I stayed at the house at 2:35 back in 2019 for a week. 501 East Balboa Boulevard. So cool to see it back in the 1940s. A beautiful little house less than 30 seconds walk from beach.
The Pac Bell/At&T building still there!!! I remember when it flooded and I was there to restore the phone service. This video is from my in-law's time down there. My wife's grandfather was offered Balboa Island when it was a sand bar and he co-owned Newport Dunes. To this day, we keep our trailer at Newport Dunes for weekend use. Great show of memory lane. We should do the 80's till now and show how a lot of those buildings were there until the big builders came in
Very nice indeed excellent work👍. Its a valuable thing to see all that has changed. In many respects its looks better now. Although delvopment is inevitable. You have to think 50 yrs prior to the old footage being shot there would have been virtually nothing there at all....barely even a road most likely.
I so miss my home state. If you have the means, take a couple of weeks and spend them in Newport Beach walking around the Balboa Peninsula, and Lido Isle. Worth every penny.
Spent many years from 1991-2008 poisoning my liver on this stretch of Newport(lived in a couple different party houses on the peninsula) I wish I would have done things differently. Would be nice to get back the tens of thousands of dollars I spent on beer in all the bars on the peninsula too.
@KakToTak-Ive watched a couple of these … vs … vids now, and I find them to be very creative and satisfying. I can imagine it’s quite a bit of work to edit together, but please continue to make them. Much appreciation. 😊🙏
Oh, take me back, I`m begging please, take me back, I`m on my knees? Back to a nation of sanity. I`ll take any of those old Junkers, for I can still grind gears.
WOW. GREATTTTT VIDEO. THEY SHOULD SHOW THIS IN SCHOOL. I AM SHOCK IT LIKE A GHOST TOWN. BACK THAN HUMAN POPULATION WAS SMALL, NOW IT LIKE INSECTS. BILLIONS OF PEOPLE. LOOK HOW SMALL THE TEXACO GAS STATION. NO SKATE BOARD AND BEACH BIKE .. LESS TRAFFIC.
I love these types of videos. Could you do one with a split screen so both the then and now shots can be viewed at the same time? Great job regardless.
Yes, split screens can be done. Placing screens side-by-side will result sacrificing either size of the screens or screen peripherals. Maybe... on top of each other by cropping sky and pavement portions?.. Thank you for the great idea. I definitely will look into this.
@@ericstewart9742 Interesting!.. You are the first brining up such an issue. Have you tried playing anything else from my channel? All the videos on the channel are uploaded in the same MP4 format and whatever RUclips does to it is beyond my control. Anyways thank you for trying to watch my video and, hopefully, you are the only one experiencing the 'inconvenience'.
Came here from the Sunset Blvd video, in which I thought both eras were equal: trashy-as-always Sunset. But in this one, Newport/Balboa Village is definitely improved today, and those who say otherwise are nursing a political agenda. I note many interesting buildings are still there; the surroundings are spruced up and nicer. More greenery, less matchstick telephone poles.
Those buildings that are seemingly still around 80 years later are legends.

Nice to see, some of it looks better now which is surprising and happy to see certain trees still survive from the 1940s to l now.
Wow these are great! It's like time travel from the comfort of your living room. Nice work!
I love these old days vs. nowadays videos. Makes me wish I had a time machine. Especially if I could take a couple of cars back with me.
I also wish, hehehe!
It is interesting to see cars from 1920s and 30s, it's just like cars from 90s and 00s in our days

This is where I live I rode my bicycle and driven that street my whole life thank you for doing this
Spent a lot of my younger years renting and exploring the peninsula....love all those old bungalows
I would love to live in those days. I was born in the early 50s. So simple back then.
You did it was recorded 1951

Fantastic!!
Really interesting.
EXCELENTE
Спасибо. Интересно увидеть историю моего города.
Who else wanted to click "Start" when it came on the screen?
Well done! I love these before and after shots.
This is a great job on a project that takes a lot more work than people think. I'm glad to see some areas of California haven fallen apart.
That was absolutely incredible! Is there any more involving Newport beach? Brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing this.
Finished up at the old Penny Arcade!
Incredible!
Watched it twice because I live in between Island Ave & Medina. This was a pleasure to watch the old & new. Thanks!
You are insanely awesome for doing this 👍🏼
Mais bonita, antigamente.
Parabéns pelo vídeo.

Wow!I live there never knew the before
Much nicer, neater, tidier, ugly lamppost free, today, but I just ❤ the look of those old cars.

In 1955, we stayed in a brown house on Balboa Blvd. It could have been the one at 1.11.
My old hometown. The alleys were still dirt roads in the seventies! Once the yuppies figured out this was prime real estate - it all changed-- haha.
Loved it! Can you do a PCH from Newport Beach to Dana Point?
You can see remnants of a streetcar line in the wide paved over median strip (1:24) probably disappeared late 1930s/early 1940s.
1940 Pacific Electric-NB to LA. PE helped that area grow.
Must be summer of 1948, as the trolly tracks arr gone with just a few remnants left and I saw a 49 Ford, which hit the streets in the spring of 1948.
this is so cool haha
How did you put those LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY icons on your screen at the very beginning?
Oh, take me back, I`m begging please, take me back, I`m on my knees? Back to a nation of sanity. I`ll take any of those old Junkers, for I can still grind gears.
Woodie at 1:00, woodie at 2:23, woodie at 2:26 with tailgate down.
What movie was being played at the theatre in the 40’s?

Back then when Newport was just a regular small city and not a rich tourist enclave it's now.
Did Ciros become Whiskey A-Go-Go?
@5:55 not what I expect for someone dressed in the 1940's

Bien trabajo me encanta me fascina viajar al tiempo pasado me fijo en cada detalle en los árboles todo saludos desde Torrance California 🙏👍🇺🇸
A big problem with colorizing is that it makes many of the cars look dirty.
I couldn’t see any video, just a black screen while the music played.
On which platform did it fail? PC, MAC, Android, Smart TV?

It’s working now so maybe there were some weird connectivity problems

Pre invasion California. How nice it was.

The house prices
The music just SUCKS.
