiny elusive ones is something special indeed 🎶🎶🎶
Yes! Thank you!
Great video. I am enjoying the work you do. You mention that people may like to walk with you as you search out the birds and I agree with you 100%. It's a lot of standing, sitting, looking, and waiting but being outdoors is 50% of the enjoyment. It teaches patience very well. It was great that you finally got the images of the Winter Wren...and with no twigs or shadows. That alone is the icing on the cake. Thanks!
Yes, exactly! thanks!
Strangely, the wren/troglodyte is one of the most common birds in Belgium, no problem to find them at least in spring when they are singing. So finally, I should be happy to photographe these common birds instead of searching rare exceptional species!
Enjoyed video. Winter wrens are so tiny & curious! In Fall I've rescued a few in city. First one was just a puffball, I noticed as it was tumbling around in weeds in Newark, then realized something wrong broken wings & ran quick falling tumbling. On drive to rehab escaped the paper bag, proceeded to crawl up & sit on my shoulder, explored not afraid. He expired few days later(recovery rate of our rescues 84%). A Friend & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ, TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up injured Warblers. In Newark most of the birds that hit the glass skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. We bring injured to TRT for a 2nd chance. Amazing could find the teensy bird in the woods, in Newark pavement so easy to spot. Was nice to see a healthy Winter Wren singing happily , never heard or saw them sing.
Thanks so much for what you do in rescues! We need people like you to take care of them as they make their way back to me so I can see them again next year!
@@simon_dentremont thanks your video made me happy
I do it because I like the challenge too but also the thrill of the find and the opportunity to capture the memory through a photo. Loved the video and truly represents how it’s not easy but so rewarding .
thanks for sharing!
Beautiful pics! That is a beautiful little bird! We have the Carolina Wren which is quite vocal and not the least bit shy. I'm afraid your equipment costs more than my car and I'd have to take out insurance on it. 😊
haha thanks!
wonderful video!
Thank you very much!
Excellent videography, narration editing, music, b-roll, establishing shots and overall content. I really like this vlog style / adventuring through the woods. I shoot film, but I’m new to photography all together and am interested in digital. Maybe I should look more into photographing birds, as so far I just kind of shoot anything that catches my eye, but no specific purpose. I really enjoy this and often my favourite photos that I take are trees deep in nature
thanks so much! it’s just great to get out in nature, whatever you shoot!
Simon, a lot of what I was going to say has already been said. This is the first time I have come across your videos and I immediately loved what you are doing. No pretentious presenting, beautifully filmed, great commentary with natural history tips thrown in and thoughtful filming to make it look as though I am with you in the field. What more could I ask. Thank you for taking me along on your journey.
Oh, and you now have me as a subscriber.
Wow, thank you Dave. so nice of you to say.
Absolutely beautiful video of the elusive winter wren...and a wonderful lesson as to what is needed to get there... inspirational.
Glad you enjoyed it!
good work.
Thank you David! Cheers!
Outstanding video Simon and shows truly how tough Song Bird photography can be. Great job at sticking with it and coming away with some amazing pictures/videos and most importantly great memories.
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks Brad.
I am completely immersed in this video. It feels like I’m there, just walking along with a wise and skilled photographer. Love your videos. Greetings from Norway!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Please keep these coming, loving them! Ironic, that these little Wrens are common year round in the UK, and the song is easily my favourite
will do!
Terrific video! Love your passion for this wonderful hobby and for inspiring more people to enjoy it. Please keep your videos coming.
Thank you! Will do!
Great video Simon, loved watching it. Respect for your perseverance. Thank you so much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Simon! I believe I just stepped into the wren's boudoir! You show how difficult it is to capture one whom you seek, and provide the reward! What a fantastic journey! Thank you!
Wow, thanks so much!
Fantastic. Dedication and perseverance! Rewards itself.
Thank you very much!
Awesome video like always, for me being in the field and taking pictures myself is priceless 👍🙏
thanks!
Very happy I found your channel. You’re instructions have been the best I’ve seen on RUclips, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them. The pace of your videos, editing and beautiful photography are fantastic. I’m an instant fan.
Wow, thank you!
Wrens are one of my favorite birds.
I always tell people when it comes to chasing wildlife, (birds, deer, or anything) We are part time photographers and they are fill time animals. They always have the edge on us.
Good stuff Simon.
great quote!
This is better than most documentaries I've seen. Do you edit your own videos too?? I could easily watch an hour+ video like this. Maybe have a second youtube channel for more documentary style content like this?
I do edit my own. thanks!
Simon this is fantastic thank you for showing this. This beautiful birdsong can be heard down at my cottge and now I can try to find the wren and photograph it myself . So wonderful. I love your vidoes so much! Soon you will not be able to answer all the comments as I see this growing beyond all your wildest dreams- as it should!
You are very welcome! so nice of you to say so!
Magnificent video! I love your narration, Simon! This outstanding video made me feel as if I were right there! Wonderful production!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video, Simon. Really enjoyed the process, including the unsuccessful days. Beautiful film making too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Simon.. Your videos never fail to put a smile on my face :)
Love your work!🙏 Keep it up! 👍
Thanks, will do!
Hey Simon, it looks very similar to our House Wren in in the US. I'm so glad to see you finally found one to show us. So cool. Greg
Cool, thanks
nice
