Just a heads up so people aren’t confused about the compressor’s functionality. The attack and release on the left side, in the Limiter section, are for the limiter. I noticed you mentioned those when speaking about the Compressor side, but those are not controls for the compressor. The compressor has only a release control, which you have set to ‘Auto’ here. The attack for the compressor is fixed and does not have a knob. And since you have the Limiter set to ‘off’, the limiter attack and release you mentioned are not engaged at all. Not trolling, just clarifying for those like myself who were a little confused by that. Cheers.
Sean always has great sound advice.
Watch his videos all the time
"Not all equalizers are created equal"
Engineer humour. Gotta love it
Oh, snap they got Sean Divine on here!
Did u know that his flow is off the wall?
Every time I think there are better plugins I always understand the waves are number 1 !
Fantastic starting point for getting vocals to where you want them in mixes. Thanks so much Sean.
sure thing, glad it's helpful Jovo
Glad to see Waves bring in Sean to drop so heat🔥🔥🔥!!! He always gives good easy to understand knowledge and insight!
🌊 appreciate it Lawrence
Yep agreed. Always straight to the point. I’d push the top end air/sheen a little further personally. The Vs love a bit of overdrive. Great video though Sean, thank you.
I have used this plugins for a long time and I hadn't saw this video, so thanks, this plugs are amazing.
Great song, great melody, super sound. I‘m impressed!
AWESOME TUTORIAL WITH FRESH PERSPECTIVE..HATS OFF!
Yes!!! Great video!! I’m on my way to waves now to pick up 🙏
500k subscribers this year. Amazing stuff
sounds wonderful waves improved my overall sound
I use them alot. Cymbals sound great.
I must use these more. Have forgotten and overlooked these of late. So many great options = option paralysis too often for me!
Rolanoid Yeh man. Too many plug ins sometimes. I have overlooked the V series too. Neve goodness. What’s not to like.
Sean Divine is our hero

VSeries is dope!
Thanks!
Hey mr SeanDi, you should get waves to make a Sean Devine waves bundle pack. That would be sweet. Then I could order that and would know I got everything I need/want.
Happy to see you on Waves bruh.. 😘
🌊
@@SeanDivine 😊🙏🙏🙏
My boy made it to waves HQ 🥳🥳🥳🥳
yeah Sean !
🙌
Hi great work as always but I prefer to hear on/off with Bypass than the replay option. Much easier for me to really feel/hear the difference.
The V Series are good tools that provides great results even though there are newer plug in's out there.
I found that it sounds great as a mastering tool , use just prior to Wave Arts Final Plug, am I wrong.
the Veq 4 has the better high pass filter of the two... but great vocal chain
How do you nail that effect where your voice sounds like an instrument...like piano. Pretty sure I have something in Waves that does that but I'm not sure how to dial it in, really.
Super helpful
what are some of the techs u use to get the vocals to the “sound” that u start prior to using these plugins? like ur new single, u have a tutorial on getting that “sound” as far as the saturation, reverb, n other plugins n settings for that specific “sound”. If u do that would be HUGE!
The vocals were tracked with the Aphex Channel using light compression and the de-esser section. More videos on vocal processing coming soon 🙌
that would do wonders! thank you
That “outta my hands” section sounds cool. How’s you get that sound on the vocals? Vocoder or a harmonizer?
@seandivine
Great vid Sean...although the vox sounded more like a synth it was so at'd. You are setting the attack/release etc...isnt that just for the limiter which is switched off?
You're right! He sets the attack and release on the left side, which only controls the unused limiter. The controls on the right side control the compressor. (I just reviewed the manual to be sure of this.)
How did he make that piano kinda vocal sound? I love it
Autotune and stacked vocals
This was SMOOTHHH
Joey Sturgis Tones thanks Joey!
Sean Divine That “outta my hands” section sounds cool. How’s you get that sound on the vocals? Vocoder or a harmonizer?
Tyler Thomas just sung harmonies :)
@@SeanDivine Hey Sean. Where can I get this song. It's🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for this amazing video. Just a small advice. Please make your voice sound a little “outside peoples head” :)
The release you mentioned at 4:20, i.e. 800ms is for the limiter....the release for the compressor is set to auto!!!
right. I point to the settings for the limiter section, which I mention directly after that I'm not utilizing for this vocal chain
What level do I enter the compressor? Is it -18 LUFS?
Use this one on the piano it sounds great ..
How much do you charge to mix and master?
What’s your job and how much do you earn? Thanks.😎
joji vibesss
Song name please?
unreleased at the moment!
Sean Divine what effects did you use for the “outta my hands” section
I’m using AirPods and honestly can’t tell a difference. Strange. I’ve never had problem watching mixing videos
Sounds great, and I personally love the V-series. I hate to make any negative comments but if I'm not mistaken the fast and slow attack only works with the limiter not the compressor. I believe the compressor has a fixed attack time of 5ms.
Well when he talks about the fast and slow attack he does point at the limiter, not the compressor, and then he mentions he’s chosen not to use the limiter here, but these are the settings he’d use on the limiter if he were to engage it...
@@tobyp5099 Yeah right. :D
Anyone need a mix and master engineer? Hmu with your files ready
I do
Wierd nobody is talking about using high pass filter after analog compressors. Any kind of Saturation will bring in Alot of low end as well hence making vocals or other stuff muddy. I recently got the free Rvox from a deal and I used it on vocals and vocals sounded very muddy so I put a high pass filter of 100 hz after the Rvox and vocals after that sounded amazing with the character and thickness that Rvox gave. Did not felt a need for a second compressor after that.
never noticed that. Saturation creates overtones in _higher frequency,_ not the other way.
I don't have rvox, but any that I used, don't have low freqency bump. You can't say all of them do that based only on RVox.
Cool video...kinda weird camera angle with you looking at your computer and then straining to glance over to your right at us sometimes though. But ....meh...rock on.
it's not an accurate comparison because sean failed to pull down the output so that the levels are the same. Of course it is going to sound better to the human ear when it is louder! you should fix this!
what if you want that level as output, and you already know that it changes dynamics in a specific way you wanted?
Because it could sound worse if it's louder but you don't like what it did to dynamics.
The vocals actually sounded better without the plugins.
this guy looks like Mac Miller
Mje, these plugins only help making great recordings sound altered, they make bad tracks sound worse in my experience
Casper Bjerkehagen Agree and my point also, Al Schmitt uses no plugins on his mixes, not even an eq for most parts
I used to like Waves plugins but after I spent $4,000 on Hardware in plugins and now they're waves 10 doesn't work with Cubase 10 Studio rack plug-in with DSP soundgrid plugins crashes Cubase every time you open it so waves doesn't even care I called Tech Support over and over and they say we will fix it when we can fix it there's not even anything on their website trying to tell people hey we know there's a problem and we're fixing it they don't care wave sucks ass I can't use my interface my plugins nothing just sitting here costing me money until I fix it
Dude.... 1) at :33 "the V stands for Vintage Vibe" ... what? It stands for Neve. Big "V" in NeVe. Waves originally made these with Neve GUI's and had to step back from that and rename them. The "V-Comp" was named for its proper emulation at the time (the 2254) ... also, 2) at 4:03, you're describing the attack/release of the Limiter section, which you have "OFF". The Compressor section, which you have "ON", has a fixed attack, and it's release is set on "auto". You've confused the controls. I stopped watching after that LOL.
:33 not meant to be taken literally, that's my interpretation and exactly the sound the plugins provide. I point out my typical settings for the limiter section and directly after mention I'm not using it for this vocal. Thanks for watching.
Omfg it sounds awful (his song not the plugin)
