It would be more editing but I think it would be a fine touch to have a list of the available moves your team has at any given time on the side. Like on the side it could say: bubble, tackle, peck
I'd love to see someone TAS this to see if it's theoretically possible, with strategy improvements or better luck in move efficiency/switch training options. There's also the unanswered question of if this was possible if you had done the rival and bridge first and not burned moves on Misty to get to the grass for more moves...
I would absolutely love to see this for Crystal. When i got this notification i dropped everything to go watch your video. Nothing is better than a new creative pokemon challenge! Cheers for the vids man. Loved your Crystal Clear series.
Enter The Unown once again with a very creative challenge. The short duration of the video let's me anticipate a loss though... Edit: I would like to see other tries. Albeit I honestly don't expect any of these to go particularly well.
I am not sure. The later generations have very diverse early Pokémon options available. I think it is for sure possible in SwSh, for example. You could last out Raid Battles with useless moves while the AI Pokémon win it for you and get a bunch of different Pokémon that way. And you could farm TRs just by collecting Watts. XY for example has a variety of Pokémon very early on, so that could work as well. Also, later games are much more lenient with experience gains, which sounds helpful as well. Either way, it is very fun to see FJ try these.
Thats the best Pokémon challenge idea ever. Just some suggestions: Harden might help you for the fights you had to burn 2 turns in. Could Pokémon yellow be the change you need? You could manage to get up nugget bridge easier and access some Pokémon here, like charmander, pidgetto, oddish and bellsprout. I think from there on it should become much easier. There‘s also a lv 8 or 9 pidgeotto in viridian forest that should be helpful. Also mankey, sandshrew and high level spearow and rattata on Route 3 should be in his favour. He should give it a try!
Tbh I was betting he'd fail to get past Misty, so kudos to even getting beyond that. If nugget bridge didn't have so many mandatory battles I think it coulda even gotten through the to the league since the game pretty much opens up after Bill. Woulda been cool to see how much "above par" the challenge could get tho. Like, how many more moves would be necessary to beat the challenge if he continued but only used moves when completely exhausted?
It's a super cool idea, I would love to see this in other gens! This challenge seems destined to end early in most of the games, but I think if you allowed for grinding and only made the One-Use Only rule apply in trainer fights, you would probably get a lot farther.
This was mostly just "how far can I go before the inevitable hits." Gen 1 just doesn't have enough useful moves to make it too far with having all of them be one use. Still this is an interesting idea and I would like to see it done in other regions with more moves to use. Maybe one can actually be beat. Who knows?
This is a neat idea for a challenge. I feel like it might get easier as the gens get more advanced, but honestly that just raises the intrigue of “how far can you go?” Please do more!
You know, I actually don't mind the erratic schedule. The less you upload, the more I value and savour the content that will eventually appear on your channel. I don't know if it's just me, but I prefer this over daily and weekly uploads.
Same for me. I find that, after a while, I just zone out on the videos until something catches my eye and even then it may not be an instant click. With erratic schedules, I'm much more likely to watch since it's something that doesn't happen often. Sadly, RUclips's algorithm prefers daily 10+ mins vids which is awful, but that's is necessary if you want large sub growth.
I was thinking this was going to be a sort of "What if every move only had 1 power point" thing. Have it reset for each battle, but make them all single use per battle.
Very clever and interesting question! I am very interested in seeing how this challenge goes in other versions. I'd also be curious to see a shuttle relaxed ruleset version (for generations where catching a mon doesn't give xp) where you can use any unlocked or even any moves in non-mandatory fights, since it might help unlock additional moves to prevent locks like this. But I'd be happy to see this return in any case, in different gens.
I thought it was going to be if you used tackle with Squirtle, you could never use tackle with Squirtle again but other Pokémon could. This is so much worse and you are a madman!
I'd be interested in seeing more of this. I fear that to actually succeed, you'd need to change the rules to only losing moves in Mandatory battles, in order to allow grinding, but even if you don't I'd like to see another
You're back with an in game video! :) keep up the great work! I'd love to see it for a later generation (3+) with even more movesets and pokemon. I would watch crystal as well though I'm not really optimistic about how far you would come there. also, a suggestion for a variant: how about also using moves that each pokemon would learn only later on or via TM. so basically having the full moveset for each pokemon available from the start (minus the already used moves of course) from which you could pick 4 for each battle. though I don't know how you could technically implement this. I would definitely watch this as well. :)
so part of me said "No way, their is just not enough moves" but i was not fully sure. I will say the idea is noval and I love to see more on it. If I can critical of something. If you use multiple moves in battle, do your best to show that even with a good degree of luck that multiple damage moves were needed. So a few attempts on harder fights are more forgiving then just what feels like casually wasting a move (at least the way i felt during some fights). Again even with that critic, this idea i think is a great one and i love to see you push it more. Honestly if you get 1 win ill be very happy and surprised.
It should be definately be possible in gen 3. It has less than 50 mandatory battles and you can use abilities like Poison Point, Flame body, and rough skin to inflict damage without ever using a move.
Id like to see more. Its quite an interesting concept and while it might not take you to the end of any game its pretty fun to see how far one could get trying
"There are less mandatory battles in Gen 2" The Goldenrod Radio Tower siege has no less than 20 unskippable battles, I doubt you'd even make it that far.
Its funny how I was just binging some of your older videos and woke up seeing that you updated, its a great video as always and I'm excited to see this as a potential series! Out of curiosity I have to ask: Would doing challenges for any of the spinoffs be possible? I'd love to see what you could come up with for them!
Really fun idea, that! Shame the run was always doomed, perhaps if you'd had it so each pokemon could only use a move once, so if multiple pokemon can learn Quick Attack at least you get more options that way? Really fun regardless, looking forward to Gen II
I would love to see this done in other games, this is such a cool challenge. The only way around it here is if you counted struggle as not a move, then you could have your Pokemon bash their way through nugget bridge. Either that or find a gen 1 glitch that may not exist to give you a variety of TM's.
Think this is a really cool concept and can see the effort that went in. Only thoughts on how to optimise would be if you could get through Brock without battling the optional trainers and if you could delay Misty and therefore have enough attacks to get through Nugget Bridge and open up the routes south of Cerulean prior to returning. I definitely don't think it would offer a way to win, but it could have extended things a little further
I'm not sure how viable of an idea this would be, but another interpretation of the idea would be only getting to use a pokemon's move once. So, your starter gets 1 tackle, but other pokemon can get 1 as well. If that's too easy, perhaps make it so you can't skip trainers or run away from wild pokemon. I can see the first battle against your rival (regardless of game) possibly being impossible. Unless there's some obscure gen 1 mechanic that there is a chance to one-hit KO, or maybe some combination of nature (for the generations that is a thing), stat-moves, and a crit. Depending on the rules, you could spam an item like you can with pokeflute which is infinite use but takes a turn, so you can lose to the first rival battle. Maybe you could trade for a pokemon that can win the battle, or breed a starter pokemon with an extra move or two and still start at level 5. There might also be a game which you can access wonder trade from the start, so that could be a way to do it. Loved the video as always. Maybe if this idea isn't feasible, changing the rules to allow items, or just being okay with not succeeding, and just trying to get as far as possible. I imagine it might be easier on you to edit if you don't complete the whole game, therefore having less footage to get through and work into a video.
One way to reduce moves used is to start with bulba. Level to 7 for leech seed, that can take Brock on its own. This would give you a chance to save moves spent leveling, or to use them to level other Mons.
I'd like more! Alternately, if you want something more like a "how few moves I can beat it in" style (and are capable of the editing required), starting with a ditto and as many tms as possible couple be fun?
I'd be curious to know if this could work in Red/Blue either by relaxing the rule to limit the one-battle use to each species (e.g. both Bulbasaur and Rattata can use tackle in one battle, and when Bulbasaur evolves Ivysaur can use its tackle once as well) or by changing it from "one battle" to "one target" (e.g. if you use Tackle on a Pidgey, you can use tackle again but only on pidgeys and maybe evolutionary forms of Pidgey)
Was so confused at the title and first 3 minutes of this, until I read the description and saw that it was that each move is usable as many times as you want, but only in one battle each 😆
Consider this interesting. I expected that it would be each pokemon individually burning the moves, but in that case you'd almost certainly be able to make it, as you'd just catch more pokemon when you ran out... if, however, duplicates of breeds(including evolutions) weren't allowed...
This is am awesome idea. Would love to see it in later gens. Feels like this might have been possible if you brought a team of six scratchers or whatever per battle tho.
Nugget bridge does seem like an unbeatable part. If you wait on Misty, that's still 7 trainers you have to beat in a row before you get access to the next patch of grass. 7 of course meaning the rival, nugget 5, and rocket grunt.
You could try this in Sword and Shield. There are a very low amount of required battles and the best amount of moves, and you have the Dynamax adventures so you can make the decision to grind for the best Pokémon with unique moves so as to extend your movepool even further and you also have experience candies to get specific Pokémon up to speed.
I'd love for this to become a series, but you should research the differences between crystal and gold/silver to see if there are more mandatory battles in one or the other. I think you have to wake the legendary dogs, and fight the rival in there in crystal but that it is skipable in g/s. Also in case you didn't know, one of the junior trainers in the ghost gym is skipable

I'd love to see more of this series. It's an extremely unique challenge and I'm 100% interested in seeing how far you can get in future generations.
yeah lets see if you can win in gen 3 4 5 6 7 et.c
A surprise not anticipated but a surprise to be welcome, for sure...
*Noises of pain due to pain*

I quite like the "How far can you get in Pokemon with X" format. It's a nice change to the "Can you beat Pokemon with X" that you get everywhere else.
I'd love to see someone TAS this to see if it's theoretically possible, with strategy improvements or better luck in move efficiency/switch training options.
