Great video Hunter. You show just how versatile this lens is and the options are limitless. We are pretty spoiled with all of the lens options out there now and how far technology has come.
Super intrigued and tempted by this lens. My daily go to for 95% of our commercial filmmaking projects for the past few years has been the criminally underrated Sigma 24-35 f/2. Love the focal range. My style is wide and close. I feel like I’d initially miss that 24mm wide end, but I also feel like it could force me to adapt my style slightly, and that excites me. This video might’ve sold me tbh.
Great review Hunter! For my type of photography this lens is a home run! I rarely shoot beyond 50mm and 28mm is my favorite focal length. I love my Leica Q. Getting a 28, 35 and (almost) 50 f1.8 in one package is almost too good to be true!
I am the exact same way. Since it is the same size as my 35mm that I already own. I am going to trade my 28,35 and 50 for it!Thanks for watching and subscribing. If you do instagram, you should check me out over there if you dont already. instagram.com/hunterhartphoto/
The Tamron 35-150mm is at 2.0 from 35-40mm. There's also Sigma's own 40mm f1.4 (which I own). And Canon's 28-70 f2.0. Unless you have some obsession with the 28-35mm f1.8 range, I can't see why anyone would want to have this lens... unless you're a wedding photographer with multiple bodies and even . This is really a video lens that does double duty for stills.
@@onlyonecannoli3952 I can understand why you’d bring up the 35-150 but idk how the other lenses are relevant. But a 40mm prime and a zoom lens for only Canon? Also the point of the video is that it broke the records by being the fastest full frame zoom lens ,which it is. Although there are close contenders, it’s still the winner. Like I said in the video, would be great for documentary work, environmental portraits and videography to replace its little brother the 18-35mm 1.8. by sigma. I really appreciate you watching!
@@hunterhart1 Thank you for the feedback. The other lenses are relevant in that a 40mm f1.4 is giving you 2/3 of a stop more light and is considerably cheaper to purchase on the used market. Moreover, its glass is top notch. I bring the Canon up because that lens has a much more usable range and only 1/3 stop less light than this Sigma. That's a trade off I would gladly make. It's only a matter of time before other brands start coming out with that formula for other mounts. Like I said, this is a video lens (e.g. Aperture ring), that also serves a dual purpose. However, in my opinion, the limited range prevents it from being a one lens solution to replace primes in a photographers bag. Don't know of many photographers carrying a 28mm prime along with a 45mm. In sure there are exceptions, but probably not many. If this had been a 24-60mm (or even 50mm), I could see it replacing some primes in my bag...even at f2.0. That's my point.
@@onlyonecannoli3952 thanks for the observation 🙏🏼 I use a 28,35 and 50 for weddings and for my needs it works. The 45 is close enough 50 for me. I am currently in the process of selling my lenses to buy this one!
Thanks Kendra! Umm yeah I don’t like the invasion of personal space as I learned from this brief encounter. Now I feel bad for all the close ups I’ve done over the years 😅
It also breakes the record of being the largest most unwielding big and heavy lens with the least zoom range. To me a 35mm small, light and cheap prime would perfectly do the job and save almost a kg of weight and would be much cheaper an probably better.
Very nice review and photos Hunter! Your photos and stlye looks amazing too, are you using the "Hunter Hart Preset Pack" for these edits? If yes I will go and buy it. Also, usually how much steps are you underexpose the photos? I like this highlight saver-darker style a lot. Thanks brother.
I am using it for all my images, yes! I under expose mostly about 1/2 a stop to a whole stop depending on the scenario. That’s not always the case just often.

Hey Hunter! Are you still going to continue shooting with the Fuji? I'm guessing that for pro work you only use Sony...I'm asking because currently I also have a fuji xt4 and I was going to buy the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 lens until I saw that Sony is releasing A7V soon. And now this lens just came out which made me want to switch to Sony even more lol. Since you have both, Fuji apsc and Sony full frame cameras I wanted to ask your thoughts on the pros and cons of switching to full frame. Maybe that would even be a great video for the channel. Thanks :)
The 27mm 1.2 and the 18mm 1.4 are my favorite lenses for the Fuji system. But I got tired of Fuji performing poorly with things I wanted as a pro photographer, like autofocus and lowlight for example. I have showed so much Fuji work on RUclips to prove that you dont need the full frame + most expensive new things on the market to take great photos. Gear will never make you a better photographer and that’s a fact. As far as Fuji vs Sony, in my opinion Sony is better at everything but the colors and the feel of the camera. I prefer to shoot Fuji based off of feel but I am shooting Sony based off of results. So now I shoot only one Fuji camera and I only use it for trips and things. This is only my opinion, doesn’t make it right. Don’t hurt yourself spending money you shouldn’t, I tell people this ALL THE TIME. Thanks for watching and subbing
It is quite large, but if you think of the 28-70 f/2 (so much bigger) or a 24-70 (actually larger when you zoom out since it is not internal zoom) Thanks so much for watching!
the 18-35 was my favorite lens ever made and it kept me in the aps-c world waaaay longer because of it. I'll be honest, I'm still torn about getting rid of my smaller, lighter, CHEAPER system. the 18-35, in correllation with the 56mm 1.4 and the 50-150mm 2.8 (all sigma) have proved to be difficult to replace in the full frame world, attempting to not sell my car. lol. I cannot wait to get ahold of this one, and hopefully be able to justify the price.
Actually, if you go with full frame, it will be far far lighter. Remember to convert the aperture values accordingly with crop factor. Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 (Sigma 18-35 is a 28-53mm f/2.9 equiv) Sony 85mm f/1.8 (56mm f1.4 = 85mm f2.1) Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS (50-150mm f/2.8 = 75-200 f/4.2). Even the mark 1 is still quite good in terms of sharpness. So your current APSC lenses weigh 810g + 280g + 1195g = 2285g vs Full frame 440g + 371g + 840g = 1651g
Bloody hell that makes me want to get that lens.... argh.... I have the Tamron 20-40mm F2.8, Tamron 70-180 F2.8 and the Tamron 150-500 but I am very tempted and just replacing the 20-40 F2.8 which this but at the same time I enjoy the 20mm for the odd things but not enough to justify going with this lens.
I do hope they match it with a 45-105/1.8 so that they would have a killer all around combo.
