Each instrument has a unique harmonic structure. I like to think in zones: Low, Mid, High of each sound instead of the instrument itself.
This is the frequencies that we are tested our hearing abilities When we in elementary.

Lol i used to think fab filter stuff was confusing but now I see why the top engineers use it , they just get the interface right
if you need an alternative, tdr nova has similar dynamic eq functions to fab filter3, its free and it sounds great
