Thank you so much for this excellent video. I am teaching art remotely during COVID and just spent the past hour looking for the perfect tutorial for shooting food on a phone. You’re a great teacher- concise, easy to understand, no jargon that might scare off a novice photographer, and beautiful examples to illustrate your lesson. THANK YOU! Looking forward to sharing this with my students ☺️
my pleasure! Happy to do it, I'm so glad you and your students can take something away from this!
I don’t know how come you don’t have thousands of subscribers in your channel. Your videos have helped me a lot Nick, thanks a lot!!
I have just watched 10 videos to try and learn how to do food photography. You my friend are just good. Simple. Believable. Likeable. Knowledgable. Happy New Year from the U.K.

Those are good tips. The problem I have is that I cook dinner for the family and try to take photos of the dish just to post it on Facebook 😂but I have no natural lighting. Plus, my counter is dark.
Hey Nick. Awesome stuff, Question: I have a godox sl-60 can I use that with an umbrella? Also where do I get those hardbackdrops you have?
Yes you can! and those are just tiles I get from the flooring store
This was useful
so glad I could help out!
Great, now I want pancakes…
The tips are super. Thanks!
But What to do when you Cook in The evening and there simply is no sun light left? Use artificial light and Diffusor? Photo Boxes? Any Tips or recommendations? Ty !! 😊
exactly. I have a ton of videos on my instagram/youtube/tiktok that will help you get started with artificial light.
where did you get the surface your shooting your food on from?
Skyler I get all my surfaces from tile shops. They’re usually just a few bucks too. (Because they charge by the square food. Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone I told you!)
Had to give up the DSLR now trying to figure out the Iphone for my food blog. The problem, so many times the photos are distorted and it looks like the food or bowls are falling off the edge of the picture. What am I doing wrong??????
The newest iPhones have a wide angle setting, I think it’s .5x make sure you’re not in that! Or try portrait mode!
Hey where did you get your backdrop board?
I have a full video on surfaces/backdrops and where I get them from! Check it out
🥰😂😂😂 nice video ❤️
thank you! hope it helped :)
Can I shoot with samsung s9+
absolutely!
Potrait mode is not on for food stuff. It showing only for humans
shalaka Vaidya I was able to get it to work, just keep backing up so you get more distance between you and the food and then tap on your subject and it should work!
I have samsung
Who else is here Bc of Schoology....
